Exporting Crystal 11 Report to PDF

Hi,
I wish to run crystal reports on web server from asp code ( or any other method ).
The code that is in use was not written by me so I don't really follow what is going on.
We wish to run and export the report to pdf so that the user can view the pdf in their browser.
1. How do i check that my new installation is setup correctly?
2. The code is use is allong the lines of:
<!-- #include file="AlwaysRequiredStepsExport.asp" -->
<%
'Create a reference to the tables collection of the main report
Set mainReportTableCollection = oRpt.Database.Tables
Dim connProps
Dim connProp
Dim this_dsn
Dim this_db
For Each mnTable in mainReportTableCollection
     With mnTable.ConnectionProperties
        .Item("user ID") = username
        .Item("Password") = password
        .Item("DSN") = DSNName
        .Item("Database") = Database
     End With
       set mnTable.Qualifiers(1) = "mydatabasename"
       set mnTable.Qualifiers(2) = "dbo"
Next
Set CrystalExportOptions = oRpt.ExportOptions
ExportFileName = Request.QueryString("rep") & "_" & Request.QueryString("user") & CStr(Year(Date)) & CStr(Month(Date)) & CStr(Day(Date)) & CStr(Timer * 100) & ".PDF"
Path = Request.ServerVariables("PATH_TRANSLATED")
While (Right(Path, 1) <> "\" And Len(Path) <> 0)
     iLen = Len(Path) - 1
     Path = Left(Path, iLen)
Wend
ExportDirectory = Path
ExportType = "31" ' pdf option
CrystalExportOptions.DiskFileName = ExportDirectory & ExportFileName
CrystalExportOptions.FormatType = CInt(ExportType)
CrystalExportOptions.DestinationType = CInt(1)
oRpt.Export False
Response.Redirect (ExportFileName)
%>
The resulting page looks like:
http://myserver/temp/sbrp41_sthornton20096225300552.PDF
however the result is "The page cannot be found" with no pdf file created in the website\temp directory.
I have placed response.end after each step to try and see where\if an error occurs but no luck.
Any advice\help appreciated.

Hi,
Please ensure that the Session contains "oRpt" - Crystal Report Engine Report Object
before using the following line:
Set CrystalExportOptions = oRpt.ExportOptions
What happens if you change it to:
Set ExportOptions = Session("oRpt").ExportOptions
Please let me know the results.
Thanks,
Neeraj

  • Error in exporting from Interactive Report to PDF format

    Hello,
    i am using APEX and from an Interactive Report i am trying to export using Download | PDF format. The table and corresponding report has only text fields. Database character set is UTF-8. Up to now i haven't been able to get a PDF file that can be open from Adobe Acrobat Reader. Every file fails opening with message like "Adobe Reader could not open filename.pdf, because it is either not a supported file type or because the file has been damaged (for example, it was sent as an email attachment and wasn't correctly decoded). This happens for every report i have tried up to now. If i export report in CSV format all are ok.
    Is there a known bug with PDF download of APEX?
    TIA

    See this link: http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/database/application_express/html/configure_printing.html
    FOP & Cocoon are free (just need to install the software and configure) Bi Publisher I believe works only for Standard Reports and no Interactive reports at this time.. If you have the $$ BI Publisher is worth the investment!!
    Also, it is rumored that APEX 4.0 will have the PDF generation built in as apposed to the current model where you need to bolt something on..
    Thank you,

    Hi all,

    On my Windows environment the JRC export into PDF work perfectly. I know that there are some known issues regarding the usage of JRC on Linux environments. Could this be one of those?
    Any solution (or workaround) would be highly appreciated!
    Thank you!
    PS Maybe this is relevant: I use a MySQL database!

    What kind of image do you have in the report?
    Do you have -Djava.awt.headless=true specified for the Java JVM option?

    A message that indicates that the object reference is not set to an instance of the object is typically caused by one or more of the following reasons:
    There are soft page breaks within empty lists in the report.
    There are hidden groups within the report and you tried to export it to PDF.
    The report has a link to a subreport that is not published on the report server and you tried to export it to CSV.

  • Layout Issue after exporting crystal report XI in pdf format

    Hi All,
    I have developed a crystal report in XI version. I have set my page layout properties in the report to be in landscape orientation and A2 size sheet with No Printer(optimize for screen display) option unchecked. The problem is when I export the report in pdf and open the report in pdf for printing, it takes the printer preference settings that are set to portrait and letter format. If I change my printer prefence settings to landscape, it works fine. But, I do not want to change my printer preference settings and want that the settings that I am giving in crystal report designer must be taken for printing purposes in pdf.
    I hope, I was able to put forward the question correctly without any confusion.
    Can someone please help me out to find a solution ?
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi Akshay
    Always quote the actual version of Crystal Reports you are working with. E.g.; CR IX is not quite enough and the best place to find the actual version is in the Help | About screen of the CR designer.
    By CR XI, you could mean CR 11.0.x, or CR 11.5.x. If you are using CR 11.0.x, update to CR 11.5 (also referred to as CR XI R2). See this blog on how to.

  • Crystal Reports 10 Enterprise Server Issue - Exporting Large Reports to PDF

    Weu2019re implementing a Crystal Reports 10 Server for a customer but weu2019re having an issue with exporting large reports to PDF.  The report size that starts to show this issue is roughly 300 pages with 20 records per page.  We use the default Crystal ActiveX viewer.
    Basically what happens is that the user will launch the report in the ActiveX viewer and the large report will take a while to load, as much as 3 to 4 minutes.  The user may then wish to export to PDF.  Once they attempt it with these large reports the viewer will basically hang and possibly be processing but will then time-out after roughly 5 minutes with this error:
    u201CProxy Error
    The proxy server received an invalid response from an upstream server.
    The proxy server could not handle the request POST /thinqreports/THINQCrystalInterface.asp.
    Reason: Error reading from remote server
    IBM_HTTP_Server/6.1.0.9 Apache/2.0.47 (Unix) Server at lmsproxy.aurora.org Port 443u201D
    We believe this error is coming from a server on our network.  We have a proxy server between users and the Crystal Server that has a 5 minute time-out for connections.  What we want to know is:
    - Is there a way to speed up this export to PDF process?
    - Should the Crystal Viewer be keeping an http connection alive to the Crystal Report Server while its doing this export process?
    - If not, what port does Crystal Viewer use to communicate with the Crystal Report Server?
    - Is there something we can set in Crystal to keep an http connection open?
    - What is actually occurring during this export process?
    Occasionally, we may get the above error when simply launching a report, not just attempting to export to PDF.  We presume that is because loading the report into the Crystal Viewer from the Crystal Report Server is taking longer than 5 min.
    Anyone have any thoughts?  Thanks.
    Scott

    Scott,
    As this is happening within Enteprise (and I am assuming the report does not time out in the Crystal Reports Designer) I would suggest posting this to the BusinessObjects Enterprise Administration
    forum.
    My limited Enterprise knowledge would be to suggest scheduling the report as PDF but I don't know if that is a viable option for you.

  • No link after exporting Crystal report as pdf file

    Hello,
              If my Crystal Report contain link to the .avi file saved on the local hard disk and if I export the Report as .pdf file, pdf file does not contain that link. Why?
    The overall scenario is like-
    My application fires a query on SQL Server database and result of that query is stored in a Dataset. This dataset is set as a datasource to the Crystal report.  Now some, records (returned by the query) have .avi files(i.e. Event Videos which are stored on the local hard disk) associated with them. I have stored these .avi files in a specific path on local Hard disk say "C:/EventVideos/*.avi" .   I used a special format in these avi files name. (like - "EventVideo_1.avi" (This is for 1st event), "EventVideo_5.avi" (This is for 5th event)etc. to identify which avi is for which event. All events do not have avi files associated with them)
          Now, I take one object in crystal report. Using it's Format editor created a formula for hyperlink as -
          "file:///c:/EventVideos/EventVideo_" + {DataTable1.EventID} + ".avi" .
    EventID is the field of dataset which has ID's (like 0, 1, 2,  3, 4 etc) of all resulted events. It is of a String data type.
         Now when I export, my report as .xls, .rtf, .doc, I can open the avi files. When I bring cursor on this object, cursor get change to Hand and after click on it avi file start to play.
         But if I export it as .pdf, it does not contain the link for avi files. When I bring cursor on this object, it does not change to Hand, and after click on it nothing happens. No video play.
    I stick to this problem.
    Appreciate your help.
    Thanks in advance.

    Taken from CR Help File:
    "PDF format is a page-based format. The exported documents are intended for printing and redistribution. PDF format will export both layout and formatting in a manner that is consistent with how the report looks on the Preview tab. PDF format embeds the TrueType fonts that appear in the document. (Non-TrueType fonts are not supported.) This export format does not support Microsoft font-linking technologyu2014which is used to provide support for some extended character sets such as Chinese HKCS. Therefore, the fonts used in the report must contain all of the required glyphs. These URI types are supported for hyperlinks: "http:", "https:" and "mailto:".
    Therefore your hyperlink is not working as u are using File type when cr only supports http https and mailto uri types

    The stack trace is caused by whitespace in your CrystalReportViewer.jsp file.  Look up SAP Note 1199025 for the resolution.
    It's not related to the PDF formatting issue.  There's been changes to the formatting with the most recent version - Crystal Reports for Eclipse 2.0 - so if you haven't already, I recommend you upgrade.
    Note that there's differences in font metric calculation when using Adobe PDF format such that there's no way to get exact agreement between output of the CR and PDF.  But the latest version helps greatly.

    please help me for this problem
    many thank's

    Hi Ludek
    Thank you for your response. I have installed SP3 and ProcMon and still the same result.
    I applied a filter on ProcMon to filter out items where the path contains 'export'.
    There are a few items where the result is 'NAME NOT FOUND' but I don't think it necessarly had anything to do with the barcode. These include items such as 'EXPORT\MailDestType','EXPORT\DisableExportLiveOfficeSupport'','EXPORT\ExportDirectory' to name a few.
    What drew my attention was the ACCESS DENIED result on specifically the EXPORT\PDF folders. The detail for these are  Desired Access : All access, however the very same entry appears a little futher on as a SUCCESS but this is detailed as Desired Access: Query Value.
    So in summary it looks something like this:
    User : Server\XXX
    Operation : RegOpenKey
    Path : HKU\.DEFAULT\Software\Business Objects\Suite 12.0\Crystal Reports\Export\Pdf
    Result : ACCESS DENIED
    Desired Access : All Access
    User : Server\XXX
    Operation : RegOpenKey
    Path : HKU\.DEFAULT\Software\Business Objects\Suite 12.0\Crystal Reports\Export\Pdf
    Result : SUCCESS
    Desired Access : Query Value
    There are a few other entries that follow this pattern that exists in other locations such as HKLM\Software...
    Could this 'ACCESS DENIED' be the problem? and If so how do I, and should I give user XXX this ALL Access its looking for.
    Regards
    Elroy

  • Export Arabic Crystal Report To PDF

    Hi,
    I am using JRC component to build crystal reports in English & Arabic. All works well except exporting Arabic crystal report to PDF?
    Crystal File Format Schema: 12.0.0
    I was reading another 3 years old thread and this was stated there:
    "If you are using the Java Reporting Component, you will not be able to see Arabic characters in your PDF document because the JRC does not support font embedding, and only works with a specific character set when exporting to Adobe" Any from SAP can you please confirm that does this still hold true? And are there any chances or plan to add support in future?
    Regards
    SC

    Please disregard that part of the previous message.
    As mentioned earlier, it depends on which of our products you are using to export the report.  If you are using the Java Reporting Component, you will not be able to see Arabic characters in your PDF document because the JRC does not support font embedding, and only works with a specific character set when exporting to Adobe.
    If you are using the Crystal Reports designer or BusinessObjects Enterprise SDK to export the report, you will need to ensure you have the character set installed on the same machine; for BOE SDK it needs to be on the machine with all of the services.

  • Export Crystal Report to PDF

    Hi,
    in my Crystal Report (2008) is a chart, designed with Xcelsius 2008. The report is displayed well. When I export my Flash-Chart from Xcelsius to PDF the chart is displayed correctly in PDF document.
    When I export the Crystal Report to PDF my Flash-Chart is displayed completley grey in PDF document. There is the same issue when I schedule my Crystal Report to PDF on BO Edge-Server.
    Is this a known issue and can be fixed?

    I am bringing this subject back up because I am still having problems with this.  I am using CR 2008, Xcelsius 2008 and Edge 3.1 Enterprise Server along with a Visual Basic 2005 program.  I have Adobe Reader 9 loaded on both my local machine and the server where Edge is installed.
    I have a report that is passing flash variables to an embedded .swf file which is a pretty simple horizontal stacked bar chart.  When I view this report in CR on my local machine everything on the report is correct and I can print it to PDF and it is correct when I view it with Adobe Reader.  I can also print the report to a printer and get the desired result which is the most important thing here.
    My next step is saving the report to the Enterprise server.  I then run my Winform Visual Basic program that passes the paramters to the report and schedules it to run on the server.  The report runs fine and we access it with InfoView.  Again the report looks fine because when we open it, it opens with Adobe Reader on the server.  The problem is when we try to print this instance of the report from the server the chart keeps doubling up the stacked bars so there are two of them instead of the one.
    Does anybody have any ideas????
    Thank you in advance.

    For the web application folder and the pdf export folder, Read, Write and Modify permission has been set for the following accounts:
    1. myServer\Administrators
    2. myServer\ASPNET
    3. myserver\IUSR_myserver
    4. myServer\IWAN_myserver
    5. Network Service
    6. System
    7. myServer\Users
    I think it is the permission problem, but how to set the right permission at the window server 2003 SP1? please advise. thanks

    Hello,
    It is a permission issue. When you export Crystal first tries to write the file to the local TEMP folder and then delete it to see if it has read/write permissions. If it fails to delete the file you need to give the TEMP folder on the WEB server permissions for your application. Check Microsofts WEB site on how to set permissions on shared folders for your ASP application.
    You may want to search in forums also, this looks familar.
    Thank you

  • Exporting Crystal Report to pdf

    Hi,
    We have a crystal report that is stored in Business Objects Enterprise XI 3.1. The requirement is to connect to the Enterprise and export the report as pdf in .NET web page. I see a lot of RAS samples. But we are required to use the Business Objects Enterprise sdk dlls for this purpose.
    Can somebody provide me a sample for this.
    Thanks
    Irene

    Hi Adam,
    Yes I am trying to use the Page Server option of RAS to open the report. That is only one working due to firewall restrictions.
    But I was trying to set the report parameters in the report Object and assumed that it should be reflected when opening the report. But that does not seem to work. So now what I did is,  I tried to set the report source to report viewer control and change the parameters through code.
            boEnterpriseService = boEnterpriseSession.GetService("PSReportFactory");
            boReportAppFactory = (PSReportFactory)boEnterpriseService.Interface;
            ISCRReportSource objRep = boReportAppFactory.OpenReportSource(boInfoObject.ID);
            CrystalReportViewer1.ReportSource = objRep;
            CrystalDecisions.Shared.ParameterFields  objFields = CrystalReportViewer1.ParameterFieldInfo;
            CrystalDecisions.Shared.ParameterDiscreteValue objDis = new CrystalDecisions.Shared.ParameterDiscreteValue();
            objDis.Value = "Product Category";
            objFields[0].CurrentValues.Clear();
            objFields[0].CurrentValues.Add(objDis);
            CrystalReportViewer1.ShowFirstPage();
    So the report shown in the viewer is opened with the parameters specified. But now I have the problem of exporting. I need to export this report with the parameters specified in code to pdf.
    What are the options. I tried using the CrystalDecisions.CrystalReports.Engine.ReportDocument so I can do the export but am getting Communication Failure:FWM 0001.
    Is there any way of directly exporting the report from the viewer without user intervention ?
    Thanks
    Irene

  • Drill-down options on exported Crystal reports (PDF/HTML)

    Is it possible to drill-down on the exported crystal reports in PDF/HTML format?

    PDF format does not support drill-down.
    PDF format supports bookmarking to specific locations in the document, but not something refined as drilling.
    Sincerely,
    Ted Ueda

    Hello guys,
    I'm trying to export a .rpt file into PDF. The exporting works fine without any problem. However, there is only one problem. Report has a time-based chart and the date format i want to show is dd-mm. How do i get this to work? I tried setting a default format for the .rpt file, but PDF export does not take this format. Whats the work around for this?
    Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

    PDF export is one of the things that i'm using CR template for. THere are other things as well which work fine. In the PDF export too, i'm just facing one problem. In case of graphs where date is to be shown, i want to show date in a specific format (dd-mm), whereas, in the PDF export the format is defaulted to mm/dd/yyyy format. I have set the date format (dd-mm) globally for the .rpt file, still it doesnt seem to be helping.
    Next thing i tried is, split the date into dd & mm as individual numbers. I then concatenate 2 nos. with a '-' sign in between to get the desired format. When i run the report with CR, all looks good. But when i export it into PDF, 2 decimals are added in front of each digit & the whole date format is disturbed. e.g if the date & month is 11-04 PDF displays it as 11.00-04.00.
    Any ideas as to how i can correc this?
    I have set the default number format for the .rpt file to 0 decimals. Even then this problem
    Any suggestions pls..
