Exporting DropCaps to ePub from CS5.5?

I'm having trouble exporting DropCaps from CS5.5 to ePub. I've tried two ways: creating DropCaps as part of a paragraph style and, secondly, simply doing them as a character style. Neither way (nor a combination) show up when I export to epub. ...  Any help would be appreciated.   M.

Can you attach a sample page from the file you're working with? This is one of the things that I've found works pretty well in InDesign. I create a paragraph style that has a character style for the dropcap (don't just leave it set to None), but you still have to manually apply the style to the dropcap before exporting to EPUB. But I bet you've already gotten an answer about this one.

  • Problem Exporting Book to .EPUB from InDesign CS4

I am creating an .EPUB book with InDesign CS4. The problem I am having is when I export. I have created a book file separating all me sections into separate InDesign  files (Cover, Title Page, Chapter 1, ect.). Once I have set it all up I export and the .EPUB and the document is incomplete. I can see the exverything up till the end of chapter 1. Then there is a blank gap until the couple end pages. It basically leaves out the whole body of the book. I separated the chapters so that I could create the navigation bar for the .EPUB. Is there something I am forgeting to do for this to happen. Thoughts? Suggestions?

I am having the exact same problem.  When exporting a book from CS4 only the TOC and the first Chapter or section export correctly.  Inside the epub file everything seems configured correctly but all the chapter or sections after the first are xhtml files without any content, just the initial structure of an ordinary xhtml file.
Anyone have any answers to this?  If we can't get the export from book option working it basically makes InDesign useless for Epubbing things.  Which makes me think this isn't a common problem or if it is there is a solution.
    Help!
Oh, and I am using the ME edition of CS4 in case that matters, though I don't see that it should.

  • Exporting 24bit/96kHz audio from CS5.5 for SD DVD?

Hi, I'm trying to export a timeline with 24bit/96kHz for encoding to SD DVD. Using AME to encode before importing assets into Encore, I see nothing but 48kHz. Ditto for BRD export. Is that normal? I do have a Matrox MXO2 mini installed which does not support 96kHz but I started a new, non-Matrox project and exported the project into that and deleted render files and re-rendered. Same thing: no 96kHz audio encode option.  Yet, even SD DVD has always supported 96kHz audio.
It doesn't even look like AME allows exporting an "audio only" file with 96kHz that is compatible with DVD.
DVD supports uncompressed PCM audio but alas my total exportable file size would be just under 9GB and dual layer DVD supports 8.5GB so it's too big a file to do that. And when I imported the whole timeline (vid+aud) into Encore using Bridge, it shows the Audio as "Untranscoded" which I assume means Encore will definitely transcode it. Note: I imported the timeline into Encore using Bridge and then separately imported an MPEG-2 DVD transcode done in AME and then deleted its audio file and replaced it with previously "Bridge-transferred" timeline. So, Encore timeline consists of an AME encoded video track and an uncompressed audio portion of the Premiere timeline. But again, I assume that even if the estimated resulting file size was not too big, Encore would still encode the audio track. (Encore shows the video as "Don't Transcode" because I already encoded it wity AME.
Is there anyway on Earth to use Adobe CS5.5 suite to make a DVD with 96kHz audio?
Thanks for any help from people who have actual experience and insight on doing this. Speculation is not what I'm after. Surely someone around here has made a DVD with 24bit/96kHz audio. I recorded a symphony orchestra with a Sound Devices 788T in BWF at above spec and my exec produder wants to hear my audio on his audiophile system with tubes and really expensive speakers. I do too. This is lame if I cannot.
    Thanks!

    Hi Jeff,
Thanks for your valuable insight on all of this and your testing. I get your point re me being in the minority. However I still doubt this a case of being on the bleeding edge of technology and notwithstanding that the files are huge, it has been part of the spec. If Adobe allows 24/96 in various other encoding output options then I feel it should for DVD, and certainly should for BDR. I suspect all BDR players support it.
For the 15 years I've been in this biz, my work has been coprporate - as is the fundraising video I produced for the symphony. Since one rarely (if ever) gets a chance to record symphony orchestras and my 788T allowed it, I logically chose 24/96. I guess I need to research the optional Dolby Digital or MPEG encoding of audio for this kind of programming (never used or needed it since no corporate accounts ever complained about the stereo PCM audio.)
Very interesting re i7+GPU acceleration being faster than Max encoding. Please tell me where you got that info. I assume there's been reliable testing. I know one thing: Max doesn't heat up my CPU and GPU. I currently have an i7 980 hex core with a GTX470. (as I understand it, GTX is fine for Premiere editing; Quadro isn't really needed unless doing heavy graphics in After Effects).
Here's one for you that you may not already know: according to Adobe's own site, you need an approved GPU card with SDI out in order to take full advantage of what it calls "Graphics for Video" output (I think it's supposed to reduce latency issues with output to an external monitor.
Nvidia now has a special plugin to properly allow Mercury Transport passthru.  BMD, for example, is now claiming that their devices allow Mercury Transmit passthru but says nothing re needing an approved card with SDI out and the special plugin to make it work. I understand that even without SDI out, one does get external monitoring without using a Matrox or other third-party i/o box. When I call Matrox or BMD they know nothing. Ditto for the NVidia guy I spoke to.
I've been planning my new budget to include an HP Dreamcolor monitor but that doesn't have SDI in. MOTU said that their device with SDI-in does output RGB via its HDMI or component out. (Dreamcolor requires RGB signal).
I've always used Canopus, Matrox or BMD but now I'd like to get away away from these third-party i/o solutions due to being troublesome with buggy drivers just adding more complexity and complications than they're worth. If Nvidia offers SDI out and, by nature, the output is RGB, and I find a monitor that has SDI but doesn't cost a fortune. (currently using a Sony LMD2030W production monitor), why do I need a third-party i/o solution? (other than if I want 96kHz).
I welcome any further insights you have these third-pary devices becoming obsolete re your comment above re Max encoding not being as fast i7-GPU acceleration. As well as anything I'm positing.
    Thanks again, Jeff!

  • Saving to previous versions from CS5

Checked out the launch this morning and am definitely interested in stepping up to CS5 from CS3. However, I often need to exchange native files with vendors who I'm sure won't upgrade. Is it going to be possible to save or export back to CS3 from CS5 or will I need CS4 as a step in-between??

We won't go to CS5 if Adobe has decided not to do away with this workflow obstacle. The .inx system where a CS5 document has to be saved as an exchange document, which has to be opened in CS4 and saved as an exchange doc, which has to be opened in CS3 and saved as an exchange doc in order to open in CS2 is nuts. No reason to upgrade anyone if it means more of that.

  • Exporting Swf File in Indesign CS5

When exporting a swf file from CS5 how come is doesn't allow the same Flash features as in Flash? For example if you decided to zoom into a swf file in CS5 it doesn't move. However from Flash the published swf file moves when you zoom in. Is there something I am doing wrong or is it just the program that is forcing itself to do that?
If anyone can help that would be nice. Also I'm looking for a way to create a swf toolbar so I may zoom in and out without relying on flash. I am more into CSS and javascript-jquery. If anyone can push me in the right direction that will be good too.
    An example is down below:

As mentioned, not much you can do with indesign only. Check out third party tool eDocker
With eDocker you can add proper user interface to SWF you have exported from InDesign, with draggable zoom + lot´s of other improvements.

  • File exported as ePub from inDesign not opening in Stanza, known bug?

    Hello,
I've just started to learn how to export documents to EPUB format using inDesign CS5 7.0.3 on Mac OSX. I've found that the exported books can be opened in Adobe Digital Editions, but not on Stanza.
The error I am getting in Stanza is:
    Could not load book
Could not find required entry in archive: OEBPS/\Q7%20laws.xthml\E Available entries are: [META-INF/container.xml ...
After a lot of trial and error I came to find out that apparently, the error was generated by the original .indd file name: When the inDesign original filename is "7 laws.indd" Stanza will not open the file.
However, if I remove the spaces from the filename (changing to "7laws.indd") it opens with no problem.
If this case turns to be true for all user of the latest version of inDesign, I believe that the EPUB exporter should:
    a) Convert the spaces in the filename to dashes (or something akin)
    b) At least warn that the file name with spaces can cause trouble on some readers.
I wonder if the inDesign dev team, is aware of this and/or if this issue also affects Windows users.
If so, could it be fixed on an upcoming patch?

  • Exporting EPUB from InDesign CC not including line breaks

I am done with a book and have it formatted the way I want. I am exporting it to EPUB through InDesign CC and previewing it in iBooks and also through Kindle previewer. Everything is fine except for one thing... where I have created page breaks, the exported file is not including them.
I tried exporting to HTML just to see what it did and there is no line breaks there. I know its proprietary markup ( in kindle ) but I still would like to include them in a few specific places ( to mark seperations of chapters ).
In kindle this is the tag they say to use: <mbp:pagebreak />
In iBooks, I have not yet figured out how to create them, I am going to work on that today once I sort out the kindle version.
Is there any way to force it to include line breaks on export. Or alternatively, I could export to HTML but I am having trouble figuring out how to go back to the EPUB format from there and also it didn't include the fonts, so there was other issues to consider as I have a custom font I was using for the headers that looks really good and matches the font on the book cover as well... so I really want to keep that consistent if possible.
Are there any tricks or things I can try here to improve on my workflow and do a better job of seperating the chapters ?

Ok, I hadn't tested the advanced options out in the export menu. It works and does so on both the iBooks and Kindle previewer.. which is good news since that is really important to me to try and find a workflow I can update both of these formats from when I continue to work on my book.
The only strange part is that on some chapters its adding an extra blank page between the chapter and the next. What is odd is that it only happens on some of them (in the iBook reader only, the kindle previewer isn't doing this)
I am going to look into this more closely but its not a major deal as I would prefer a little seperation in the chapters anyways, its not really a bad thing. It is just hard to figure out why its doing this.

  • Can't export an EPS file from Photoshop CS5 and open in Illustrator CS5.

    I'm on Mac OS X Lion 10.7.5
I am making DVD covers for print. The barcodes for the DVD covers have to be done in Illustrator. But the original designs are done in photoshop including the text. For years this hasn't been a problem. Right before adding the barcodes I create an EPS file from photoshop, open that file in Illustrator and all my text is automatically coverted to perfect crisp clean vectors, viola! I add the barcodes and export the PDF for the printers.
But now I can't open my EPS files in Illustrator CS5 even though I'm exporting them the same way I always have from Photoshop CS5. Illustrator says... "The operation cannot complete because of an unknown error." --> Note it does not give an error number after this warning like I see it does for so many other people.
I have been trying to fix this for over 10 HOURS spanning 2 days! I'm infuriated I can't get help from Adobe on this and have read all the forums and don't see my problem listed anywhere.
    I've tried:
    - Deleting the .plist file and the Settings folder & resetting my permissions
    - Uninstalling and Reinstalling Illustrator
    - Turning off all other applications
    - Creating more disk space on my hard drive (even though I have 200gb available)
    - Restarting the computer
    - Disabling my Font book and still I can't open the EPS file
I thought maybe it's possible it's the font I'm using Fontesque OT so I even tried converting text to objects prior to exporting the EPS file from photoshop to illustrator and turning off my font book, but still it won't open. And if I open the PSD directly in Illustrator, text comes out a bit fuzzy in the PDF I export.
If anyone can provide any solutions I would be so grateful! I'm at my wits end here, this should have taken under an hour to do and now it's ruining my entire weekend. I'm completely panicked because I was suppose to have these to my client over the weekend so they could turn them in for Print frist thing on Monday morning and of course Adobe provides no chat support or phone support after 7pm on weekday or on the weekend which is when this all started.

I never even thought of reinstalling photoshop, but I think this was a font issue. I'd never saved an EPS with Fontesque OT Regular enabled, only Fontesque OT Bold. Somehow I think the font was causing the problem because ridding the font from the equation allowed me to open the EPS file.
After 12 HOURS of trying different things I found a WORK AROUND...
    I had to:
    - Select the Text in Photoshop (with Fontesque OT enabled)  --> Select Create Work Path --> Covert to Shape on each of the text items
    - Save EPS file out of Photoshop
    - Disable Fontesque OT font in Font Book
    - Then open EPS in Illustrator add in my Barcodes and export the PDF
(the barcodes have to be added in Illustrator because they need to be pure 100% black with no CMYK color in them. You can't save them out of Photoshop that way, only Illustrator, otherwise I would have made my pdf straight out of photoshop like any other normal human
This work around is the only way I could get the EPS files to open in Illustrator and still have the text remain super crisp like a vector.
NOTE to others in the future about crisp text from Photoshop to Illustrator:
    - Simply "converting to shape" did not preserve the vector. You have to Select Create Work Path --> then Covert to Shape on each of the text items (with the font enabled) for this to work and preserve the crispness of the text. Even creating "smart object" did not truly preserve my vectors or the text crispness in the EPS file once I imported it into Illustrator.
DrStrik9 thank you SO MUCH for trying to help me. You did give me ideas that helped me figure out the workaround and also helped me feel not so alone as I struggled through this. I'm going to follow up with your other suggestions about reinstalling photoshop and also checking my RAM, etc. But I just want to that you so so so SOOOO much for all your time and consideration in this matter. I hope you have a wonderful amazing week ahead and that someone does something very nice and thoughtful for you too

  • Is it possible to export an epub from AI-CS6?

I'm creating a  children's picture book in ai6. It's fairly simple & text is on it's own layer. I'd love to skip the need to go to InDesign. Can this be done? Many thanks for answers.

Skill Rooster, I create simple picture books in AI with text on it's own layer and Artboards for pages. My request makes perfect sense. If I found a way to export from AI - as I have all the content completed there - I could save much time by skipping a trip to ID, redoing what I have already spent much time doing. It's great to export my book straight from AI as a pdf, it would be REALLY great if I could export it as an ePub too. I'm not sure what about my request "makes no sense." I hope I've cleared things up for you.

  • I'm finding it difficult creating exporting EPUB from pages. Help please!

    Hello,
I'm finding it quite complicating on how to create and export EPUB files from pages so I can use these to send to iBooks on the iBook store.
Can someone please tell me in the simplest term, how to create and export an EPUB file in pages please???
    Thank you!

That's fine. If I wrote my book on pages on iPad, could I send via email as pages doc to my mac then open in pages on my mac and then export to EPUB from my mac?
I like writing on the move.

  • How I can export files from CS5.5 to send for further editing in CS6 and no lose quality?

how I can export files from CS5.5 to send for further editing in CS6 and no lose quality?

If all you need for further editing is the contents of your Timeline,
then you should follow Harm's sage advice.
    Lagarith Lossless Video Codec
    http://lags.leetcode.net/codec.html
    Ut Video Codec Suite
    http://www.videohelp.com/tools/Ut-Video-Codec-Suite
But, if you will need all of your source media files to continue the edit,
you should consider using the Project Manager.
    Trim or copy your project
By using the Project Manager, you will be continuing the edit
with the original media files and there will be no quality loss.
Be aware that once you have edited the project in CS6,
it will be problematic (but not impossible) to return to edit in CS5.5.

  • Adding Audio and Video Content to EPUB from InDesign CS5.5 | CS5.5 Design Premium Feature Tour | Adobe TV

In this episode, Colin Fleming shows how simple it is to embed audio and video content in InDesign CS5.5 for export to EPUB.
    http://adobe.ly/xT0jKh

I have placed audio and video into InDesign. I did it just exactly the way this video told me. Everything works well in the preview panel. However, when I exported it to EPUB, the file of the EPUB is so small (I guess, it should have been larger because I had added video and audio file into it). Plus, When I open it in EPUB reader (ibook) and Adobe Digital Edition, It shows nothing.
What I want to do is to create an EPUB which contains image, and sound. I want to make the image as a button which plays sound when I click it. I did it by setting he button to play when clicked, but again, it is not showing at all when published to EPUB.
I hope that there will be a good solution to this matter.
    Thank You.

  • Exporting an ePub from pages on a retina MacBook Pro the size is 10x that of the same export on a MacBook Air. Why?

I am exporting an ePub from a 57.6 MB pages file on my retina MacBook pro and the exported epub is 982.9 MB in size. Exporting the exact same file from Pages on my MacBook Air give me a 97.8 MB ePub file.
Both machines run OSX 10.8.4 and Pages 4.3. And the Pages file resides in my Dropbox.
    What is going on here?

  • Cannot open file exported from CS5 as .idml into CC2014.

I'm trying to open a file created in InDesign CS5 in the newest CC version of InDesign.
It is a large (2GB) file comprised entirely of placed images.
I found a thread that suggested exporting as idml.
I did export from CS5 as idml which made the file size a mere 195 MB.
When I tried to open it in CC2014 I got the error message:
Cannot open the file "name.indd"  Adobe InDesign may not support the file format, a plug-in
that supports the file format may be missing, or the file may be open in another application.
I had quit from CS5 before attempting to open the file in CC2014.
I had thought that exporting as .idml would change the file type suffix from
.indd to .idml but I'm not in the weeds enough to be sure about that.
    Any thoughts?
    Thanks in advance.
    Roger

I had thought it might be.
I preserved my original (created in CS5) and saved a copy
to try it in CC 2014. The copy wouldn't open in CC.
I deleted this copy and tried again with a new copy
Tried to open in CC - no go.
Opened the new copy in CS5 - no problem.
If the file were corrupt, would it still open in CS5, or is this
    a forward compatibility issue?

  • Choosing the optimum graphics resolution when exporting to epub from ID5

I'm creating a ebook for the iPhone that includes a bunch of images. I'd like some help choosing the correct resolution for those images when they're exported to an epub file.
These images were imported into an ID5 document as EPS files. They are 100% vector-based BW (2 bit) line art.
The Export to ePub dialog box gives me the option of choosing Low, Medium, High and Maximum resolution for bitmpas of the images that ID5 will create during the export process.
Smaller is better from the standpoint of file size and display performance, but I want the images to look sharp.
Which of these options is probably the best for the iPhone?
