Exporting Frames as Pictures

Alright, I might be missing something basic here, I am pretty comfortable with final cut express but all I want to do is export a single frame of me skiing and use it as a picture. Is there a way this can be done with either final cut, or if neccessary, I Movie?

I've tried this, but for some reason, all my exported stills get saved in 720 x 480 format, even though the aspect ratio of my footage is and should be 640 x 480. The result is that the still image is stretched horizontally. This is driving me nuts because I can't seem to find a setting or preference to change this. What am I doing wrong?

  • How do I extract still from my videos. The options near the controls includes an option to export frame to pictures, but I click it and nothing happens.

How do I get a still frame from a video in the new photos app?

The secret is in the description "Export Frame to Pictures".
After you click this, look in your top-level "Pictures" folder for the file, such as "Frame-14-04-2015-09-26-59.tiff".
You can then "Import" this file back into Photos.

  • Cannot Export JPEG still picture from MPEG

I am trying to use Quicktime Pro 7.1.3 to export a still picture (in JPEG format) from an MPEG video, but this is not working. I followed the directions in the QTPro User Guide: I play and then pause the video once it reaches the desired frame. Then I select FILE->EXPORT and in the "Export" selection box, I select "Movie to Picture". Then I click on the "Options" button, and select the Compression Type of "Photo - JPEG". I must say I am puzzled as to why I then see a ".PCT" extension added to the filename. Also, I don't understand why, in the "Save as" selection field, there is no selection for "JPEG" file extension, and instead there is but a single type available which is called "All Files (.)". It makes me think I am not understanding how to use this function. After I click on the "Save" button, a small popup windows appears, and it shows that a file is written. When I try to open that file (on my local hard drive) with my Firefox browser, I get a plain text message in my Firefox screen which merely names the file. I also tried specifying other compression formats under "Export to Picture", and also tried using Firefox and other programs to open the files written by this Export operation, all without success.
If I use s different Export operation (Export to BMP instead of Export to Picture), I can get a usable BMP, and I can use another tool to convert this BMP to a JPEG, but the resulting JPEG is only a little over 30k in size, and I believe I am getting a lot lower picture quality than what I might get if QTP could directly Export to a JPEG.
Here is some info on my environment: I am running Windows XP Home Edition with SP2. Hardware is a Dell Pentium 4 with 2.8GHz cpu, 512MB ram, and over 50GB of free space on the hard drive. I just installed QuickTime Pro 7.1.3 today (and I have already tried de-installing it, and re-installing it, and this did not help).
Am I mis-understanding the instructions in the User Guide? Can anyone suggest how I can get QTP to Export a still image from an MPEG video directly to a JPEG file? Thanks!

QT Pro does not export to jpeg or other image formats. Instead, the picture export (Movie to Picture) creates a PICT format file which contains the frame in the specified compression inside the PICT file. PICT is thus a container file format which can contain image in many different compression formats. If you need an actual jpeg format file you will have to export to one of the uncompressed formats and then use some other graphic utility to convert that file to jpeg format.
Alternately, you can use QT Pro to Copy (Edit menu) the frame to the clip board and then a graphic application to import that frame from the clip board and export it in jpeg format.

  • How can I export a still picture from a video clip?

How can I export a still picture from a video clip?

I'm able to export stills from iMovie without anything extra. I create a new project - call it Exports say. Now, in your event clip with the frames you want as stills, select a single frame and drag it into your project. Repeat for other stills you want to export. Then choose Share -> Export Using QuickTime.
In the pop-up, choose Movie to Image Sequence. Click Options and choose the image format you want. Playing with the number of stills lets you pick how many stills you want from each second of video. Hit OK and the stills will be generated in the directory you choose.
I've only done this with HD video. Don't know how well it works with lower res, interlaced vid.

  • Export frame 16:9

When I  export  frame from 16:9 timeline (using the camera icon), pr will get it back as 16:9,  however in picture viewer it will be 4:3.
is there a way to avoid it?
    Thanks

It sounds like anamorphic video which displays the video pixels oblong when decoded by a video player, but the picture viewer displays them a square. You would need to adjust the picture's aspect ratio in photoshop to get it to look normal with square pixels.
Select the source clip in the project window of premiere, is the aspect ratio 1.333 ? That would be anamorphic.

  • Photo using Export Frame is squished

... Versus the original size or dimensions that is displayed.  I'm using a 1080p .mts file from a Canon M31.  The end result of exporting the frame from the montior is squished -- probably 5X4 or 10X8, how do I change the snapshot size?

Below is a step by step guide with pictures so keep scrolling.  You'll have to figure out how to apply these steps with other software.
The easiet solution is offered by Ann Bens.  Here is a screen shot of how I used the AME.  Make sure you UNCHECK export sequence and format to jpg or tiff.
Its quicker to use the export frame button on the monitor but if your going to use the end product as a still then you have to spend the same or more time fixing it; the AME is the best solution.  Here is how to fix a jpg using photoshop.
STEP 1 - you'll see this window upon opening the file exported from PPro in PS.
    STEP 2 - You'll see a widescreen picture but ...
once you uncheck "pixel aspect ratio correction" you see it looks squished
STEP 3 you'll want to resize it in the following sequence
Change the pixels from 72 to 300
    B. Change the width to either 10 or 5
    C. UNCHECK "constrain proportions" and change the dimension to 1920 Wide and 1080 Height
Now save the file and its ready to use in most other software and for use with online services like Costco's photo books and printers.

  • Publish settings Export frame set to 2 kills flvPlayback

To let my tiny preloader show up before its at 75% I changed
the export frame for classes to 2 in the publish settings. This
works for the preloader but now the flvPlayback doesnt work.
(except it does still work if I hit control enter a second time and
watch my preloder work.Bizzare!) The .flw file still wont playback
the .flv's when run on its own. Changing the export frame back to
"1" and all is fine except the preloader is a no show till it's at
    75% or so.
Dosent seem to be any way to change properties for the
    playback component itself.
help please. The last thread I saw on this subject had no
    resolution and was from 2005.

wow, you waited a whole of 10 minutes to complain you're not
    getting help?
You might want to rethink that strategy, or you'll likely not
    get any help
    at all.
Things export in the frame their in, unless you specify
    otherwise.
A more proper way to make a preloader is to use a separate
    movie, and load
the content into an empty movie clip. Then you can use
    MovieClipLoader, and
accurately monitor and display the dl.

  • How can I include the Frame Number  when using "Export Frame"?

Im using the button at the bottom right of the Playback Control Panel called "Export Frame".  This does exactly what I need but I have a lot of frames that need single frame exporting. How can I get the file name to automaticly include the frame number at the end of the file name?
For example, instead of it displaying "Sequence 01.Still001"  by default.  I would like for it to display "Sequence 01_0001"   Letting me know that is frame 0001.
    This is possible, correct?

Well what about in the export option using CTRL + M?  I saw a coworker using this method in an older version of Premiere, but we can't enable it on CS5.5.  Being able to export a single frame as a bmp that has the frame number at the end of the file name.
    Example:
    Output Name: Sequence 01_0001.bmp
    Under Video Basic Setting is:
    Export As Sequence UNCHECKED
    Field Type: Progressive
Frame number still doesn't show at end of file name.  What are we missing?

  • Is "export frame" the highest quality?

Hi.  Sometimes I want to have a video clip freeze.  That is to say, the final product will have two or more frames that are identical, taken from a single frame of a movie clip.
The way I've been doing this is using the Source or Program monitor to find the relevant frame, export it, and re-import it as a still.  Yet, it occurs to me that when watching videos in the Source or Program monitors, I am not watching the video at its highest quality.  When I finally render my product, I will render it at highest quality.  Does this cause a mis-match between the exported frame and my final product?
When I "export frame", does Premiere take the time to render that frame at best possible quality?  Or am I just getting a preview-quality frame?
    Richard

The exported/frame grabbed frame will be full quality. The lowered quality is for preview purposes only from within Premiere itself.  As long as you don't select .jpeg and stick with a lossless image format when you do a frame grab from within Premiere it will be full quality.

  • Distorted Aspect Ratio of Exported Frames

My project's aspect ratio is 16:9 (720 horizontal, 576 vertical).
I inserted a clip into the timeline.
I exported a certain frame to a file as an image.
    The image file's size: 720 x 576.
I proceeded to import the image file into the project, and inserted it into the timeline.
The image's aspect ratio is not the same as the original footage.
Specifically, the horizontal side is narrower than originally (see attached screenshots).
    What causes this discrepancy?
More importantly, what can i do to get exported frames to match the aspect ratio of the project?

OK, I've got the BMP. When I looked at your images, I thought that we were seeing your still image on the Timeline. We are not. That shape/size is what was produced.
Now, remember that I am on PrE 4, so things will be different in PrE 8. Still, I should be able to get you close. In PrE 4, one uses File>Export>Frame to do a Frame capture under the CTI (Current Time Indicator), and visible in the Program Monitor. When you choose this, you will get the standard Windows dialog screen, where you name and locate your still image. There is also a settings button, that will open up a second dialog box, for you to adjust many attributes of your Frame capture. There, you will have three choices in the left-hand Pane: General, Video and Keyframe and Rendering. First, go to General, and you'll get File Type w/ a dropdown. There, you can choose the format type and should have JPEG, TIFF, BMP, TARGA and GIF (maybe more in PrE 8, like PNG?). I'd stick with TIFF or BMP. About the only other choice is whether you want to add this captured still in your Project, or not. That is your choice.
Go to the Video listing in that left-hand Pane. There you can choose the Frame Size, the PAR and the Color Depth. Make sure that these match your Project's and your source footage's exact specs. Unless you need the Alpha Channel, and are using either TIFF or TARGA, leave Color Depth to Millions of colors. Otherwise, choose Millions +, where the + is that Alpha Channel.
I'd guess that it's in those settings, as to what is happening with your Frame capture. Let me know if you get this sorted, and sorry for my mis-step, but I was not clear on what I was seeing, and where I was seeing it.
    Good luck,
    Hunt

  • Preloader - export frame for AS 2 Classes - not initizialising component

I am using Yahoo's Map Component on a website. When I edit
the Export Frame in Publish settings so that the AS classes are
exported on a frame other than 1 (so my preloader is accurate) my
component does not initialize. I've researched relentlessly on a

    Does anyone have any ideas?
In addition AS2 Classes add nearly 400k to my file size. Is
    there anyway around this?

if that's already set, don't use test scene.

  • Exporting to AOL pictures problem

    Hi All,
When I first downloaded aol pictures, there is an option to install a plugin to export from iphoto 08. This used to work until i purchased an hp all in one c4280 and I installed the software from the hp website.
Now when I go to file->export from iphoto, I see the hp software but not the aol. I know the AOL plug in is still installed. Any Idea why i cant export to AOL pictures?
    Thanks
    Mark

    Mark:
It appears that the AOL plugin is not compatible with the Hp one. Try removing the Hp plugin and try again.
    Do you Twango?
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 08 libraries and Leopard. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.
