Exporting changes in lightroom as permanent physical file

Is it possible to take the edits made in lightroom and turn it into a permanent physical file? I'm using RAW files in lightroom on a macbook pro, and whenever I edit the files and then export them, all it does is export the originals and (sometimes) the sidecar XMP files (this happening sometimes and not always is a completely different problem that I don't want to get into now). Is there any way to edit, and then export the changes made? I'm trying to edit the photos and then save the edits and send them to clients who do not use lightroom or programs that read sidecar file info. I want the changes made to an actual picture.
Any thoughts?

I guess I must have been using the "original" setting. I figured it kept the original file format (canon RAW) and just changed the information, but I understand now about exporting the original file, not just "original" format. What's the next best choice... DNG?

  • Exporting metadata from Lightroom to a flat file.

    I would like to export the metadata in a lightroom database to a flat file or Excel sheet. Is this possible? I'm using lightroom on a PC.

    John,
    Thanks for your reply and the references to the tools. I ran the sqlLite Database Browser to look at the LR database, and to be honest it was pretty much gibberish to me. There's over 50 tables in the database and some quick browsing through them revealed data that would seem to require a knowledge of the database structure to extract. I'm a photographer with very good knowledge of how to use software tools to do my job, but I'm not a programmer and really don't have the time or the desire to become one.
    My point is any good database software should have the capability to generate at least a flat file of the information contained within. In LR's case, I (and it seems others based on feature requests) would like to see a capability of exporting a CSV or tab-delimited file of the information contained in the side panels (i.e., keywords, the metadata browser, and the metadata panel for starters) on an image-by-image basis. I could then use the output in any of several other tools to do what I need.
    Thanks again for your helpful links. Maybe someone can come up with a "CSV generator" using one of those tools that could be shared among LR users.

    Hi Subash,
    Do you want change the Physical File name or the Path from PROD to SID.

    The Initial view setting works perfectly when the file is opened in Acrobat after setting the desired Initial View.
    When you upload the file onto Wordpress, and view it on that website in the browser...it might be using a different pdf handler program which might be causing this issue ( it would be helpful, if you could provide the screenshot) , however when you download the pdf again from wordpress server...and open in Acrobat/Reader...then what  exactly happens ?  Does the pdf opens in the desired Initial View setting?

  • Trying to export RAW originals from Aperature 3 to LightRoom 4: I choose File Export Originals. I think then Pictures LR. But then I can't find files in LR library.Files seem stuck in Pictures as NEF

    Trying to export RAW originals from Aperature 3 to LightRoom 4: I choose File>Export>Originals. Then Pictures>LR. But then I can't find files in LR library.Files seem stuck in Pictures as NEF and or DNG files. I know Im stuck on something dumb but I am stuck. Help?

    You now need to import those files into Lightroom.
    BTW, Lightroom uses a "referenced" system so your images will always be in the folders you download/copy them to. Lightroom is a database first and foremost, albeit with non-destructive editing capabilities (effectively Adobe Camera Raw).

    You don't need to maintain all versions of the upgrade chain, but many of us do in case we need to work on a legacy file. If you want to rmove a version, though, ti should be done BEFORE installing the later one. Just reinstall CS5 and things should get back to normal.

  • When exporting out of lightroom the color of my picture channges significantly

    I use windows 8 and tried exporting out of lightroom through firefox and this did not help either

    Hi Shmuglak.  Thank you for the information.  I tried those things but did not work.    I just got windows 8 and just downloaded photoshop CC and Lightroom from the cloud.   My settings in Lightroom under preferences are :   Under jpeg preview it is checked on fast load data.   Under external editing the color space is prophoto.   Under additional external editor it is set to preset (Custom).  Under Default Develop Settings the only thing checked is apply auto mix when first converting to BW.   Under export module:   Location:   set to same as original folder and no check mark on add to catalog.   Under Post Processing I have tried do nothing and tried firefox.
    It is funny that when I export a picture from lightroom using firefox that picture  pops for preview and the picture looks fine but then when I go to my email and try to email that same picture and use send with a file attachment the picture looks aweful on my desktop but when looking at it on the ipad or iphone the picture looks fine.
    Any other suggestions would be great
    thank you

    I don't know if this is your case but I have a similar problem (and has been helped out by some kind soul on this forum). The change of color may happen if you are re-importing the exported pictures into the Lightroom catalog. If this is what you are doing, some import presets may be applied and this may cause the color change. I'm talking about this setting, sheck if it is enabled. If it is, disable it and see if it helps.

  • Physical files restoration

    Hello,
    Is it possible to setup a Test server par restoring (copying) the physical files from my production server? We are running Oracle 9i version2. In fact we have moved from one server to another , more powerful server. Now I would to make the old server a test server. I tried by doing en export/import but it is taking too much time.
    Please how can go about it and later be able to easly update the old server to the new.
    Thanks

    we have change the physical server. So they migrate the oracle database from the old server to the new server. Both servers are running Oracle 9i version 2 and the OS is SUSE 9. The production database is having more datafile today and the file and folders structure are not the same as the old server. SO i want to copy the files from the new server to the old server that will be using as the TEST server.
    So could you provide me the steps by steps way to go about it.
    The main difference between the two database today is primarly their folder structure and the number of files in different tablespaces
    Thanks in advanceDirectory structure can be different both server ,do following steps.
    1.Take cold backup from production database .To doing this you need shutting down your database(production).
    Before shutting down database you have to identify all files(control,data,log)
    sqlplus "/as sysdba"
    /*identify controlfiles*/
    select name from v$controlfile;
    /*identify datafiles*/
    select name from v$datafile;
    /*identify logfiles*/
    select member from v$logfile
    shutdown immediate;2.Transfer these files(also you need copy pfile if you do not use pfile then
    create that from as pfile as create pfile='pfilelocation' from spfie ) to new server(using rsync or others ways)
    3.In new server edit pfile according new directories(change control_files,user and background_dump_dest,etc..)
    4.Startup database in new server as:
    export ORACLE_SID=<YOURSID>
    sqlplus "/as sysdba"
    startup mount pfile='pfile_location';
    /*Now you need change location datafiles/logfiles to new location*/
    alter database rename file <datafile_name_n> to 'new_transferred_location';
    alter database rename file <logfile_name_n> to 'new_transferred_location';
    alter database open;Other way you can using rman backup database and can restore this in new server as:
    1.Backup database in production server as:
    rman target /
    configure controlfile autobackup on;
    shutdown immediate;
    startup mount;
    backup database;2. then copy generated backup files to new server and:
    export ORACLE_SID=<YOURSID>
    rman target /
    startup nomount;
    restore restore spfile to pfile from  'autobackup_location'
    /*This bk file was generated first step*/
    /*then edit pfile according new directories(change control_files,
    user and background_dump_dest,etc..)*/
    shutdown immediate;
    startup nomount;
    restore controlfile from  'autobackup_location';
    alter database mount;
    catalog start with 'transferred_backup_location';
    restore database;
    recover database;
    alter database open; In additionally Total Questions:  13 (13 unresolved) .If your question has been answered then mark this as answered and mark your correct/helpful post

  • Dynamic Physical File names on AL11

    Hi,
    I have the following requirement.
    I have almost 25 files to be exported onto AL11 using OpenHub from various infoproviders and I used the "Logical File name" option to do it.
    I would like to have the physical file names as " ZINFOPROV_<DATE>_<TIME> " and Infoprovider tech. name should get populated dynamically somehow.
    I was looking at the following thread for the same req : Re: Open Hub File name Change
    I defined my logical file name definition as
    Logical file    Z_SALES
    Name            Used for SALES
    Physical file   ZINFOPROV_<DATE>_<TIME>
    Data format     ASC
    Applicat.area   BW
    Logical path    Z_SALES
    I would like this ZINFOPROV populated dynamically.
    Any have any inputs/suggestions.

    Hi Kumar,
    You have a very good question and also shown the viewer of your post the way forward. Well i got your answer from your question only. Considering <DATE> as one kind of literals, you need a literal to identify the infoprovider as one part of your filename. Now my answer is not direct resolution but it may lead you to your answer. Here are the list of other literals that might be of use to you.....

  • How to remove a watermark from exported pictures in lightroom.

    Hi everyone.  I accidentally deleted a collection I was working on from lightroom 4 and the files were NOT backed up. All of the photos were edited and had my watermark on them.  I exported all pictures into an album on my computer.  I thought I could import them back in and lightroom would recognize the history and I would be able to remove my watermark.  I need to create a disc for a customer and I NEED to get the watermark off.  Is there a way to some-how retrieve the deleted collection from lightroom, or remove the watermark from the re-imported pictures??

    What do you mean by "deleted a collection"??
    If you mean that the collection is no longer present in the Collection Panel on the left, but the photos remain cataloged in Lightroom, then you ought to be able to find these photos in the Grid View, or via any of Lightroom's search tools, and export them without a watermark.
    If you mean that the collection is no longer present in the Collection Panel on the left AND the photos no longer are present in Lightroom ... then ... ooops ... your best hope is a recent backup of the catalog file. If you don't have a recent backup (why not?), then: Alternative solution: if you had written the metadata to the files (which does not happen by default), then you could re-import the photos and your edits will appear; just export them without the watermark. If you have niether a recent backup nor saved metadata to the files, then I think you would need to start from scratch, import the photos again, edit them again, and export without watermark.
    Philosophical aside: if the case is that the photos are not present in Lightroom anymore, then you might want to change your workflow to always leave photos in Lightroom. But please, don't plan on re-importing photos, this is not a good practice.

  • "Automatically Write Changes into XMP" Not Saving XMP Files

    I tried finding some other discussions on this but I couldn't seem to find anything...
    I recently checked the "Automatically Write Changes into XMP" setting in my "Catalog Settings". However, as I continue to add pictures to my library and make changes, I do *not* see the XMP files being written to the location of the pictures (Nikon NEF files located on my hard-drive). In fact, I can't find the XMP files anywhere. If I want to output the XMP files I have to do a Ctrl + S (Photo --> Save Metadata to File).
    I did notice that when I unchecked the setting and re-checked it, *some* of the XMP files showed up. However, in my import of 24 photos, only 14 had XMP files. I had to manually "Save Metadata to File" to get the XMP sidecar files to show.
    Am I doing something wrong? Is something not working right? I'm a bit confused. I assumed it would automatically export the sidecar files.
    How often should it be outputting XMP sidecards? If I import a new image should the XMP sidecar file be created? Or is it created the first time I change an original picture?
    I am using Adobe Lightroom 2.0 (Camera Raw 4.5) on a Mac OS X 10.5.5.
    Thanks,
    -Leftquark

    @Eric: hitting cntrl+s works but can be tedeous on large galleries. I've been doing this but it can be a pain.
    @Jeannine: different topic than this thread but to answer anyways... Lightroom automatically saves all changes into your catalogue. You never need to dave your changes (here's the kicker though) as long as you do not move the original file. If you
    move the file than lightroom won't know that it's the same image as the one you've edited. Once you are done editing your image you will need to "export" the image to a new file (you don't wan to overwrite the original). If you don't export than only lightroom will have your edits. Lightroom is "non-destructive" Which means that it doesn't touch your original photo. Lightroom keeps a text file containing the instructions on what you did to make the edited version. Since your changes are just text inatryxtions you have to "export" the image to get your final image in a version you can put online, print, etc. But to answer your original question, I think you prob moves the original image. If not, could you give us more info?

  • Exporting photos to Lightroom

    Why does iphoto 11 (using external editor option) export and open my photos in LIghtroom 4 after I upgraded to LIghtroom 5?

    I am still a bit confused as to why iphoto gives you the option to edit in iphoto or use another application for external editing.
    iPhoto is a database. It can't work on any image that's not imported to the database. If you want to use an image from iPhoto somewhere else, you have to export it.
    Lightroom is a database. It can't work on any image that's not imported to the database. If you want to use an image from LIghtroom somewhere else, you have to export it.
    These two apps live at exactly the same point in the workflow. In essence, they do the same job.
    Neither application is an editor - in other words, neither application will edit a file. If you work on an image in either app the original file is not touched - it's always preserved - and to get your edited image you have to export it.
    The external editor command in iPhoto (and indeed in LR) is designed for use with a app that actually edits the file. Photoshop, Acorn, Pixelmator, Graphic Converter, etc etc are examples of such apps. There's no database. They directly change the file.
    So, when you use an external editor wth iPhoto here's what happens:
    iPhoto makes a copy of the original and sends it to the editor. The editor edits and saves, and the edited image comes back to iPhoto. So you have the original preserved and the edited version.
    If you send the image to another Manager, like LIghtroom, here's what happens: iPhoto makes a copy of the original and sends it to Lightroom. LIghtroom imports it. As you edit in LR the original is preserved and your decisions are recorded in the LR database. (Just like editing a photo in iPhoto). And then... well then there's no way back to iPhoto withou exporting from LR to the FInder and importing the resulting image, which then has no connection to the Original in iPhoto. You now have to copies of the original, one in each app.
    So, there is no good way to use LR as an editor with iPhoto (nor, indeed, vice versa).
