Exporting from Final Cut???

I have been working with FCP for 6 years. I have continued to upgrade versions of FCP. Computer crashed last week and I have had to reload all of my applications.
Now when I export out of FCP I do not have the option of creating an MPEG2.
What happpened to it and what is the fix?

Because of the superior capabilities of Compressor, the QuickTime MPEG-2 encoder is superfluous and is not included with new installations of DVD Studio Pro 4 or Final Cut Studio.

There are many threads here too about this. Do a search for i.e. "MPEG-2 QuickTime export".
Exporting a QuickTime reference file, and encoding that using Compressor is how I like to do it. Read more about that here: http://www.larryjordan.biz/articles/ljdvdexport.html

  • Best video format to export from final cut pro to encore

hi, i'm using final cut pro and no matter what format i export my video in, be it quicktime, mpeg2 or avi, there's still a slight degradation of picture quality when i import it into encore. mpeg2 by far suffers the least. but is there a best video format i can export from final cut to adobe so dat there's minimal loss in quality?

Sure, export it as an uncompressed AVI or QT file.

Can files be exported from Final Cut Pro X trial?

It doesn't seem to work on mine, when I go to command: the export button is in grey, whereas all the others (import; customize) are black and can be actionned. Is this a restriction in the trial version or is there a way to activate export?

  • Exporting from Final Cut Pro

Hi I have shot a show that ran for 2 hours. I have edited and now just need to know how I should export it and what format so it can fit on a dvd. I will be using iDVD 5 for the menus, and I am under the impression iDVD 5 doesnt support mpeg 2 files. So i need another way to export from Final Cut and then put it in iDVD 5 then onto a dvd.

    I'm afraid I've mis-stated some information, and I apologize.
First, you would need to select 'best QUALITY' for anything over 60 minutes.
Generally iDVD5 should successfully create a 90 minute DVD. It is supposed to be able to create up to 2hours of content, but that would include all media creation items, including movie file(s), motion menus, drop zones, music...etc.
I had come across a link that discussed creating longer DVDs in iDVD, but it works with iMovie and is not totally relevant to this forum.
Again I apologize, but if it interests you, here is the link...

  • Audio out of synch after I export from Final Cut

I have a video on a Final Cut timeline. If I play in FC, audio is in synch. If I play the file in QuickTime player from my captures folder, the audio is in synch. If I export from final cut, or from quicktime pro, the audio of the resulting file is off by about 1 second. I was trying to make a h.264 file, but it does the same thing if I export to other formats as well.
This only seems to be happening with this particular video. I have a number of project loaded right now, and do not have this same problem with the other projects.
Weird....any help would be greatly appreciated.

You didn't include any of your specifications for the sequences or exported movies but a problem that only exists on a single item is directly associated with that item and can be identified but they're usually subtle.
My first guess is that the audio on the original media is set to a slight different sampling rate. Could be off a thousandth of a decimal. The reason it works in the timeline is it's being conformed to the sequence settings in realtime. The export would reference the original.
I can't tell from the post where you're getting this loss of sync. Can you try exporting a self-contained movie and then use that to go to h.264?

  • Export FROM Final Cut w/ alpha?

Is there a way to export from Final Cut and sustain the 'alpha'. For example, I'm exporting the video layer from an infomercial offer screen and will bring it into AE.
I don't think there's a way but I just wanted to throw it out there in case there's a new trick someone knows.
Thanks...and don't give me any AE tips...just wanted to know the alpha thing,
    Tom

you can also use any of the Avid QT codec's as an intermediate (their codecs are freely available available for download from their website and they all support alpha ... even AvidDV)
or there is BitJazz's Sheer codec (commercial) ... or if you can wait then there's Red Giant's Microcosm codec (soon to be a free release)

  • FLV Export From Final Cut Pro

    Hi Folks,
I've been reading and reading and just want to know what is
the right way to go about exporting video from a third party
application like Final Cut Pro. Yes, the easy way is to
Export>quicktime conversion and go from there. If this is the
best way then great, But i'm wondering if exporting as a lossless
quicktime codec such as the Video codec or the Anitmation codec
would be a better choice then go to the flash video encoder with
the lossless file. I heard that exporting straight out of FCP could
be bad as the video needs to be deinterlaced before the flv stage.
If this is the case, what are the best settings when
exporting a lossless quicktime file? There are about 6 setting s
that need to be set and I haven't a clue what would be the right
    settings.
If exporting from final cut straight to flv, are you folks
dropping the frame rate to 15 fps(cutting your frames in half). Is
    this working better for you?
Well thanks for all your help, I keep on testing short clips
and can't seem to find a any certain configuration that i really
    like.
hanks so much for all your help.
    todd

    Todd ..
We do quite a bit of video / flv work.
Our editing software is VEGAS so unfortunately we can't
render directly to flv .. but avi->flv via Sorenson Squeeze.
If Final Cut allows rendering directly to flv, my
recommedation would be to use that functionallity. Caveats .. if
the encoder can 1. deinterlace i.e. progressive scan. 2. reduce
your framerate from 29. to 15. 3. gives you the ability to control
    # of key frames.
The logic being .. use the fewest number of encoding methods
to get from source to output to maintain best quality.

  • Exporting From Final Cut for Dropbox

I have a 2GB Dropbox account that I would like to utilize as a way for my clients to view their projects. Specifically I have a 30:00 program that I need to export from Final Cut to Dropbox. Could someone suggest the best export settings to create a less than 2GB file? Every setting I try always produces a file greater than 2GB. If you could please be specific as possible; do I export using Quicktime or Quicktime conversion? What compression do I use? Etc. Thank you so much.

I don't know...i'd go with the H.264 for iPod video and iPhone preset in Compressor. Oughta squish it down pretty good and still look nice.

  • Color differences when exporting from Final Cut

I have a big problem when exporting from Final cut to any file format. The colors and contrast looks fine in Final cut and on my external monitor but when exporting to, for example, H.264 I get a file that is "washed out". Colors are bleak and the over all feel is not what I expect. The funny thing is that if I import the exported file into Final cut it looks fine. What am I doing wrong? Can anyone help me out with this?

QT brightens the image. Dunno why...perhaps so that it ensures that every monitor can see it?
    Here is an example:
But I don't know why that is.

  • How to play an HD movie exported from Final Cut Pro?

How to play an HD movie exported from Final Cut Pro? on a mac???
    thanks

How to play an HD movie exported from Final Cut Pro? on a mac?
Most FCP users export them in a high-effeciency distribution/delivery compression format (e,g,, H.264/AAC) targeted for a particular application and/or device. For example, you could export using H.264/AAC at full display resolution for playback in the QT Player at an appropriate data rate if your platform and display can handle the output. TV would limid the video to 960x540 at 30/29.97 fps and normal AAC audio to 160 kbps at 48.0 KHz. Files exported for display an the Internet would be restricted by the bandwidth being targeted. Etc, etc, etc. Unless the file will only be played on your own platform, what you do not want to do is use an FCP only compression format which would limit viewers to those recipients have the same FCP codecs installed.

  • Exporting From Final Cut Pro 5.0

    Hello,
I need to export my work from Final Cut Pro 5.0 to a Quicktime Movie with the following settings -
    Compression: H.264
    Frame Rate: 15fps
    Bit Rate: 200k
Is this posible without loosing the quality of the video footage? The footage was capture from a MiniDV tape.

Is this posible without loosing the quality of the video footage? The footage was capture from a MiniDV tape.
If you want full resolution 640 x 480 then 200Kbps isn't going to look very good. As a guide you can note that Apple is using about 600Kbps to encode the iTunes video content and that has a resolution of only 320 x 240. However, since you're only using a frame rate of 15fps you should be able to produce good looking content at just over 1Mbps for 640 x 480.
Of course, it does depend upon the nature of your source video (the subject). Simple "talking head" shots could go lower, while rapid action material might need considerably more than 1Mbps (along with a higher frame rate).

  • Exporting from Final Cut Pro for DVD Studio Pro

In the recent DVDs I've made, the quality seems lower than it has before. I don't think I've changed anything, but I was wondering what is the best format to export a clip from Final Cut Pro and the best way to encode those clips in DVD Studio Pro. Thanks for all your help!
    Erin

The best and only format is mpeg2/m2v.
The encoding rate for video is based on the length of the sequence in h/m/s.
They should not be encoded in DVDSP, but exported as a self contained with current settings, no recompression and dropped into Compressor.
Based on length and the type of footage, elect a preset for video and elect Dolby 2 for audio
