Exporting for Soundtrack

I'm using FCE HD, 3.5.1. I've edited my sequence and want to export for Soundtrack to do a better mix of dialogue and music, etc. So, I select "Export>For Soundtrack". I then select to include audio and video, as well as All Markers. I've tried to do this both by selecting "Make Movie Self-Contained" and not selecting that. Everytime, I get a "Final Cut Express Movie" in the folder that I've selected. However, Soundtrack won't let me open the file. I've tried both opening through the "Open File" dialogue, as well as dragging the file from the finder over the Soundtrack icon on the doc. It will allow me to open it in Livetype, but not Soundtrack.
What am I doing wrong?

The few times I've used SoundTrack, I've just located the movie exported from FCE in SoundTrack's Browser window and dragged it into the Video window. What happens when you try that?

  • Export for Soundtrack cause Media to go Missing

I think that I have found a bug in the "Export to Soundtrack" function in FCE HD 3.0.
I was exporting a 10 minute sequence to Soundtrack (I had successfully exported the same sequence to Soundtrack about 30 minuntes earlier). An error appeared about a missing movie file (looked like a FIN render file). Then, one out of the ten source media files in the FCE project disappeared. It was there before the export and missing after the export. I tried to reconnect it but it has gone missing from the hard disk. It was on a second hard disk (I have never had a problem with this hard disk).
There is nothing unusual about the one media file that disappeared. I did not delete it, change its name or touch it in anyway. In fact, before the export for Soundtrack, I had just done a run right through a 10 minute sequence that contained clips from this source file and other source files (that were all in the same folder and unaffected by this problem).
A whole bunch of render files went missing at the same time.
To solve the problem, I had to recapture that one source media file and re-render the sequence.
This must be some intermittant bug in Soundtrack or FCE because I have been swapping soundtracks and video back and forwards between the two programs for the last couple of weeks without a problem.
Someone on the "emotionDV" forum reported the exact same problem.
How do you tell Apple about these kind of bugs?
    Regards
    Peter

    Tom,
    Thanks.
Once I recaptured the source DV tape into the same file name and location as the one that went missing, the problem was solved. But it wasted a couple of hours of my time and added a couple of grey hairs to my head...
I suspect that the bug may be something to do with the way that FCE and ST interact. In future, I might make sure that only one of these two applications are open at one time, quitting one before opening the other. I don't know if this will prevent the problem but it might.
I have reported the problem to Apple using the Feedback menu item as you suggest.
I am also about to upgrade to FCP and STP so maybe those newer "Pro" software will play together a bit better...
    Regards
    Peter

  • Can't open files exported for Soundtrack - I'm sure there's a simple fix.

I have a clip from a movie that I'm trying to score. Exported it for soundtrack as aif, wav and mp3 files. When I go to open them in ST, they're greyed out.
I just need one version to open.
    Any help would be appreciated.

Using ST 1.2 and FCP 4.0 on a G4 Powermac

I am not sure what you mean but try and get the sound track to iTunes then drag the file to the desk top and import from there. Is there sound on the clip now? Are you sure they are Aiff files? Maybe check when the soundclip is in iTunes.

  • Can't export to Soundtrack

Hi, thanks for any help with this.
I am running FCP 5.0.2 and Soundtrack 1.2.
I was just watching the Quick Tour video on the Apple site for some of the features of Soundtrack. On the video for "Noise Reduction" they showed how you can Control (right) Click your audio clip in FCP and select "Send To" > "Soundtrack Pro Audio File Project" where you can then make corrections to the audio and it's updated in FCP. When I highlight the audio clip in question and right click it and choose "Send To", my option for "Soundtrack Pro Audio File Project" is faded and I can't click it. My only options are the two below that, which were not used in the video.
Is my version of FCP not compatible with my version of Soundtrack? I also tried exporting the audio clip as an AIF and then importing that into Soundtrack but when I open Soundtrack and attempt to import the AIF file it is faded as well and I can't open it.
I have a lot of audio clips to clean up for a video project and I thought this would be easy. It's rarely as easy as in the demo videos but if anyone can think of something I can do please let me know.
    Thanks again.

You'll need Sountrack "Pro" for that

  • Missing Source files when exporting to Soundtrack and LiveType

An extremely frustrating "glitch" has occurred. When exporting to LiveType or Soundtrack, I receive and error message telling me that one or more of my source files are missing. I had been editing with these files in FCP 5 for the past few days with no problems. Initially I had no problem exporting to LiveType. Yet, today when I exported to Soundtrack Pro and subsequently LiveType, my source files just disappear. I have found some references to this issue in the discussions, but found no solution. If someone has found a solution since the last posting, please inform of it.

Export the clip using current settings.
Then open that in LT, and work with it independently.
Then export is and import it into FCP and use it to replace the original clip in the sequence.

  • Exporting from Soundtrack Pro - Trouble

I am having problems exporting from Soundtrack Pro. I haven't had these problems before.
I have tried to export a track to MP3 and to Compressor but all I get is the Exporting window and that's as far as it goes. It says, 'Time Remaining: Estimating...' but then that's it. I had even left it for a few hours and still nothing happened.
The program isn't frozen, just the export isn't working. Is this a common problem? Can it be fixed?
    Many thanks.

    I have the same problem...
I finished working on a project and when I tried to export it - it would start out just, tell me that it would be done in less than a minute and the just suddenly stop 1/4 of the way for no reason. Same thing happens whatever I do - in the same exact place. I spent a lot of time finishing this edit so I really want to get it back to FCP.
    Can anyone help?

  • Export from Soundtrack to Logic?

How can I export a Soundtrack project so that I can open it in Logic? Is there a way to do this as a single file without exporting all the Soundtrack tracks as individual files?

I suppose my question is more along the lines of what solution (I've purchased them all) allows you to Record and Edit multiple spoken tracks of audio?
    I've purchased:
    SoundTrack Pro
    SoundBooth
    Logic Express
    Audacity
and of course I've upgraded to iLife 09.
If one of these tools could allow you to select a section of audio from 1, 2, 3, or all tracks and delete it with a "Ripple Delete" option, then I'd be a happy guy.
    Right now:
GarageBand doesn't allow you to delete and shift-left "ripple delete".
As for Logic, I don't see ripple delete either.
SoundTrack does do this but it only allow me to edit one Track at a time--open them all, but edit one, then the other, then the other. Lots of flipping around.
With Audition (which is limited to Windows) I can select a section of 1, 2, 3, or all tracks, and delete that section, ripple or not.
FYI: "Ripple" is a Final Cut Pro term.
To be honest, no that I think about it... FinalCut Pro may be the best solution. Load everythign into it as separate tracks and have at it--at least it does it.
Remember, I'm not a musician, nor do I record music, only audio for podcasting. (but don't equate "podcasting" to Video-podcasting as most people do).
Anyway, my solution will be to load Virtual Box on the Mac. Record using Logic (which did a great job of recording onto multiple tracks) and then bring those AIF files into Adobe Audition under Windows in VirtualBox--or perhaps on a Networked PC.
Of course the other solution (and perhaps less painful) would be to simply abandon the Mac entirely and move all this stuff onto the PC and only use the Mac for FinalCut Pro work. What a huge disappointment that would be.

  • Edit Color Sync for Exports for Web Sites

    Hi,
Perhaps this has been covered, but I've not found the thread. Most of the export color sync questions seem to revolve around printing or displaying on one's own monitor. Neither is an issue for me. However, I note that my RAW images exported from Aperture 2.0 as jpg's and then uploaded to web sites such as Jalbum and Orkut are washed out. Some forums have suggested this is due to those websites being optimized for sRGB. I understand that Aperture uses a proprietary color sync profile; however, my default EXIF - Expanded shows "Color Model" as simply "RGB", and "Profile Name" is Adobe RGB (1998) (my Canon 50D is set to sRGB). Again, I have seen suggestions on this forum that one can change these settings, but the process appears to be only for printers and monitors. Where/how can I change the export for uploading jpg's to the web.
    Thanks,
    Nick

I understand that Aperture uses a proprietary color sync profile
If the profile were proprietary, it would be an illegal profile under the ICC Specification.
However, I note that my RAW images exported from Aperture 2.0 as jpg's and then uploaded to web sites such as Jalbum and Orkut are washed out.
If you did not disable embedding of an ICC source colour space in Aperture, if you did not use a non-ICC enabled browser, the OS X system level services will set up a ColorWorld and convert the pixels in your JPEGs matching from the ICC source colour space to the ICC destination colour space of your display. Thus you will get what you uploaded in the first place.
I have seen suggestions on this forum that one can change these settings, but the process appears to be only for printers and monitors.
The idea is that each and every colour device is calibrated and that calibration is captured in a colourimetric colour characterisation from which an ICC colour device profile is computed. Colourants that form certain colours one one colour device at one calibration will form other colours in the same colour device at another calibration and in other colour devices at yet other calibrations. By means of device profiles, the COLOURS can be kept constant while the COLOURANTS are recomputed to compel the device to paint the closest possible match it is capable of.
Some forums have suggested this is due to those websites being optimized for sRGB.
The issue is whether people who post pictures do or do not embed ICC source colour spaces into their pictures and whether they pick browsers that are ICC-enabled or pick colour blind browsers.
To determine if there is an embedded ICC source colour space in a picture, download the picture to disk, open iApple Preview and select Tools > Get Info > Summary.
Colour Model: This defines the format or model of the colourants, e.g. three component RGB, four component CMYK.
ColorSync Profile: This defines the ICC source colour space. If there is none in the image file, the system level service assigns the Generic RGB Profile for model RGB, the Generic CMYK Profile for model CMYK and so forth. Therefore, any ICC source colour space than a Generic Profile source colour space is embedded in the image file itself.
In technical terms, the rule is that to construct a ColourWorld that does a colour space conversion through the PCS Profile Connection Space, you have to have an ICC source colour space and an ICC destination colour space (typically your display profile). It follows that the system level service ASSIGNS an ICC source colour space automatically where is none embedded. The ICC source colour space that is assigned when there is none embedded is the Generic RGB Profile for colourant model RGB, as explained.

  • How to use old "Apple Loops for Soundtrack" with Garageband

Since Soundtrack (was part of FinalCut Express HD) doesn't work anymore (since some ProKit framework update) and was not part of the FinalCut Express 4 upgrade I used Garageband for sound creation and editing. But I missed some good loops from the old Soundtrack.
The Apple Loops for Soundtrack were still sitting on my harddisk but Garageband didn't recognize them in the Loop-Browser. Looking at the structure I found the Search Index files (/Library/Audio/Apple Loop Index/). I have two there, one for Garageband and another for iLife Sound Effects. Both are interpreted by Garageband. But no third for the old Soundtrack Loops. So I had a look at the Sound Loops installer DVD from FinalCut HD and there I found a similar structur and copied the Index file to the location of the two indexes mentioned above. I left the Loops for Soundtrack where they are (also could edit the index file for new locations, but that's a 7.5MB text file) and now Garageband knows their location and also lists the loops at the right categories inside the Loop-Browser.
Maybe that helps someone, even if I didn't find a topic about it here.

Ah.. ok, then never mind. Just didn't find any information about how to use the old soundtrack loops with garageband and so I did some thinking on my own. And if it works that easy, the better it is

  • Hi, I have small problem, for some time in music area I had two folders to use 1. Apple loops for soundtrack pro 2. Final Cut pro sound effects now both are gray and with out content may I know what happend

I just went through this and it appears that my Focusrite Saffire was the culprit. I connected all the outputs on the focusrite according to the way the jacsk on the back were labeled and then set up the multichannel speaker setup to match. Then I went into STP, created a pink noise clip and panned it around, the LFE, center and rears were not in the right place.
I reconnected the hardware to match the 5.1 pan pot in STP then changed the multichannel speaker setup to match. Everything appears to be correct now but I would have loved to have been able to just assigned the output busses to correct outputs in the saffire.
Next step is to pan that pink noise around with my SPL meter to calibrate the room.

  • Export for web doesn't work (X and 7).

I use the export for web feature a lot.  I find that I have to bounce back and forth between Quicktime 7 and X because sometime this feature will work and sometimes it doesn't.  There's no consistent reason I can figure out why the applications will or will not work properly.  On some occasions I get some small 8Kb file.  On other occasions, I only get the audio.
    Any ideas?

Uhh, the system requirements for Photoshop CC state you need 2 GB RAM, 8 GB recommended. This is likely your problem.

  • Strokes on appearance is getting cut off when exporting for web & Devices

I'm a screen print artist using Adobe Illustrator CS5 in windows 7(blah!) to export images of our customers' artwork into a huge folder of images on a server. The images are then loaded into a program so that they can be viewed company-wide and by the customer.
Occasionally, when there is an appearance applied to text it seems to cut off the tops and/or bottoms of the outermost stroke. This seems to be only happening to text, and happens randomly and is very annoying. See the image attached.
it does this with both JPEG and PNG images, and whats more, changes when you adjust the image size. it either gets better or worse. I have to change the image size on every export so that they are all within our size requirements.
I have found that if you put the art into an envelope with all the settings at 0 and then export for web it prevents this from happening. However, that isn't very efficient as i need to be moving a ton of artwork a day, and I am not the only person who may be working on the Illustrator file.
Is there any setting either in illustrator or windows that may be causing this anomaly?

    Try adding:
Effect >> Path >> Outline Object
So  your type will still be editable
If that does not work you may want to:
    Type: Create Outline
I only had this problem once before, on some snickerdoodle cookies package, and that was a script font. Might be related to the font you use.

  • FCP 7 exporting for DVD, Image problems

    Hey,
New here so sorry if I'm a little slow with everything.  We shot some concert footage using 4 cameras, 3 cameras shot in 1440X1080 HDV 1080i60 and the other camera shot in AVCHD but was imported as 1440X1080 ProRes 422.  I edited the video in a sequence with settings of 1440X1080, field dominance of Upper (odd), and compressor HDV 1080i60.  I was trying to find a way to export for SD DVD in the best quality I could and found Ken Stone's site,
    http://www.kenstone.net/fcp_homepage/hdv_timeline_to_sd_dvd.html
It's worked for me on other projects. This project is a 2 1/2 hour DVD, so I tested that method on a minute of the footage and it didn't come out well just for one camera.  I followed Ken Stone's page and took the sequence and changed the settings to field dominance None, and compressor to ProRes 422.  Then I exported using quicktime conversion with settings of ProRes 422 HQ.  Once that file is exported I've been taking it to Compressor and using either DVD Best 90 Minutes or 120 Minutes.  On the max bitrate I don't go above 7.9 and on the average I'm usually around 6.7 for Best 90 minutes and 5.2 for Best 120 minutes.  Whenever I put the footage in DVD Studio Pro, the footage from the 3 cameras shot in 1080i60 look great but the footage originally shot in AVCHD has all sorts of lines and distortion on movement.  I'm just trying to find out if there is a better way for me to take my footage from final cut to SD DVD and still get good looking footage out of the original AVCHD footage.  I don't really understand why the footage from the AVCDD footage is coming out like that since it was imported as ProRes 422.  Any ideas on how to fix this?
    Thanks,
    Matt

Thanks a lot, this did the trick.
Yeah I'm doing a dual layer dvd, but I'm sending it off for replication so from what I've read it sounds like I have to build and format the dvd, then burn each Layer to it's own dvd.  Do you have any experience with this?  The break point is kind of confusing me right now because it sounds like just a lot of trial and error.
    Thanks again
    Matt
