Exporting for non-widescreen TVs

I exported a video to MPEG2-DVD then burned it onto a DVD. It plays perfectly on my TV. The problem is, my in-laws have an old, non-widescreen TV and the video is cut off around the edges. Is there any way to export specifically for non-widescreen TVs or to play the DVD I already made on their TV without it getting cut off?

I have CS5 (and I'm not there at the moment) but memory tells me there are two MPEG2-DVD settings... Widescreen and regular... I always use widescreen because my video is HiDef widescreen... I will **guess** that if you select the regular export setting your video will be formatted for a 4:3 TV

  • Export for non-expert print-shop?

My campus print shop has a color laser printer. The color quality is far from ideal, but for off-screen sorting-and-selecting work, the price is magnificent: 45 cents for 11x17 prints. The catch is that they don't know a lot about what they're doing; neither do I; so I'm coming here for advice.
I gave them a CD of JPG files I had exported from Aperture with the "JPEG- Original Size" preset (DPI at 72; sRGB profile, which is probably right). The images were a mix of portrait and landscape, and a mix of images that were originally JPG at 2816x2112 and images that were originally .CR2 at 3504x2332.
The prints came back with two kinds of errors. Some landscape shots (not all!) were rotated 90 degrees so the image was small and the top and bottom margins were enormous; this one doesn't worry me so much for sorting work. But many were severely cropped: the 11x17 sheet is filled, but filled with only about a third of the image. Typically, if not always, the image is landscape and the print is a portrait-oriented slice out of the center.
Both kinds of errors on both kinds of originals, JPG and CR2.
When we discovered the errors I stood there and watched the guy send some through. His software interface (some Windows "print wizard") allows for very, very little choice. I think we figured out how to solve the smaller problem, landscapes printed small as portraits with big top & bottom margins. And we solved the other, bigger problem of drastic cropping, on one test image, by opening it in Photoshop, setting the smaller-side size to 11 inches and the DPI to 300 and resampling and printing from there.
So I'm pretty sure I could solve it by going into Photoshop and using Image Size to specify the inch-dimensions and do any resampling required, saving the result as a JPG. But I also know this would take me a full day with a couple of hundred images.
Can anybody suggest how I might export directly from Aperture in some way that will be more nearly foolproof? (I don't mean they're fools; image manipulation isn't their job, just something their printer happens to do moderately well very cheaply.)

It may be the case that the printer software is
making best fit or best quality decisions prior to
printing. I would attempt to eliminate those
    decisions.
Yes, my conclusion exactly. That's what I'm trying to figure out how to do -- without specifying everything (print size in inches and dpi, which would require me to open each image in Photoshop).
If the printer handles paper in the portrait format
the first thing I would try would be would match that
and orientate my images all as portrait prior to
    exporting.
Well, it will do both -- just not always properly. Anyway, I can't turn an image that's portrait into landscape or vice versa without either getting quite a small image (which is one thing that sometimes happens now) or changing the image drastically (which would make the whole exercise pointless).
Also I would attempt to export the images by setting
pixel sizes that match as close as possible their
    paper dimensions and printer resolution.
That makes sense -- except that the only way I can see to do that is through Photoshop or something like it. One way to put it is that Aperture will do pixels but not inches. Quite properly; but a problem in this case. And whether specifying DPI in Aperture's export would do anything at all for the printer is anybody's guess.

  • Resolutions for Non-Widescreen Games on 30" ACD

Id like to know if there is a way to adjust resolutions so I can go above 1024*768 in Games that do not have WideScreen Choice. Monitor works Beautiful in the correct Dual-Link Port for Native Resolution, but on Games that do not have Widescreen Setting I notice it will not go above 1024*768 for in game Video settings.
Windows XP   FX-57,Dual 7800GT's,2 Gig Corsair Ultra-Low Latency

Ive had games like Warcraft 3 up to 2048x15-- and it fits very nicely on the 30in with black borders on the left and right side. Im thinking it depends on each individual game.
If your a bit more daring I know some games if you alter the config files you can sometimes get it to display widescreen and such. Theres a great forum www.widescreengamingforum.com that has tons of information on each game and how to get widescreen on it.

  • ITunes HD content for non-apple tvs now?

So now that Apple are well and truly plugging their mac mini as a great device to play movies through iTunes onto your HDTV, will they ever come to the real party and allow HD content for download onto non apple tv products?!
The mac mini is great but it's crippled as an iTunes device if you can't buy or rent HD content.

Purchasing HD content in countries other than the US is
based solely on licensing agreements with the studios
and not an Apple decision.  Streaming to devices is a
different license than delivering a permanent copy.  And
streaming can also be limited from one provider to the next.
Bottom line, the studios decide what Apple can or cannot
    sell or stream.

  • How can I get TV shows viewed through Hulu Plus on the Apple TV 3 to show as widescreen with black bands above and below the screen shot instead of chopping off the sides on my non-widescreen TV?

I just bought a new Apple TV 3 today so I can watch shows from Hulu Plus without having to physically plug in separate audio and video cables from my Macbook Air to the TV every time. I have a non-widescreen TV and when I normally watch Hulu Plus on the TV (though Safari on my plugged in Macbook Air as mentioned above), the entire wide screen shot is shown with black bands above and below the sceen shot since I am watching a widescreen program on a non-widescreen TV.
However, I noticed that when I watch the same show through Hulu Plus on my new Apple TV 3, the left and right edges of the shot are chopped off to make the program fill my non-widescreen TV. This bothers me because I would like to see the full shot and not just the chopped off middle portion. This is a real bummber because watching Hulu Plus without having to plug in my laptop is the only reason I bought the Apple TV. Is there anything I can do about this?
    Thanks!
(FYI: I have the very first Macbook Air that is not capable of mirroring)

How are you actually connected to the TV?  Does it have HDMI?  Most non-widescreen TVs would not.
I would suspect a converter is either not outputting properly, your TV not interpreting the signal properly or you have some form of Zoom setting enabled on the TV.
How does your TV handle widescreen from say cable or terrestrial TV sources ?
Unfortunately AppleTV is not designed to be used with non-widescreen TVs so there's no setting on AppleTV to tweak.

  • ARE documents for non exciseable goods

    Dear Experts,
If the finished goods is not exciseable then whether the followings documents are required in export sale and deemed export sale.
1.In  export sale- ARE 1 document
2 In deemed Export - ARE 3 document
    In general
    1. Is bond mandatory if we ship the goods to foreign customer.
    2. Is license mandatory in deemed export( For non exciseable product)
    Please clarify my doubts.
    Regards
    JP

    Hai,
Any material manufactured or taken out of the manufacturing unit/ Plant - you are suppose to charge the excise duty according to law.
So all the scenarios you asked will be excisable. If the plant is not a manufacturing unit and Trading unit, then i think the material can be exported with out excise duty.

  • What is the best setting for export movie in widescreen format?

Please tell me what is the best setting for exporting movie in Widescreen format?

Like in After effect we use "NTSC D1 Widescreen Square Pixel".,
Carefully examine the codec and pixel dimensions of that output file. That's certainly easy for an experienced VFX person like yourself.
Then carefully look over the presets in FCP to find the same attibutes. You can also use the online help system for FCP and search for "D1"
However, your question remains unanswerable because we don't know how you're getting to the monitor. What are you playing back you AE sequences on that displays them on your LCD? You're assuming we know what you're doing and, I assure you, we do not.

  • Settings for a widescreen project

    Hi all
I assume this is a basic question which the answer perhaps is still easier. I´m a Premiere basic user
I´m trying to make widescreen projects and use Encore to export a DVD which the video fits perfectly LCDs and Widescreen Tvs...So my workflow is:
I´m starting new projects using the DV-NTSC Folder > Widescreen 48khz
The imported videos come from a mix of 2 Panasonics AGDVC20P and 1 Sony HD1000. Sony HD1000 records 16:9 and Panasonics 4:3 (I use a little zoom at Premiere to fit the screen).
After finishing the Premiere I render the project and go File > Adobe Dynamic Link > Send to Encore. Make the menus and build a DVD.
But the problem is: I perceive on my TV the image looks like 16:9 but black stripes still appears up and down the image (tested on various tvs and the same).
    What Am I missing?
Should be a different size than 720x480 and Pixel aspect ratio 1,2121 as Widescreen DV profile set?
    Anything at Encore?
Thank you a lot for the help.
    Gustavo.

    Gustavo,
Your end result should be DVD, which is 720 x 480 NTSC or 720 x 576 PAL.
Use a SD widescreen sequence setting and downrez your HDV or let the camera do that for you by capturing SD format. If you have captured HDV, you can either downrez by using Motion/Scale to fit your SD resolution or use Scale to frame. The latter has a small drawback in that it will result in small black bars left and right, that will normally not show up when played on a TV.

  • Exporting For YouTube - Premiere Pro CS5 (Canon XL2)

I shot a promo video with my Canon XL2, and would like to upload the finished product to YouTube at the highest possible quality in order to help promote the company I work for.
Footage shot in 30p at 29.97 fps, 16:9 - NTSC.
Sequence settings are all correct and match my footage perfectly.
I have exported the video as H.264, AVI, MOV, MP4, MP2, WMV and countless other formats. When played on my computer the video quality is SUPERB. I am ecstatic at how it turned out, HOWEVER, when I upload the video -in any format- to YouTube, it looks absolutely horrible - as though it were shot with a webcam.
Does anyone have any advice as to what I might be doing wrong? Anyone had any experience with the XL-2 and Premiere Pro videos being ugly when uploaded to YouTube?
    Thanks a bunch!

Be very careful when using Adobe's presents for YouTube, Vimeo, etc.  They have a fixed frame rate but it doesn't always match your source frame rate and this adds additional render time and can drop or add (adding is much worse) frames.
The worst offender is a preset that is for non drop-frame 30.0 fps (instead of drop frame 29.97) because every 3 seconds 3 frames get added.
Also be aware that when exporting for the web (or most anything other than to DVD), you want to use square pixels.
This might require a bit of tweaking with the presets but it is well worth the effort.
864x480 is the square pixel equivalent to 720x480 widescreen (1.21...).
For more indepth info on the presets (and my rants on the matter) - have a look at my CS5 and C5.5 articles.

  • Edit Color Sync for Exports for Web Sites

    Hi,
Perhaps this has been covered, but I've not found the thread. Most of the export color sync questions seem to revolve around printing or displaying on one's own monitor. Neither is an issue for me. However, I note that my RAW images exported from Aperture 2.0 as jpg's and then uploaded to web sites such as Jalbum and Orkut are washed out. Some forums have suggested this is due to those websites being optimized for sRGB. I understand that Aperture uses a proprietary color sync profile; however, my default EXIF - Expanded shows "Color Model" as simply "RGB", and "Profile Name" is Adobe RGB (1998) (my Canon 50D is set to sRGB). Again, I have seen suggestions on this forum that one can change these settings, but the process appears to be only for printers and monitors. Where/how can I change the export for uploading jpg's to the web.
    Thanks,
    Nick

I understand that Aperture uses a proprietary color sync profile
If the profile were proprietary, it would be an illegal profile under the ICC Specification.
However, I note that my RAW images exported from Aperture 2.0 as jpg's and then uploaded to web sites such as Jalbum and Orkut are washed out.
If you did not disable embedding of an ICC source colour space in Aperture, if you did not use a non-ICC enabled browser, the OS X system level services will set up a ColorWorld and convert the pixels in your JPEGs matching from the ICC source colour space to the ICC destination colour space of your display. Thus you will get what you uploaded in the first place.
I have seen suggestions on this forum that one can change these settings, but the process appears to be only for printers and monitors.
The idea is that each and every colour device is calibrated and that calibration is captured in a colourimetric colour characterisation from which an ICC colour device profile is computed. Colourants that form certain colours one one colour device at one calibration will form other colours in the same colour device at another calibration and in other colour devices at yet other calibrations. By means of device profiles, the COLOURS can be kept constant while the COLOURANTS are recomputed to compel the device to paint the closest possible match it is capable of.
Some forums have suggested this is due to those websites being optimized for sRGB.
The issue is whether people who post pictures do or do not embed ICC source colour spaces into their pictures and whether they pick browsers that are ICC-enabled or pick colour blind browsers.
To determine if there is an embedded ICC source colour space in a picture, download the picture to disk, open iApple Preview and select Tools > Get Info > Summary.
Colour Model: This defines the format or model of the colourants, e.g. three component RGB, four component CMYK.
ColorSync Profile: This defines the ICC source colour space. If there is none in the image file, the system level service assigns the Generic RGB Profile for model RGB, the Generic CMYK Profile for model CMYK and so forth. Therefore, any ICC source colour space than a Generic Profile source colour space is embedded in the image file itself.
In technical terms, the rule is that to construct a ColourWorld that does a colour space conversion through the PCS Profile Connection Space, you have to have an ICC source colour space and an ICC destination colour space (typically your display profile). It follows that the system level service ASSIGNS an ICC source colour space automatically where is none embedded. The ICC source colour space that is assigned when there is none embedded is the Generic RGB Profile for colourant model RGB, as explained.

  • FCP 7 exporting for DVD, Image problems

    Hey,
New here so sorry if I'm a little slow with everything.  We shot some concert footage using 4 cameras, 3 cameras shot in 1440X1080 HDV 1080i60 and the other camera shot in AVCHD but was imported as 1440X1080 ProRes 422.  I edited the video in a sequence with settings of 1440X1080, field dominance of Upper (odd), and compressor HDV 1080i60.  I was trying to find a way to export for SD DVD in the best quality I could and found Ken Stone's site,
    http://www.kenstone.net/fcp_homepage/hdv_timeline_to_sd_dvd.html
It's worked for me on other projects. This project is a 2 1/2 hour DVD, so I tested that method on a minute of the footage and it didn't come out well just for one camera.  I followed Ken Stone's page and took the sequence and changed the settings to field dominance None, and compressor to ProRes 422.  Then I exported using quicktime conversion with settings of ProRes 422 HQ.  Once that file is exported I've been taking it to Compressor and using either DVD Best 90 Minutes or 120 Minutes.  On the max bitrate I don't go above 7.9 and on the average I'm usually around 6.7 for Best 90 minutes and 5.2 for Best 120 minutes.  Whenever I put the footage in DVD Studio Pro, the footage from the 3 cameras shot in 1080i60 look great but the footage originally shot in AVCHD has all sorts of lines and distortion on movement.  I'm just trying to find out if there is a better way for me to take my footage from final cut to SD DVD and still get good looking footage out of the original AVCHD footage.  I don't really understand why the footage from the AVCDD footage is coming out like that since it was imported as ProRes 422.  Any ideas on how to fix this?
    Thanks,
    Matt

Thanks a lot, this did the trick.
Yeah I'm doing a dual layer dvd, but I'm sending it off for replication so from what I've read it sounds like I have to build and format the dvd, then burn each Layer to it's own dvd.  Do you have any experience with this?  The break point is kind of confusing me right now because it sounds like just a lot of trial and error.
    Thanks again
    Matt

  • More trouble with exporting for web

    Alright,
Sorry to say but I am still having trouble converting/exporting my film trailer to the website for PC users to be able to access it.
I converted it to a quicktime movie film from FCP, which plays beautifully but apparently PC users can't see it still.
I have tried exporting to Compressor and tried every format there (mobile devices, web and so on...) they all came out pretty blurry.
Does anybody have a full proof plan for converting/exporting for website viewing (PC and Mac compatible)?????
P.S. It may help some of you to see the problem on the page http://www.inthelandofsmiles.com/Site/Film_Trailer.html
    THANKS IN ADVANCE!

I will second the Flash suggestion. Great a .flv file and play it on your site with a flv player. Some are more difficult than others to use.
NOTHING is fool proof with this kind of stuff. Flash has the highest install rate on all computers and is as close as you can get to fool proof. You can also put a link on you site to download the latest flash player. The other plus is that it tends to have the best results with low file sizes. This is what YouTube and similar sites use to play their video.
PS. I highly suggest this flv player... It's free for non-commercial use and almost free for other uses...

  • Target system install problem (SAPINST searching for Non unicode kernel)

    Hi,
I'm currently performing a unicode conversion (from 4.7 to EHP4). I am finished with the upgrade and I'm now in the unicode conversion part.
I have completed the export and selected unicode as the target system. I am done with source system uninstallation and I'm now installing the unicode target system.  I have selected unicode during the parameter selection (it's the default option anyway) but during the part where it will ask for the kernel DVD, it doesn't accept the path of my unicode kernel (and instead looks for the non-unicode kernel)

    Hi Markus,
Thanks for your response. This problem is now resolved. It turns out that there are some remaining files from the old /usr/sap/<> and /sapmnt/SID/exe that were not deleted yet (after uninstalling for non unicode system). I proceeded to delete again these files and ensure that there are no files from the non unicode system

  • BAPI for Non PO Invoice posting?

    Hi Experts,
I am posting invoices using BAPI_INCOMINGINVOICE_CREATE. These invoices have POs associated with the Item Details. This is working fine for me.
I want to post invoices that DO NOT have a PO. Can someone please point me to a BAPI that is similar to BAPI_INCOMINGINVOICE_CREATE in functionality but does not require a PO?
    Thanks,
    - Vik.

I too was looking for a BAPI for non PO invoice posting.  I found that the above counsel did not work for me.  Instead of creating a buyside invoice, it just created a journal entry.  What DID work for me was BAPI_ACC_INVOICE_RECEIPT_POST.
Below, I am pasteing the subroutines that I created for its calling.  In it, for my purposes, only the invoice amount is parameter driven.  My needs allowed all other BAPI parameters to stay the same.
I hope that this helps someone.

  • Perform an export for both ABAP & JAVA in one shot with WAS 640 SAPinst ...

    Hello,
I have to perform an OS/DB Migration of a SAP XI 3.0 (WAS640-SR1), an ABAP + JAVA addin configuration.
I would like to know if SAPinst for WAS640 (and SR1) could perform an export for both ABAP & JAVA in one shot as it seems possible in NW7.0 SAPinst version. None of the WAS 640 OS/DB migration guides gives these possibility.
And if not not, could U confirm that I have to perform 1st an export (with R3LOAD) of ABAB stack, then  an export (with JLOAD) of the JAVA one ?
And apply the same way for installation with R3load and JLOAD downloaded files ?
    Thks in advance
    Bernard Accoce

    Hi Bernard,
No, both exports cannot be executed in one single step. You have to execute the procedure twice, once for ABAP and once for Java, like you already mentioned yourself..
For the import applies the same.
    Kind regards,
    Mark
