Exporting Finished Project

Hi Guys
I've been using the trial version of the Master Collection to edit a wedding project, which I have found very powerful.
I had wanted to export an AVI to look at in its entirity in WMP, but I guess that's not allowed in the trial version (or have I missed a step or something?) When I go to export, my option are just "Media" (only the clip in the source window), "Adobe Clip notes" or "Export to EDL"(whatever that is?) The only other options (greyed out) are "export to tape" and "Title". Obviously I cannot export to Encore as that is disabled in the trial. I assume the full version contains some form of export movie option?
We had budgeted on buying the full version, so no real problems; it's just Adobe said the Trial had full capability except Encore (and we wanted to buy at the end of the month, when the trial expires rather than get the plastic melting away today - c'est la vie.)
Also I noticed in the export settings that no Mpeg 2 or 4 option exists. Does that mean I need an additional plug-in or are they in the full version?
Regards,
Graham

I've not run the trial--always had full versions installed--but I believe you're able to export to the more common container formats, like AVI or MOV. You should be able to export your edited timeline to an AVI by either 1) making the Timeline panel active (yellow outline), or 2) by selecting your sequence in the bin. Once you've done either of those, select File > Export > Media; this will open a window in which you select your export format and parameters. It will depend on what format you shot with originally, but if you used DV, for example, you'd select Microsoft AVI as the format and DV as the compressor/codec. Make sure your Work Area Bar is set the full duration of your sequence, or however much you want to export.
Again, I'm pretty sure the trial lets you export some formats, so someone else will have to confirm that...

  • Share/Export finished project to 4:3 format

I recorded video using the front face camera on my iPad 3 so it would be in 4:3 format.  It plays fine even when I play it on my Windows desktop.  I import these videos into iMovie to make a movie and all is well.  However when I go to save the finished project to the Camera Roll it plays as 16:9 with the 4:3 video pillarboxed.  I am doing this on the iPad 3 so I do not seem to have all of the options I read about in these forums that seem to be in the iMovie Apple/MAC editions, let me know if they are there somewhere else.
Is there a way to import 4:3 video and have iMovie retain the 4:3 aspect ratio (without the pillarboxing) when exporting to the Camera Roll?

No, iMovie only edits in HD.
HD is only in 16:9 aspect ratio.

  • Exporting DVD projects back to Sony DCR PC1000 camera

    Good evening Apple community
I've been having problems exporting finished projects back to my camera. Sometimes it works, but mostly it gets stuck. Is it possible to export back to an external dvd hard drive recorder? The model I have is a Pioneer DVR 520H.
Do I have to set the iMovie preferences to play back through the camera and then just hit the record button on my dvd recorder?
    Appreciate any help.

  • How can I export a finished project from iMovie when the "share" function will not respond?

Hopefully someone might have an answer for me. I am trying to export a finished project to You Tube. However, when trying to choose the file, it does not show up in the finished project list. I have gone back to iMovie to see if I've made a mistake with finalizing it. It seems to be finalized, but I cannot share it to anything (You Tube, Facebook, iTunes). I click on share and it does not respond. I click on File, scroll down to share, it does nothing. Has anyone else had this problem? How did you reslove it?

I experienced the same problem as mreingrover. The Share features of iMovie appear to be completely unimplemented.
I had had MacKeeper installed for a short while on my previous Mac; never on my new MacBook Pro. I could not find any trace of it in Application Support, Launch Daemons, or LaunchAgents, in either my user Library or the root Library. But I figured maybe there was some trace somewhere that had been copied over from the old system, so I deleted iMovie and went to reinstall it from the App Store.
Now the App Store wants $14.95 for an app that has never worked right, and which is (I think) supposed to be free with my new MacBook Pro Retina.

    Hello there, averypamby.
The following Knowledge Base article offers up some great information in regards to sharing/exporting your video in Motion:
Motion 5: Export a QuickTime movie
    http://support.apple.com/kb/PH16623
Export your project as a movie file
Choose Share > Export Movie (or press Command-E).
Choose an export format from the Export pop-up menu.
This menu provides a list of codecs.
Choose an option from the “Open with” pop-up menu:
Do Nothing: The movie is not opened after the export is completed.
Open with QuickTime Player: The movie is opened in QuickTime Player.
Open with Compressor: The movie is opened in Compressor (if installed on your system).
Choose an option from the Include pop-up menu: Video and Audio, or Video Only.
If you’ve set In and Out points in the Timeline, use the Duration pop-up menu to choose whether to export the sequence or the portion between the In and Out points.
To specify additional Motion-specific options, click Render.
For more information about options available in the Render pane, see Render settings.
To see details about the file to be output, click Summary.
    Click Next.
Enter a name and choose a location for the exported file, then click Save.
Motion renders and saves your movie.
Important:    The Export Movie command does not use background rendering, so you must wait until rendering is finished before you can continue to work in Motion.
Thanks for reaching out to Apple Support Communities.
    Cheers,
    Pedro.

  • TS4522 I have a finished project, but Final Cut Pro has grayed out the export option. How do I fix this to upload my file to youtube and burn dvds?

Hi guys, I really need help trying to figure out why Final Cut Pro will not allow me to export my project. I have done this in the past and had no problems at all with other projects, and I have done nothing different from what i can tell. Any help???

    Hey Tom,
Thankyou for your help. No, I have done this and it does not work. I have tried clicking and dragging, selecting the file in the project library, selecting individual files etc etc etc. The only thing that may have helped me out was last night...I clicked on a tab in FCP on the far right side (that must have something to do with exporting as well) and a small screen popped up after clicking it stating i cannot export the file while it is still referencing media off of the camera. I dont understand this either? I do have to have my camera connected before FCP will RECOGNIZE the media clips, but they have all been imported to my external hard drive and once i click import from camera, it is complete within seconds, so the hundreds of video clips i am using are obviously saved on there somewhere already....im at a loss here as to what to do. Do i have to literally download ALL MEDIA in each project to my computers hard drive before final cut pro will allow me to export any of the projects i create?? This seems like such backward thinking...I dont have nearly enough room on my computers intenal memory to do this with all my video clips!!!

  • Are there glitches in iMovie or iDVD that would create problems with viewing a finished project on a standard dvd player?

Everytime I render a new project in iMovie and share it with iDVD to produce a video, there always seems to be glitches in the finished project.  I have gone back and tried to recreate the slideshow, but have not had a whole lot of luck.  I am wondering if I need to delete the iMovie and iDVD applications from the computer???  If I do that will it fix my problem or will I even be able to redownload the programs without having to pay for them again?  I have spent more time and $$$ trying to get a viewable disc to burn and am ready to get rid of the computer altogether.  Hopefully that will not have to happen, but this is a constant issue that I go through everytime I work on a project.  Any suggestions???

    Hi
    Yes and No.
There are Bugs and ways to make better or Worse DVDs - see if this can help.
There are two "Bugs" (or at least one)
    • In iDVD - do not go back to video editing program - if You got Chapters set in Your movie - if You try - then now back in iDVD it will ask You to up-date ==> all Chapters will point to Chapter one. Medicine - create a brand new iDVD Project.
    • There MUST NOT BE any Chapter mark set in very beginning of the Movie - or in any transition or within 2 seconds from them.
    DVD quality
    1. iDVD 08, 09 & 11 has three levels of qualities. (version 7.0.1, 7,0.4 & 7.1.1) and iDVD 6 has the two last ones
    • Professional Quality
(movies + menus up to 120 min.) - BEST (but not always for short movies e.g. up to 45 minutes in total)
    • Best Performances
(movies + menus less than 60 min.) - High quality on final DVD (Can be best for short movies)
    • High Quality (in iDVD08 or 09) / Best Quality (in iDVD6)
(movies + menus up to 120 min.) - slightly lower quality than above
Menu can take 15 minutes or even more - I use a very simple one with no audio or animation like ”Brushed Metal” in old Themes.
    About double on DL DVDs.
    2. Video from
    • FCE/P - Export out as full quality QuickTime.mov (not self-containing, no conversion)
    • iMovie x-6 - Don't use ”Share/Export to iDVD” = destructive even to movie project and especially so
when the movie includes photos and the Ken Burns effect NOT is used. Instead just drop or import the iMovie movie project icon (with a Star on it) into iDVD theme window.
    • iMovie’08 or 09 or 11 are not meant to go to iDVD. Go via Media Browser ( AND AS MEDIUM - not HD etc as DVD then will suffer in quality ) or rather use iMovie HD 6 from start.
    3. I use Roxio Toast™ to make an as slow burn as possibly e.g. x4 or x1 (in iDVD’08 or 09  this can also be set)
This can also be done with Apple’s Disk Utilities application when burning from a DiskImage.
    4. There has to be about or more than 25Gb free space on internal (start-up) hard disk. iDVD can't
use an external one as scratch disk (if it is not start-up disc). For SD-Video - if HD-material is used I guess that 4 to 5 times more would do.
    5. I use Verbatim ( also recommended by many - Taiyo Yuden DVDs - I can’t get hold of it to test )
    6. I use DVD-R (no +R or +/-RW) - DVD-R play’s on more and older DVD-Players
    7. Keep NTSC to NTSC - or - PAL to PAL when going from iMovie to iDVD
(I use JES_Deinterlacer to keep frame per sec. same from editing to the Video-DVD result.)
    8. Don’t burn more than three DVDs at a time - but let the laser cool off for a while before next batch.
    iDVD quality also depends on.
    • DVD is a standard in it self. It is Standard Definition Quality = Same as on old CRT-TV sets and can not
    deliver anything better that this.
HD-DVD was a short-lived standard and it was only a few Toshiba DVD-players that could playback.
These DVDs could be made in DVD-Studio Pro. But they don’t playback on any other standard DVD-Player.
Blu-Ray / BD can be coded onto DVDs but limited in time to - about 20-30 minutes and then need
    _ Roxio Toast™ 10 Pro incl. BD-component
_ BD disks and burner if full length movies are to be stored
_ BD-Player or PlayStation3 - to be able to playback
The BD-encoded DVDs can be play-backed IF Mac also have Roxio DVD-player tool. Not on any standard Mac or DVD-player
Full BD-disks needs a BD-player (in Mac) as they need blue-laser to be read. No red-laser can do this.
    • HOW much free space is there on Your internal (start-up) hard disk. Go for approx. 25Gb.
less than 5Gb and Your result will most probably not play.
    • How it was recorded - Tripod vs Handheld Camera. A stable picture will give a much higher quality
    • Audio is most often more critical than picture. Bad audio and with dropouts usually results in a non-viewed movie.
    • Use of Video-editor. iMovie’08 or 09 or 11 are not the tools for DVD-production. They discard every second line resulting in a close to VHS-tape quality.
iMovie 1 to HD6 and FinalCut any version delivers same quality as Camera record in = 100% to iDVD
    • What kind of movie project You drop into it. MPEG4 seems to be a bad choice.
other strange formats are .avi, .wmv, .flash etc. Convert to streamingDV first
Also audio formats matters. I use only .aiff or from miniDV tape Camera 16-bit
strange formats often problematic are .avi, .wmv, audio from iTunes, .mp3 etc
Convert to .aiff first and use this in movie project
    • What kind of standard - NTSC movie and NTSC DVD or PAL to PAL - no mix.
(If You need to change to do a NTSC DVD from PAL material let JES_Deinterlacer_3.2.2 do the conversion)
(Dropping a PAL movie into a NTSC iDVD project
(US) NTSC DVDs most often are playable in EU
(EU) PAL DVDs most often needs to be converted to play in US
UNLESS. They are play-backed by a Mac - then You need not to care
    • What kind of DVDs You are using. I use Verbatim DVD-R (this brand AND no +R or +/-RW)
    • How You encode and burn it. Two settings prior iDVD’08 or 09
Pro Quality (only in iDVD 08 & 09)
Best / High Quality (not always - most often not)
Best / High Performances (most often my choice before Pro Quality)
    1. go to iDVD pref. menu and select tab far right and set burn speed to x1 (less errors = plays better) - only in iDVD 08 & 09
(x4 by some and may be even better)
    2. Project info. Select Professional Encoding - only in iDVD 08 & 09.
    Region codes.
iDVD - only burn Region = 0 - meaning - DVDs are playable everywhere
DVD Studio pro can set Region codes.
    1 = US
    2 = EU

What it turned out to be was the "quality" settings in iDVD. The total clip time was NOT over 2 hours or 4.7GB, yet iDVD created massive visual artifacts on the "professional quality" setting.
I switched the settings to "high quality" which solved the problem. According iDVD help, "high quality" determines the best bit rate for the clips you have.
I have NEVER seen iDVD do this before, especially when I was under the 2 hour and 4.7GB limits.
For anyone else, there seem to be 2 places in iDVD to set quality settings, the first is under "preferences" and the second under "project info." They do NOT seem to be linked (i.e. if you change one, the other is NOT changed). take care, Mario
to get this to work I
    • Secure a minimum of 25Gb free space on Start-Up (Mac OS) hard disk
    • Use Verbatim DVD-R (absolutely no +/-RW)
    • Set down burn speed to x4 - less burn errors = plays on more devices
    • No other process running in background as - ScreenSaver, EnergySaver OR TIMEMACHINE etc
    • and I'm very careful on what kind of video-codecs, audio file format and photo file formats I use
    • and I consider the iDVD Bug - never go back to video-editor to change/up-date - if so Start  a brand new iDVD project
    • Chapters set as they should - NO one at very beginning and no one in any transition or within 2 sec from it
    • Lay-out - Turn on TV-Safe area and keep everything buttons, titles etc WELL INSIDE not even touching it !
Try to break the process up into two stages
    • Save as a DiskImage (calculating part)
    • Burn from this .img file (burning stage)
To isolate where the problem starts.
Another thing is - Playing it onto a Blu-Ray Player. My PlayStation3 can play BD-disks but not all of my home made DVDs so to get this to work I
    • Secure a minimum of 25Gb free space on Start-Up (Mac OS) hard disk
    • Use Verbatim DVD-R (absolutely no +/-RW)
    • Set down burn speed to x4 - less burn errors = plays on more devices

    • Lay-out - Turn on TV-Safe area and keep everything buttons, titles etc WELL INSIDE not even touching it !
TO GET IT TO WORK SLIGHTLY FASTER
    • Minimum of 25Gb free space on Start-Up hard disk
    • No other programs running in BackGround e.g. Energy-Saver
    • Don’t let HD spin down or be turned off (in Energy-Save)
    • Move hard disks that are not to be used to Trash - To be disconnected/turned off
    • Goto Spotlight and set the rest of them under Integrity (not to be scanned)
    • Set screen-saver to a folder without any photo - then make an active corner (up right for me) and set
pointer to this - turns on screen saver - to show that it has nothing to show
    • No File Vault on - Important
    • NO - TimeMachine - during iMovie/iDVD work either ! IMPORTANT
    • Lot's of icons on DeaskTop/Finder also slows down the Mac noticeably
    • Start a new User-Account and log into this and iMovie get's faster too - if a project is in a hurry
    • And let Mac run on Mains - not just on battery

  • Exporting Motion project as FLV (Flash)

Does anyone know the best way to export a project as a FLV (flash)?
If that is not possible I think it should be added with the great things you can do to the online streaming.
    What does everyone think?

I figured that would be a way, but I was wondering if it could be done straight from Motion its self. I guess I will bring it straight back to FCP to do it.
I still think having that plug in part of motion is a great way to finish up a project that will be going to the web.

  • Only sound, when I export HDV project with Quicktime

I'm working with Final Cut Pro 5.0 (yes I know I have to upgrade) with material from HV 20.
When I export my finished project with the export to Quicktime opt. I can't watch the movie in Quicktime player, Itunes, VLC or MPEG Streamclip, only in FCP. The Sound is there but know picture.
since I do not yet have DVD Studio I know have a problem, since I cannot make a DVD out of it.
Or can I? Why is there no picture? How can I do it the best?
I also tried exporting it through compressor to H.264 and quicktime. That as well didn't work.
    Grateful for help!!!
    /David

Make sure that you have the current HDV codec present in your /Library/Quicktime folder. If you don't have the codec you will sound but no picture. The codec is automatically installed when installing FCS--but interestingly I had to manually install it from the FCS install packages using Pacifist when I upgraded to Leopard (on my PPC machine, the Intel one was OK).
Unfortunately Apple does not make the codecs available for download--which makes no sense. If you want to pass an HDV movie over to another machine you must manually install the Apple HDV Quicktime codec. I don't even know if Apple considers this some sort of violation of their License.

  • FCE finished project on iDVD photo & video quality now poor

Using FCE 2.0.3 iDVD 5.0.1 have done many movies/slide shows with great results. Newest movie, noticeably reduced quality of finished project, pixelated appearance, although I am using same cameras on the same settings! Recently clean install to v 10.0.8
Used mcjanitor, disk utility regularly and have no performance issues currently. Am puzzled why the quality issues?

The only thing absolutely different is that I've done a clean install of Tiger after experiencing a Tiger/Quicktime clash. Reinstalled FCE, Photoshop 2.0, iDVD and Comic Life. Those are basically the only programs I run on this machine.
I haven't changed the photo process, they are high quality jpeg edited in Adobe Photoshop Elements 2.0 then imported to FCE, as I've done before. Photo is 2.0 mb 1704 X 2272 shot on 4mp canon digital camera
iDVD setting best quality. But I've made a disc with both settings.
Tried 2 different types of discs Memorex and Verbatim which my other--good quality videos have been made from the same stack of discs.
Quick time version 7.1.3. I didn't know you need to set the preferences in there for a movie exported from FCE and burned to iDVD. I'll try that and burn another one.

  • Able to export idvd but getting error codes when I try to export my project any other way

I have created an iMovie using a variety of video files from a GoPro, Nikon DLSR and some iPhone clips. Additionally, there are a large number of stills and mp3 files used in my project. The video runs 42 minutes.
The only succesful 'sharing' I've been able to do is to iDVD. All attempts at exporting my finished project have resulted in error codes (~49, ~108 are the most common error codes).
I've read through a lot of threads but haven't been able to find the solution to my problem. I believe I have ample disk space and memory and fear that there is an issue going on with the organization of the files that is causing iMovie to lose its way during the export. I'm not running Time Machine which is a common solution I've seen in many threads.
Ideally I'd like to export an HD quality video to Vimeo so I can share it with relatives.
Thanks in advance for any help.

sound like the hard drive is starting to go out. you may want to contact Apple for service and repair options.

  • Audio not appearing in finished project

I have been working on a video project for a while now, going into extreme details to make a sort of music video. Once the visuals were complete, I added the music. However, after exporting the finished project as a video file, the music was absent, it was just the visuals. What has happened here? Can anyone help?
    Cheers

This can happen from time to time. Exactly what export settings did you use?
It seems to me that certain video codecs require certain audio settings, although QT allows you to make wrong choices. For instance, when I exported to AIC, I had to choose PCM to get audio. AAC gave no audio track exported. Conversely when I export to H.264, I have to choose AAC. PCM gave a blank.

  • Final Cut Pro X will not export my project - error 1

    Hello everyone,
So Final Cut is giving me a hard time. I have a project about 15mins long that I would like to export as a master file and it just doesn't want to work. When I first finished and tried to export, I was using verison 10.0.8. I would select master file for the export and it would just sit there, stuck on 0%. I then realized that I needed to update. I updated to 10.0.9 and tried to do the same thing again - no luck. Next, I closed final cut and trashed preferences. I then opened up and tried exporting again, same thing happened, stuck on 0%. Then I closed again and trashed preferences again. I opened final cut, turned off background rendering, and trashed project render files and event render files (as was suggested in another discussion for export problems). After doing that, I again tried to export - still nothing. At this point of course, I had trashed the render files, so I figured I should just let the project render again. I turned background rendering back on and opened my project - now it would not render! It was stuck on 0%! Okay so I closed and reopened again. I first tried to copy my whole project into a new project and try letting it render that way - nope, didn't work. So I closed and opened again. I turned off background rendering and started a new project. I pasted just a section of my video into the new project and manually rendered that section, which worked. So I pasted the rest of the video (in chunks) into the new project, manually rendering chunk by chunk. Finally I had my whole project again, and the whole thing was rendered. I tried exporting again and got the error 1 message, "The operation could not be completed because an error occurred when creating frame 373 (error -1).". This is my current state of affairs, and its driving me crazy. I just want to export my project!
    Please help....Thanks

Thank you. I found it now. This is a location where I did not expect this. I tried to do this using the GUI elements controlling how clips are displayed in the time line. I also was looking for a context menu item on the clip. I did not expect it in the preferences.

  • Exporting entire project to dv?

If I want to take a finished project and export to a single DV file for backing up and keeping for future use/projects, what setting should I use? It does have a few transitions and chapter markers but I'm fine losing those if I need to do so. I just want to be sure that this "project" is in one DV file in case they ever want to pull clips from it again.
    Thanks!

Oh, and a follow up question, if I'm giving them the DV files, the "raw" files, should I eliminate all titles/transitions and just give clip(s)? It's not the "movie" then but it's the raw footage for use again (with all its flaws, however).
I did play around with Quicktime Export, "Full Quality" - but I'm wondering how a file becomes 5.7 GB when it's 12.5 GB in the iMovie project? That sounds like I'm losing quality.
    Thx -
