Exporting for Web VS exporting for DVD

So here's the story:
I am pretty familiar with exporting my movies for the web and stuff like compression, etc but I was just asked to burn some of my movies for DVD distribution. As stupid as I am, I sent those guys the files that I use for web distribution and of course I get a reply that goes something like this: "This isn't DVD quality. We need the full movie file, highest quality/bit rate, frame rate, de-interlaced versions of the movie."
Can someone help me understand what that means??
If I were to export the movie uncompressed I might as well give up right now. It's all HD. I won't be able to fit even one of my movie files on the biggest hard drive.
Does anyone know what "the highest quality/bit rate, frame rate" etc. means? I feel like a retard right now.
Thanks for your help!

Assuming you are using Final Cut Express, your best bet is to create a master DVD and have a good service provider duplicate the disk.
In FCE, do the following:
Make sure everything is rendered:
*Sequence > Render All > Both*
*Sequence > Render Only > Mixdown*
Then save your project.
Export to QuickTime Movie (not QuickTime Conversion)
UNcheck the option called "Make Movie Self-Contained"
Check the option to Include chapter markers (if you have chapter markers in your sequence)
Save
Then import the resulting QT reference movie into iDVD and build your DVD project. Burn the finished project to disk and give it to the duplicators.
If that's not acceptable to them then you should
1) find another duplication house that will do the work or
2) get the exact specifications from them as to what they require; if this is the case you will probably need to get an external hard drive that you can use to save the project for them.
What is the exact nature of your source video? HDV? AVCHD? Something else? Do you have mixed formats in your sequence?

  • Artboard name and save for web or export

Hi when saving for web or exporting an artboard is there any way to pre-populate the save file name dialog box with the artboard's given name. It would save having to re-name the file and make good use of that metadata.
    Thanks in advance

There is a way, but you have to use file >> export >> jpg.
Worked great for me here where I have my artboards named the flavor, and when asked for fielname used "a".

  • Error message - image exceeds size save for web was designed for

When I try to Save to Web in Illustrator CS3, I get the following error message: "the image exceeds the size save for web was designed for". Even when I click that I want to go ahead and save it, it sends another error that reads "could not complete this operation. the rasterized image exceeded the maximum bounds for Save for Web".
Earlier in the day yesterday, I saved for web with no issue. NOw, it doesn't matter how small my design is, it is giving this error.
    Please advise.

    > So in CS3 Save for Web grabs the Artboard, neither the artwork nor the Crop Area/Marks area?
Creating a new document using "Basic RGB Document" and then "Save for Web & Devices" crops either to the artboard or to the artwork as selected from the "image size" tab in the save-for-web window.
If your artwork extends beyond the artboard, selecting "clip to artboard" will obviously eliminate everything outside the artboard. Unchecking it will crop the image to the artwork in the file (and thankfully not any artwork that is hidden).
If you make crop marks in the file, you can choose to either clip to the artboard or not. Not will clip to the crop marks, acting as kind of a secondary artboard.
    ETA:
You can choose which type of on-screen file type you want your output to be. From GIF, JPG, PNG-8, PNG-24, SWF, SVG, and WBMP. And whether or not you want transparency in those formats that support it.

Looking for web(http) frontend for MySQL

The second url is correct, only that the parenthesis became a part of it. Try http://developer.mimer.com , but it doesn't have anything to do with MySQL anyway.
You can always look at Sourceforge (http://sourceforge.net/softwaremap/trove_list.php?form_cat=68 to brows among database front ends).

  • Prepping a Sequence for Web/and EXporT

Any link or answer to this- i'm preparing a 2 minute trailer for web. what are the settings necessary in final cut to prepare for the quicktime export. Also once in a quicktime format what should the export settings coming out. currently have final cut hd we want a relatively fast download time for accessing but want not to sacrifice too much quality. thanks for any help.

But...can h.264 be viewed on most computers?
No. QT7 h264 is not very well pentrated yet. All iPod/iTunes users have it but few business machines will have it. Furthermore, many larger companies don't allow employees to install it even if they need it.
For Quicktime content, I can reach the broadest audience with Sorenson 3 compression. It was introduced in QuickTime 5 a long time ago. If I want to go a bit more recent, I use the 3ivx version of MP4 compression. Download the free 3ivx plugin at 3ivx.com. This works on any computer that supports MP4 but it looks better than the Apple mp4 CODEC.
MPEG-1 is the most universal web video format, but the filesize will be about 3x bigger than anything more modern.
WMV-9 is also a popular way to post video. At the risk of being run off this forum, I'll just say that it's market pentration is vastly wider than QuickTime and the quality is comparable to MP4. I use an affordable QuickTime plugin called Popwire WMV-9 Export 1.1 to export directly to this format from Final Cut.
Also don't rule out Flash Spark video format. Users of Flash 8 Plugin can view this format and I know there are many machines with this capability. You need flash pro to do this format.

  • Export for Web using optimized for "download" or "streaming"?

    Hi,
Exporting for Web have some setting there,i'll choosing the .mov - H264 - and medium low quality - 15 Frame Rate - Checked Frame Reordering, others Automatic and the Audio will be 32.000hz and Mono.
Now,what about the optimizing? Download or Streaming?
What about Self-Contained Movie? do i need it?

optimizing for download or streaming depends on what sort of site you're sharing it on. Will it be streamed or a download file?
It must be self-contained, unless you are going to be streaming it, and hosting it from the machine that the original media is on. Even then I'm not sure that would work reliably.

  • Sharpening for web against sharpening for print

I am new to lightroom and I am trying to establish a workflow for processing my raw images.
I want to accomplish 2 things in regards to sharpening.
After doing all color corections I want to sharpen the image for:
    1. web view
    2. print through for example mpix service
If i sharpen something for the web view to my liking , how should i export the image for printing?
Where should i add any extra sharpening if any?
What is the best way to accomplish the sharpest image? (assuming it was done in camera correclty in the first place)
    thx

Output sharpening for web or print is done in the export dialog. Just choose the particular use. The output sharpening in LR is an excellent tool as it takes into account the size of the file and gives various choices based on particular paper types. You would use sharpen for screen for the web image and sharpening for print for the print...two separate exports as you would also be changing the export sizing smaller for web, obviously. You can also use the print module and print to jpg appling the required sharpening in that module.
If the image requires any creative sharpening over and above what is applied by default then this is done using the sharpening tools in the develop mode and entirely separate process than the export sharpening. Use with caution as over sharpening is an easy mistake to make, ensure you view the results in LR at 1:1 and if applying a lot of creative sharpening do not over compress when exporting the file.

  • Save for web and devices for slices

I am using CS 5.5.  I have an image that I used the slice tool with.   Sliced about 15 slices.  In my action script, I do all the steps including the slicing and then I go to save for web and devices, choose png format, click save and in the save distination I just put it on the desktop. Close the file and hit stop.  I see that that image created the images folder with all the slices in it.   So I then I run a batch script on the folder that contains about 300 images and I want to  use those slices.  I run the script and nothing appears in the output folder.  It shows that it does all the steps but nothing is showing in the folder.  Is there a step i'm doing wrong?  Please help!

    Window >> Layer comps
Set this up, and with one click you will be able to toggel whci layers are on or off.
Out of curiosity, are you programming pages with CSS, dynamic layers or other? You cannot layer slices with transparency on top of each other in standard html. I find it so time consuming and impossible to get things registering correctly for all browsers, so try to minimize any layering technologies.

  • Certification for WEB COMPONENT DEVELOPER FOR J2EE[tm]

    Hi all,
I'm thinking of getting certified as a
WEB COMPONENT DEVELOPER FOR J2EE[tm] PLATFORM.
What is your experience? How do I prepare best for the exam?
Any book / tutorial particulary useful?
    Thanks for your input!
    Anja

For what its worth, I found this the easiest of the certifications (compared to Programmer and Developer). My 2 cents of advice includes:
    - Use the Sun objectives as the driver for your study. Review the objectives thoroughly and make detailed notes by section. http://www.javaranch.com/scwcdlinks.jsp has some good examples of this (plus a lot of other useful stuff). The exam is a bit of a memory test - you need to know details of the deployment descriptor, the taglib definition, listeners, the API etc.
    - Take the time to read the servlet and JSP specifications. Although on first sight these are large documents, much of them is reference material and they can be read in a couple of hours. They will help in making the detailed notes.
    - Go over the servlet API for the key methods.
    - If you've not been working with servlet/JSP technologies, read a good book on servlets / JSPs for general background.
    - Try a few mock tests, although there are far fewer available than for JCP. Avoid the ones that charge a fee - I found them less than helpful.
    - This is probably just me, but be careful if you book the test via the web. I did just that, and when I turned up at the test center they had never heard of me. Follow-up with a phone call to the actual center to ensure that they are expecting you.
    Good Luck!

  • Save for web not working for .PNG?

When I slice up a .psd file and then go file > save for web and select to save the images as .png it does not work for some reason. No matter what I select it only uses jpeg. I am using Photoshop CS2.
    Any suggestions?

As Zeno said, file format selection is per slice, not a global override. Select al lslices, then pick the PNG options.

  • Exporting to PNG vs "Save for Web" in Illustrator CC

I am creating small logos for a website in Illustrator CC (one is 135px x 50px), and the quality of the output has been a bit sketchy: not blurry or pixelated, but the text is messy and uneven while previewing in Acrobat as part of a larger PDF, and when previewing the logo by itself (I also previewed it in a browser with HTML to get the same unclear image).
The images have been exported to PNG and JPG at 72 PPI.
When I experimented with the "save for web" option (File>Save for Web), voila! It fixed the issue! I noticed in the dialogue box for "Save for Web" that it saved as a PNG-24, an option not available to export (you can only export to PNG)
My question is: is there a difference between "save for web" and exporting that I should know about before I continue to save ALL my images via the "Save for web" option? It seems strange that the best way to save an image (PNG-24) wouldn't be an option under Export (you can only export to PNG). Why can't I export to PNG-24 in Illustrator?
    Thanks for any advice.

You can save with different color depth, export, it chooses automatically the higher depth when you choose transparent, and the lower depth when you choose a background color.

  • [CS5][Save for Web][Anti-aliasing] Fine lines in exported PSD with adjustment layers

    Hello,
You can reproduce the bug this way:
    - link a PSD with a adjustment (Levels, Brightness/Contrast) layer in your AI file
    - Save for Web, with AA for Art (not text) selected
In the exported image there will be artefacts, white lines usually.
Flattening the PSD or deleting the adjustment layers will solve the problem and anti-aliasing will be applied correctly.
I used CMYK/RGB settings, FOGRA39/Adobe RGB 1998 for all the files involved.

    Hi,
I am experiencing this same problem of pixelated gifs when I use the "save for web" dialog from Illustrator, but this solution has not worked for me. I have tried the trick of using type-optimized anti-aliasing, but it doesn't change the output at all. I've done this from within the "Image size" tab as well as through Effect>Rasterize>Options)Anti-aliasing: Type Optimized. My image is a logo made entirely from text, although for some of it I used "outline path", so I'm not sure if it still qualifies as text...I'm a newbie at this stuff, so the technical details are still quite opaque to me.
Does anyone know of a solution to this that does not require me to add Photoshop to my workflow?
    I'm using Illustrator in CS5, version 15.0.2.
    Thanks in advance
    Jonathan
