Exporting editable text PDF

I've seen this question posed but never saw a fit answer. I'm designing a document (price tags) for a client that needs to be client editable. For the full story, see below.
I've done the layout for the price tags in InDesign CS3 and am wanting to export a PDF that has pre-formatted text that can be edited by the client. I want the client to be able to enter in new information while maintaining the original design so as to be able to print endless new price tags on demand (and without my further involvement). I've tested several exports in Acrobat Pro and while I can highlight and copy the text, I cannot edit. I'm using the Acrobat presets export menu (press quality) in ID and have been unable to figure out how to set editable text.
I'm REALLY wanting to avoid using Word for this.

The controls for type size/style/color are unintuitive (IMO) in acrobat forms, but they are in there.
Open the PDF in Acrobat Professional (my example uses 7, so newer may be slightly different).
Select
Tools > Advanced Editing > Text Field Tool and draw a field on the PDF page. This SHOULD open the Text Field Properties dialog.
Under Appearance tab you can set the following:
(text field) Border, (text field) Fill, Font, Font Size, color.
Under Options tab, you can set horizontal alignment, character limit, single or multi-line, scrolling, rich text formats, etc.
Under format you can set what kind of data is in the field, such as numbers only, percentage, etc.
Under Calculate you can set whether the field is calculated using the values of other fields, etc.
So, you can set up one field and duplicate is as needed.

  • Exporting Editable text from Freehand into Photoshop?

Anybody out there know how to do this?  I use Freehand MX and would like to bring my text "live" into Photoshop to edit there if need be.  I use Photoshop CS2.

    Use 'Copy Special' and Paste.
    1. Insert FreeHand text tool in text block and drag to highlight the text.
    2. Edit>Special>Copy Special>Unformatted Text.
    3. In Photoshop, with text tool, drag to draw a new text box.
    4. Paste. Text will take on currently active Photoshop attributes of font, size, color, etc.
I don't know of a way to get editable formatted text from FH to Photoshop. However, if you have Illustrator CS4, open the FH file there. Highlight the text and copy. In Photoshop, paste into a new text box. Font, color, and perhaps some other formatting will be preserved. I haven't used text with tabs, kerning or other text formatting attributes.

  • Editing text in a Podcast

    Hi all,
I signed up to a podcast in another language than english, which uses accents and the accents in the Podcast text are not translated, in fact they create a "text mess".
In summary, I'd like to know if there is any way to edit the text in Podcasts, much like what we can do with the musics (add and edit the lyrics). Thanks!

  • How do I leave editable text and images in a PDF?

I recently bought a flyer template and it came as an editable PDF.  Here is one of the templates http://www.wendygarratt.com/images/flyer.pdf
Every field, both text and graphic object, is fully editable in the free Adobe reader.  I have Acrobat X and have tried all the methods of producing something like this but nothing has worked.  I wish to produce not just one page template PDFs that can be edited like the one above, but I also have a 20+ page magazine, which currently is distributed in PDF form and I wanted certain image and text fields within the magazine to be customisable too.
I design the magazine using InDesign and the exported pages are composed of 1 large background image with text fields laid over the top.  I have tried exporting it as an interactive PDF, ticking the layers option for Acrobat, but when I try to create an editable form (Tools>Forms>Create>Open file) it does not recognise any of the text fields at all.
Can someone please help me before I slam my head repeatedly in a door?  I have been searching for a solution for so long and I'm getting rather frustrated.
    Thank you in advance
    Wendy-G

Thanks for the replies I've had so far, but I really need some detailed help to sort this.
I want to be able to create a PDF that has editable text and editable graphics over a background image, that can be edited in the free Adobe Reader, as per this item - http://www.wendygarratt.com/images/flyer.pdf
I know this was designed in LiveCycle and I have LiveCycle and Adobe Acrobat Pro X, but LiveCycle is new to me.  I am a quick learner (I use Photoshop, InDesign, etc) and need help in getting started.
I am willing to work with someone to help get this sorted but it is urgent that I get to grips with this.
    Thanks so much for helping

  • I cannot edit text in a PDF created from scanning

I am using Adobe XI, and I have created a PDF by scanning a document.
When I do click on a paragraph to edit text, all the page appears selected, it seems to be an image. At that moment a message pops up saying: this page has not editable text or digitalized content. The editing tools are disabled, so I cannot edit text.
If I do export a page to Excel or Word, I can edit text there, although there are some kind of data that is not converted properly (even when I have executed OCR).
I have edited preferences, but I am not sure if I did it correctly.
    Thanks

I am using Acrobat XI Pro on PC.
Of course, I have done all the steps you mention,  but I wanted someone to confirm me if these setting values are correct in order to obtain the best results. I repeat the paragraph of my previous discussion that I want to clarify, just in case some of you can help me, mainly about optimization
I digitalized the document from the scanner. This scanner is installed in the net, so I personalized the settings in Acrobat and I chose memory mode instead of native mode.
    Mode color: black on white
    Resolution: 600 ppp
As you say in your mail, I understand I should choose ClearScan OCR not searchable just at this moment.
Well, and what about the options of optimization?, JBIG2 (without lost)?, 4 CCITT?
And filters?, I have: activated, low, activated, medium
Are these values congruous or compatible?
    Thank you

  • Problems editing text in pdf file

I have a user that is using Adobe Acrobat 8 Standard and is wanting to edit a pdf form that someone sent him.  When we open it and I use the Touchup Text Tool to try and delete some of the text it throws off the entire layout of the document.  Is this because this document wasn't originally set up as a pdf? I don't understand why my edits throw everything off.  For example when I highlight the white text in the reddish colored header and start typing new text, the new text appears down below the header next to the "For daily and terminal cleaning" text.  I tried resaving the file and even tried exporting it to Word etc, and then reopening in Adobe Acrobat 8 Standard but none of that helped.  Am I completely missing something easy in this program?  I thought this would be a simple task.
    Thanks for any help.

    Hi Bill,
I have used the Text Touchup Tool to jump around through the document.  The document is broken up into sections that are editable, but any editing of the very top part throws everything way off.  I don't know anything about Designer.  Do you think it's possible this document was created in something like Word and was scanned in as a pdf and that is why I am having a hard time editing it?
    Thanks, malaize

  • InDesign CC: Text in editable text fields disappearing after exporting

    Hi,
I'm having an issue of text disappearing from editable text fields after exporting the document as an interactive pdf. I've created the text that needs to be editable in acrobat with InDesign CC. So for example, I want to have an editable text field that already says "I'm Mary." I want users to have an ability to change "Mary" to "Tom" or "Ben" in Acrobat. So the pdf should have an editable text form saying "I'm Mary" sentence when users open the pdf in Acrobat. However, after exporting, the text fields remains but the text itself "I'm Mary." is gone. I don't understand why this happens because the text is there when previewed in SWF preview window in InDesign.
The below is the list of steps I took.
STEP 1: Create some texts (For example, m with the text frame tool in InDesign CC
STEP 2: Right click the frame, and click on "Interactive > Convert to Text Field"
    OR
STEP 2: Select the text frame, open "Buttons and Forms" window and change the type as "Text Field"
STEP 3:  Export the document as an interactive pdf. The setting is default.
Result: When I open the pdf in Acrobat, the text field is there, but it is blank.
Please help me to resolve this issue. I know this is possible because a person before me at my job did it.
    Thank you!

As far as I know, to have a pre-populated text form [I'm Mary] appear in the text field, you will need to set the Default Value of the text field in Acrobat. You can do that by selecting the property of the field > Options > Default Value

  • Editing text in a pdf in Acrobat pro

The text lines are broken when I try to move and difficult to reallign.
Also my loopy cursive font keeps getting snipped by the boxes .  Looks bad!

Some guidance when it comes to PDF editing:
    http://acrobatusers.com/startingpoints/how-to-edit-a-pdf
Bottom line - PDF (the file format / technology that is described and defined by the ISO Standard, ISO 32000-1) does not support word processor like "editing".
Minor textual content *touchups* are possible. Acrobat facilitates making these Minor Touchups.
To "edit" one must return to the authoring file, edit there and then output the new PDF. When you don't have the authoring file you can export the textual content to Word.
After cleanup you'd do 'edits' and then output that "fresh" PDF.
    Be well...

  • How can I edit text in pdf?

newbie here to editing text in a pdf. I make a document in InDesign and exported it into a pdf. I tried to change the text in the pdf, using the touch up tool but it won't let me change it. What am I doing wrong?

That depends on what type of edits you want to do.
You can use the touchup text tool to make some changes to text (this assumes that the person on the other end has the exact same fonts installed). The touchup object tool can be used to remove images...Have them look under the "tools" menu to see what is available. Different ones are there depending on their version of Acrobat.
Why are you having them make edits (just asking to see if there is a better way of doing this because really, you don't want to go down this road)?
Do they really need to make edits or are they just marking up changes they want done in the document so you can do them? If that's the case, have them use the comment tools.
There are way too many things to go wrong when you start editing PDF's. They really should be considered simply a digital piece of paper and nothing more.

  • Can you edit a pdf document without exporting it into a word document?

Can you edit a pdf document without exporting it into a word document?

    Hi sylvias99766822,
You can if you have Acrobat. If you don't, feel free to give it a try. You can download a 30-day trial from http://www.adobe.com/products/acrobat.html.
Keep in mind, though, that Acrobat isn't intended to be a word processor. So, while you can make adjustments to text and graphics, if you need to do a major overhaul of the text in the document, it's best to go back to the source document and edit the content there.

  • Fireworks -- PDF for print, keeping editable text?

I'm trying to print flyers (to PDF) that i've designed in
Fireworks. I'm happy with the images, colors, etc., however, the
text also exports as an image. I'd like to be able to export the
text as text so that when a viewer zooms in on the pdf, the text
does not become grainy. Also, the physical printing of the text
would look much more clear. I'm sure there are proper terms that
i'm not using, but i hope that someone more experienced than me is
reading! Just trying to keep the text "editable" when printing to
PDF from Fireworks. Any input would be appreciated. THanks! (BTW,
going through Photoshop won't work because it changes the text
    layout too much.)
    thanks again,

In addition to Linda's comments, you can save your Fireworks
    .png as an
Illustrator 7 .ai file. Then import that to Freehand or
    Illustrator (if
you have them). Most of your design will remain intact and
    you might not
    have to start from scratch.
I just did that on my pc but, unfortunately, the text is what
    imported
    the worst.

  • How to export all images that don't contain editable text

    Hi guys,
Is there any hack, script or general function to export all images from a PDF withouth them containing editable text?
For instance, i have a pdf that contains some scanned documents - these need exporting, i also have some tables in there that have editable text in them - these are being exported when i select export all images.
    Can anyone help?
    Cheers!

Search for a word or words in them as a group. Search for .pdf file type and containing....
Use a common word that they all might contain such as "a" or "the", etc.
The files that have been OCR'd will show up in the search. This won't catch 100% of them, but it will allow you to separate most of them.

    Hi Ken,
Thanks for the reply. The project I am working on is a test project for a customer. They could potentially want a number of their educational subjects presented as an interactive text book. The intent of this first project with them is to establish a logical workflow that will allow us to efficiently estimate costs and allow for review throughout the design process. Having worked with customers on creative projects in the past I can anticipate that they will want a number of changes made once they see a working version of the interactive text book.
It is a grim reality that no project can be fully edited and planned prior to working on it and I know revisions and changes are always made once the customer can see their product. It is ok with me if there is no easy way to pass the text back and forth from the customer and me without having to reformat everything but I just want to know that is the way it works in order to provide a realistic time estimate for the project.
My hope was I would be able to export the formatted text, allow them to make edits and then reimport that formatted text. The style sheets I am using are from one of the iBooks Author templates.
Do you know if there is a way to use (or export ) this style sheet so it can be used in a Pages Document?
Or, would the best option be to have the customer install iBooks Author? This would require the customer to have a mac and the software so it doesn't work for all cases.
Another idea I was considering would be to export the book as a PDF and have the customer add markup and notes to the PDF.
All of these options do not seem too great to me.
I am open to any ideas.
    Thanks,
    Rob
