Exporting FCP capture files for PC scum....

HI Ya'll,
Challenged Montanan back from the south.... (but leaving again).
My challenge is to send DVD's to my editor in LA la so he can cut a new demo for a presentation coming up in Guatemala.
Here is what I did:
Took the capture files (Quicktime) from the Scratch folders and burned them to DVD. Then I checked them on the laptop. Looked great.
Just got a call from the guy in LA. He has audio but no VIDEO... how ? The extensions are off. and He is on a PC. I'll get more details.
I paid for him to upgrade from his quicktime to QT Pro --no difference...
These are HD files and show up great on our time line here. Should this work or did I screw up something???
Please Help?

  • Exporting FCP capture files to Avid??

I just transfered over my raw FCP 6 HDV capture files form my mac to another editor's hard drive who is using Avid Xpress Pro (also on a Mac). Will he be able to import those directly into Avid? If not what conversion process is necessary??
I am concerned because these files, which play back fine on my Mac via Quicktime, do not play back on his Quicktime! I was able to play the files back via a program called VLC. Why is this--when I installed my Final Cut Studio were there special codecs/ Pro Application Support files that he does not have because he is using Avid?
Thanks for the insights!! (And suggesting to him that he should use FCP isn't going to work!)
    --Robert

when you export then what is the extension, like .MOV, .MP4, M4V.? if there is not one just get info and in the name and extension line just add it. you will want to add .MOV to the end of the name. when you do this is will ask if your sure that you want to do that, say yes. also if he is using a mac make sure his QT is up to date. another thing to check is when you copy files over check the size of the files, you can do that by getting info by control clicking and selecting info. you will know if they seem too small then you are not copying everything over.

  • Best practice for exporting a .mov file for YouTube

I am using FCPX 10.0.9 with a MacBook Pro. We are needing to upload relatively small-size high school football videos as .mov files to YouTube for my newspaper. I have been choosing the Export File option with the setting set to h.264, exporting the file to the desktop and then uploading that .mov file to YouTube. (I do not have Compressor installed on this Mac.) The other night the first of three files done like this uploaded fine, but the next two just kept processing and processing at YouTube and never finished. The following morning the files processed fine. Any thoughts about why ths might be happening?
And would it be better to export in another file format --.mp4 files -- instead that might cause less of a problem and which of the export options would be best?
    Thanks,
    Douglas

Am I correctly uploading a .mov file to YouTube by using the Export File command with the export setting set to .h264 then if I wish a reasonable size file for upload?
Sure. There are many ways to get videos to YT and yours is a reasonable approach.
"Reasonable size" should be thought of in terms of upload time. Again, YT will re-compress whatever you give it. So depending on how quickly you need to get it up on the Web, it's better to upload files that have more information than less information. (To that end, some folks upload very large Pro Res files; they also have a lot of patience.)
Just to let you know, the majority of FCPX users follow one of two workflows:
    1) Share>You Tube option and have FCP handle the uploading;
    2) Export as a Pro Res Master File; bring the master file into Compressor and apply the user's custom settings; upload using YT's uploader.
FWIW, I prefer the second workflow.

  • FCP captured files showing as Unix Executable

I know there's been a bit of discussion about this problem but I wanted to see if someone could shed a bit more light on my situation. For the past few years we've been doing all our video capturing (using FCP 5.1.4 capturing in HDV) and editing on a PowerMac G5 running 10.4. Once finished with a project it would get packaged to a larger Dell file server. When we upgraded to a new imac and FCP 7 all of our projects mov files were showing up as Unix Executable. I tried chmod -x but it didn't really solve the problem. What does work is this:
    1. Transfer an entire project from the dell file server to my PowerMac G5.
    2. Connect to the PowerMac G5 from my Core i5 iMac through network.
    3. The project movie files from the G5 show up normally in the finder of my i5.
    4. Connect to dell file server from my i5.
    5. Transfer files from the G5 to the dell file server via my i5.
    6. Files show up properly from the dell server on my i5.
Now this is all well and good cause it seems to work. The problem is we have thousands of files and terabytes of projects. Obviously OS X is just changing something small in the file about how it reads it. Is there a way I could alter this directly on the dell server without having to transfer all my files in the way described above?
    Hope this makes sense. Thanks.

Looks like I may have fixed my own problem. FCP never used to put an mov extension on any of it's captured files. Simply putting it on seems to have fixed the problem. Still really doesn't explain why the previous method worked, but it's a lot easier making an automator action to put extensions on than transferring terabytes of data.

  • Exporting Audition .wav files for ProTools correctly????

I'm currently using Audition 3.0, recording multiple live tracks (around 20 instruments at one time) in multitrack mode. While thes e tracks are recording live, Audition is creating the .wav files (source files) in a specified folder....correct?  Now, I've recorded/captured the audio/wav files for the project, and I now want to export these .wav/source files onto a portable hard drive and load (import) them into ProTools for final mixdowns. What are the correct steps in exporting the Audition .wav files, in the right ProTools format, so that ProTools will recognize them properly and open in a PT session?
I found a post on your forum about this saying:
"Audition will export files directly in PT's restricted 24-bit format as well if needed (Audition's norm is 32-bit floating point)."
I have another person doing our mixdown using ProTools, if you're wondering why I'm asking this and not using Audition for the mixdo wn.
Thank you for your time and I look forward to hearing back from somebody on how to do this.

You can easily use Audition's "Batch Processing" tool to convert your 32-bit source files to a ProTools compatible 24-bit format.  Switch to "Edit View" and click File > Batch Processing...  In the dialog that comes up, click the "Add Files" button and select the WAV files recorded for your session.  (These files will be in a subfolder of where you saved the original session, named "<session name>_Recorded"  For example, if you created your session in \My Documents\Adobe\Audition\3.0\My Session\  the recordings will be stored in \My Documents\Adobe\Audition\3.0\My Session\My Session_Recorded\ )
After the files are loaded, click the "New Format" tab and set the Output Format to "Windows PCM (*.WAV)" then click the Format Properties button and choose "24-bit packed int (type 1, 24-bit)"  and click OK.  Click the "Destination" tab and choose a folder to collect the new files, and click "Run Batch."
After the conversion process has completed, you should be able to send those files to your ProTools engineer for mixing.

  • Anaylyzing capture file for network troubleshooting

We're experiencing a "slow" network report on one of our field sites.  Using SNMP/MRTG I did confirm that the link is being saturated.
Now I'd like to analyze what might be causing the traffic spike.  Unfortunately my router doesn't support NetFlow.  So I used a span port and captured a few minutes worth of traffic.  Now that I've got my .cap file, how do I analyze it?  I have WireShark, which shows me all the packets. But I'd like a summary that tells me:
-Protocol breakdown.  What protocols are using what percentage of the bandwidth
-Top talkers.  What IPs are using the most bandwidth.
I can't seem to find that in wireshark.  Any other opensource tools I could use to analyze my capture file?
    Thanks

Thanks.  Top Talkers works as I expected, so thanks for that!
But for the protocol breakdown, the report seems a little odd.  It shows me 49.24% of the traffic is data, but then doesn't really break it down beyond that (nothing adds up to the full 100% of TCP).  See attachment.  Thanks!

  • Converting FCP .mov files for Final Cut Express

Working in FCP 6, I've transferred P2 footage (720p30) into an edit, via the Prores 422 (HQ) codec. No problems, edit done. But now my client would like the source clips to manipulate in her copy of Final Cut Express (version 4).
FCE doesn't recognize Prores, it seems, so I've tried converting a sample clip via "Apple Intermediate Codec," which does produce a recognizable file, but requires a render. From what I can see of FCE, the AIC codec is the way to go, but obviously I'm missing some setting, because whenI asked her to render, export as .mov, then re-import, and that new clip shows without having to render.
That tells me it's probably some specific codec consideration, but I'm not really familiar enough with FCE to troubleshoot it.
Any ideas about the proper export settings for getting 720p30 HD footage into FCE?
    Thanks in advance!

The problem is a little more complicated with DVCPRO HD media because it uses its own anamorphic frame size for 720p media. Open the file you need to convert into the QT player and give the exact specifications from the movie inspector.

  • Can I convert a fcp 7 file for use in fcp x then back to tcp 7?

We are working on projects that were started in FCP 7 and need to be submitted in FCP 7, but all we have is FCP X. Is it possible to covert from 7 to x, finish the project, then convert back to 7? Any help is greatly appreciated.

    You need two apps:
    7 to X:
    http://assistedediting.intelligentassistance.com/7toX/
    and X to 7:
    http://assistedediting.intelligentassistance.com/Xto7/
Be sure to read all the information about using XML for transfer - not everything will make it between platforms.
You will also need to reconnect your media.

  • Need wild card command to export multiple csv files for software inventories list

I have a powershell script that does software inventories and then export into a csv file. now the problem is if i were to do this on multiple machine and point the path to a network share it will replace the olde csv file since the csv file has a same name
and i will end up having only one computer software inventories instead of multiple ones.
    here's the string
    Get-WmiObject win32_Product | Select Name,Version,PackageName,Installdate,Vendor | Sort InstallDate -Descending| Export-Csv P:\test\inventorries.csv
is there a way i can use a wild card to name these files in a sequential order? i have tried *.csv but no luck

How about adjusting the filename to include the machine hostname.
    Get-WmiObject win32_product |Select Name,Version,PackageName,Installdate,Vendor | Sort InstallDate -Descending | Export-Csv -Path ('p:\test\inventory_' + (hostname) + '.csv')

  • How can I export layered TIFF files for viewing in Preview?

Being an architectural photographer I create a lot of layered files with many exposures with different lights on and daylight separately. I always save my layered files in a folder called Layered files in the project. I also save flattened 8 bit Tif's at full resolution for my client as a print file in a separate folder along with another folder for web and device optimized files. When my client opens some of my flattened files they tell me the only see one layer. When I open some of them in Preview I get the same result. I only see the last layer I put into my layered file. But when I open the same photo in Bridge I see the full flattened file as I saved it. What can I do about that?
    Sherwood

Ah, yes. On the images that did what I described there was a layer mask in the channels drop down that showed only what was shown in the view. I trashed it and all was well.
    Thanks for you help,

  • Exporting file for Flash Catalyst use?

Hey everyone.  I've made a video in Flash Pro, and I want to be able to play it in Flash Catalyst.  I'm using 5.5 of both versions, btw.  I export the Flash Pro video to a .mov file and then use Media Encoder to make that a .flv file.  I bring that file into FC and publish to web.  However, when I put those 'deploy to web' files on my website, the video doesn't play.  Everything else works except for the video.  So I put a generic, short .flv file that I downloaded from the internet into my FC file.  I published it to my website again, and everything worked fine.  The video played.  So obviously the problem with my video must be in the encoding process.
How should I do this?  I read one article online that said when I export a .mov file for FC, I should make sure that I don't have 'Fast - Compressed Header' selected in the Streaming options.  Well, I checked and I don't.  It's just under regular 'Fast'.  So what am I doing wrong here?  I've even tried converting my .mov file to a f4v file, and that doesn't work.  Help here would be so greatly appreciated.

Ah.  I think they just tested the .html file.  Though, they were trying nearly everything yesterday, so they might have tried the swf file, too.  I'll ask him this afternoon.  There's a webpage included in both deploy-to-web and run-local folders.  Both are entitled main.html.  I'm looking at both codes in Dreamweaver to see what would be different, how the code is calling to the flv video, and I can't see any change!  I switch from one code view to the other, and nothing is different.  The only difference is that in the video size area, the html file from the run-local folder is bigger.  So obviously something more was put into the run-local html file, but what I don't know.  I can't figure that out from the code.  Here's the code from the run-local file, though it looks the same in the deploy-to-web html file, too.

    Hi gurus
I've exported the csv file for 0D_SD_C03 and store it on my local disk.
when i try to preview the file using the file that i stored in my local drive , the execution close w/o any error message but during loading it shows no data found. ( i have tried to open the file before execute the loading and the system prompt with an error message saying the file  is open) .
When i tried to store the file on the application server and execute the preview it says that error 4 occurred.
Can anyone suggest what happen and how to rectify this
    Thank you

    Hi,
The reasons may be the file is open, the format/flatfile structure is not correct, the mapping/transfer structure may not be correct, presence of invalid characters/data inconsistency in the file, etc.
Check if the flatfile in .CSV format.
