Exporting .avi video from iphoto

I have a new Nikon coolpix S3500 point & shoot camera and it does video that imports to iPhoto11 just fine.   I can export a 30 second video to the desktop and I get a non-working .avi video when I open in QTpro consisting of the first frame only and size is 205KB.  I can drag to the desktop and I get a working file with the .avi extension and a size of 21KB which only works on my computer in QTpro.  In QTpro I can save it as a .mov file and its over 20MB in size that I can take to any computer.  My iPhone videos in iPhoto exports as .mov as does my Canon EOS Ti1 SLR videos.    There does not appear to be a way for iPhoto to export the coolpix videos as .mov or as a working file.    If I go into iMovie I can see the video and can work with it there.   I'm not understanding: the video is there in iPhoto, but I cannot export it directly to the desktop to pass along.  Appreciate someone explaining please.

There does not appear to be a way for iPhoto to export the coolpix videos as .mov or as a working file.
As a working file: File -> Export and set the Kind it Original. This User Tip

No, iPhoto has no ability to transcode video to different formats.

  • Can't export older videos from iPhoto

Hiya, I hope someone can help me out here.
My wife and I have a few years worth of videos that were taken on digital cameras and were imported into iPhoto. The videos from the past few years were taken on our iPhones, but the older videos were imported from our old digital camera. All of our videos play correctly within iPhoto. But I recently tried to export my videos from iPhoto, and the older videos do not play. They are very short - usually about 10K to 500K, and they are zero length. When you press play they just immediately skip to the end. It's almost like they are a photo. This happens in iMovie and when I try to play the video directly out of the finder.
Now, I did my homework on exporting and made sure to chose 'Original'. And all of the exported videos from the past three years (the iPhone videos) or so work just fine. So I don't think I messed up my iPhoto export somehow. Another interesting wrinkle is that I can choose 'locate in finder' for the older videos and find the movie that way and it plays just fine. These videos in the iPhoto library are also the correct size - 10M or so. So I suppose that if worst comes to worst I can just manually copy every single video. But I'd like for the export process to work.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks!
    Justin

  • Export edited videos from iPhoto

    Hi.
I found many videos online showing how to export video files from iPhoto, but they always use original files!
I just imported a video from my iPhone into iPhoto, and cut it. Now I want to export the edited video, but if I drag and drop on the desktop, I end up with a 35 KB file that doesn't work at all. If I reset the changes (undo the cut) and try to drag and drop, everything work fine and I get the full video of 24 MB.
How can I export the edited file?

  • When i export my videos from iphoto onto my hard drive, they have today's date instead of the date the video was taken.

how can i fix this? i sync iphoto with my iphone but when i export the vids onto my hard drive, i lose the date the vids were taken. help?

thank you for your response. strange, though, the vids used to export with the file date that i shot the vid... it's only since i updated iphoto that this is happening. but i like your idea of adding the date to the file name... i just wish i didn't have to do that extra step now, since i have a lot of videos.

  • Exporting videos from iPhoto

For the life of me, I can't figure out a way to export videos which I imported into iPhoto from my camera. I can export it to my desktop but can't export them in a format that I can then import into Vimeo or other video sharing site.
What the heck does a guy gotta do to share his simple .avi videos with others on the Internet?
I tried exporting it from Quicktime too, but sadly, exporting my own video from Quicktime requires that I have a Pro account. Sad but true.
    Any help would be appreciated.

    Welcome to the Apple Discussions.
To export a video from iPhoto:
Select the video in the iPhoto Window and go File -> Export. Set the *Kind: to Original*. This will export your video.
can't export them in a format that I can then import into Vimeo or other video sharing site.
Why? What formats do they require? Do the videos require shifting to a new format?

Who can tell, when you don’t explain where the procedure breaks down for you.

Why is that sad? When you export from Quicktime you are shifting formats or otherwise editing the video.

  • Exporting video from iPhoto including music added and theme

    Hi,
is there a way to export a video from iPhoto including music and theme?
I'm able to export the video itself, with its native sound, but the theme and music added in iPhoto is not included. When trying to share on Flickr - running in to the same problem.
Don't think it makes a difference, but the video was taking by GoPro Black and the audio added was purchased in iToons store.
    Really appreciate your help
    Thanks!

iPhoto has no ability to add anything to video. Do you mean a slideshow? If so, how are you exporting?
the audio added was purchased in iToons store.
You may run into copyright issues if you upload that to a site like flickr or youtube.

  • How to export videos from iPhoto 11

I have synced a load of pics and videos from iphone 5 to iPhoto 11 v9.4.2.
I want to get the vids on youtube (this option is not available via the share button in iPhoto).
I have tried exporting the video from iPhoto so i can do the upload manually as a normal file, however exporting the video (as original file format) causes it to export as a .jpg and not as the video format.
I would have done it form the phone but this fails everytime whether i am on 3g or wi-fi.
iPhoto does not even allow me to see the file location via get info so i cant even just go and find them myself!
How am i supposed to get the video file on my mac somewhere where i can see the file and upload it myself seeing as iphoto does not provide an upload to youtube option?
    Please help!
    Thanks

iPhoto does not even allow me to see the file location via get info so i cant even just go and find them myself!
If you select the video in the browser and use the command
File > Reveal in Finder > Original file
you should see the video file. Does that not work for you?
Also, you should be able to export the video:
         File > Export
and set the "Kind" pop-up menu to "Original", like this:

  • What is the best way to email a video from iPhoto? It won't let me share a video!

what is the best way to email a video from iPhoto? It won't let me share a video!

Size is not the issue. In the old iPhoto you used to be able to share a video and it would compress it to fit an email friendly size. It doesn't do that anymore from iPhoto. I miss that feature. I have to export the video from iPhoto to my desktop then take into the old Quicktime 7 to share in email. Crazy.
It shouldn't be that complicated. I shouldn't have to find a work around. I guess apple wants to put  you in a box so you have to do it "their way" via uploading to iWeb or iCloud instead of emailing video.
I don't like those options being taken away.  While the quality may suffer by compressing for email, it is still the most direct and unconvoluted way of sharing something fairly quickly. I don't want to have to post to YouTube or Vimeo or iCloud and send a link. Just compress the video and hit send in an email and be done with it.

  • Transfer of video from IPhoto

I made a video on my Iphone 4S uploaded it to my Imac via direct connection. When I try to share the video Email it says you can not share videos in IPhoto.
I posted it to FaceBook and it is fine. Any help with other ways to transfer would be much appreciated.
    Thanks M

Well you can't email the video from iPhoto.
So, export the video from iPhoto (File -> Export, set the Kind to Original) to the Finder and attach it to an email from there.
That said, the person on the other end may not be delighte to receive a large file via Email. It can cause all sorts of problems at the other end. Most people would upload the large file somewhere and send a link so the person could download themselves.

  • Cannot export video from iphoto to other location

    Hello ,
i could not move video from iphoto to external hard disk or desktop. I'm using Mac Pro with RD. The steps I did as below:
    1. Select the video
    2. File, export , select origin, ok
    3.  error message appear stated that video could not be prepared .
Any way to do it ?

The problem is that iPhoto is looking in the wrong place for the file:
    / Volumes/Sagate/Iphoto_Library_2014.photolibrary/Previews/2014....... "
It should be looking in the Originals folder.
    Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Repair Database. If that doesn't help, then try again, this time using Rebuild Database.
    If that fails:
    Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. (In early versions of Library Manager it's the File -> Rebuild command. In later versions it's under the Library menu.)
This will create an entirely new library. It will then copy (or try to) your photos and all the associated metadata and versions to this new Library, and arrange it as close as it can to what you had in the damaged Library. It does this based on information it finds in the iPhoto sharing mechanism - but that means that things not shared won't be there, so no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your events, albums and keywords, faces and places back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.

  • I imported some 24P HD videos from my DSLR to Aperture but these videos do not show up in iMovie '09 for editing purposes. Although my previous 24P HD Videos from iPhoto '09 show up. Why can't I access these videos stored in Aperture library?

I imported some 24P HD videos from my DSLR to Aperture but these videos do not show up in iMovie '09 for editing purposes. Although my previous 24P HD Videos from iPhoto '09 show up. Why can't I access these videos stored in Aperture library? I assumed that like  the videos in iPhoto, I would be able to access the videos in Aperture through iMovie. Come on Apple! I am starting to get frustrated with your products here. And this is saying a lot when I have been using and loving apple products for the last 4 years.

Hi. My camera is a Canon 600D. And yes my videos are stored in the Aperture library and they are not referenced. Even then I tried to select all the videos in Aperture and clicked 'consolidate masters' and there was a messge that said all 'none of the files are referenced',... so they didn't need consolidating.
I also tried preferences> export> external video editor > choose > iMovie. And then right click on the video to edit with imovie. Even then the video didn't show up in iMovie. It seems like the only option for me is to import the videos directly to iMovie which means there will be two versions of the same file stored in my computer eating up space.
    APPLE. What are you doing?

  • How can I export a slideshow from iPhoto to iMovie 09.  I try but it only lets me import 211 out of the 311 photos I have in the slideshow.

How can I export a slideshow from iPhoto to iMovie 09.  I try, but it only exports 211 out of the 311 photos I have in the slideshow I made on iPhoto.

how do i change the format to the right one?
Before you can decide what to do, you have to know what you are starting with. Sony MPEG-1 files would be converted one way while DivX or WMV files would likely be handled in another. Extraneous tracks can be removed directly with QT Pro but if you don't have QT Pro then there may or may not be other work around possibilities depending on the specific audio and video compression formats in use. The best place to start would normally be to double-clic the source file in iPhoto to open it in the QT Player. When it opens in the QT Player, check the "Inspector" window to see what it says on the "Format:" lines. This will tell you the type of audio and video content you are dealing with here. Then come and tell us so we can offer some specific conversion solutions.

Using export slide show from iphoto, I am trying to create a DVD of photos and vid clips in large format. The vid clips do not work using burn software. Any idea?

Have used large format, but using the 'burn' software, I am not getting seamless video quality on DVD even though I am burning at 2* speed. Any ideas? Do I need better software? Or is there a problem with the SuperDrive?

  • How does one email a video from iPhoto

how does one email a video from iPhoto

    One doesn't.
Simply, sharing video via email is not advisable.
Many email services have an attachment limit of 20mb and some a limit of 10mb. As emails are sent through an array of relays, the effective limit is the smallest file size allowed on any of the relays.  That means that video is rarely suitable for emailing.
Then there's the whole issue of Codecs and not all machines will have the codecs to play all videos. Plus, folks with slower connections can find it very inconvenient to download large video files.
Finally, sharing video from iPhoto via email is not supported. All that gets you is the Movie thumbnail. If you feel you must share via email then you'll need to export the video first, and attach that. Use the File -> Export command and set the kind  to Original.

Other than that your options include:
Upload it to a sharing site like YouTube or Vimeo and email a link - these will allow the recipient to view the material online. That will avoid the codec issues mentioned, and the person can still download the video file if they wish.
Upload it to sharing services like Dropbox or YouSendIt and email a link. This will require that they download the material to their machines to view.
