Exporting for Website Development in Dreamweaver

I am having some problems exporting my website layout that I created in Fireworks CS4 for development in dreamweaver.  I read all of the adobe tutorials on slicing and exporting but I think the problem is that I have something set up wrong with the pages, the vertical navigation menu and the rollover effects of the vertical nav. menu.
Here is a quick overview of my site layout followed by the problem that I am having:
1. Transparent background
2. Master page + 12 other pages
3. Rectangular header, body, footer and right side panel.
4. For the left side panels I have 2 mis-shaped objects that I designed in Fireworks. (this is the area of the export problems).  On top of the mis-shaped panels on the left side of the page are rectangles which have text on top of them.  I have the rectangles and text functioning as navigation buttons with rollover effects.  When I test them the rollover effect displays correctly and when I click them it takes me to the correct page that they are linked to.  The problem is when I export the mis-shaped side panels and the nav buttons with their rollover effect.  No matter how I have applied the slice, something goes wrong.  The 2 most common problems that I have after export are as follows:
1.  The mis-shaped background panels are no longer gradient (they are solid blue) and the mis-shaped panels are rectangles and the buttons work but do not have a rollover effect.
2.  When I place a slice over the mis-shaped panels and the buttons, the panels look the same after exporting but the buttons no longer function or have a rollover effect.
Please help...all I want to do is have the 2 mis-shaped panels with their buttons and the rollover effect function on all 13 pages after export.  Could someone please tell me how I have to export them and if I should have a master page set?  I would appreciate it if someone could include what I should and should not have selected for the export options.
Thank you in advance for anyone that can explain this to me.

This tutorial may explain on how to get a Fireworks comp into Dreamweaver.
You need to slice all the images separately, including the background images as Linda mentioned,  You would use the background images to be called in via a stylesheet.

You are seeing the default CF error template as the result of an untrapped exception. You should use either the cferror tag in your application.cfm or the onerror event in your application.cfc and display your own user friendly page (as well as log and/or email an alert indicating the error so you can fix the actual error the triggered the error template). This may seem vague but error trapping is a complicated topic and this thread will get too long for anyone to read. Start by researching CFERROR and "coldfusion error handling"

  • Exporting for website

    Hello
Can someone tell me the best setting to export a clip of a person speaking that will be put on their website. I shot the clip in HD. The settings Im using is below. Although it looks OK, its not crystal clear. Any suggestions?
    H264
    Current, 24 Frames, High Quality
    Filter-Sharpen (4)
    Size-Custom 640x480
    Sound IMA 4:1
    Sample Size 22.050

For starters, your aspect ratio is wrong. Click on the option to make your video 16:9 Try 640 X 360. Take the filters off unless the original needs it.
How in focus is the original as viewed at 100% size or externally on a HD set? Garbage in, garbage out as they say. You should Color Correct the clip before you export it to anything other than HDV too BTW. Will make a difference in the apparent quality in the end for sure.

  • Multiple Image/Photo Galleries for Website Development

    Hi All,
I am just getting into web dev and working on first production site.
One of the requirements is to implement a Photo Gallery which has multiple albums, but is also able to be managed by an end-user (rather than web team update).
Site is currently all html (no server-side tech) so I am hoping someone can recommend an approach.
    Cheers
    David

    Hi
Try using something like this http://jqueryui.com/tabs/ to place each separate gallery in its own div
As for the error, where exactly are you getting that?
    Kind Regards,

  • More trouble with exporting for web

    Alright,
Sorry to say but I am still having trouble converting/exporting my film trailer to the website for PC users to be able to access it.
I converted it to a quicktime movie film from FCP, which plays beautifully but apparently PC users can't see it still.
I have tried exporting to Compressor and tried every format there (mobile devices, web and so on...) they all came out pretty blurry.
Does anybody have a full proof plan for converting/exporting for website viewing (PC and Mac compatible)?????
P.S. It may help some of you to see the problem on the page http://www.inthelandofsmiles.com/Site/Film_Trailer.html
    THANKS IN ADVANCE!

I will second the Flash suggestion. Great a .flv file and play it on your site with a flv player. Some are more difficult than others to use.
NOTHING is fool proof with this kind of stuff. Flash has the highest install rate on all computers and is as close as you can get to fool proof. You can also put a link on you site to download the latest flash player. The other plus is that it tends to have the best results with low file sizes. This is what YouTube and similar sites use to play their video.
PS. I highly suggest this flv player... It's free for non-commercial use and almost free for other uses...

  • Moving DreamWeaver website development back and forth between a laptop & desktop?

Ok, let's say that I've installed DreamWeaver on my laptop and desktop machines.
I am developing a website on the laptop:  I've created a template, and generated all the children webpages from that template.
When I update the template - all the children webpages of that template update!  (( This is one of the most powerful features of DreamWeaver, IMO ))
Now I have decided to move the entire website development over to the Desktop - that mean all the files and folders, as well as the DreamWeaver information regarding the Template and the children webpages that were developed from that template...
    How do you do this?
    Thanks for any help.

It is an external HD, yes, but a "portable" HD... I have also tried just the external HD but found it very bulky and I always had to lug around the power supply and cords for the HD. Google "portable hard drive passport 500gb"... for example... that's what I use.
    http://www.google.com/products/catalog?hl=en&sugexp=pfwl&tok=o-MzmA7RWsR0_HVA9BIvtg&cp=32& gs_id=2n&xhr=t&q=portable+hard+drive+passport+500gb&gs_upl=&bav=on.2,or.r_gc.r_pw.,cf.osb& biw=1176&bih=861&wrapid=tljp1327460600580060&um=1&ie=UTF-8&tbm=shop&cid=116127269428491234 13&sa=X&ei=DHEfT9G5Goeq2gWr2umRAw&sqi=2&ved=0CJgBEPICMAE#
I had originally set up my client files on my desktop... those files not only included the Web site files, but ALL related communication, content, development files (images, videos, Flash). Nothing worse than being away from home and realizing I'd forgotten to take the photo/text/video development files with me. So I just copy/pasted the ENTIRE client file on the the portable drive... which included any DW site files. Now you may have to adjust some drive names (D:, L:, J: or whatever.) but you can hot swap back and forth and always carry the current version with you to whichever computer you are on
A "portable" HD rather than just an "external"...which may need it's own power supply, means that you can hot swap the HD, just like a thumb drive.... only a heck af a lot BIGGER!
....But during testing and set up... always keep a complete backup of ALL files until you get your particular set up working.
    Best wishes,
    Adninjastrator

  • Websites - Export for browsers not compatible with Flash

    Hello,
The export of websites in Flash format is great and gives the opportunity to use nice transition effects for example. But I see several downsides:
    1. It's not possible to view the site with browsers that don't support Flash.
    2. It's not possible to use the navigate by using the back and forword buttons.
    3. The referencing in search engines may not be as easy as with a non-Flash website.
It would be a great option to be able to decide for the publishing of websites between the current option (with Flash) and second one not using Flash.

Thanks for the feedback! We will put into our feature requests database.
Thanks again for helping us shape the future of Project ROME

  • GeoRaptor 3.0 for SQL Developer 3.0 and 2.1 has now been released

    Folks,
I am pleased to announce that, after 5 months of development and testing, a new release of GeoRaptor for SQL Developer 2.1 and 3.0 is now available.
GeoRaptor for SQL Developer 3 is available via the SQL Developer Update centre. GeoRaptor 3 for SQL Developer 2.1 is being made available
via a download fro the GeoRaptor website.
No release notes have been compiled as the principal developer (oops, that's me!) is currently busy doing real work for a change (another 3 weeks), earning a living
and keeping the wolves at bay. More extensive notes (with images) will be compiled when I get back. (Unless anyone is offering! See next.)
We are still looking for people to:
    1. Provide translations of the English dialog menus etc.
    2. Write more extensive user documentation. If you use a particular part of GeoRaptor a lot and think
you have found out all its functionality and quirks, contact us and offer to write a few pages of
documentation on it. (Open Office or Microsoft Word is fine.) Easiest way to do this is to simply
make screen captures and annotate with text.
    3. Conduct beta testing.
Here are the things that are in the new release.
    New functionality:
    Overhaul of Validation Functionality.
    1. User can specify own validation SELECT SQL as long as it returns three required columns. The SQL is thus totally editable.
    2. Validation update code now allows user to associate a PL/SQL function with an error number which is applied in the UPDATE SQL.
    3. UPDATE SQL can use WHERE clause of validation SELECT SQL (1) to update specific errors.
NOTE: The generated UPDATE statement can be manually edited. It is NEVER run by GeoRaptor. To run any UPDATE, copy the statement
to the clipboard and run in an appropriate SQL Worksheet session within SQL Developer.
    4. Main validation table allows:
       a. Sorting (click on column header) and
       b. Filtering.
       c. Copying to Clipboard via right mouse click sub menu of:
          - Geometry's SDO_ELEM_INFO array constructor.
          - SDO_GEOMETRY constructor
          - Error + validation string.
       d. Access to Draw/Zoom functions which were previously buttons.
       e. Added a new right mouse click menu "Show Feature's Individual Errors" that gathers up all the errors
it can process - along with the ring / element that is host to the error (if it can) - and displays
them in the Attribute/Geometry tabs at the bottom of the Map Window (where "Identify" places its results).
The power of this will be evident to all those who have wanted a way of stepping through errors in a geometry.
       f. Selected rows can now be deleted (select rows: press <DELETE> key or right mouse click>Delete).
       g. Table now has only one primary key column, and has a separate error column holding the actual error code.
       h. Right mouse click men added to table menu to display description of error in the new column (drawn from Oracle documentation)
       i. Optimisations added to improve performance for large error lists.
    5. Functionality now has its own validation layer that is automatically added to the correct view.
Access to layer properties via button on validation dialog or via normal right mouse click in view/layer tree.
    Improved Rendering Options.
    1. Linestring colour can now be random or drawn from column in database (as per Fill and Point colouring)
    2. Marking of SDO_GEOMETRY objects overhauled.
       - Ability to mark or LABEL vertices/points of all SDO_GEOMETRY types with coordinate identifier and
option {X,Y} location. Access is via Labelling tab in layer>properties. Thus, coordinate 25 of a linestring
         could be shown as: <25> or {x,y} or <25> {x,y}
       - There is a nice "stacked" option where the coordinate {x,y} can be written one line below the id.
       - For linestrings and polygons the <id> {x,y} label can be oriented to the angle between the vectors or
edges that come in, and go out of, a vertex. Access is via "Orient" tick box in Labelling tab.
       - Uses Tools>Preferences>GeoRaptor>Visualisation>SDO_ORDINATE_ARRAY bracket around x,y string.
    3. Start point of linestring/polygon and all other vertices can be marked with user selectable point marker
       rather than previously fixed markers.
    4. Can now set a NULL point marker by selecting "None" for point marker style pulldown menu.
    5. Positioning of the arrow for linestring/polygons has extra options:
       * NONE
       * START    - All segments of a line have the arrow positioned at the start
       * MIDDLE   - All segments of a line have the arrow positioning in the middle.
       * END      - All segments of a line have the arrow positioning in the END.
       * END_ONLY - Only the last segment has an arrow and at its end.
    ScaleBar.
    1. A new graphic ScaleBar option has been added for the map of each view.
       For geographic/geodetic SRIDs distances are currently shown in meters;
For all SRIDs an attempt is made to "adapt" the scaleBar units depending
on the zoom level. So, if you zoom right in you might get the distance shown
as mm, and as you zoom out, cm/m/km as appropriate.
    2. As the scaleBar is drawn, a 1:<DEMONINATOR> style MapScale value is written
to the map's right most status bar element.
    3. ScaleBar and MapScale can be turned off/on in View>Properties right mouse
       click menu.
    Export Capabilities.
    1. The ability to export a selection from a result set table (ie result of
executing ad-hoc SQL SELECT statement to GML, KML, SHP/TAB (TAB file
adds TAB file "wrapper" over SHP) has been added.
    2. Ability to export table/view/materialised view to GML, KML, SHP/TAB also
added. If no attributes are selected when exporting to a SHP/TAB file, GeoRaptor
automatically adds a field that holds a unique row number.
    3. When exporting to KML:
       * one can optionally export attributes.
       * Web sensitive characters < > & etc for KML export are replaced with &gt; &lt; &amp; etc.
       * If a column in the SELECTION or table/view/Mview equals "name" then its value is
written to the KML tag <name> and not to the list of associated attributes.
         - Similarly for "description" -> <description> AND "styleUrl" -> <styleUrl>
    4. When exporting to GML one can optionally export attributes in FME or OGR "flavour".
    5. Exporting Measured SDO_GEOMETRY objects to SHP not supported until missing functionality
in GeoTools is corrected (working with GeoTools community to fix).
    6. Writing PRJ and MapInfo CoordSys is done by pasting a string into appropriate export dialog box.
Last value pasted is remembered between sessions which is useful for users who work with a single SRID.
    7. Export directory is remembered between sessions in case a user uses a standard export directory.
    8. Result sets containing MDSYS.SDO_POINT and/or MDSYS.VERTEX_TYPE can also be written to GML/KML/SHP/TAB.
       Example:
       SELECT a.geom.sdo_point as point
         FROM (SELECT sdo_geometry(2002,null,sdo_point_type(1,2,null),sdo_elem_info_array(1,2,1),sdo_ordinate_array(1,1,2,2)) as geom
                 FROM DUAL) a;
       SELECT mdsys.vertex_type(a.x,a.y,a.z,a.w,a.v5,a.v6,a.v7,a.v8,a.v9,a.v10,a.v11,a.id) as vertex
         FROM TABLE(mdsys.sdo_util.getVertices(mdsys.sdo_geometry(2002,null,null,sdo_elem_info_array(1,2,1),sdo_ordinate_array(1,1,2,2)))) a;
    9. A dialog appears at the end of each export which details (eg total) what was exported when the exported recordset/table contains more
than on shape type. For example, if you export only points eg 2001/3001 from a table that also contains multipoints eg 2005/3005 then
the number of points exported, and multipoints skipped will be displayed.
    10. SHP/TAB export is "transactional". If you set the commit interval to 100 then only 100 records are held in memory before writing.
However, this does not currently apply to the associated DBASE records.
    11. SHP/TAB export supports dBase III, dBase III + Memo, dBase IV and dBase IV + Memo.
Note: Memo allows text columns > 255 characters to be exported. Non-Memo formats do not and any varchar2 columns will be truncated
to 255 chars. Some GIS packages support MEMO eg Manifold GIS, some do not.
    12. Note. GeoRaptor does not ensure that the SRID of SDO_GEOMETRY data exported to KML is in the correct Google Projection.
Please read the Oracle documentation on how to project your data is this is necessary. An example is:
        SELECT OBJECTID,
               CODIGO as name,
               NOME as description,
               MI_STYLE,
               SDO_CS.TRANSFORM(shape,'USE_SPHERICAL',4055) as shape
          FROM MUB.REGIONAL;
    13. NOTE: The SHP exporter uses the Java Topology Suite (JTS) to convert from SDO_GEOMETRY to the ESRI Shape format. JTS does not handle
circular curves in SDO_GEOMETRY objects you must "stroke" them using sdo_util.arc_densify(). See the Oracle documentation on how
        to use this.
    Miscellaneous.
    1. Selection View - Measurement has been modified so that the final result only shows those geometry
       types that were actually measured.
    2. In Layer Properties the Miscellaneous tab has been removed because the only elements in it were the
Geometry Output options which have now been replaced by the new GML/KML/etc export capabilities.
    3. Shapefile import's user entered tablename now checked for Oracle naming convention compliance.
    4. Identify based on SDO_NN has been removed from GeoRaptor given the myriad problems that it seems to create across versions
and partitioned/non-partitioned tables. Instead SDO_WITHIN_DISTANCE is now used with the actual search distance (see circle
in map display): everything within that distance is returned.
    5. Displaying/Not displaying embedded sdo_point in line/polygon (Jamie Keene), is now controlled by
       a preference.
    6. New View Menu options to switch all layers on/off
    7. Tools/Preferences/GeoRaptor layout has been improved.
    8. If Identify is called on a geometry a new right mouse click menu entry has been added called "Mark" which
has two sub-menus called ID and ID(X,Y) that will add the labeling to the selected geometry independently of
what the layer is set to being.
    9. Two new methods for rendering an SDO_GEOMETRY object in a table or SQL recordset have been added: a) Show geometry as ICON
and b) Show geometry as THUMBNAIL. When the latter is chosen, the actual geometry is shown in an image _inside_ the row/column cell it occupies.
In addition, the existing textual methods for visualisation: WKT, KML, GML etc have been collected together with ICON and THUMBNAIL in a new
       right mouse click menu.
    10. Tables/Views/MViews without spatial indexes can now be added to a Spatial View. To stop large tables from killing rendering, a new preference
has been added "Table Count Limit" (default 1,000) which controls how many geometry records can be displayed. A table without a spatial
index will have its layer name rendered in Italics and will write a warning message in red to the status bar for each redraw. Adding an index
which the layer exists will be recognised by GeoRaptor during drawing and switch the layer across to normal rendering.
    Some Bug Fixes.
    * Error in manage metadata related to getting metadata across all schemas
    * Bug with no display of rowid in Identify results fixed;
    * Some fixes relating to where clause application in geometry validation.
    * Fixes bug with scrollbars on view/layer tree not working.
    * Problem with the spatial networks fixed. Actions for spatial networks can now only be done in the
schema of the current user, as it could happen that a user opens the tree for another schema that
has the same network as in the user's schema. Dropping a drops only the network of the current connected user.
    * Recordset "find sdo_geometry cell" code has been modified so that it now appears only if a suitable geometry object is
in a recordset.  Please note that there is a bug in SQL Developer (2.1 and 3.0) that causes SQL Developer to not
register a change in selection from a single cell to a whole row when one left clicks at the left-most "row number"
column that is not part of the SELECT statements user columns, as a short cut to selecting a whole row.  It appears
that this is a SQL Developer bug so nothing can be done about it until it is fixed. To select a whole row, select all
      cells in the row.
    * Copy to clipboard of SDO_GEOMETRY with M and Z values forgot has extraneous "," at the end.
    * Column based colouring of markers fixed
    * Bunch of performance improvements.
    * Plus (happily) others that I can't remember! If you find any bugs register a bug report at our website.
If you want to help with testing, contact us at our website.
My thanks for help in this release to:

Finally, when at the Washington User Conference I explained the willingness of the GeoRaptor Team to work
for some sort of integration of our "product" with the new Spatial extension that has just been released in SQL
Developer 3.0. Nothing much has come of that initial contact and I hope more will come of it.
In the end, it is you, the real users who should and will decide the way forward. If you have ideas, wishes etc,
please contact the GeoRaptor team via our SourceForge website, or start a "wishlist" thread on this forum
expressing ideas for future functionality and integration opportunities.

    Thank you for this.
I have been messing around with this last few days, and i really love the feature to pinpoint the validation errors on map.
I has always been so annoying to try pinpoint these errors using some other GIS software while doing your sql.
I have stumbled to few bugs:
    1. In "Validate geometry column" dialog checking option "Use DimInfo" actually still uses value entered in tolerance text box.
I found this because in my language settings , is the decimal operators
    2. In "Validate geometry column" dialog textboxs showing sql, doesn't always show everything from long lines of text (clipping text from right)
    3. In "Validate geometry column" dialog the "Create Update SQL" has few bugs:
    - if you have selected multiple rows from results and check the "Use Selected Geometries" the generated IN-clause in SQL with have same rowid (rowid for first selected result) for all entries
Also the other generated IN clause in WHERE-clause is missing separator if you select more than one corrective function
    4. "Validate geometry column" dialog stays annoyingly top most when using "Create Update SQL" dialog

  • Exporting InDesign CS4 file to Dreamweaver

I am in the process of trying to figure out the best way to get my organizations print newsletter onto our website to view as html. I have a good knowledge of Dreamweaver but I am struggling on this one. We create & send our newsletter to print as an InDesign file and while trying to figure out what to do through reading tutorials I found the "Export for Dreamweaver" option, after days of searching I thought this was going to be it. Although, once I clicked and "okay'd" everything I got an error. Exporting "file name" as XHTML failed. The file it is looking for I've moved several times to try to get it to "create", it's just a picture file but I'm not sure where I've gone wrong. I'm the only one in the organization who does any design work so I have no one to ask. Please help. Thank you in advance for anything!

Nice one Bob, way to help out.
    KLeeBone:
    Did you try:
In InDesign select File>Export for Dreamweaver
Save this file in a new folder.
Then open the file you just saved in Dreamweaver. This assumes that you assigned styles in InDesign and that you use CSS in your website.
Link your new document to your website's style sheet.  You will have to go through and replace code since Dreamweaver will show your style names from Indesign, but find and replace will help that process along a little bit. It's still a lot of manual adjusting of code, but it will accomplish what you are trying to do.

  • Fast website development?

I'm primarily a print designer, but more of my clients are requesting web-based solutions. I've designed about 10 websites total, but all of them were done with GoLive, for which I received professional training. Although I own Dreamweaver CS5, my working knowledge of this application is very limited.
Having said that, here is my problem. I need to quickly design a simple 10 page website for a client and I only have about a week to do so. I'm concerned that the learning curve for Dreamweaver is going to be too steep for me to be able to do this on short order.
Since the only working knowledge I have of a website development program is GoLive, am I better off jumping into Dreamweaver or using a simpler website development program like Rapidweaver or Freeway? I understand that both of these applications can't import existing code, but since I'm starting from scratch that shouldn't be a problem.
However, if I should choose to use Rapidweaver or Freeway for the initial development, I would like the option of being able to import the existing code into Dreamweaver at a later time with little or no modification. Is that possible?
Any help or advice is greatly appreciated.

It depends on your level of knowing css and html how long it will take to get up to speed in DW. And your level of patience when running into the DW walls and limitations... (yes folks, there are limitations in DW compared to GL, particularly when it comes to site management).
There is a GL to DW user forum at Adobe where you might find some information.
You can also consult the oldest GoLive community on the internet here http://glhlists.com/golive - which is the old community from the former Blueworld GoLive List, whose participants many have converted from GoLive to DreamWeaver and have the experiences and knowledge you might need. The community will always be ready to answer your questions and sort out the frustrations you will run into. Plus provide links to good free sources.
There are of course differences between GL and DW - particularly when it comes to site management and the UI - but in principle they do the same things only differently and for some things with other names on certain features. Adobe has lots of good information online that you can use too even if the specific info about Gl to DW is hard to find nowadays.
There are some free - but a bit old - resources too, like the following:
http://www.communitymx.com/abstract.cfm?cid=1069E - which is a tutorial in 9 parts for Dramwever for GoLive Users.
http://layersmagazine.com/the-golive-to-dreamweaver-conversion-kit.html - which as an article in Layers Magazine from when the dath of GL was announced.
http://www.adobe.com/designcenter/dreamweaver/articles/drwcs3_golivemigration.html# - tutorials about using the migration kit but can be used also if not using the migration kit
http://www.mindgraffiti.net/gl2dw-faq-for-common-problems/- FAQ for common problems when migrating
http://www.astonisher.com/archives/ripvanwinkle4.html#15000 - old but partly useful. A 9 step checklist when migrating.
http://www.adobe.com/devnet-archive/dreamweaver/golive_migration/content/using_gmk_extensi on.html - about the migration kit, but it has useful links at the bottom of the page.

  • Edit Color Sync for Exports for Web Sites

    Hi,
Perhaps this has been covered, but I've not found the thread. Most of the export color sync questions seem to revolve around printing or displaying on one's own monitor. Neither is an issue for me. However, I note that my RAW images exported from Aperture 2.0 as jpg's and then uploaded to web sites such as Jalbum and Orkut are washed out. Some forums have suggested this is due to those websites being optimized for sRGB. I understand that Aperture uses a proprietary color sync profile; however, my default EXIF - Expanded shows "Color Model" as simply "RGB", and "Profile Name" is Adobe RGB (1998) (my Canon 50D is set to sRGB). Again, I have seen suggestions on this forum that one can change these settings, but the process appears to be only for printers and monitors. Where/how can I change the export for uploading jpg's to the web.
    Thanks,
    Nick

I understand that Aperture uses a proprietary color sync profile
If the profile were proprietary, it would be an illegal profile under the ICC Specification.
However, I note that my RAW images exported from Aperture 2.0 as jpg's and then uploaded to web sites such as Jalbum and Orkut are washed out.
If you did not disable embedding of an ICC source colour space in Aperture, if you did not use a non-ICC enabled browser, the OS X system level services will set up a ColorWorld and convert the pixels in your JPEGs matching from the ICC source colour space to the ICC destination colour space of your display. Thus you will get what you uploaded in the first place.
I have seen suggestions on this forum that one can change these settings, but the process appears to be only for printers and monitors.
The idea is that each and every colour device is calibrated and that calibration is captured in a colourimetric colour characterisation from which an ICC colour device profile is computed. Colourants that form certain colours one one colour device at one calibration will form other colours in the same colour device at another calibration and in other colour devices at yet other calibrations. By means of device profiles, the COLOURS can be kept constant while the COLOURANTS are recomputed to compel the device to paint the closest possible match it is capable of.
Some forums have suggested this is due to those websites being optimized for sRGB.
The issue is whether people who post pictures do or do not embed ICC source colour spaces into their pictures and whether they pick browsers that are ICC-enabled or pick colour blind browsers.
To determine if there is an embedded ICC source colour space in a picture, download the picture to disk, open iApple Preview and select Tools > Get Info > Summary.
Colour Model: This defines the format or model of the colourants, e.g. three component RGB, four component CMYK.
ColorSync Profile: This defines the ICC source colour space. If there is none in the image file, the system level service assigns the Generic RGB Profile for model RGB, the Generic CMYK Profile for model CMYK and so forth. Therefore, any ICC source colour space than a Generic Profile source colour space is embedded in the image file itself.
In technical terms, the rule is that to construct a ColourWorld that does a colour space conversion through the PCS Profile Connection Space, you have to have an ICC source colour space and an ICC destination colour space (typically your display profile). It follows that the system level service ASSIGNS an ICC source colour space automatically where is none embedded. The ICC source colour space that is assigned when there is none embedded is the Generic RGB Profile for colourant model RGB, as explained.
