Exporting entire library and its structure.

Hello, I've seen this question before, but not with straight answers. I'm gonna ask one more time just to be safe.
I'm changing my computer, I have my music library stored in a 1Tb external HD. As you may imagine it has several thousands songs and in iTunes they are organized in several hundreds folders, many of them (probably hundreds) are nested folders and so on.
*Is there a "safe" way to export my entire library and ITS STRUCTURE (organization) to my new computer?* so next time I open lunch iTunes in my new computer it looks exactly the same as my old one. (of course after importing and setting everything)
Thanks in advance

Connect the external to the other computer.
Hold Option and launch iTUnes.
Select *Choose library*.
Select the *iTunes library* file in the iTunes folder on the external.

• Exporting a library with its folders and albums

I scanned over 1700 slides into my aperture library. AFter spending a considerable amount of time putting them into folders and albums, I would like to export the project so my husband can put it into his aperture library. I exported the whole project onto my desktop so I could put it in dropbox to enable him to put it into his computer. However, when I exported the library, It came across as just one big library of photos, with no structure. I don't care to reorganize the photos into folders and albums again, as it would be very time consuming. Is there any way to export the library and keep its structure?
Thanks in advance
Nancy

Nancy,
what is your Aperture version, and how did you export?
In the current Aperture version 3.4.5 all projects and albums should be preserved, when you export a library with "File > Export > Projects/Albums/Items as new library"
For example, I selected two albums in the library Inspector simultaniously, made sure, that I only selected the albums in the panel, but not single images within the albums, and then used the command "File > Export > Albums as new library".
The exported library had the two albums, as well as all projects and folders necessary to fill he albums.
Did you perhaps only select one big project of scanned images? Then try again by selecting the albums you want to export. My two albums exported like this: You see, the exported library has quite a few folders with projects inside, as well as my two albums:

• Exporting entire library to jpegs

I've been diagnosed with cancer a second time. Long hard battle ahead with chemo and then a stem cell transplant. Needless to say, getting a few things in order and looking at "legacy" decisions in the sense of what I am leaving my daughters by way of manageable digital content.
I am looking at my three Aperture libraries, around 150,000+ pics between the 3 of them. My family isn't into computers or Aperture, but they enjoy the pics. They don't really desire to learn Aperture or any other program. They simply want to "see" the pics or have access to them in a basic manner that they can understand.
I am wanting to export all pictures systematically to an external hard drive in jpeg format. I have my originals primarily photographed using RAW.
Is there a way to take an entire library and export all the pictures by project name to an external drive in jpeg format so that the project names are somehow transferred as a folder to the external drive? Not sure if I'm making sense with my question as chemo brain has gotten to me.
Here's what I did with my first library. It took many days and there weren't that many projects overall. Second library has many many projects.
I created on the drive folders that corresponded with the project name, since the project name describes the content. Then I would go from project to project, select all, then export to the corresponding folder. Wasn't too bad with the first library, second library is disheartening with the numerous projects, some with only 5-20 pics at a time. Third (current) library is enormous.
So can I somehow tell Aperture to export all projects in a library in jpeg format to a corresponding named structure on an external drive without having to manually create the individual folders (projects)?
Thanks for any insight.
-Robert

Thanks for the kind words and the response. I think I understand. Since this is a huge undertaking, I'm hoping to do this correctly in one attempt (if possible!).
I was studying this library just now. It has 965 projects. Crazy, right? I think this happened when I was migrating from iPhoto to Aperture and merged iPhoto into my existing library. I didn't know what I was doing and now can see that iPhoto had split every day on it's own. This then caused each day to be an individual project.
This library, as you can see from the two attached pics, is rather crazy and random. My newer library has a cleaner simpler structure that works for me.
Question for clarification:
- I am guessing on the left pane of Aperture, near the top, it shows the library name and has "projects, photos, faces, and places." My question is that I guess I would choose "projects" under this option (any other way to select all projects in one move?), then select all the projects, then use the export function as you indicated?
I'm questioning the wisdom of maintaining all the little individual projects that have just a date as a name from the iPhoto import/merge. I've attached two pics, one that shows the overall projects, then one that shows a project expanded with corresponding albums underneath.
I'm not sure I really used any folders technically speaking, just project names with albums underneath to subdivide.
Based on these pics, can you feedback with the best approach? I'm not sure I really want to maintain the "daily divisions" (dates of projects) that happened when I imported the old iPhoto library into this Aperture library. Not sure I have a choice unless I can maybe take the projects that are labeled as dates only and merge them into a large project or folder or album to simplify the structure.
Sorry this is a bit of a mess. I'm open to any and all ideas/suggestions.
Thanks for your help.

• Can't back up entire library and playlists

I set up my I'Tunes to backup to a DVD drive (I did it with a CD drive before and got no song titles or artist names). I hit back up and when asked I chose to back up the entire library and playlists. The back up gave me 241 of 1100 songs on a DVD which was 4.7 Gbs and the library is 3.99 Gigs. It was not the list of songs that I've added since my last back up. It was a bunch of random songs. All the songs in the library were checked and rated. I had upgraded to 7.3.2. I considered going back to 7.2.after what I've read here. I don't know how, but I know it involves filehippo. I Googled filehippo and found one reference which allowed only an upgrade to 7.3.2. Do I need to have my I-Pod plugged in when I back up? I'm scared to death to do this because I'm seeing all these horror stories about losing all songs. All the playlists are on I-Tunes. Any help is really appreciated.

With all due respect, and I really appreciate your help, I may be slow here, but there are about 100 places to look for Help. I started with the help offered with my I-Tunes library and plugged in "can't backup" but I had no luck at all. I kept looking around for an area called help - and they were all over. I would really appreciate it if you could be more specific or, if you wouldn't mind, if the answer is simple if you could just give it to me. I understand it may not be simple, so I really need some more info pointing me to where it is. Sorry I'm so lame on this. It's just that all this I-Tunes mess with all these tons of questions has me confused.
Thanks a million,
Dawn

• IPhoto is exporting entire library (5,900 pics) and freezing up HD!! Help!

Subject line says it all. I bought a new Mac and, in attempting to send all iPhoto library via Firewire, I chose "Export" in iPhoto and never created a folder (I assumed the export would be a folder/file created and not individual photos splashed everywhere), so on startup, all the pics are loading onto my desktop! Now I am beating my head against the psychotic spinning beach ball of death and afraid I will burn up this HD. Mayday!!

Restart your computer with the Command and S keys held down, and enter the following commands:
mount -uw /
cd /Users/username/
mkdir -m 777 -p Desktop/DesktopItems
mv Desktop/*.jpg Desktop/DesktopItems
exit
Replace username in the second line with the name of the home folder; if this is outside of /Users/, the whole path needs to be changed. If the files moved onto the desktop are in a format other than jpg, change the extension in the fourth line. You can run the fourth line multiple times with a different extension specified each time if needed.

• Exporting entire library

What's the best way to import my entire i-tunes library from my laptop to my desk top?

b How to copy and move your music files from one computer to another
This is the conceptual framework with related and important links. Apply it to your specific situation and resources.
The safest and best way (in my opinion) to move your Library to a new computer is to actually clone the entire ‘iTunes’ folder structure, rather than just copying the song files. By copying the entire ‘iTunes’ folder and all sub-folders, you capture not only the music files, but the all-important .ITL Library file (located directly in the ‘iTunes’ folder), which contains all the data about your songs (playlists, ratings, comments, playcounts, last played, etc). See: What are the iTunes Library files?
Install iTunes on the new computer. Then go back to your old computer and move the "iTunes" folder which usually resides inside your "My Music" folder from the old computer to the
i exact same place
on the new one. When you open iTunes on the new computer it will behave exactly the same way it did on the old, Play counts, ratings, comments and all!
b It is usually safer moving files between computers with the same version of iTunes!!
This process works best when cloning exact versions of iTunes, your music files and the iTunes meta-data files. It is also important to note that there is a new naming convention for the iTunes .ITL database file when moving from version 4.8 to 4.9. The ITL file is upward compatible, but not downward compatible (4.8 will choke on a 4.9 ITL file).
Here's a list of methods to copy and move your music files from one computer to another:
1) Use an External Hard Drive (ExHD) to move the complete files and Folder structures from one computer to another (my preferred option). You can clone’ the entire ‘iTunes’ folder structure in one very easy step.
2) Connect the two computers through a router. Or use a Crossover (for PC-to-PC) or Direct (for Mac/Mac or Mac/PC) Ethernet cable (See: http://www.ifelix.co.uk/tech/3001.html). Copy files between computers.
3) Connect the two computers via a USB-to-USB Network Bridge. See: here as an example.
4) Use the iPod as a transfer device, as this extensive Apple link explains. This well written process also works fine while using any other data transfer medium (ExHD, Flash Drive, DVD, CD, Zipp, Jazz, etc.). It will be a bit easier if your iPod (or copy medium) has a larger capacity than your music collection, otherwise you will need to perform multiple copy/move transfers.
5) Burn several DVDs (at 4.7GBs each) with your music data files and load them onto the new computer. Re-writable DVDs are more cost effective (if your DVD drive can manage these types).
6) Burn 6x more on CDs (at 700MB each) than in #5 above and load the files on the new computer. Re-writable CDs are more cost effective (if your CD drive can manage these types).
7) Use a larger USB Flash drive (1GB - 4GB) to move the files. Best if the flash drive is larger than your Library, otherwise you will need multiple copy/move transfers.

• Export RAW-files and its thumbnails from iPhoto

Hi all,
My Canon EOS 5D makes JPEG+RAW at the same time, which is great. Normally I do not need the RAW files, I work with JPEG in iPhoto 6 (OS X 10.4.11). I only want to keep the RAW-files as "negative". With Automator I want to export the RAW-files automatically to a separate folder which I will then backup to a external HD.
Automator should do the following:
1. Copy all RAW-files (extension is .CR2) to a folder on my HD.
2. Delete al RAW-files and its thumbnails from iPhoto
I have done some tests with Automator, but I did not succeed. Can some body help me?

• Export iPhoto library and retaining events?

Is there a way to export the photos and videos from iPhoto while retaining the events? In my case, I have over 400 events, and I could do this one event at a time to export the photos, but I'd like to avoid having to do that over 400 times. Additionally, that wouldn't export the videos; I'd have to do that separately and manually put those into the right folders.
Since iPhoto already knows which photos belong in which event, how can I have it export everything into folders divided and titled by the events already present in iPhoto?

This is related to my other post ( http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2128895 ) about sharing the photos and videos with Windows 7 Media Center through a NAS. Since there doesn't seem to be a native way to do so, I was just going to do one large export of all the photos to the NAS and then just manually update it. However, to do the initial large export, I would like to avoid having to export over 400 different events. I also want to avoid having over 9,500 pictures in one giant folder, unorganized.

• Export Iphoto-library to file structure

I have been searching around for quite some while how to export the Iphoto-library into a 'classic' directory file structure (e.g. folder/event; folder/album,...).
Main raison for doing this is for backup and consolidation purposes: I have quite some 1000nds of pictures on traditional directory structures on my NAS; I want to consolidate this with the Iphoto data I have, without imoprting all the existing stuff into Iphoto.
I have found in fact 2 applications which should serve this purpose:
- the Iphoto to disk solution: http://www.iphototodisk.com, which seems no longer updated and the album export-feature was only in rel. 4 beta available
- Photoshare: a scripting based tool, but I experienced some issues witht the export of albums (empty...)
- a number of scripts found on teh internet.
I also read somewhere that a good alternativ eis to upgrade to Aperture, which seem sto have a better export-capability, including an export which allows to export to full library accoring to events and albums.
I'm surprise that there are not more apps availble for this,as it seems to be a hot topic on the internet.
Any advice ?
Peter

• What is the best way to back-up my entire library, and How??

I need to back up my library before somethings happens!! What is the best way to do that? Also how do you restore it back on your itunes???

My 2 cents...
Fast backup for iTunes library (Windows)
Grab SyncToy 2.1, a free tool from MS. This can be used to copy your entire iTunes library (& other important data folders) onto another hard drive or network share. You can then use SyncToy periodically to synchronise or echo your library to the backup. A preview will show which files need to be updated giving you a chance to spot unexpected changes and during the run only the new or updated files will be copied saving lots of time.
If your media is all organised below the main iTunes folder then you should also be able to open the backup library on any system running the same version of iTunes, regardless of the drive letter or path it appears on.
Step-by-step install guide
You restore files simply by copying them back to where they are missing from, or copy back the entire folder in the event of a major disaster.

• Just bought a new iPod Nano. Still have a working older version of same. I'd like to synch the new one to my entire library and the old one with less memory to a subset of that library. How can I accomplish this?

Not sure if my question should be here or above. So I'll repeat it.
I have a new Nano and an old one. Would like to synch new one to all songs and audible books in my iTunes Library. Would like to synch the old one for just audible books.
How can I do this?

Hi mshields1162,
Great question, and welcome to Apple Support Communities.
First, you may want to choose to have the sidebar displayed for familiarity:
iTunes 11: Frequently used features
http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5649
Afterwards, your device should be displayed if connected:
We'll want to click on it, and choose the Music tab at the top. Let's make sure "Sync Music" is checked:
Afterwards, you'll have the option to sync either the entire music library (for your first iPod), or "Selected playlists, artists, albums, and genres" (for the secondary device). Upon selecting this option, four larger option boxes will appear allowing you to pick and choose what content will be synced. For audiobooks, you may need to do the above in the "Books" section. For a visual instruction on how to do this, see the following:
iTunes 10: Sync to your iPod

• The system Pages library and its RSS feed do not work properly in SharePoint 2010

This question is about RSS feed for the system 'Pages' library in SharePoint 2010.
Now there are 5 'News' pages in the system 'Pages' library. In each news page there is one field called 'Title' for the news title. One of the news page is named 'FileNamePage5.aspx', and the news title is 'This is the title of page5'.
I have enabled RSS in Site Settings, and configured RSS Settings for the 'Pages' library from the Communications section via Document Library Settings. I selected a few columns to display in the RSS description, including the 'Title' column. In the RSS feed
(XML file) of the system 'Pages' library, I checked the XML source code, and found the news page file name appearing in the
tag below within the feed (XML source code).

FileNamePage5

and the original news title 'This is the title of page5' was appearing in the
tag in the feed (XML sorce code)

... This is the title of page5...

.
This would make it hard to extract ONLY the original news title (This is the title of page5) out of the feed via XSLT, because the data within the
tag in the feed also contains data from all other selected columns defined via the RSS
Setting. If I did not select the 'Title' column via RSS Setting above, I even could not find the orinigal news title in the RSS feed.
This is happening for all other news pages in the system 'Pages' library. Is this what SharePoint 2010 normally does? or is something wrong with the settings for site or the system 'Pages' library?
How to display ONLY the original news title (This is the title of page5) in the
tag in the RSS feed. Please Help me to resolve this issue.
谢亚军@Sydney

Hi,
According to your description, my understanding is that you want to display the value in Title column of Pages library in title tag in RSS Feed in SharePoint.
I tested the same scenario per your post, the title tag in RSS Feed displayed the value of Name column in libraries and displayed the value of Title column in lists.
It is by design and there is no OOB way to change the default column mapping in RSS Feed.
I recommend to customize your own RSS Feed style sheet to make the title displays the value of Title column in SharePoint libraries.
Here is a link about customizing the RSS Feed for document library for you to take a look:
