Exporting Final Cut Pro files

I have a 4 1/2 minutes video I cut on Final Cut Pro and exported it as a Final Cut Pro video... it's 1Gb. How do I export that video into a format that I can upload to YouTube (has to be under 100 megs) without losing all the clarity of the original file? Everytime I try to export it to a smaller file size, it is horribly pixelated and looks like a crappy camera phone took the footage.... any help or suggestions would be appreciated

REALITY CHECK: Anytime you compress video the quality will suffer; the higher the compression, the lower the quality within any given codec. You cannot realistically expect to maintain "all the clarity of the original file." Period.

Can I export Final Cut Pro files to Final Cut Express?

FCE only works with DV for standard definition and the Apple Intermediate Codec for HD. Most FCP projects cannot be opened in FCE.

  • Is it possible to export Final Cut Pro X or .MOV to DVD Studio Pro (Final Cut Studio)?

Is it possible to export Final Cut Pro X projects or .MOV to DVD Studio Pro (from Final Cut Studio v.3)? I'm using the free trial of Final Cut Pro X and later acquired a copy of Final Cut Studio (FCP 7, Compressor 3.5, DVD Studio Pro 4, Color 1.5, Motion 4, Soundtrack Pro 2).
I don't like the default DVD export in FCPX, so I would like to do it on DVD Studio Pro. Is it possible to export the project or the final .MOV file to DVD Studio Pro?
Additionally, can I use unfinished FCPX projects on FCP7?
Is it possible to export from FCPX to Compressor 3.5 (Final Cut Studio)?
Feedback would be greatly appreciated. As of this post, I have about 13 days left on my FCPX trial. Or would it just make sense to just use Final Cut Pro 7, since I have a permanent copy of it?
    Thank you.
P.S. Where would be the best place to store projects or any other file related to Final Cut Studio or Final Cut Pro X? My MacBook Pro has 320GB built in storage (only 60GB available), and I have a 1TB external hard drive.
What is best to store on the Macintosh internal hard drive?
What is best to store on the external hard drive?

Yes you can make DVDs in DVDSP using video exported from FCPX.
There are some apps that will translate between X and 7- that said I would highly recommend not going back and forth as the translations are not 1:1 perfect.
I would recommend storing all Events and Projects on the External drive.
Compressor 3.5 will not accept exports directly from FCPX- you'll need Compressor 4 which is $49.
Totally up to you whether you want to make the jump to X. 7 is an EOL'ed program, meaning there will not be another version of that application. Final Cut Pro X is the version being actively developed now.

  • Xml tag defaults to Final Cut Pro file

I seem to be noticing that anything that is downloaded onto my Mac with an xml tag, ends up defaulting to a Final Cut Pro file. This has occurred on everything from music files, docs and pics, past and present.
Where and How do i change that (fix/correct) for all current and future files?
mac Mini Intel Duo   Mac OS X (10.4.9)

    Maxplanar, Thanks!!
never thought to just rename to .mov, it's always the simplest thing! i recently learnt about .dmg to .iso in certain cases, i never thought a simple suffix change like this would be the solution, just assumed FCP quicktime files were FC read only!
Many Thanks for the help, it should all be straightforward from now on!! as straightforward as any typical PAL > NTSC Conversion is anyway!!
    Cheers!

  • Can Final Cut Express open Final Cut Pro files?

I am wishing to edit a Final Cut Pro file that is saved to a hard drive, but I olny have Final Cut Express. Will I be able to open the Pro file with Final Cut EXpress? If not, is there any way I could open the file?

I did this, as instructed, but when I got home to see if my FCE would open the file, it didn't even recognize it as a standard file. When I tried to force it, it just brought up an error message. I do have all the related media files on my drive. Anything I'm missing here? Thanks so much!

  • Can Final Cut Express edit Final Cut Pro files

I have some Final Cut Pro files that I created while working for someone else, if I buy Final Cut Express, will I be able to open and edit them?
There basic files, nothing real fancy if that matters...
    Thanks!

Officially no. It may work, but you're rolling the dice. The newer the version of FCP the less likely it is to work.

  • Final cut pro files not present

I have a FCP project that I have been working on for a year and have made DVD's from through compressor. Suddenly when I open compressor it states that there are no files associated with this project.
Another user suggested I trash the preferences, but am loath to do this incase it makes things worse as I'm not very clued up on some of the systems functions.

I have posted twice today and am getting answers that don't make any sense to me. The problem occurs in Final Cut when I go to export a project with compressor, I get a message that there are no files associated with the project. Someone suggested I change my preferences, i didn't understand that and am wary to satrt fiddling around in preferences.
i have exported and burned this project to DVD several times before and now cannot???
Any more suggestions would be appreciated.

My assumption is this is a FCP 6 or 7 and the older compressor, right? Just to be sure that it is not FCP X and the new compressor! Though you posted here and the knowledge base is somewhere else, I will try to help as much as I know. You will need to save a compressor file to make compressor remember every setting you have done. Compressor doesn't simply remember this automatically. If you still have the FCP file with the associated media, you can easily re-export the project to compressor again and do it again. As a back, you should also consider a full quality export of your project, which you can then re-encoded to different formats. Hope this will help.

CCan you give more details? What camera did it come from? What do see in the import window? Maybe post a screenshot.

  • Export Final Cut Pro 7 project to open in FCP 6?

Is there any way to open a final cut pro 7 project in final cut 6?
We have a bunch of older Macs that won't run FCP7, but we use for training but our hope was to upgrade the newer machines to the new Final Cut Studio, but it would be great if we could create something on the newer machines, that we could transfer to the older ones.
We tried XML export, but it didn't look like it included filters and such, so we are wondering if there is any other way?

    Nope. no other way.

  • How should I move all of my Final Cut Pro files to an external drive?

My MacBook Pro doesn't have enough space to hold all of my Final Cut Pro X files (my internal hard drive is only 120GB), and I bought an external hard drive that has 120GB capacity too but want to move all of my FCP files to that drive. What exactly should I be moving? Do I move the application itself? And how do I tell FCP where to find all of my media? Sorry if it seems like a stupid question, I'm relatively new to Macs.
    Thanks!

The application remains in the Applications folder.
The best way is to copy the projects by duplicating them to the new drive. Do that from inside the application. Duplicate the projects with all referenced events. When all the projects and media have been copied and are working correctly then you can delete them from your internal drive.
Caution: make sure the media is actually in the events you're duplicating. If not, use the organize events function, or you will lose the media.

  • Are microsoft movie maker files compatible with final cut pro files?

I would like to know if microsoft movie maker files are compatible with Final Cut Pro?
    Thanks,
    elemir

depends on how you're outputting. .wmv I don't think so.That's pretty much a dead end format.  mp4 might be, but i'm not sure if movie maker outputs them. .avi might be, depends on the codec used.
Avoid .wmv, apple products don't play well with that format (never have) and aim for some other output type. Then on your mac, if you don't already have it, if you don't already have it, get the free converter mpegstreamclip and see if it can convert your movie maker output into something final cut will input. DV files are good, as are .mov files.

  • Bringing Final Cut Pro files in Express

Is there a way to convert files created in Final Cut Pro so they can be imported and edited in Express?

They're Quick Time Movies. A couple of people have mentioned that FCE is limited compared to Pro, but until I can afford to spend the money on FCP, I'm basically learning on a budget. It was suggested by a teacher that I get Express for home in the meantime. So for now it's the "better than nothing" plan.

  • Old Final Cut Pro Files

My wife made some video's in art school on the universities Final Cut Pro back in 2001. She copied all the files to CD. she currently wants to view these, but I am not sure if they are viewable.
Do I have to buy a copy of Final Cut Pro to figure this out?
The files mean a lot to her.

What happened when you opened them in the QT player on your Mac?
    Did they play or not?

if you want to see what your settings will get you, you'll need to make a .swf unless you have a flash authoring program, but this solution allows you to do this on your mac

  • Exporting Final Cut Pro Project to .wmv file format

I am a new apple owner and I am doing some editing on FCP. I would like to export my final project to a .wmv file format.
    What would you recommend?

Autodesk Cleaner's codecs haven't really been updated in a long time. At $599.00, its a lot to spend for old technology - as for their WMV encoding, they use the WMV 7 codec.
The flip4mac and Popwire programs do a much better job and are more compatible with newer versions of Windows Media Player.
Or, as David Bogie Chq-1 said, you can use the free Windows Media Encoder from Microsoft if you have a Windows system.
