Exporting from FCP to Soundtrack Pro looses files!!!

I'm working on a project shot on an f900 HD camera with the tapes downconverted to HD-DVCPro to quicktimes. I sb-clipped the QT and I re-synced the audio with the .wav tracks recorded on set. My sequence is set up for a .wav project. I've exported a sequence from FCP by using both Send to Soundtrack Pro and exporting to Soundtrack pro. In both cases I received an error and when I went back to FCP some of my clips were gone. They weren't in the trash or in the Capture folder> I did a search for the file names and they had vanished, or had been renamed. Anyone had this problem before? Should I dump the STP then re-install it? I'll look at Apple support page. Is there a problem between the .wav and aiff? Can Soundtrack Pro bring in .wav or is it only aiff?

  • Can't export audio from FCP to Soundtrack Pro

I'm running FCP 5.0.2 and have Soundtrack Pro 1.0. I'm trying to export audio tracks from a long FCP project I'm working on to ST Pro to clean them up. As shown in Apple's online demo videos, I want to export an audio track and then remove 'pops' and do noise reduction, etc. In FCP I right click the audio track I want and go down to 'Send To' but the option for "Soundtrack Pro Audio File Project" is grayed out and I can't click it.
If I unlink the tracks and then right click the audio track and 'Send To', the "Soundtrack Pro Audio File Project" isn't grayed out and looks like it would work. But that is only highlighting one audio track, not the other stereo track and not the video track. In the demo video all three were highlighted but when I relink all tracks and try to 'Send To' I get the grayed out "Soundtrack Pro Audio File Project" again.
Is there something I need to do or a step I'm missing.

You might be onto something Randy. I noticed in the Timeline if I tried to send an imported .AIF music clip to 'Soundtrack Pro Audio Project' it would allow it and the option wasn't grayed out. So I looked in my Browser window and checked out the file attributes to every clip which are listed to the right of the names. Sure enough, under the AUDIO column the .AIF music files are listed as '1 Stereo' and the rest of my captured video clips are listed in the AUDIO column as '2 Mono'.
So was there a setting for me to choose during Log and Capture that would have made them '1 Stereo' as opposed to '2 Mono'? Or is this a preference setting somewhere to change that for next time? They were recorded on my camera in stereo I'm pretty sure.
Now in terms of the massive project I've already captured and edited, should I be able to export these mono tracks individualy and fix them as needed? When I click the 'Send to' 'Soundtrack Pro Audio Project File' for these single mono tracks it asks me to 'Save' the file somewhere, is there a proper place to do this or just anywhere on the HD?
    Thanks

  • Missing Audio from FCP to Soundtrack Pro in Final Cut Studio 2

I've been trying to edit a sequence from Final Cut Pro 6 in Soundtrack 2 by sending the sequence to soundtrack as a multitrack project. For some reason, when I send it, multiple audio files from the original sequence are completely missing, and I have no clue why. They're .mov files from the original import of footage.
Anyone know why these don't transfer and how to fix it?

    Hi
I too have had trouble with Audio from FCP 6 messing up in STP 2. My opinion is that the process works if the audio tracks in FCP are either Mono sourced or stereo sourced and are never relinked, split to mono (in the case of stereo files) in FCP during editing. God forbid you unpair a stereo track and delete one channel!
Once in STP I have had occasions where non audio appears, the wrong track appears... or sometimes the wrong audio!
Once in a while double clicking on the offending clip in STP to open it in a Wave window seems to show the right audio. Either saving it of closing the window ( command/w) restores the right material to the clip in STP.
You could right click on the audio in FCP and "send to STP Audio Project". Hopefully the correct audio is opened in STP. Then save it. Now re-export the Multitrack project and see if the audio makes the trip.
Or, you could export the Audio directly from FCP, then import it into STP and position it against the video manually.
One warning : once things start going pear shaped in the FCP-STP workflow, it's my experience that I'm fighting problems all the way. It's why I don't use STP for FCP mixing .... I want to, but its too risky.
    I hope V3 is better.

  • Audio sync problem: exporting from FCP to Pro tools or soundtrack pro

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Final Cut Pro sound export for mastering.....sync problem
    Hey,
I'm editing a 30 minute film and I have done most of the sound edit in FCP and Soundtrack pro and I want to now bring all the sound into pro tools to master the sound but every time i export sound into pro tools it seems to stretch by two or three seconds.
I have tried OMF, AIFF, XML, and Quicktime audio file sut to no avail!!!!
There are 50 tracks in the file so it is quiet large. It's not that there are handles of the file also as when I sync the file with the audio track with the video it syncs in one place but it is still out of sync in another.........It's as if the audio has been stretched!?!
If anyone has any advice it'd be much appreciated
    Keith

Try mixing down the audio first. Sequence/Render Only/Audio mixdown.
You could even try exporting the audio with the Export QT movie command using "current settings" and reimport that file, Add that mixed down file to a copy of the sequence. If it syncs in FCP I'd think it will sync on export too.

  • Export from FCP directly into DVD studio pro?

Is it possible to export from FCP directly into DVD studio pro? If not, what is the preferred file format because my exported quicktime files come up as "incompatible format" when I try to add them into my DVD project. Any help is appreciated.

You need to encode audio as well from Compressor. You'll have 2 files - audio and video.
    Here's a tutorial:

  • PAL files exported from FCP don't display

This is a strange one... SD PAL uncompressed files exported from FCP 6.03 won't display, you just see black. HD files are fine, as are SD PAL files exported a while ago - prior to a recent pro apps or QT update possibly? As a workaround, if they exported via compressor instead of by 'export quicktime' in FCP, they work fine. Shake is 4.0 since 4.1 doesn't want to display via a decklink.
Any ideas? This seems to be a new one.

Does the computer your using to view this video have Final Cut Pro installed?

  • HT3659 My Soundtrack pro looses the mic on AJAKona.  It will appear as an input only after clicking on New audio file, then ok, Recording alert appears and then I have my AJA KONA3g back as an input option. loose it again if I change track

My Soundtrack pro looses the mic on AJAKona.  It will appear as an input only by clicking on New audio file, then ok,  and an Recording alert comes up.  But if I change track I loose the AJA again. How do I fix this?

Finally found the answer. The recording was done at 48, the audio/MIDI settings were set to 48, but the sampling setting on the export was not, causing everything else to break down. Once all three matched the export worked and the playback audio worked without opening the clip editing screen.

  • Newbie question: How to share large QT movie files exported from FCP X?

Well, I've navigated through FCP X for the first time and I now have 16 QuickTime movie files I have exported from FCP X. Each file is a song from a live band performance. The files are:
    - Apple ProRes 422
    - 1920 x 1080
    - 24-bit
    - Frame rate 29.97 fps
Now I need to share these files with the band members. They will use them for two purposes:
    - Watch, as feedback on their performance. In this case, I'd like to preserve the quality as much as possible
    - Put some of the movies on YouTube, where quality will be lost, of course. They may post only short clips from the songs.
These 16 .mov files total 115GB. The smallest is 6.5GB, the largest is 13.9GB.
The quality of the movies is fantastic, both video and audio. I cringe to think about degrading the quality............but I have the practical problem of how to get the files to five different band members.
I normally distribute audio files I've mixed in Pro Tools via DVD-R discs, but the files are much smaller.
What are my options for sharing the files?
Do I need to use an application like Compressor to compress the files (ugh) to get them onto multiple DVD-R's?
I would assume this is a common problem that all FCP X users deal with.

I strongly recommend you to use Compressor. It is easy to use and there a lot  of presets.

  • No Video when using the "Send To Soundtrack Pro Audio File" Command

    Hello FCP Users,
After reading and rereading the FCP and STP manuals and scouring the boards; I still can not figure out how to view my video clip while I'm editing/sweetening audio in STP. I have even used the DVD tutorial in an attempt to figure it out (all works fine and good with the tutorial example), but I'm stuck here the real world.
I'm thinking their must be some preference setting somewhere in STP that I've missed. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!!!
    Best regards,
    Jeff
    From the Manual:
Soundtrack Pro creates a new audio file project (with the file type .stap) for the clip. The clip can contain video and audio or contain only audio.
In the Final Cut Pro Timeline, Control-click the clip, then choose “Send To >
Soundtrack Pro Audio File Project” from the shortcut menu."

    Rob,
The audio consists of two separate audio tracks A1 is from a lav mic and A2 is from an on-camera mic.
    It was captured DV.
If I rt click the video clip in the "video tl" the "Send To Soundtrack Pro Audio File" in the dialog box is grayed out/not available for selection, but the Send To Soundtrack Pro Multitrack Program is available to select.
If I choose to Send To Soundtrack Pro Multitrack Program I get the following an error message: Error sending selection to Soundtrack Pro.
I've tried de-selecting the "linked selection" in the tl and rt click the audio clip in the "audio tl" and that allows me to "Send To Soundtrack Pro Audio File" , but no video in the utility window of STP.
If I select the "linked selection" in the tl and rt click the audio clip in the "audio tl" the "Send To Soundtrack Pro Audio File" in the dialog box is grayed out/not available for selection, but the Send To Soundtrack Pro Multitrack Program is available to select.
If I choose to Send To Soundtrack Pro Multitrack Program I get the following an error message: Error sending selection to Soundtrack Pro.
It looked all so simple in the tutorial. I'm going on five hours of trying to find an answer to this issue any other suggestions before I slit my wrists? Thanks for your input.

  • Exporting from FCP to FLV

I have begun to produce multimedia features (audio slide shows, stills combined with audio, no video yet) using FCP. I bit the bullet and bought the whole Final Cut Studio because I figured I would need many of the programs in the suite.
My first sizable client wants me to deliver the features not as QT files, but as .flv flash files. Is there a way to export my FCP project as an .flv file for this client with what I already have (all the FCP Studio apps) or do I still need to buy additional software? I have been researching this a bit and what I've come across so far are the following options:
    1. buying flash and thus being able to export via compressor (but this seems like overkill considering flash is very expensive and I don't need it for anything else)
    2. buy Sorenson Squeeze, but this also seems like an expensive option at $500 - 600.
    3. I read somewhere on this forum that you can export to H.264 using compressor, and then simply change the suffix from .mov to .flv. Does anyone know if this really works?
To date most of my clients ask me to deliver content as QT .mov files, or in some cases make DVDs for them. I am unenthusiastic about spending $5-600 for Sorenson Squeeze unless there is no other good way, as this is the only client who has requested delivery in .flv files for their flash web server.
Is there any other high quality, reliable way to do this within the Final Cut Pro Studio set of apps, or do I have to invest more money?
Any thoughts or suggestions would be gratefully appreciated. Thanks in advance for any advice.
    Paula Lerner

I have been doing some research and testing, and for anyone who's interested I have some new information, and also a few new questions.
My One to One Apple trainer turned me on to something called MPEG Streamclip which is a free download (just google it for the link). I tested it and the result was pretty decent. I also discovered that there is a less expensive Squeeze option called Squeeze 5 for Flash ($199) and Squeeze 5 for Flash Pro ($299). Beyond the $39 Flix Standard that G. mentioned here, On2 also makes Flix Exporter, which is a plug in for Final Cut Pro, and costs $199. I will be testing it shortly.
My question now is has anybody on this forum been using the Flix Standard, or either Squeeze 5 for Flash (pro or non-pro version), and have any opinions as to how they compare? I'm trying to figure out the relative pros and cons to each one so I can make an informed decision.
    Thanks for any feedback.

  • FCP and Soundtrack Pro music licensing and music cue sheet procedures

Okay, so we made the movie, and we marketed it and it has been sold in several geographic territories. Now I have to make up a music cue sheet. What do I put on the cue sheet for Apple Loops and FCP and Soundtrack Pro files that I have used for music? I believe they are royalty free, which is great. But I'm supposed to identify the music cues with writer, publisher, and society (ASCAP, BMI, etc.) What does an entry for those resources look like? It's really hard to find this info in the documentation for FCP and SP. Thanks.
    G5 Mac OS X (10.5.4)

Interesting question - We don't use attorneys - too expensive, and we never listen to 'em anyway, so the info didn't come from a lawyer, ha ha. But I've seen several examples of music cue sheets, and they all contain the same information, including composer, publisher, society, timing, etc. (After all, that's the purpose of the cue sheet - to see that the artists and producers get paid for their work). You can find one format at:
    www.ascap.com/musicbiz/cuesheetcorner/pdf/SampleCue
Of course, if the example comes from ASCAP (as that one does) or another society (BMI, others), they are working to make their job easier, but they are the societies - they are the ones who can object if they don't like it. And they have substantial power to penalize a producer for not doing what they want. But here's the thing: there's huge tradition in Hollywood, and the rule is (and the contracts say) that if you don't provide everything on the distributor's list of deliverables, they hold your money until you do - and one of the things on the list of deliverables is a music cue sheet, and every example I've ever seen (and I've seen at least 20) asks for the same information. So that's the answer as to "who told you that?" Is is possible that I'm being led down the garden path by ASCAP and the movie industry in general? Sure, but every source I consult agrees that this is the reality. I wish I could avoid it, but as I understand the situation, I have to do it, and it has to contain the info, or we'll never see our dough, ha ha. But my question remains the same - how do I get that info for the "royalty-free" music library attached to FCP?

  • I need to output a PAL HDV project from FCP as a PAL DV file with 4 audio t

I need to output a PAL HDV project from FCP as a PAL DV file with 4 audio tracks - specifically one stereo pair to be t1&t3, the other stereo pair to be t2&t4. This is the standard way requested by an international distributor of tv programmes. I understand how to set the sequence in FCP to output 4 audio tracks - either 2 stereo pairs (1&2, + 3&4), or 4 discrete tracks. But how do I then output this as a QT file?
The manual tells me that to export multiple audio tracks, File>Export>QT Movie has it's Config pop-up menu in the Audio Settings area of the General tab of the Sequence Settings. Well, that's set for 4 discrete channels, but the QT export settings only allow for 2 mono or 1 stereo output, and that's what I get when I try it. What it says in the manual just doesn't happen.
Exporting via Compressor, on the other hand, has an abundance of choices of 4-track outputs, none of which are labelled as anything resembling 'discrete'. Would any of those 4.0 settings suffice? Or am I likely to get myself into difficulties further down the line? As I am monitoring for this task on a 2-track audio system, I cannot confirm exactly what I am getting when I use any of those settings.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated!
    John

Call me naive, but I've not heard of splitting the stereo pairs like this before.
What broadcaster? (perhaps one of our EU regulars will drop in...)
You can do all sorts of pairing but it is coincident tracks pairing- eg 1/2 + 3/4
    Sorry I can't offer anything.

  • Exporting from FCP to DVD

    Hey
Just wondering if I can get some advise. I need to export my project from final cut pro to DVD but just wondering what the best way to do this would be to get the best quality DVD. (This is for a company to take out to potential clients to sell what the company does - so it needs to look good!)
My project is no longer than 5 mins
    1920 x 1080 - 1080i (16:9)
    Field Dominance: None
    frame rate 25
I have Final Cut Studio latest version.
I'm trying out a few options at the moment using compressor - best quality - so we'll see what these look like, but I'm not sure what all the settings should be set at.
Any advise on what you think will be best would be great.
    Thanks

Wouldn't use Quicktime conversion - no need. Just export from FCP as Quicktime Movie at current settings.
In my experience, changing the field dominance from interlaced to progressive can cause stuttering particularly in motion graphics - this might not be an issue if you're laying to tape for broadcast but when you convert back to interlaced for SD DVD it can look very ugly.
In any case, at the very least, you need to be using a Kona card or IOHD to do this type of conversion properly - and really, if you want progressive you should shoot progressive.

Can't open quicktime movie that I exported from FCP 5. Help!

    What arrow?
Have you tried opening the file in FCP?
If there is no error message and it will not play in QT7, it is quite possible the file is corrupted. You will need to go back to the original project and re-export the file.
