Exporting Captivate 3 to Flash CS3 (Vista Ultimate 32)

I saw the other topics describing issues involving exporting
Captivate to Flash, but I can't get the export to work at all. The
first couple times I tried I got the "unknown error," and now the
.cp files don't even show up in the list of importable files.
I've applied all the latest Adobe updates. I really need to
be able to work on these Captivate 3 files in Flash. Any help would
be appreciated.

Thanks for your help, Rick.
Yes, I've reviewed it and followed its instructions. I've
found that I need Flash to be closed before I start an export from
Captivate or nothing happens. (I can't import from Flash at all.)
Even when the export works, I'm only getting the first slide.
So it looks like I have some poking around to do. I was hoping this
was going to be a "press a button and go" operation (yeah, right).

  • Captivate 3 and Flash CS3 under Vista 64

    Hello,
I'm having a problem with using Adobe Captivate 3 and Adobe Flash CS3 in tandem to get my Captivate project in a file format accepted by online video sharing sites such as YouTube. Since Captivate 3 does not have an option to export to .avi or any other accepted movie file format, I thought that I would export the Captivate project to Flash, and then export it to the avi file format through Flash. However, whenever I select "File>Export>Project To>Flash CS3," I get the following error in Flash:
    quote:
The import did not finish because an unknown error occurred
I could not find any resources that pertained to my particular problem. I am using Windows Vista Ultimate 64-bit, with a different directory structure than XP. In the Adobe Developer Center article " Exporting your Adobe Captivate project to Flash," it references a certain "RDMFISTUB.DLL" file that I cannot locate on my system. Could this problem be caused by incompatibilities with Vista?
My end goal is to post a Captivate project comprised of mostly full-motion recording to YouTube. If there is another way to do this that doesn't involve installing any 3rd-party software, I'm open to that as well.
    Thank you

    You said...
    quote:
The much bigger obstacle is that when I export a Captivate
project that incorporates full-motion recordings with static slides
displaying a text caption to Flash and then to .mov, I lose the
full-motion recordings: they are replaced with a blank white or
black screen (whatever the background color is set to be). The
audio is gone too. I don't know what is causing this, but I would
really appreciate any help you could lend me concerning this.
    I don't have a solution -
maybe someone else here does - but would offer an
    observation ...
Keeping in mind that I avoid monkeying with my own Captivate
projects in Flash because of the various inconsistencie, some of
which you have seen ... I am hopeful that the Captivate team does
something to address the handling of full-motion slides. We all
know that they are created as AVI clips which are then converted to
SWF as separate slides, so it seems logical to me that there must
be a way to offer the source, that is, the AVI or a FLA either of
which would then be handled separately inside Flash (for those who
like to do their tinkering in that environment).
In the meantime, you might try to change the timing of the
(errant) full-motion slide a bit. Like, perhaps add or subtract a
tenth of a second to it or otherwise change its properties so that
the import doesn't end up as a blank. Just thinking out loud in
trouble-shooting mode... come to think of it, when the project is
published to SWF/HTM, each full-motion slide is published as a
separate SWF file. Would it be possible to publish the project,
then try to bring that SWF back into Captivate as an animation?
It's late here and I'm getting into fuzzy-thinking time, so if that
doesn't make sense, it wouldn't surprise me.

  • Export from Captivate 3 to Flash CS3

I followed directions located in Adobe Captivate 3's help
menu about exporting to Flash CS3. I have tried both exporting from
Captivate and Importing from Flash to move my captivate project
into flash. About 5 times, an error saying "Unknown error" had
occurred popped up. I closed Flash and Captivate a couple times and
then it worked. Several new errors popped up during the
"successful" import---worse yet, the captivate project imported
terribly! Pieces of the demonstration were all over the stage.
Long story short, something is wrong. Is this a Vista thing?
Does anyone know about any of this?

I've had similar issues trying to export to Flash. But
    sometimes it seems to
work beautifully (although always with an error message about
    "unable to
find Flash.exe" or similar), aside from in issue with the
    backgrounds all
importing to Flash at the wrong size. This is easily worked
    around, and has
been discussed here a number of times.
My first suggestion to you is to try rebooting your machine
    before trying to
    export again.

  • Captivate 2 and Flash CS3

    Hi,
I'm still using Captivate 2, but I have Flash CS3 installed.
Can I export my .cp files to .fla? On the captivate export menu,
there are options for Flash 8 and MX 2004 that are greyed out, and
    I don't get a CS3 option at all. I've already uninstalled Flash 8,
and I had some quirky problems with Dreamweaver and file
association for Fireworks during the upgrade. Could this be
related, or is it just not possible?
    Thanks!

Hi loudena and welcome to our community
Flash CS3 arrived after Captivate 2 did, so it comes as no
surprise that Captivate 2 is oblivious to Flash CS3.
You might try opening Flash CS3, then attempting to point at
the Captivate 2 .CP file. Not sure if that will work, but just
    thinking out loud.

I am using Captivate 3 and when I try to export project to Falsh, only Flash 8 and Flash CS3 are listed but they are grayed out because I am using Flash CS4. My question is how do I export project to Flash CS4 if it is not an option?  Is there another way to create a FLV file?

  • Captivate 3 to Flash CS3 Problem

    Hi
I am trialling v3 and just been trying out the export to
Flash CS3 option which seems problematic - no images seems to be
    exported.
On the exporting progress screen I am getting a 508 error -
not supported, Flash CS3 opens and I have some assets but no images
Anyone know how to fix this?
Also is it not possible to export individual slides to Flash?
It would make editting in Flash a whole lot easier than having 1
    big timelime.
    Thanks
    Kevin

    Hi Larry
No I am not a Flash developer, just looking for an option to
have a little programmability in Captivate.
I have just spent a few months looking at options for
producing learning apps - desktop or CD/DVD delivery rather than
the web. I had settled on Arthoware but then Adobe announced they
were not going to continue with this anymore. They suggest Flash,
Captivate or Director as alternatives But Flash is great for web,
not great for desktop or CD/DVD (distributing swf files not a good
idea as they are too insecure), Captivate has no programmability
and Director has little or no question/learning objects. So really
    no alternative to Arthorware.
My view based on a very quick look at Captivate is that one
way may be to build individual scenes in Flash and then import
these into Captivate slides. No control over program flow or
    writing to file, etc though.
I had a feeling integration would be an issue, the
ex-Macromedia products were/are good but all built using different
    languages - Flash/Actionscript, Director/Lingo and Arthorware had
yet another language. Hopefully Adobe will copy the guys at
Microsoft and try to re-build the products on the same framework
all using the same programming language, then we may have
    consistence and better integration

  • Photoshop (CS3 - Vista Ultimate) layer effects issues

I am running a Vista PC with 4GB RAM and other complimentarily high spec hardware.
I am having trouble when adding 'stroke' effects to layers. At times I end up with horrendous colour-of-the-stoke spots/patches all over my layer. I have boild the issue down to the following reason: there are small one-pixelish or larger 'holes' in the layer and therefore the stroke is placed around these 'holes'. If the stroke is placed 'inside' then the spots/patches will appear but when the stroke is placed on the 'outside' then the spots/patches do not appear.
This issue happens pretty much all the time when stretching and distorting and warping a layer or (in particular) when adding, for example, white space to a layer and then popping a stroke onto it.
I do not seem to remember it happening in the past - since a year past (mid-2007) - but seems to be happening to an increasing degree recently. I never noticed it happening before using CS3.

    I solved the problem.

  • Export to Flash CS3 doesn't work

    Hello,

    Leoš

    Hi Leoš,
I guess you are searching in the wrong place. Its not
    C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Flash
    CS3\cs\Configuration\Importers
    It should be
    For XP:
    <Windows Drive Letter>:\Documents and Settings\<user
    directory>\Local Settings\Application Data\Adobe\Flash
    CS3\<language>\Configuration\Importers
    For Vista:
    <Windows Drive Letter>:\Users\<user
    directory>\AppData\Local\Adobe\Flash
    CS3\<language>\Configuration\Importers
Windows Drive Letter is the drive in which windows is
installed into. Generally it is 'C' (without quotes)
Anyway, I dont think there is support for Czech version of
Flash to export from Captivate. However you can try this out:
    Copy RDMFISTUB9.dll into
    For XP:
    <Windows Drive Letter>:\Documents and Settings\<user
    directory>\Local Settings\Application Data\Adobe\Flash
    CS3\<language>\Configuration\Importers\
    For Vista:
    <Windows Drive Letter>:\Users\<user
    directory>\AppData\Local\Adobe\Flash
    CS3\<language>\Configuration\Importers\
(Ex path for dll: For XP, C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe
    Captivate 4\RDMFISTUB9.dll)
    Copy RdJsfl.dll into
    For XP:
    <Windows Drive Letter>:\Documents and Settings\<user
    directory>\Local Settings\Application Data\Adobe\Flash
    CS3\<language>\Configuration\External Libraries\
    For Vista:
    <Windows Drive Letter>:\Users\<user
    directory>\AppData\Local\Adobe\Flash
    CS3\<language>\Configuration\External Libraries\
(Ex path for dll: For XP, C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe
    Captivate 4\RdJsfl.dll)
Copy AdobeCaptivate Folder inside ActionScript Folder into
    For XP:
    <Windows Drive Letter>:\Documents and Settings\<user
    directory>\Local Settings\Application Data\Adobe\Flash
    CS3\<language>\Configuration\Classes\
    For Vista:
    <Windows Drive Letter>:\Users\<user
    directory>\AppData\Local\Adobe\Flash
    CS3\<language>\Configuration\Classes\
(Ex path for folder: For XP, C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe
    Captivate 4\ActionScript\AdobeCaptivate)
You can get RDMFISTUB9.dll, RdJsfl.dll in Adobe Captivate 4
    installed directory
(Generally this should be C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe
    Captivate 4)
Now try to import a cp file into captivate.

  • Sending Captivate 3 projects to Flash CS3

I am have a consistant problem with the background slide
layer being sized when I export a Captivate 3 project to Flash CS3.
I have tried several different projects and they all react the
same. The Layer for the slide background resizes to about 1/2 of
the orginial size but the overal (screen) project size stays the
same with all other components remaining at the correct position.
I encounter the same problem when I import a Captivate 3 file

Everything else is as it should be but the graphic is

Yeah this was asked and answered a couple of times recently
    - The slide backgrounds are all held on one layer in Flash.
    Looks to
consistently be layer 2, named Slide Backgrounds :-)
    - This layer is locked. So click on the little padlock and
    unlock the layer.
    - Select "Onion Skin" and "Edit Multiple Frames"
    - Two little 'start onion skin" and "end onion skin"
    indicators appear at
the top of the timeline - move them to the start and end of
    the timeline, so
    they encompass the whole project.
    - Select the Slide Backgrounds layer so that all of the Slide
    Background
images are selected at once. You may need to also click on
    the background.
    - If you get it right. You'll see size and location values
    for the
    background in the Properties panel.
    - Type in the correct slide background size, and position
    0,0.
I sent in a draft technote to Adobe about this last week, so
    hopefully it
will show up on Adobe.com sometime soon.

  • Quicktime movie export from Flash CS3 is skipping frame.

When I try to export Quicktime movie from Flash CS3, the
resulting mov file is skipping frames. i.e.: The movie is showing
    frame number 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 7, 7, 10, 11, 12, 12, 12, 15
    etc...
As you can see the frame number 7 is repeated 3 times and
frame 8 and 9 are nowhere to be found.
The last configuration I used is 960x540, Sorenson video 3
medium quality, 25 fps, keyframe every 25 frames. 6400 kbits/s.
I tried various configurations, with different codecs and even
with keyframe all frames and I always get simillar problems.
Anyone have an idea what is going on, and how to fix this?
    Thank you,
    Olivier.

The QT exporter in Flash is honestly my least favorite
feature - not the feature itself but how it
works (or how it doesn't work in some cases). For me it is
almost unusable unless you have a very
short timeline, small stage, lower frame rate - like AS
generated effects or something - otherwise,
for true frame accuracy to video output - it is not reliable
enough and not fast enough for any real
    world production environment.
So typically for me - I love SWF2Video (www.flashants.com) as
it takes any SWF and makes it into an
AVI that is frame accurate no matter what the frame rate is -
quite incredible - enough so that I
always felt it should have been bundled with Flash (as well
    as Wacom tablets).
Harmony is an incredible product - as is SOLO and TBS (Toon
Boom mStudio) - each of those programs
are dedicated animation programs designed for output to video
    - Flash has a lot of hats to fill and
it was never really designed for animation to video even
though many of us have found it suitable
for all intents and purposes as an animation program for full
    production.
But all in all - the quicktime exporter doesn't really
deliver how we would expect it too I am sorry
to say - I only hope it works as well as it does on the Mac
(Mac users could always choose to export
to Quicktime Video but not PC users).
For now if I am exporting to video I keep it all on the
timeline or nested in Graphic symbols or use
    the SWF2Video tool.
    hope this helps.

I am trying to use Flash on Windows Vista Ultimate.
Installing the program tells me a mistake "error in the

I would download a new installer, you can get the trial

Sounds like a corrupt exe. But yes, make sure and run as

  • Captivate 3 is wrong size when importing into Flash CS3

I've tried exporting, publishing etc. and no matter how I
try, when I import into Flash CS3 the size of the Captivate content
(background screens, in particular) are too small. For example, I
captured a 423x424 area for my Captivate project. When I import
into a Flash CS3 project with the same dimensions the Captivate
content (screens) are more like 203x203.5 and the mouse path and
slide context starting positions are upper left corner. I've tried

why the hell doesnt Adobe say that flash is required to

    Hi Jim,
Thanks for your feedback. The first thing I tried was to import the MXF packages (I don't see lone MP4's) into Premiere. That did not work. So I exported the MXF files using Sony's U1 player/recorder.
I think its a Vista and/or codec problem, as my friend who workes on an XP machine is able to open MXF's in CS3.
