Exporting DV PAL Quicktime 1024 x 576

Hi there -
I'm looking for advice about a HD project I'm working on.
It's being shot PAL on a Sony Z1. Here are the final specs the client has asked for:
An uncompressed quicktime, 1024x576 DV PAL WIDESCREEN Square Pixels
I'm not sure what capture preset I should use for this purpose. Should I downconvert to DV from the start or would there be a benefit to working in HD? Is 1024x576 a size I can capture at?
Final question! For uncompressed, do I set codec to 'None' or use one of the 'Uncompressed' options?
many thanks,
Lisa

Hi
An "uncompressed quicktime, 1024x576 DV PAL WIDESCREEN Square Pixels !!!!"
DV PAL is not square pixels !
DV PAL is not uncompressed !
Your client doesn't know what he is talking about. Widescreen DV are always anamorphic.
Just use Compressor to convert your HD timeline to DV PAL ANAMORPHIC 48 KHZ. Path in compressor settings : Other worflows= Advanced format conversions = Standard definitions = DV PAL ANAMORPHIC.
Uncompressed quicktime is also anamorphic and not 1024x576 Square Pixels. You can also use Compressor to export SD 10 bit uncompressed Pal or SD 8 bit uncompressed Pal. Same path in compressor.

  • Exporting an avi out of premiere cs4 from a tiff sequence (1024 x 576)

Hi i would be so greatful if someone could inform me of the correct setting becouse at the moment the avi i export seems to not be wide enough.
I have a tiff sequence renderd out from after effects at 1024 x 576 and set to square pixels. i am required to then take this into premiere and render out as a microsoft avi with the compression set to none. i also need to add a sound file to this the movie.
i begin by setting up a new sequence and as i cant seem to set the size to 1024x576 i have selected the preset widescreen 48khz (not 100% if this is right) i then bring both my tiff sequence(1024x576) and my music on to the time line, i the click export and media :  Here is the settings on the screen and as you can see in the preview widow the size seems to look about right. However once the movie has been exported it does not appear as wide as this.
i would be so greatfull if you can tell if i am doing anything wrong.
    Thankyou,
    Ryan

Why do you need the AVI file, and does it have to be DV AVI? The problem will be that DV AVI is going to Export to less than what you have in both your Project/Sequence and your Assets. [Edit] Must have been dreaming, as you never mentioned "DV. You should be able to Export out as MS AVI [Uncompressed]
Depending on exactly how you will use this file, might provide some other alternative. There are several other good CODEC's, that might get what you have into what you want.
Please define the use for the Exported file? Answers will flow in.
    Good luck,
    Hunt

  • Fcp preset: pal 1024 x 576 anamorphic

    Dear Great Experts.
Is there a preset in fcp for widescreen 16.9 anamorphic for pal? Or what elements would one incorporate for such a preset.
    Broadcasting over the internet.
    Greater details if needed:
I don't know much, but will tell you what i do know, and probably alot will be unnecessary to tell, but I would need to be more of an expert in this area to edit what I will be writing here...lol, thanks so much:
We make animations, or slide shows movies in After Effects in a 1024 x 576, Preset: Pal D1/DV Wide Screen Square Pixel, Pixel Aspect Ration: Square format.
Then render with output module settings in After Effect using: 'stretch' to 720 x 576, locked to 5.4 aspect, Pal D1/DV, which squishes the final movie horizontally, as you can see. This is to get, as I understand it, the anamorphic element needed (for the method in which it is broadcast, ie, thru Airbox and Octoshape).
Then it is compressed with Compressor: This setting unsquishes it horizontally putting it back into a 16.9 ration, but in a smaller size, 720 x 405, and makes it into a special type of mpeg 2 format which is called a 'program stream' for broadcasting over 'Airbox' which the viewer also has a choice of using 'octoshape' for viewing. This puts the video and audio together as 1 element.
Would like to bypass After Effects and just do movie in FCP with an output that will accomplish the above (see summary below too). I assume that the compression with Compressor will still be necessary to get the specialized mpeg 2 format need for the 'airbox' broadcasting.
Summary: Would like to produce a fcp output that allows for the 1024 x 576 size, pal widescreen, anamorphic and then can be compressed to the special mpeg 2 program stream which ends up with the 720 x 405 (16.9). Know how to make preset, just need to know what elements to incorporate for the preset.
Side Note: We are told we need to start out with the larger size of 1024 x 576 for better quality. Our video dept would prefer that we start out with HD size of 1920 x 1080 but our equipment cant process files that large, so video dept said ok to do the 1024 size.
Ok, Wow, if you are still with me, I thank you a million times over and wonder what you think?
Lots and lots of thanks dear ones,
    With most sincere thanks,
    Hope

    Dear Nick,
Thank you for this timely response and explanation. Appreciate you taking the time to answer this.
    Am using fcp 6.0.6
Are there certain settings that I could make/change to structure a custom preset to accomplish this?
    Thanks again...
    Hope

  • Export slideshow with quicktime

I want to export my slideshow as a movie. The problem is that I want to chance my resolution to 720X576 (I live in the PAL world). But the export dialog box only gives 3 choices. Strange, since quicktime can handle HD.
    Any thoughts?

    Hi Polleke,
The only way you can export with those dimensions is selecting an album, go to share/export, choose the Quicktime tab, input your PAL dimensions and set your other options.
The caveat to this method is you can only have the current chosen song for the audio, there is no Ken burns and I think the transition is a dissolve.
I think if you go the iMovie way you can have everything just like iPhoto but will be able to export to Quicktime with PAL format.

  • Your slideshow cannot be exported as a QuickTime movie.

    Hi,
I have created an Keynote presentation and had exported it many times, over and over, since I need it to be exported. Today, I did it three times, and when I went to change the preference for exporting...
    I was using Custom > H.264 @ 60frames @ Key all frames @ Multipass.
    I wanted to change to > DV-PAL > @ 30frames @ Quality Best @ Scan progressive @ 4:3.
When I tried to export, 1/3 down the export I got the Error -50.
    Quote:
Your slideshow cannot be exported as a QuickTime movie.
There’s not enough disk space, or there was a problem with the file. Error -50.
I have enough disk space but what can be wrong with the file?
I have unchecked exit after last slide.
I need answer fast. I cant rebuild the whole presentation.

    Hi Gary,
    Thanks for the reply.
I used the default "Full Quality, Large" settings, and the Keynote I'm working on is based on Keynotopia's iPhone-mockup/wireframe slides, so they are 640x960 in size. Here is the export screen:
This is on Mac OS X Mountain Lion with the latest version of Keynote from the App Store.

  • DV PAL Quicktimes compression problem

I am putting out DV PAL QuickTime’s, but noticing in QT pro you can tick a button in properties that makes the compression better and the pic looks less compressed. I want to know is there a way to export them out of Final Cut so that this setting is already ticked and we are getting the highest quality straight out of final cut rather then having to recompress and save it out of QT pro. Has anyone come across this problem before is this a final cut problem or is this just a monitoring problem in other programmes. There is a big difference in quality when you tick the button in QT pro.

    Jen:
As Trevor saud, export your movie as Quicktime Movie with default settings and you'll get a full quality copy of your timeline, that can use as source for any further encoding, ie. MPEG2 to use in DVDSP.
There is a big difference in quality when you tick the button in QT pro.
I think you refer to the check button named High Quality you can access when opening the movie in QT > Window > Show Movie Properties > Video Track.
When you check that option you get a better playback quality, right?
If you mean that setting, it's only a playback setting, all your quality is inside of your QT movie, you are not recompressing it. The low quality playback default come from the time when computers had not enough power to playback the DV stream at full quality.

  • 1024 x 576

I have to set up a DVD for PAL to be played on Plasma... Could anyone tell me if 1024 x 576 is the right pixel size for this?

That is the correct "square pixels" size. If you give a movie of that size to iDVD to make a PAL DVD, or to Compressor for compression as PAL, it will convert well to 720x576 anamorphic as posted above. Remember 25fps too.

  • Exporting Anamorphic PAL footage to After Effects.

    Hi,
I am exporting my PAL footage to After Effects as DV-PAL Anamorphic. I have tried various compostion settings on After Effects including DV Widescreen but it still imports back into FCP at a different aspect ratio.
Does anyone know what settings I should use?
    Thanks in advance,
    Simon.

    Hi,
Ok I just took a piece of footage out of FCP into AFX comp settings PAL DV/D1 Widescreen 720x576 Aspect ratio 1.42.
I out put from AFX using DV Settings for the render settings and Quicktime DV PAL 48KHz for the output module.
I brought the AFX clip back into FCP on top of the original and did a 50% vertical crop on the clip in the Upper channel they match perfectly!
Not sure if I've done anything different to you but it works for me . . I suppose there is a possibility if you are using any 3rd party filters on the footage it might munge it in someway, if so using the method I used to check conformity you might be able to nudge the clip back to perfect aspect ratio.

  • Premiere Elements 7: share/export DV-PAL in FLV/QT/WMV, black bars on top/bottom

During export (step "share", export for "PC" - sorry, if I use some wrong terms, got a german interface) of only DV-PAL video to FLV/QT/WMV there are always black bars on top/bottom of the video and the picture is wrong in aspect ratio. I can't help.
I tried different resolutions (original 720x576, 502x402, 320x240) and, as only possible with QT/WMV, different pixel aspect ratios (PARs), even user-defined PARs and 'wrong' aspect ratios (like 512x402). No chance. (I think precise user-defined data like "1,094" is not possible, because results did not change anyhow and this value is shown as "1".) With e.g. QT, 640x512, PAR 1,067 there are black bars with 6 px each.
My project settings must be correct I think: DV-PAL, 720x576, 4:3, 25 fps.
DV-PAL- and MPEG-Export/Share is no problem.
As a workaround I export DV-PAL and convert with XMediaRecode to FLV. But I want direct and clean export with PrEl. That's what I bought it for recently.
I wonder why there are only NTSC-setting suggested in FLV-share. I have to change the size by myself.
And I wonder why Wikipedia says PAR for DV-PAL is "1,0940" and Premiere says "1,067".
I'm new to Premiere Elements 7 (although I got some experience with Premiere 5/6.5, FinalCut, Cinelerra ...) using Windows XP.

I posted two videos on muvipix.com:
WMV cable modem settings PrEl (without audio, fps like original)
Strange: in VLC media player there are bars on the left and right (and slight faded bars on top/bottom - hope you can see) and in muvipix.com and Media Player Classic there are bars at top/bottom
    http://muvipix.com/cpg/displayimage.php?album=lastup&cat=17219&pos=0
    http://muvipix.com/cpg/albums/userpics/17219/Unbenannt.wmv
FLV (no resize, without audio, fps like original)
black bars on top/bottom, but only slight in Media Player Classic
    http://muvipix.com/cpg/displayimage.php?album=lastup&cat=17219&pos=1
    http://muvipix.com/cpg/albums/userpics/17219/Unbenannt.flv
I had to deactivate sound because this is Creative Commons stuff and I don't want to give credits. And I changed fps to "like original" because 30 fps as standard in PrEl is wrong. It's PAL here.
    Thanks for your efforts.

  • Audio not working properly on exporting keynote to Quicktime

    Hello everybody,
I've created a Keynote presentation, with voiceover. It runs perfectly when launched in keynote, standalone, but as I try to export it to quicktime, the audio from an embedded video clip (just one out of 3 clips embedded in the whole presentation) stops after a few words (while the other work perfectly).
I'm going nuts! I tried saving the file afresh under different name, redoing the voiceover, tossing and reinserting that clip that stops, and save again, no luck!
    Anyone experiencing the same issue?
    thanks,

Hello, I have the same problem, my Quicktime movie has some of the audio files but not others. This is for a professional job so the delay while I try various settings is not helping my cause. I thought Quicktime was a well-proven solution!

  • Issue : How to get better definition of fonts/typography in Keynote when exporting to HD Quicktime ?

    Hello,
I understand there are no possibilities to "add" a vector button to future keynote allowing crisper and smoother fonts. However, when writing texts with effects in a Keynote presentation, and exporting it to Quicktime , whatever the resolutions chosen and clors and settings, still, effects are smooths, but  fonts/typography/texts are not clean, crisp and when using a big display in full screen , the .mov or .mpeg4 outcome still always displays poor resolution for text.
Anyone could suggest something ? I want to be able to choose my texts effects on Keynote, while securing an outstanding fonts/texts resolution and apperance when in HD movie, quicktime or else.
Thanks a million for any suggestions guys !
    Isa

I have several video clips from iStockPhoto. I don't know what camera's/settings were used, but know that they are all 640x360 px and vary between 25 fps and 30 fps. I also have 3 still images that I have insterted that I formatted to be 640x360 to keep everything the same size. Everything appears correct when viewing the project as I've built it. I'm attaching a few screen shots of the most recent settings for export, though these are not the only that I have tried. Everything comes out with the same result.
I can't insert screen shots of my settings for some reason (?) but here is some info on my most recent try. I chose to export as a Microsoft DV AVI. Then in the Video options I'm using the DV NTSC codec. For size, I chose the D1/NTSC Widescreen 16:9 (1.2) option.
As for other times I've tried this, there are only 2 other codecs to choose from when saving as a DV AVI. I've tried both of them too. Everything has had the same result. I've tried a Quicktime file as well.
Does anyone have a suggestion as to the best file/codec/setting combination?
    Thanks,
    Holli

  • Movie in Keynote doesn't export properly for QuickTime

Hello all. I really hope someone can help with this. I've used the discussions before with great success so THANK YOU all for sharing your expertise.
I've got a keynote presentation that for the most part exports perfectly on QuickTime. The only part that doesn't export right are the 2 videos I've got on the presentation. I set the timing with the inspectors for it to start automatically and even added a song to play along with the presentation. But when I export it, there is about an extra minute and 15 seconds added to the whole video and I've got the presentation timed perfectly with keynote and the song. I've got iWork '09 and QT 10.0. Not pro just player.
I've played with the custom settings to no avail. Any way to get the videos to export exactly to their lengths?
    Cheers

I don't know if this is the answer you're looking for but I'll share my experience. Like you, I have three videos in my presentation. Once I exported it as a QT movie, the delays that I built in with the Inspector to allow the movie to play before the next slide transition, played AFTER the video ran. I went back and just put in a 1.5 second delay in and the videos run fine. I'm guessing that QT sees the video and allows it to play and THEN looks at the Delay setting.
Now if someone can just tell me how to get the audio soundtrack to shut down during my three videos but play during the rest of the presentation...

  • Exported slideshow to Quicktime, music now out of sync

Hello: I created a slideshow in iPhoto with music and transitions in sync, then exported it to Quicktime. When I play it in Quicktime, the music track is slightly out of sync with the slides. Can anyone give me any suggestions? Thanks!
    Powerbook G4   Mac OS X (10.4.7)

    slhmca:
Welcome to the Apple Discussions. I think that problem was fixed with 10.4.8 and the newest Quicktime version. Download and use the 10.4.8 COMBO updater as opposed the the Software Update method. I'd do the same with the Quicktime version. QT 7.1.3 is required if you need to access videos from the iTMS. Otherwise QuickTime 7.1.2 for Mac will suffice. It depends on your iTunes situation.
    Do you Twango?
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.

  • What is the best export setting from QuickTime Pro 7 for standard DVD

I have several AVI movies I took and want to import them into iMovie, so I can create a DVD that will play in any DVD player or computer. (Along with a bunch of pictures.)
Should I convert them with QuickTime Pro 7 (QTP7) to another format, and if so, what is the best export setting.
I have export them using *_QuickTime 10_* and QTP7 to *MOV, MP4, & M4V* and the output is *+bad bad bad+*.
I have tried both export and save-as. Neither has done a good job.
The internal information of the AVI movies are: (as reported by QT)
Format: Apple OpenDML JPEG, 640 x 480, Millions, 8-bit Unsigned Integer, Mono, 11.024 kHz
I have used several settings with not much luck including:
    AAC, Stereo (L R), 44.100 kHz, MPEG-4 (Perian), 640 x 480, Millions
    MPEG-4 Video, H.264
Should I be using a better application then QuickTime?
Is there a way to just use iDVD with the original AVI movies?
These are wedding movies and pictures that people are waiting for.

Should I convert them with QuickTime Pro 7 (QTP7) to another format, and if so, what is the best export setting.
That depends on your specific work flow and the codec(s) involved. Generally speaking, if the file plays in the QT Player and is "conversion" compatible, then the file can be added directly to iDVD (i.e., unlike iMovie '08/'09/'11 which requires the file to be "edit" compatible with QT).
I have export them using QuickTime 10 and QTP7 to MOV, MP4, & M4V and the output is bad bad bad.
The quality of your output file will depend on a number of things: primarily the quality of your source file, the efficiency of the target codec, and the specific settings used. (About which you did not elaborate.) The rule of thumb here is that your output will never be better than your input and each re-comprssion of the data has the potential to degrade the quality to some degree.
I have tried both export and save-as. Neither has done a good job.
The "Export" option re-compresses the data while the "Save As..." option only places the original data in an MOV file container. So if this output is "bad, bad, bad," then I suspect your source file(s) are not of high quality to begin with. (This seems to be confirmed by the very low audio sampling rate which implies the video data rate was probably also low to conserve file storage space.)
The internal information of the AVI movies are: (as reported by QT)... Format: Apple OpenDML JPEG, 640 x 480, Millions, 8-bit Unsigned Integer, Mono, 11.024 kHz
The basic codecs here appear to be both playback and conversion compatitible with QT (other than the very low sampling rate which some QT apps may not like). Thus, if your work flow is to simply burn DVDs that can be played on commercial players, the AVI could most likely be dropped to iDVD for authoring. On the other hand, if you are editing in a recent version of iMovie, then that app may not like the AVI file container. In this case, the best quality you can likely expect would be to use the "Save As..." option to place the data in an MOV file container and import to iMovie.
Unfortunately, editing in iMovie '08/'09/'11 is done "by reference" which means your output file will be created by exporting the impoted source data to another compression format. The default would be H.264/AAC which is a highly compressed format which in turn would be re-compressed again by iDVD to multiplexed MPEG2/PCM content further reducing quality by using a less efficient video codec. My recommendation for export from iMovie in this case would be AIC/Linear PCM. (I.e., to export your edits to the Apple intermediat video codec using the original file size and frame rate with just a bit of "sharpening" and using 16-bit/48 kHz Linear PCM audio (which is what will be used to create the DVD).
Should I be using a better application then QuickTime?
How much are you willing to spend?
Is there a way to just use iDVD with the original AVI movies?
Yes. Simply create a new SD project, select your theme, drop the compatible AVI content to the appropriate "drop" area(s), add photos as desired, preview the results, and author the DVD if/when satisfied.

  • Exporting Keynotes into Quicktime

I teach K-6 graders and I like to begin each lesson with a recorded lesson they watch on the computer in front of them and then we practice what I taught them in the presentation.  I was using Keynote, but it had problems with embedded videos at times.  I like to add embedded videos while I explain and show them what they are expected to do.  The audio would play but often the video would not.
So I began recording the presentations and exporting them to Quicktime.  I didn't have a problem until this week.  Most worked fine, but two do not have the controls in the video.  By that I mean, when you mouse over the presentation, I would like students to be able to pause, rewind, rewatch, etc. as they need to but the controls are not showing up on the mouse over.
This is only happening on these two videos.  The rest work perfectly and I have tried multiple times.  I cannot find anything that is set differently.  The only difference is that these are made for 5th and 6th graders and are slightly longer than the other videos.
Has anyone experience with this?  Older discussions point to using paths that my version of Quicktime simply doesn't have and I am at a loss.
    Thanks

    Hi Patrick,
Thanks for the info. But I can not get any setting to come out looking widescreen. All settings come out square looking. I have tried every setting I can think of but all the QuickTime exported movies come looking like (i.e.: 800X854) more box than widescreen. I think it must be some setting I do not know about or some combination or possibly the capture setting (easy setup).
    Thanks for your help.
