Exporting file to dxf or dwg in Illustrator

I am trying to export a pdf file to a dxf or dwg in Illustrator, but when I do it saves each individual path into it's own separate file. I end up with more than 18,000 png files.  What am I doing wrong?

I left the default settings as seen here...     Tried selecting "Export Selected Art Only" as well on the next attempt to export and got just a dxf file (woohoo!). I have sent the file on to the guy, but he has yet to respond if it works.  I will just keep changing up the settings until it comes out right!  Originally asked question to see if anyone had an immediate answer so I wouldn't have to go through trial and error.  Thanks for your input and appreciate your response/help with this.

  • Exporting Adobe Illustrator CS files to DXF or DWG

How do I export Adobe Illustrator CS files to AutoCAD DXF or DWG files and still keep the size 100%. The engineer opening my .DXF and .DWG files said my drawings are over 300% larger than actual.
    Thx in advance!

Hello Narss, to answer your question earlier, my Professor showed me that you can rescale you drawing by dividing the drawing by 3% (.0333).
    Sincerely,

  • When I export files in .dxf, and send via email, the client says they show up empty, although I see them in my attachment.

Can anyone help me with the right sequence of saving and sending?  I select the entire design and save for export.  Then I attach the file as usual.

On Mac (Yosemite) you can right-click (or control-click) on the file in the Finder and choose "compress ..." -- this makes a zip file.
Not sure on Windows, but it should be something similar.
Zipping a file doesn't change its format. Rather, zip puts it in a wrapper, also removing anything that can be compressed, to make the file smaller. When the receiver gets it and unzips it, the file is unwrapped and returned to its original format.

  • Export to dxf or dwg fails

    Hi,
I am trying to export to DXF or DWG and Illustrator fails, regardless of the settings entered into the dialog boxes for either file format.
The error message is also very unhelpful -
"The operation cannot complete due to an unknown error [PARAM]"
Has anyone a solution for this?
    Thank you for any help.
    Best,

This issue has been sorted with Adobe chat support.
For anyone else - deleting the settings file in the roaming profile on windows 8.1 did it.
    Cheers

  • Illustrator CS3 Import and Export File Format list?

    Hello,
Has anyone typed up an updated supported import and export file format list for CS3? I used to reference a support knowledgebase document, 1001741, (no longer on Adobe's site) that showed the majority of file formats and versions that Illustrator was able to import. I searched all over and couldn't find one, then called support and they confirmed they no longer had a list like that available--they had split the import options into separate lists--like what versions of Photoshop files, what versions of .eps files, .tiff files etc. Illustrator CS3 could open.
The reason I was looking because I wanted to see what version Corel file CS3 could open after I was not able to open a customer's v.12 .cdr file.
    Thanks,
    Rick H.

I am pretty sure that the last supported version of Corel that AI can open is version 10.

  • How can I bring a Sketchup Make file (or exported JPG) into AI and get single line paths to export as a .DXF file?

I need to draw flat objects for laser cutting in Sketchup Make (free version) and send them to the cutter as .DXF files.  What is the process to use AI to convert them?  AI will not import .SKP files but sketchup will output .tif .png or .jpg.  When I try to use AI to make paths it draws double paths around all the black lines rather than a single path down the middle.  Thanks!

Thanks rcraighead, but this version does not seem to have the PDF output/save option.  BUT someone suggested this link  Convert Sketchup SKP files to DXF or STL | guitar-list  which is a Sketchup plugin (free version) which will allow DXF output.  The 'polymesh face' output option seems to be what the Laser cutter needs!  I am still curious as to an AI solution to this also....

  • Illustrator CS6 : Some layers are missing when exporting files

    Hello all,
I'm trying to export my project for use in Adobe Director 11, and I'm encountering a problem with the export feature that I believe to be a legit bug, and seeing from the amount of threads related with my problem, I believe some other people have encountered it too. I provided some pics for an easier explanation.
So.. firstly, the image below is the screenshot of my project in AI, combination of paths, mask and pictures.
Next I'm trying to export it to PNG without artboard & use transparent background. Notice that the export preview still shows the image that I expect as the export result.
    Below is the exported image.
As you can see, some part of the project is 'missing' in the exported files. The problem still occurred no matter I exported it to png, jpg, even psd. Changing the export resolution and anti-aliasing setting doesn't help.
I've encountered the same problem with different project for at least 5 times in like the last 8 months, and I find that each time I encountered the problem, it can only be temporary fixed by some specific procedures and sometimes each problem won't work with the same workaround. For example, one time I can properly export the project after I copy & paste the 'missing' layers and delete the original layers, in other time I have to select the 'missing' layers, move it a little and then move them back to its first location in order to export it properly. I also find that copying the entire layer that I want to export to a new document works a few times. I can't remember some other solutions I have tried that works, but if these solutions doesn't work anymore, I have to find another and it's pretty confusing since it happen to be 'random'.
Since I believe that this happen to be a program bug, I would love if one of those Adobe guy read this post and direct the problem directly to the AI team or something so it can be fixed in the next updates. Until then, anyone ever experienced the problem? What did you guys do to 'fix' the problem?
Many thanks for people who help me here.
P.S. As I'm writing the last part, exporting my current project to PNG with transparent background seems to be working properly after I tried to export to PNG with white as the background color, I dunno  why, but it works now. I still want to know other workarounds to 'fix' the problem though, that could be helpful for other people out there.

The first thing I was going to ask was if you saved as PDF earlier, but then I noticed you specifically said not in your first post.  I have lost two layered high res images in the last couple of months due to getting mixed up after exporting to PDF for print.  I still don't know how it happened, but I have to assume user error.
I also note you are using CS6 which has the JDI features, so saving as a JPG would not have flaterened the layers.  I almost never use TIFF as it feels better to use PSD as it is the native format, and it limits the opertunity to mess up.  So I am not being very helpful.  If you absolutely didn't save out as JPG or PFD or similar, then you have to start thinking bug, but I have never heard of this happening outside of user error.
[EDIT]  Whoops.  Overlap.  I called for my breakfast half way through typing my answer.  Glad you got it fixed

  • Saving as DWG in Illustrator CS2 - help!!!

I'm trying to save a file as a .dwg or .dxf in Illustrator CS2. Everytime I save, it creates two files, a .bmp or .jpg and the .dwg or .dxf
Does this always happen, the two file situation? Because then the files can't be separated from each other if you intend to open them. I need to send these to part of our parent corporation, and it was my understanding that it shouldn't be two documents. I'd never saved as a .dwg or .dxf before, so this is new to me, I'm not sure what is considered "normal."
Can someone help me understand what's going on here?

It's normal in case your Illustrator file contains rasterized objects or objects which are rasterized during the export process.
You can choose which raster format to use in the Auto CAD export options (in Illustrator 14 it's .png or .jpg). Any raster object in the Illustrator file is separately exported to the same folder the .dwg file is exported to. When you reopen that .dwg in Illustrator the raster files come in as linked files.
Just send them the whole folder including the .dwg and the raster files.

  • Export file formats from flash?

Hi, I have an issue concearning existing file formats for export in Flash CS4.
According to the user's manual in Italian I have found, http://help.adobe.com/it_IT/Flash/10.0_UsingFlash/WS0E26E472-1533-4297-A904-59476E8E1935.h tml
available formts include EPS and AI.
As far as AI is concearned, I have this option but exported AI files are hard to open in Illustrator, since a number of problems appear.
If I separate all groups in Flash and then export to AI format, Illustrator finally opens the AI file, but changing the colours and the shape of my design.
Moreover, no dialogue box for Illustrator version options appear when I choose AI for export, as is described in the support page.
As to EPS file format, it is not in the export file dialogue box, the formats I have are JPG, PNG, GIF, EMF, WMF, BMP.
My point is that I draw in Flash, then I need to export the designs in Illustrator for print optimization, but the content changes dramatically, if I actually can open the files.
    Caould anyone help me?
    Silvia

I am unsure about the Illustrator export, as I have never needed to do this, nor do I have CS4.
The EPS reads as a printer option, not an export one:
"An EPS file can be printed with a PostScript printer. ... This format has no definable export options"

How do I export file from Photoshop CC

  • Export File Names with Dashes

How do I tell Illustrator to NOT put dashes in the file names when I save for web and to JPG or PNG, etc. etc.?  I take them out, only to have Illustrator put them right back in. I can understand if this is for people creating images specifically for websites, whereby spaces are invalid for file names, but I'm not and I happen to like my spaces, thank you very much! Frustrated.

You can export a file, so that the version name is used as the filename for the exported file. So you would have to open each Faces stack and rename the versions in this with a custom name preset, where you add the name of the person to the custom name.
    A lot of work.
If you export the an image version with a named face, Aperture 3.5.1 will add the name as a keyword to the exported file. Perhaps the keyword will suffice for your purpose?

  • Files in dxf format

Good Evening, How do I open/save/view files in DXF?

DXF format - Do you mean AutoCAD "Drawing Exchange Format"?
Adobe Reader Touch is a PDF viewer.  It is not intended to support the DXF format.
If your files are exported as PDF, you should be able to open/view the resultant PDF files in Adobe Reader Touch.  However, no editing of PDF contents is supported.

  • Numbers Added to Exported files in CS6

Is there any way to prevent Illustrator from adding numbers to the end of exported files? It's really annoying because I end up with a bunch of extra files and only need the single exported version that I overwrite when making changes to the AI file. It's also annoying when I have an exported file linked in a Premiere or Indesign file. I was last using CS3 wich didn't have this 'feature.'

Right, but why have an extra step with an unecessary work around? There should be a setting to control files names with artboard exports...

  • Convert my dynamic Drawing (created in a Flash Dialog using AS 3) into the .DXF and .DWG form

    Hi ,
I want to convert my dynamic Drawing (that I created in a Flash Dialog using AS 3) into the .DXF and .DWG format. Is there any way by which I can give the export functionality on the flash page so that the dynamic drawing that created in flash code will export into .DXF and .DWG format.
    Please Help
    Thanks,
    Simon

There's no automatic way to convert to AutoCAD formats... you will need to write your own. You will need to figure out the formats of .dxf and .dwg and then probably use ByteArray to output. It will not be a trivial task.
    Hi,
Can you please give me some example for this?
I have used AlivePDF to convert my Diagram to PDF but it create a Raster image in PDF and all vector data is lost.
I want to convert this PDF to .dxf and .dwg format using any tool. but not found any way around.
    Thanks!!
