Exporting from Keynote to Power Point

I live in Kenya in East Africa and run photographic safaris. I use Canon digital equipment (still photography) and at the end of each safari set up a slide show of the better images taken on the safari and give it to the guests. I present my images using power point as this seems to be the most universal way to present slides.
I own a 17 inch Power Book G4 and also a 17 inch Mac Book Pro. I use Aperture on both Macs.
On my new Mac Book Pro I have problems. After editing in Aperture, I then export my versions ( in any format - Tiff, Jpeg ) to a file and then import them from that file to power point. Power point seems to remove all the punch of the images making them look very flat and hardly worth looking at. Why?
I have managed to by pass this problem on my Power book G4 by exporting images from Aperture as Tiffs, these seem to work quite well when they are imported into Power point, except the files are huge.
What this means is that I own a Mac Book Pro but don't use it as it can't do what is required. I hope I am doing something wrong or that there is an alternative method to presenting slides.
I have Keynote, which works well. Sadly most of our guests are PC users and so would like the slides in a PC format. Keynote allows you to convert to power point, but here again the picture once in power point looks flat, Why?
Is there a better method than Power point to present slides? In a presentation I like to have text, single and multiple images per slide.
I have used iDVD, but there are not enough pixels on a TV screen (when showing still images) to give you a punchy clear picture, or so I am told.
I would love any suggestions to help with this problem.

Hi Ngiri
It's not really clear to me how you or your guests are assessing your "flat" photos - on a computer screen, via a video projector, on a TV?
Most of my photo slide shows are created using DVDStudioPro - look fantastic. Distributed as a PAL DVD "best viewed on a TV".
Lately I have tried some photo presentations using Keynote, and then exported to Powerpoint. Photos looked fine, but PP is unacceptable. I then tried exporting from PP straight to PDF. Using a PDF for a presentation was a revelation - photos look very good. The PDF is a small cross platform file. However, I still prefer DVDStudioPro, but it takes much longer to create a DVD.
Have you actually tried Keynote straight to iDVD? Or a slideshow created within iDVD? (Lots of tutorials available).

???I don't understand why anyone would tell you this???
Of course, Aperture could be the problem...or your Mac Book Pro is incorrectly setup.

  • RE:  Keynote to Power Point; timing off

I created a file in KEYNOTE with multiple transitions on the BULLET POINTS. When I EXPORTED to POWER POINT then sent to my client the transition timing was off. For example, a TWO SECOND DISSOLVE translated into 1/2 SECOND. Is this a systemic problem with KEYNOTE?
    Thanks, Andy

  • MOV exported from Keynote - last slide disappears, audio continues playing

I have a series of three mov files that were created in & exported from Keynote. They are audio & slide shows that are to autoplay on a website. Two of the files function as expected once embedded in the website, one does not; the last slide drops out (displaying a white screen) while the audio continues for approximately 30 seconds until the mov file ends. To add confusion to the issue ALL the files play as expected using Safari (on Win & Mac). Using Firefox on Mac delivers the "broken" results. Using ANY browser on Windows yields the broken result.
Any suggestions from anyone as to what could be causing this? A link to the website I'm talking about is below. The problem file is on index2.html

    Hi,
Since I am trying to do a number of things with Keynote, I read these discussions looking for opportunities and pitfalls.
I read your message, and saw your outcome as an issue. Since I've yet to add the soundtrack to my current project, I needed to know more about the outcome before I proceeded, in order to adjust accordingly.
I took my project, and added a song as the soundtrack. I played the slideshow, and the soundtrack played along, across the slides as it should. I then began to record the slideshow, but the soundtrack came playing through the speakers and was being picked up by the microphones, so I offed the speakers, donned my headphones, and re-began the recording. The soundtrack was playing (in the headphones), and I was narrating across many slides.
I played the recorded slideshow, and all was present - soundtrack and recorded narration.
I exported to Quicktime, sending the output to a new folder so that it could easily be found, along with anything else that might be generated. Upon completion, there was only one movie file in the folder. I opened and played it in Quicktime. It was perfect - slides looked good, narration was there, and the soundtrack was playing in the background.
This outcome appears to be your objective, so I'm not sure what I did differently than you, but from this experience, it works as should be expected.
    Good luck.

  • Can't export from keynote 09 to quicktime

When I try to export from keynote 09 to quicktime 10 I get an error code there is not enough disk space or error 34.  I have taken off some graphic intensive files and have 30 GB of space left, but that does not seem to help.  Waht can I do?

Until you receive a specific answer from an expert, I would suggest finding somewhere to put unnecessary (or less important) larger files.
Macs need 10% free space to work correctly and 15% is much safer. Any less and you could run into all sorts of unpredictable problems. I think you will find that some of the free space is being used to process your exporting request, so that is multiplying the problem.

  • Error 108 exporting from keynote to quicktime

hi to all, i know this problem is already questioned, but after reading all the posts about it and after have tried all the possible solutions i cannot export my presentation from keynote 5 to quicknote. i still got the same error 108. the first time i've tried everything worked fine with a presentation of 400 slides full of hyperlink and images with the same transistion (  i still had no idea about the bug ). so i need to do one again bigger of 656 slides with hyperlink and images and the transition.so i tried again to export it... then it started troubles. the 108 error was shown to me for the first time. after that i try many times with small groups of slides from my presentation with hyper link and without them, with transitions and without them... and the result was that sometimes i cannot export one slide neither!!!!!!!!!!!!! one slide white, without anything...
please do you have any idea about it? the other way to see my presentation on a pc means a lot of stupid work campared to a apparently simply export from keynote to quick time
    thank you in advance

Yeah, me too. Bump. Can anybody explain this behavior?!?

  • How to export keynote to power point when sharing with other people

I had to manipulate a master's of someone else on keynote, record my slides and then post it to a discussion board, it kept removing my recording when I exported it to power point for presentation.  I could not do it and I tried everything renaming it with no characters.  Help!!!

PowerPoint does not support recorded presentations when exporting the recording is removed.
You will need to use a Keynote presentation without the recorded timings or usePowerPoint, Open Office or Libra Office to author a presentation with individual timings on each slide.

  • Keynote to Power point question

Hi all, I just made a keynote presentation of a ipod ad with music(one song) for a school project. I went to file and export so I could save it as a power point file so the teacher could play it for the class on his PC and then through a projector. I just tested it on my dad's PC and the presentation is OK but there is no MUSIC, how do I fix this problem. I need it for tomorrow Morn!!
    Thank you in advance
    Jess
Oh I also tryed exporting to a QT file and no music either?
and yes in the inspector the music is there on both thnx

Keynote's exporting is pretty screwed up at the moment, unfortunately, with respect to audio. Try checking the original audio file to see if it's an MP3.
The safest way to ensure the presentation works across platforms would be to use a QuickTime file. As you found, audio export causes problems. There are some workarounds discussed in this forum that should help. In your case, you should be able to export the presentation without audio, then add the audio file separately, using QuickTime Pro or iMovie.

  • Exporting from keynote to FCE

Exporting apresentation from Keynote with H.264 compression...very good quality...finetuning in FCP and the exproted files look like crapp...tried many eports always the same...artefacts all over the place...Help please...thx

    oops, just realize:
in topic you ask for fcE, in the post you write of fcP.. that makes a difference...
for fcE, 1024x768 is no supported resolution..- gets converted/zoomed => loss of pic quality..
for fcE, usually AIC is the internal codec for HiDef ..
for fcP all the above isn't true.... no idea, about fcP..

  • Error exporting from keynote 3 to idvd 6

Apologies for duplicating this in iDVD forum too:
I know this has been posted before - but I can't seem to find an answer to fix my problem. I am trying to export a 30 slide presentation from Keynote 3 to iDVD 6 - the presentation is using slides which should be the optimum slide size for iDVD (according to help files) it has an sudio file with it, but when I go to burn it using iDVD i get the following error message:
    Error During Track Initialization
There was an error during track initialization and iDVD
cannot continue burning this DVD 'the disc has not been
touched yet!). Please select Delete Encoded Assets'
from the Advanced-menu and try burning this project again.
I tried exporting the presentation to QT, which then worked and allowed me to burn the dvd, but the picture quality was completely rubbish.
Am at a total loss what to do next as have spent last three days trying various things with no success... idvd now keeps crashing on me as well. I have an urgent deadline I need to meet by next week

    Hi BigLou:
Be sure that you trash the idvd preferences prior to staring a new project. There may be leftover files from the trial version that are messing things up too. Look for all of those to be sure that you got rid of them.

  • HELP!EXPORTING FROM KEYNOTE TO QUICKTIME AND IT CREATES TWO DIFFERENT FILES

I made a presentation in keynote, adding music from my itunes library and need to send it to a client (who owns a PC) ASAP.
When I export my keynote file to QT, it creates two separate files on my computer. One is the project and one is the "soundtrack.mov"
    1. Why does it create two separate files?
    2. How can I send the ENTIRE presentation in one?
    3. How can I send it to a PC user?
    4. Why did it tell me on my last music selection that I added to keynote (After I exported) that I would have to open it in itunes???

  • Exporting from Keynote 08 using applescript or automator

    Hi
Does anyone have a method for triggering an export from applescript of an open keynote presentation, I have an action that takes a sequence of images (exported slides) sorts and loads into an new presentation and I would like to then export as .ppt
This allows the sad ppt user to see the slides perfectly formed (and stops them editing and stealing my ideas). However the last step of the export I have to do manually as I cant see any actions in automator or anything in the applescript dictionary.
    Any ideas
    thanks
    Jon

I have exactly the same question. I have been experimenting with AS. I found some code that almost works, but it won't select the PDF button. The sheet with the buttons is obviously not a radio button group, and I can't work out what it is.
    tell application "Finder"
    set draggeditems to (choose file)
repeat with thisFile in draggeditems as list
tell application "Finder" to reveal item thisFile
set thisFile to thisFile as alias
tell application "Keynote" to open thisFile
    tell application "System Events"
    tell application process "Keynote"
    set frontmost to true
if menu item "Hide Inspector" of menu 1 of menu bar item "View" of menu bar 1 exists then
    keystroke "i" using {command down, option down}
    end if
click menu item "Export…" of menu 1 of menu bar item "File" of menu bar 1
repeat until sheet 1 of window 1 exists
    end repeat
tell sheet 1 of window 1
click button "PDF" of radio group 1
    click checkbox "Include slide numbers"
    click checkbox "Include date"
click checkbox "Print each stage of builds"
    click button "Next…"
    end tell
repeat until button "Export" of sheet 1 of window 1 exists
    end repeat
tell sheet 1 of window 1
    click button "Export"
    end tell
    delay 3
    keystroke "w" using command down
    end tell
    end tell
    end repeat
    end tell

  • PPTs exported from Keynote won't open in Powerpoint 12.2.8

    When I export a Keynote 09 file as a Powerpoint and then try to open it in Powerpoint 12.2.8 I get the following error message. "There was an error accessing Symbiont:Users:Symbiodin:Desktop:02EpitheliatextA.ppt This happens with all files I export as ppts, not just one. Curiously, the files will open in Powerpoint 12.2.7? Has anyone else experienced this problem? Or better yet, have a solution for it. (-;{

I also had this problem. I found, by trial and error, that an image I had in my master slides caused the issue. When I removed it, exporting to PowerPoint worked correctly.
This image had been there for a long time, and I'm not sure what was wrong with that image. It used to export fine with older versions of Keynote. Or the latest Office update broke it. I'm not sure who is at fault, as I updated both.
Anyway, that might be something to try. Either in the master slides, or one of the slides.
