Exporting file as compressed mp3

After a bit of info relating to exporting a GB file as a compressed mp3 if any one here is an 'expert' ....... I'm using GB (10.0.2) for the first time to edit our first podcast (which was originally an mp3 file). I've gone through the file and edited and deleted out the gaps and bits I don't want in there and saved as a AIFF file (which has gone from 7mb to nearly 100mb).
If I now try to export as an mp3, I have no compression option, so the file is still nearly 100mb.
I've tried the Join Regions option, but this just creates a new track which, is just a copy of the original unedited version.
Any advice on how I get this edited version (which is in various regions) all joined up and output as a standard (compressed) mp3 file?
Thanks in advance!!

The only compression option is the quality pop-up menu below the options AAC, MP3, AIFF. Selecting low quality will give you a file size reduced by a factor of four.

  • Exporting file as MP3....???

I took an .aiff file from a cd and dragged and dropped it into Logic on the audio 1 track and cut it to 16 seconds long (that's how long I need it for a motion graphics piece). I can't figure out how to export the file as an mp3 ??? or a shortened .aiff for that matter.
    Thanks for your time!

Sorry, to be more specific (since you want to bounce the shortened version):
Use cycle to set the locators, then bounce and select mp3 instead of PCM.

  • Bizarre Sound Distortion on Export - Not Newbie Compression issue

I'm trying out the Flash CS3 demo - OSX. (Using OSX 10.4.10.)
I've got a slightly complicated timeline with about 8 layers
and some things alpha fading in and out, and a bunch of sound
samples being used as timeline sound effects (forget the term, but
attached to frames not streaming). No scripting.
The sounds are mostly too long for the amount of time
allotted to them in the timeline, and cut previous sounds off. I'm
speculating this might be a possible issue. That is, I have say a 5
second sound, which has only 3 seconds of time to play, before
another sound interrupts it in the same timeline layer.
There are two separate layers of sound playing at the same
    time.
All the original sounds are imported into the movie as
44.1/16bit AIFFs. They are mono files (might be another possible
    issue).
I'm trying to export with quality of 128k MP3. I've been
    trying different variations:
    - setting the compression for the audio files in the
Library/setting movie export settings to use Library settings
    - setting audio files in the Library to use "default
compression", and specifying the correct 128k MP3 setting in the
    export settings
    - or both of these (set individually in library, then
    overridden in export settings).
I've tried with and without the "use mono" setting (both in
Library files and export settings). (This is a question for me:
what should be the correct setting for that when the original file
    already is mono?)
Sometimes everything's great. I test or export the movie and
    the sound is fine.
Other times I test or export the movie -- with exactly the
same audio settings as the last time when it worked -- and now get
unbearably hideous hissing/cracking instead of the correct sound.
Most dangerously -- I think but haven't quite convinced
myself -- the same flash export file may sometimes play fine, and
sometimes play with the distortion. So I'm not sure if this is an
export issue, Flash player issue, or combination of export doing
something semi-weird that the player only sometimes chokes on. A
"bad" export is distorted both in the desktop Flash player that
comes with the Flash demo, and in a browser with Flash plugin 9 r45
    (OSX).

As for your issue...let's go step by step:

Is this intended? You are having an issue with 5 second
sounds being cut off after 3 seconds...why
not place them on different layers to avoid this? I don't
    understand the workflow here.
[*There are two separate layers of sound playing at the same
    time.*]
Ok - that makes more sense, so you have 2 layers both
containing sounds that cut each other off?
[*All the original sounds are imported into the movie as
    44.1/16bit AIFFs. They
are mono files (might be another possible issue).*]
Mono shouldn't matter - but the quality of the original will
matter - specifically the levels, if
the overall level is originally too high (or "hot"), then
clipping will occur once compressed from
    Flash (in some cases).
[Sometimes everything's great. I test or export the movie
    and the sound is fine.]
    Can you provide the FLA?
[Other times I test or export the movie -- with exactly the
    same audio settings
as the last time when it worked -- and now get unbearably
    hideous
hissing/cracking instead of the correct sound.]
Never heard of this before - need to see the FLA.

You may take exception to this but it sounds very much like
user error or something beyond Flash
(like an issue with the source audio files). Your opinion is
subjective but AS3, Flash, Flex is
hardly "little more than a text editor". True the timeline
hasn't changed much over the years but
funny that it is still the king when it comes to animation
across so many mediums - why fix what
ain't broken and works so very well for so many worldwide?

  • IBooks Author: in exported file, one page loads very slowly...

iBooks Author: in exported file, one page loads very slowly and drags when scrolling through pages, almost stopping the scroll.  I have never seen this problem before with photo pages.  Normally they scroll just as smoothly as text pages.
I have tried rebuilding the page with more compressed files to no avail.  The image files used on the page are not any bigger than others I have used previously without any problem.
I have tried restarting my iBook.
I am using a template that I have modified quite a bit.  The templates currently offered by Apple and third parties are not even close to what I am looking for in terms of layout, so I have to rip almost everything out of the page and start with a blank page, most of the time.  I tried modyfying the layouts to save time and then saved as a new template.  Apple really needs to add a module to create your own template at the beginning of a project.  Or they need to create one very open template, without much on the pages.

I finally solved the problem by using an unmodified template. I would still like to know how my modifications to the other template caused the problem, but for now it remains a mystery.  Thanks for your ideas.
Next I will try modifying the template without saving it as a template (merely saving it as a file) to see if I can get away with my modifications.  Also I will make fewer modifications.
Slowly but surely I am learning this program by trial and error.  Each time I try a few formatting variations, output an iBooks file, and open it on my iPad.  I have probably done 20 of these tests, so far.  Once I work out every detail of the design and structure, I will build the final book.  I am lucky to have a beautiful PDF of the hardcover version, generously provided by my publisher.  This not only sets a high bar for me, but also allows me to use some of their design elements via screen capture.
iBooks Author has great potential, but I along way to go to get there. One feature I would really like to see in the next update: the ability to add a hidden caption to a photo.  The reader would tap the image and the caption would appear. Tap again and it disappears.

  • Exporting files that aren't too big to be able to upload to the web

I just got a new iMac and want to buy Final Cut Studio 2 for Final Cut Pro 6. My only concern is everytime i've used FCP, the files are always very huge. In the GB range. thats fine when im putting that stuff on a dvd, but now I need to upload those things to the web.
Is there a way to export projects so they are a manageable size? I know quality will get lost but I want to know if I can export files that I will be able to upload and have people view before I spend a good amount of $$ buying it. Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks.

I like my way the best... but only because I like my way the best.
First, understand that what you are dealing with is an art... compression.
BUT thankfully Apple sees that my way is the best TOO and gave it to you as a simple option in the export path. (wink)
    SO...
File - Export - QT Conversion.
    Then,
    FORMAT: QuickTime Movie
    USE: Broadband HIGH
Then, hit the OPTIONS button and then SIZE. If your sequence is 16:9 change the size to 420x270. If not, leave alone.
    Hit done and export.
Should come in around 5 megs a minute and look great!
    Good luck,

  • My Compressor Export file not liked by a program

    Hi,
So my Quicktime Movie export files from Motion are not being allow to be imported into a audio program i use (Ableton Live)....I've tried H264 and PJEG both at 640x480 and 29.97
I've checked had no problems importing movies that had the same settings as those above
    into Ableton.
I then discovered that if I opened the QT movies in QT Player and then re-exported them with the same settings....that those files were then able to be imported into the program.
In the H264 re-export it seemed to create a smaller file.
in the PJEG re-export it created a much larger file.
but both could be imported into Ableton Live.
Is Compress QT export creating a wierd header on the QT files?
Should I be turning on/off such things as:
    premultiply alpha
    active camera
    lighting
    field render
    motion blur
    Frame Blending
    Use Float Bit Depth
I've found the work around but would love to save on the time and
disk space it takes to re-export them from Quicktime (and also to understand
    what the deal is)
    thanks

The option worth trying is "replace asset" rather than deleting and reimporting - the latter guaranteed to lose all the info.
But Encore is not very forgiving when many changes are made. And a "do-over" is often the best option.
There is, of course, no "Encore CC" - just EN CS6. But the fact that you are running Mavericks and having the same sort of Encore errors that occur with various operating systems, and not basic program operating problems, is encouraging for Mavericks' users.

  • LARGER Exported File sizes

I recently upgraded to LR V2 (also use PS CS3)
For some reason my exported file sizes have increased immensely
Typically I would convert from RAW to TIFF with the following settings:
    11" x 17" print size
    compression: none
    Adobe RGB1998
    16 bit
    resolution 300 DPI
These files would convert at about 90MB (manageable on my system)
They are now converting at a whopping 400MB (aging system can't handle this!)
Is this the new LR V2 standard, is there some setting I need to change?
    Any help greatly appreciated.
    Rich

No, you must be doing something wrong there. 300 ppi (NOT DPI!) at 11x17 and 16 bits uncompressed should be 90MB as you can calculate with simple math. If you enable compression (highly recommended for tiffs - it's lossless compression) you should be able to cut that in half.

  • Export Itunes music to MP3

Is it possible to export Itunes music to MP3 files? If so, what is the process to do this from Itunes. Thanks.
    Mufutau

I thought that was for importing?
It's not just for importing. The import setting controls the format available for the convert option. Once converted, move the MP3 files as needed; their location can be found by right-clicking them.

  • Exported file plays wrong audio with slide

    Hi all,
I just produced a tutorial in v2 that has sound files embeded
in almost every slide. They were originally wavs, but I have
captivate convert them to 64kbit mp3s. I also have some slides that
do not contain sound, but contain .flv files. (These .flv files
    have sound.)
When I previewed the file, everything worked perfectly. The
sound cues were right, and the videos appeared just as they should.
However, when I published the file, the slides played completely
different sound files from other parts of the project and in the
wrong order. I tried exporting using both standalone .exe and
web-based formats using Flash 8, but the results were the same each
    time.
Does anyone have any ideas about what could cause this
problem? Based on what I've seen, I think the three most likely
    candidates for trouble are:
    1) Slide audio errors
    2) .Flv files
    3) Flash 8
But there could be other, stranger things afoot.
Please let me know if you need more info about
    something.

I tried re-exporting as an H264 mov but the exported file shrunk to 400 mb and lost most of the footage.
    How do I fix?
I am guessing that you may have accidentally made a selection in the timeline before exporting - and then only that was exported.
    Try exporting like Russ said.
And Russ meant to write VLC.

  • Glitch in exported file

i exported my project using the quicktime conversion. i'm bringing the exported file into another sequence. when i play it back using quciktime or in FCP there are scanline glitches that appear. Anyone know a good seeting to use ???
    -Thanks!

Dont use QT conversion just export as QT movie and as Joni mentioned use current settings. I would check make self contained and not select re-compress.
Why export? Just drag the nest or seq into your other seq.

Agreed. Unfortunately there are many cameras that only output JPEG format files. The camera file (or any other original JPEG file) is your "raw" unedited file inside LR. If you need to send the file to someone else for further editing who doesn't have LR then Exporting with 100% Quality setting might make sense. I say "might" because it's still possible to get very good results using lower Quality setting JPEGs if you only re-save the file one (1) time after further editing. I agree that 16 bit, ProPhoto RGB, TIFF Export files are best for "critical" work and when using 'Edit in Photoshop' from LR.
I suggest taking a look at the JPEG compression image tests on Jeffrey Friedl's Blog. It's a wealth of information! LR's Quality settings range from 0% to 100% or 100 Quality levels. In reality there are only 13 Quality levels, which are the same as in PS.

Why not simply Import the JPEG file into LR and do all your editing non-destructively? There's no need to convert the JPEG file to TIFF unless you need to use LR 'Edit in PS.' Lightroom uses a16 bit/color, ProPhoto RGB, Linear Gamma workspace for all images even when editing sRGB JPEG files.

  • Is there some way to tell lightroom to just re-export the previously exported files?

Shot a celebration (Park, Mass and Party), went home and processed the raw files in Lightroom, Exported them into 3 folders.
Then I proceeded to edit the files in photoshop, first folder that consisted of the park went well. Files looks great, even after compressing them again.
Then up were the Mass pictures and that's where it all went down hill. When I loaded up the first image it was compressed to hell All the black areas were all pixelated, so I went into lightroom and sure enough it changed the quality from 100% down to 60%!
All my other settings were the same so I didn't accidentally reset the whole thing. Not sure why or how Lightroom did this, I've had it on 100% for the past 2 years!
Now I have to export them all over again, the trouble is there was 800 that I culled down to just 150. I really don't want to hand pick them all over again.
Is there some way to tell lightroom to just re-export the previously exported files?

    The short answer: no.
Lightroom remembers recently imported files in a collection, but does not remember recently exported files.
That said, you could use the SQLiteroom plugin (free, by me) to round up a collection of *all* exported files, which might help.

  • Won't export files as a MP4

    Hi all,
So I have Final Cut Pro version 5.1.4 and it is now no longer letting me export files as a MP4. I have always done it the same way for the last couple of years which is basically the settings that youtube suggests. I go to quicktime conversion and set all the right settings and then click save. The export seems to be normal in that it has an export bar and a time estimate. However, right as it's finishing up, Final Cut closes with an unexpected err. This happens every single time. Anyone have any suggestions? Thanks!

Any CMYK images in your sequence? Can you open every clip that you used in Quicktime? Does anything show up as missing? Are there any images bigger than 2K? is your destination drive full? Is your system drive full or getting close to full? If you've been doing this all along, and it suddenly stopped working, I would first assume (unless of course you just did an OS update or a FCP update) that something on your computer changed, not something in FCP. Check your system up and down before you dig into FCP just to find that you've re-installed everything for no good reason. Have you installed any 3rd party plug-ins since the last time you compressed to MP4? And, can you compress to anything else, or is the whole transcoding process halted?
