Exporting Final Cut prjects for Premiere Pro

Hello,
I wanted to know if some knows what would be the best and quickest way to export a project from final cut in a format that will allow me to import that file in Premiere.  I know i can export the final cut project as a quciktime movie but that converting process takes FOREVER.  I was wondering if there is a way around quick time.

Eddie points out something that will likely help you, though maybe not in time.
First, I'd make a complete backup of your FCP Project onto an external HDD - do not know FCP, so cannot help you with exactly the best way to do this. Get everything and keep the folder structure the same.
Though it does take time, I'd also do the .MOV Export from FCP, as the ultimate backup and a possible failsafe, should the CS4 4.1 still not get it right. You might have to convert your .MOV file outside of either FCP, or PrPro, but you will have it.
Last, if you've been a good student (and I'd guess that you have been), I'll bet that your instructor would grant you access to the lab's Mac and FCP, especially since this was a project for this semester. Now, if you are moving away from university, that might throw a monkeywrench into things, but if your local to the shcool, talk to your professor now, and make arrangements. I used my film school's editing booth for a few years after graduation with the department's permission - sweet, since time on an 8-plate Moviola was expensive as heck way back then.
Good luck, and make sure to get everything and I do mean EVERYTHING on your external HDD.

  • Converted from Final Cut 7 to Premiere Pro CC

Hello totally awesome community of hard working people who make cool things!
I am converting from Final Cut 7 to Premiere Pro CC. I've been in for 1 day and am impressed that many of the shortcuts are the same.
I have much to learn and am studying every day.
Do you have any recommendations for any great free video tutorial series on this software?
    Thanks!
Check out the film I made with Final Cut 7. I'm excited about Premiere Pro CC because it will save me a lot of time!!

  • SSD for OS, Final Cut X and Premiere Pro CS6?

We're looking at specs for new iMacs for our upcoming FY13 purchases.  Our install will consist of Mac OS, Office 2011, Final Cut X, Motion, Compressor, CS6 Master Collection.  Our process includes all video production being done using external drives.  I'm trying to decide if the 256GB SSD internal drive option will be sufficient for the install we have in mind.  I know all the software will fit, with plenty of room to spare, and we'd like to take advantage of the increased performance of a SSD boot drive, I'm just a little concerned about the capacity.
Maybe 256GB is perfectly fine since all production will be from and to external storage?
What thoughts or suggestions do you all have?  Thanks.

Using the same media?  Very likely.
Using the same project file?  Possibly, but there could be issues.  PP can both import and export FCP XML files, but it's far from a perfect translation for every possible sequence.

  • Importing Final Cut XML Hangs Premiere Pro CC 2014

I am posting this more as a question as to how to report hangs or console reports of PP crashes.
I have a Final Cut Pro project that I wanted to migrate to Premiere Pro using the XML route. When I import the XML from Final Cut, the app hangs with a series of console messages. I think it can't import the DVCPro HD audio and many of the filters used in the Final Cut Project also cause this hang.
On import, a rectangle dialog box appears with no content in it - just a white box. Then the pinwheel of death.
Here are some of the console messages:
11/21/14 10:50:24.289 AM Adobe Premiere Pro CC 2014[1051]: Error loading /Library/Audio/Plug-Ins/HAL/DVCPROHDAudio.plugin/Contents/MacOS/DVCPROHDAudio:  dlopen(/Library/Audio/Plug-Ins/HAL/DVCPROHDAudio.plugin/Contents/MacOS/DVCPROHDAudio, 262): no suitable image found.  Did find:

This also generates an Adobe Premiere Pro hang log in the console system diagnostics.

Sort of a work around I am testing:
I have a cool script to open FCPro projects in AE. Sort of a free Automatic Duck.  I was going to do this:
Remove all effects and proprietary tracks in FCPro, as some cause problems with this script. Trial and error here.
Use the free script FCP2AE to export to AE (it's hard to find now)
Open the timeline in AE via the script FCP2AE
Export that from AE as PPProCC 2014 project
    Open in PPCC2014
That may work, it may also work just to remove all effects and then save the XML and open in PP CC 2014. Again sometimes it does work. The simpler the FCPro project the better.
    Another option
I was able to open the FCPro audio only OMF in Audition. Then I exported via XML FCPro format from Audition and this opened the audio tracks in PPCC2014. The stereo tracks were broken and placed on two mono tracks so you'll have to address that one.

  • Fast Cut Plugin for Premiere Pro?

Does anyone know of a plugin that can do fast cuts/editing?
I have a dance project coming up and it would be awesome if I could find a plugin that I could use for the sections in which I plan on doing some really fast cuts.

I don't know of such a plugin but what I usually do when I'm editing a music video and I want to cut to the beat is:
    1. I use markers to lay down my beats
    2. I have "Add Edit" mapped to a keyboard shortcut so that way I can make a cut with just the push of a button.
The cool thing about "Add Edit" is that it works during playback too so if I'm pretty good at figuring out where the beats are on the fly then I don't even need step 1.
    Hope this helps.

  • Import iMOVIE with sound? Export Final Cut Project to Pro Tools?

I am considering the 30 day free trial for Final Cut Pro X. I have a new Macbook Lion laptop.
I made a short film in iMOVIE 09 on my new laptop. I am getting it professionally scored next week. Can I seamlessly transfer iMOVIE project into Final Cut Pro X so that it keeps all my audio tracks? For example, I have natural background sound on many video clips. I have also added "monster" sound effects all over the place. I have voiceover here and there as well. So I am wondering if I import iMOVIE project to Final Cut Pro X are all the sounds merged (I don't want this) or does the project appear in Final Cut Pro X just like it does in my iMOVIE (video clip with a few audio clips under it)?
Second question - The audio post company would need to export the project from Final Cut Pro X to a software program called Pro Tools. There are a whole bunch of "preferences" needed to be checked off to make sure they get project the way it should be. However, my question is does anyone know if Final Cut Pro X is compatible with Pro Tools Software?
FYI - if I don't do the above I was told I need to make 8-9 copies of DVD of movie in iMOVIE. One would be video with natural sound when I filmed and all other sound turned off. Another DVD would be just voiceover sound and all other sound turned off etc... The audio post company needs each sound isolated so they can manipulate audio levels etc. This sounds like pain in butt which is why I am attempting to see if I can do the above.
    Thanks, Todd

Thank you all for help. Spoke to engineer at audio post company. I told him it sounds like that I can export iMOVIE project to Final Cut Pro X and keep audio tracks. However, I cannot export Final Cut Pro X project to Pro Tools. Hence, no point in moving iMOVIE project to Final Cut Pro X.
The engineer told me to make Quicktime files of the 4 minute movie with each different audio track. He said as long as the track does not overlap I can have multiple sounds... for example, if my voiceover occurs from 0 sec. to 30 sec and that is only sound then I can keep in a monster sound that occurs from 1 minute to 1 minute 30 sec. etc.
I did forget to ask him one question. One filmmaker noticed that I had stereo monster sounds and mono monster sounds. I would think most people would not notice difference but the filmmaker did. Not sure if this company can fix something like that?
Thanks again for all your help. The thing that is weird about all of this is if I buy the latest and greatest Final Cut Pro X and make my next project from scratch with it I still won;t be able to export using Pro Tools... Sounds like Pro Tools only works with Final Cut.

  • Can I export Final Cut Pro files to Final Cut Express?

Can I export Final Cut Pro files to Final Cut Express?

FCE only works with DV for standard definition and the Apple Intermediate Codec for HD. Most FCP projects cannot be opened in FCE.

  • I am traveling with my macbook pro and I forgot to install final cut express and quicktime pro before I left. How can I in a way download them for free on my laptop from where I am

I am traveling with my macbook pro and I forgot to install final cut express and quicktime pro before I left. How can I in a way download them for free on my laptop from where I am? I need them and don't want naturally to buy them again!!!
    Thank you

Assuming you purchased QT Pro, you can always download it again at no extra charge by logging in to your Apple account.
Regarding FCE, there is no way to download & install the product.  You need an original FCE install disk and your FCE serial number.
Final Cut Pro X (aka FCPX) can be purchased & downloaded from the App Store.

  • Is it possible to export Final Cut Pro X or .MOV to DVD Studio Pro (Final Cut Studio)?

Is it possible to export Final Cut Pro X projects or .MOV to DVD Studio Pro (from Final Cut Studio v.3)? I'm using the free trial of Final Cut Pro X and later acquired a copy of Final Cut Studio (FCP 7, Compressor 3.5, DVD Studio Pro 4, Color 1.5, Motion 4, Soundtrack Pro 2).
I don't like the default DVD export in FCPX, so I would like to do it on DVD Studio Pro. Is it possible to export the project or the final .MOV file to DVD Studio Pro?
Additionally, can I use unfinished FCPX projects on FCP7?
Is it possible to export from FCPX to Compressor 3.5 (Final Cut Studio)?
Feedback would be greatly appreciated. As of this post, I have about 13 days left on my FCPX trial. Or would it just make sense to just use Final Cut Pro 7, since I have a permanent copy of it?
    Thank you.
P.S. Where would be the best place to store projects or any other file related to Final Cut Studio or Final Cut Pro X? My MacBook Pro has 320GB built in storage (only 60GB available), and I have a 1TB external hard drive.
What is best to store on the Macintosh internal hard drive?
What is best to store on the external hard drive?

Yes you can make DVDs in DVDSP using video exported from FCPX.
There are some apps that will translate between X and 7- that said I would highly recommend not going back and forth as the translations are not 1:1 perfect.
I would recommend storing all Events and Projects on the External drive.
Compressor 3.5 will not accept exports directly from FCPX- you'll need Compressor 4 which is $49.
Totally up to you whether you want to make the jump to X. 7 is an EOL'ed program, meaning there will not be another version of that application. Final Cut Pro X is the version being actively developed now.

  • Options for exporting a project in Adobe premiere Pro CS5.5

When Exporting a project from Adobe premiere Pro CS5.5 I use the format of Windows Media file and Preset HDTV 1080P 30 HighQuality. At the bottom of the window there are some options that say "Use Maximum Render Quality" And "Use Frame Blending". I used these two options on my first video I exported but I want to know for the future what both of these options do exactly to my film and if they could adversely effect things like lighting and the frame rate of a clip or anything?

Max Render Quality does what is says: gives better picture quality, but will lengthen the export process.
Frame Blending you check when output framerate differs from timeline framerate.

  • A Final Cutter Tries Out Premiere Pro

I found this article on Creative Cow.  An interesting read and an overall good review for Adobe.
Most of the good things will come as no surprise to longtime Premiere users, and most of the bad things are not so if you're already used to the way Adobe organizes (though in a few cases, not bad homework for the Adobe development team)!  Enjoy.
    http://library.creativecow.net/kobler_helmut/FCP-vs-Premiere-Pro/1

Some highlights for the busy FCP-to-PP wannbe.
" I was impressed with how much further ahead Premiere was compared to Final Cut 7 (importing native footage, the Mercury Engine's high  performance, and tight integration with other must-have tools)."
"Premiere's overall layout is very Final Cut-esque."
"Adobe makes it easier for Final Cut users to try out Premiere, thanks to the inclusion of a template of keyboard shortcuts inspired by Final Cut"
"...it's very nice not to transcode media into ProRes."
"There's a dynamic Search field in the Project window.  That's a little quick erand easier than Final Cut's clunky Find... function.
"Adobe has gotten religion about metadata.   This is a nice improvement over Final Cut 7, which has virtually no inter-application metadata support (unless you're also using the now-cancelled Final Cut Server)."
"Premiere's editing tools work much like Final Cut's. All the essentials are there"
"If I had tried to do this effects-heavy work with After Effects and  Final Cut, I think it would have taken me an extra 2-3 days of  re-rendering and importing effects."
"When I imported a Photoshop file and edited it on Premiere's Timeline,  any changes I later made to the file would also automatically reflect on  the Timeline"
"I regularly uploaded small samples of my video to an FTP server for client review.  Fortunately, doing all that was just as easy with Premiere."
"When I exported video from Premiere or from the Adobe Media Encoder, both apps sped things up considerably by using all the cores of my 8-core Mac Pro. That was very nice, after years of watching Compressor ignore most of my Mac's horsepower."
"When you export video directly from Premiere or use Media Encoder, you can embed the exported videos with a ton of metadata.  Compressor can't touch that."
"I can definitely say that First Contact with Premiere was impressive and compelling. And beyond the application itself, I have  a lot more confidence in Adobe's ability to deliver professional  solutions than I do Apple's."

  • Problem sending timeline from Final Cut to a Soundtrack Pro Multitrack Project

    Hello,
Thank you in advance for reading.  I am having trouble sending a timeline from Final Cut to a Soundtrack Pro Multitrack Project.  Final Cut makes a new Soundtrack Pro project file just fine and opens Soundtrack Pro as it's supposed to, but the project in Soundtrack Pro only has a portion of my audio tracks.  I've tried sending by control clicking the sequence in the browser and selecting 'Send to Soundtrack Pro Multitrack Project' as well as highlighting my entire timeline and doing the same.  Both result in the same Soundtrack Pro proejct with about 1/3 of my total 48 audio tracks (lots of sound FX).
I'm using Final Cut 7.0.2 and Soundtrack Pro 3.0.1  My computer is a Macbook Pro running OS 10.6.8, 2.26 ghz intel core 2 duo, 4 gb ram.
Any suggestions (or workarounds, if it comes to that) anyone has will be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks again, Gabe

Try building the project to your desktop and then open the Video_TS in the Mac DVD player application.
How does it play/sound?  This application is the best way to see and hear how your burned DVD should play vs. just using simulator and burning.
Just to clarify- are you taking your FC QT file into Compressor and creating a MPG-2 and AC3 file or are you bringing your FC QT directly into DSP?
What codec are you exporting from FC? ProRes422, DV, H264?
Open the FC QT in QT and apple+I to see this.
What does it say for audio?

  • Is microsoft avi the highest quality format to export an avi file in premiere pro cs4?

    Hello,
I exported an avi file in premiere pro cs4 in media encoder using Microsoft avi format but the quality turned out poor on dvd, what's the highest quality format I can use?
    Please help
    Thanks
    Elio

    Elio,
As has been stated, DV-AVI is not the format FOR a DVD-Video. However, it can be used (and often is) as a transport medium into a DVD authoring program, like Encore.
Can you please outline your workflow from PrPro to the final DVD, and is it a DVD-Video (will contain MPEG-2 material in VOB "containers"), or a DVD-Data, that is then played on a computer with something like Windows Media Player, VLC, MediaPlayer Classic HC, etc.?
Good luck, and please let us know exactly what you are doing, and the programs used.

  • Ingesting xa20 slow motion footage into final cut 7 or premiere

does canon have step-by-step instructions for ingesting xa20 slow motion footage into final cut 7 or premiere?

    Hi davidframe!
    Thanks for posting.
Not having made those applications themselves, Canon does not have step-by-step instructions for bringing slow motion footage into Final Cut Pro or Premiere.  However, I am sure either Apple or Adobe have some helpful instructions they can provide if you contact them directly.
