Exporting/Delivery to UK Broadcasters in digital format: .mxf AS-11

Hi all,
I'm reading more and more about digital delivery to UK Broadcasters becoming a reliaty, and the format will be .mxf AS-11.  I understand this is achievable with MC7 (I appreciate this isn't out yet), has anyone heard if/when Premiere wil include this option?  You can already do it on FCPX (addmitedly with an expensive 3rd party plugin).
Cheers,
Paul

Because I foresee no need to ever deliver to a European broadcaster, I have no inclination to fully understand what AS-11 is, and therefor couldn't even say if it is currently possible or not.
But I can say that Adobe doesn't generally announce what the new features will be until they are released, or shortly before.

  • Converting record albums to digital format and importing to iTunes

I'm trying to convert record albums to digital format using a USB turntable and import the tracks to iTunes.  I have upgraded to the latest versions of software for the turntable and iTunes (10.5), but keep getting a message "unable to export to iTunes."  When iTunes opens up, it indicates that it is converting a temp file (e.g., temp6) rather than the individual tracks.
Confession:  I did something really dumb that may well have contributed to my problem.  The first time I started using the turntable, I recorded the album side; typed in the artist, album, and names of individual tracks; and clicked on the button to begin the export to iTunes.  When the iTunes windows opened up, things seemed to be working well.  I could see the individual tracks listed as they were being converted.  Then, a popup screen came up asking if I wanted to upgrade to the latest version of iTunes (I didn't have the 10.5 version at the time).  I temporarily lost control of my body (and mind) and clicked on yes.  This halted the conversion in process and I have never been able to get things working again, despite uninstalling and then reinstalling both the turntable software and iTunes software (including iTunes, Quicktime, Apple Software Update, Apple Mobile Device Support, Bonjour, and Apple Application Support).
I would really appreciate some help with this!

Do not use the "export to..." feature.  Let the conversion program create a file in an iTunes compatible format (such as WAV, AAC, or MP3) and then add that file to iTunes.

I've encoded a vinyl LP record into digital format and recorded it onto an usb as MP3 file. But when I tried to copy it onto my ipod classic, I get a message stating "was not copied to the ipod because it cannot be played on this ipod". Why?

I was refering to the "sample rate", normally 44.1 KHz, the iPod might not be able to play tracks with a non-standard rate. Otherwise I'm not sure what the issue might be.

  • Music collection in digital format no cd storage playable in car and iMac?

I have many cassettes I'd like to transfer into the mp3 format which works on the Sony MEX-1GP Giga Panel car radio. I also want to have them play on my iMac G5 10.4.11. Will this work or am I out of luck on the compatibility front? Would I need to make 2 copies from cassette, one for mac and one for sony, or can I make a single copy and alter it to play in the other format?
What I really want is to have a music collection in digital format and no cd storage that will play on the mac and in the car. I don't own the sony radio-I just saw it as a way to play this hoped for digital library. So any other suggested ways to meet this goal would be of help.
Thanks for any tips for cassette conversion into Mac friendly files too!

One way is to connect your Cassette deck (through the Tape out sockets of your amplifier) to the audio in socket of your computer. On the computer you'll need audio editing software to capture and edit the resulting long file into individual tracks that can be added to the iTunes Library. There are a number of commercial programs for this (I use Sound Studio for the Mac). If want to try out the process first you could try the open source program Audacity which has Linux, Mac and Windows versions at this link: Audacity
In addition to the software you'll need RCA to 3.5 mm audio plug cables to connect the Tape Out sockets of your amplifier to the audio inputs of your computer. There's a short guide to recording here: How to record from vinyl and cassette to a computer also from the BBC Copying Vinyl Recordings to CD
If your Mac hasn't got an audio in socket you can have a look at the Griffin iMic which connects to a USB port and comes with some software of it's own: iMic USB audio interface

  • How to Convert Analog Music Recordings into a Digital Format

I am relatively new to Mac computing and would really like to convert my older LP records into a digital format so I can listen to them via an IPod or CD player.
I need to know the basics and what I would need to be successful. Can anyone help?

    Hi Kcv
    no prob's!
so for the interface, well it really depends on a few factors:
    1. your budget
    2. what else you will be using it for (e.g. will you be making/creating music using Garageband or perhaps any audio creation program in he future?)
    3. the portability of the interface.
    4. Whether you really need firewire (relates to 2.)
Needless to say, the more you spend the better the quality and vice versa. However, if you're thinking of only transfering vinyl to digital then the imic will suffice. However, i found a few others that might give you a few more choices. I can't vouch for their quality - but the manufacturers are all reputable in the world of semi-pro audio.
    1. http://www.dv247.com/invt/30313/ Edirol UA-1EX (USB around £25 - sorry i'm London based so am not sure what that is i canadian dollars but am sure it will be better than the price if you convert it yourself)
    2. http://www.dv247.com/invt/32730/ Behringer UCA202 (also USB and around £24)
    3. http://www.dv247.com/invt/30207/ Behringer FCA202 (cheapest firewire interface i've ever seen similar price to the above)
If you anticipate using Garageband or another program to make music then i'd recommend getting a firewire interface and spending more.
the imic seems cheaper than the rest and i'm sure will do the job just fine.
As for where you can purchase it. Just did a quick google and came up with www.vibecomputers.com selling the imic at about $41 canadian and FrontierPC selling the imic at $50 CDN.
If you choose another product look for a computer or audio equipment retailer.
    Cool.
Hope that helps. By the way if you feel any of the posts in this thread have helped feel free to award stars appropriately.
If you have any more questions feel free to ask!

  • Exporting fixed length records in a .txt format

How can I configure Crystal Report detail records so they can be exported in a fixed legth .txt record format?
    Using Crystal Reports 9.2.3.884

    Post Author: SKodidine
    CA Forum: Crystal Reports
I have created CR detail records fixed length of 400 and then exported them to text.
This is how I did it, there might be other ways and I even though I created them in CR XI, it should be similar in CR 9.
Let us assume that your fixed length record needs to be 100 bytes long.  Create a formula with all the fields concatenated, that you would otherwise display in the details section.  Create a second formula that will use the space function to put trailing spaces.
Here is an example for a fixed length record of 400:
Here are my two fields in my record that have been concatenated.
    Formula 1: RecordType & totext(BatchNumber,"0000000");
    Formula 2: {@Formula1} & space(400 - length({@Formula1}));

I would probably export to a simple text file (ASCII-delimited or fixed-length fields), then import to Excel and save as Dbase format.
But the following link provides a way to do it directly in PL/SQL:

Just as a preventative measure try running Disk Utility in the Utilities Folder inside the Applications Folder. Run Repair Disk Permissions on the whole hard drive.
According to this disuccsion group posting on MacRumours.com, Error -50 is a permissions error and repairing permissions may be enough to get you going again:

  • High Resolution Conversion Of Mono LPs To Digital Format

I'm planning to convert some old mono LPs from the 50's to digital format and I'm thinking of buying a Numark USB turntable to do this. If I set the sample rate to 192,000 and turn 24 bit recording on, will I be able to capture an audio track that truly reflects these setting? Or will the signal be degraded somewhere along the line before it gets into Logic? When the turntable converts the analog signal into a digital signal that can pass into the computer via the USB connection, are there limitations to this digital signal?
I also have a Firewire Alesis MultiMix 8. So I can also get a regular turntable and pass it into the MultiMix. But again, I wonder if the conversion to a Firewire digital format imposes restrictions on the resolution of the signal.
If anyone can shed light on this, it will be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

There's probably no useful content above 20khz on the
source, and there's no point at sampling much higher
than double the highest frequency of the source.
I'm certainly not an expert in these matters, but my impression is that experts argue passionately about both of these points.
I don't even own a turntable, but I've heard LP supporters claim that a good cartridge can reproduce frequencies several octaves above 20k, and they claim this is one reason why they like the sound. I can't comment from personal experience.
Regarding Nyquist, though, my very limited understanding is that the B / 2B relationship refers only to frequency, not tonal quality. A 40k sampling rate is sufficient for resolving a 20k source frequency, but at two samples per period, it sure isn't going to give you any meaningful resolution on that waveform (i.e. a 20k sine wave and a 20k square wave are going to be sampled identically at a 40k rate, right ?) Seems to me that even if you restrict audio to a 20-20k frequency band, increased sample rates are going to give you increased resolution, and while there will certainly be diminishing returns, there's not necessarily a ceiling on what might be perceived as better sound. One way to think about analog sound is that it has an infinite sampling rate... maybe increasing the sampling rate will ALWAYS get closer to an analog sound source ?
Ahem... hey... not trying to be argumentative, tele_player... it's an interesting discussion, at any rate...
The point I was trying to respond to was more practical, though... I think Martin's point was that there was some specific disadvantage to higher sampling rates, regarding plug-ins ? A disadvantage other than the obvious (increased bandwidth) ?

  • I have had some 16mm film converted to digital format. Photoshop displays it ok. Then when I save

I have had some 16mm film converted to digital format avi 190 by 1080 pixels, 72 pixels/inch. Photoshop displays it ok. Then when I save the file as a psd, the quality of the video displayed deteriorates when I bring the file up to work on it. Then no matter how it is rendered, it deteriates further. I am using a windows 7 computer. I have tried this with an Nvidia Quatro 1800 card and an Nvidia Gforce 760 card.
Why does not photoshop at least keep the quality of the video as origional in a psd file? I can understand offering to degrade the display for faster display, but not the rendering degradation. I have tried H.264 High Quality and DPX full range 8 bit, they both degrade the quality, even though the origional avi file is an 8 bit depth, the others degrad the colors considerably.
I have worked on this for several months and am very disappointed in photoshop 6.
Where can I get information on what is going on in photoshop 6 as to how to control how it saves a file and more control of the color depth?

You may want to post this to the Premiere Pro forum as this may fall under 'video/film issues' (just a guess). Someone there may have had similar experiances.

  • Transfering from analog Hi8 film to digital format on a Mac ...

    Hi,
I have Hi8 films that I want to transfer to digital format on my Mac. What is the best way to get the best digital result ? I was thinking of:
    1. using a Hi8 camera with a firewire outpout
    2. using a Hi8 camera with a ADVCmini Grass Valley converter
    3. any suggestion ???
    Regards.
    Robert

What is the best way to get the best digital result ?
"Best" is really a matter of personal preference and a comparison of the specific devices involved. I have an old Sony TRV520 which tends to play old Hi-8/DV tapes better than an optional standalone player I sometimes borrow from a friend for use with my ADVC300 converter whose settings/features allow a better black-point conversion and improved brightness/color saturation, etc. Which I use often depends on the condition of the tape and the content. If you already own one of the Hi-8/DV crossover or passthrough camcorder models and it works satisfactorily, I would stick with it unless I had an alternatively higher quality player and planned on purchasing a high-quality standalone converter. On the other hand, I would not likely invest in the purchase of an older camcorder if I already had a standalone player and only needed to add an A-D converter.

getting red frames when export from cc 2014.2 codec used panasonic mxf format long GOP 50p. If any solution please help on that

i solve my red frame problem. originally my project was done in premiere pro cc 2014.2 & i render in Encoder cc 2014. in newer version i get lots of red frames. i complain a lot to adobe customer support . they said they know the issues but they couldn't solve. I was so tired from adobe customer support. one of the worse customer services i had. My friend got the mac pro & e got premiere pro cc 7.2 version. i convert all my footage mxf to mp4 in encoder cc 7.2 version and i succeed. i don't get any red frames.
So i think the problem is in adobe encoder cc 2014.2 version. newer version.
