Exporting from Motion to Quicktime troubles

I have made a video montage in motion where I have several talking head clips scrolling from left to right. When I export my project to Quicktime the images are showing glitches. I exported through H.264, 24fps, 30fps, 60fps, Mpeg4 24fps, 30fpc, & 60fpc. all times with best quality selected. Any suggestions?
I am using Mac OSX G5, version 10.4.8, Processor 4/2.5 Ghz Power PCC, Memory 2GB 5DRAM, Motion 2.0.2 from FCP HD package.
Thanks in advance

Thank you very much Chris. I works perfectly! You're the best!

  • Trouble Exporting from Motion

I've been having problems exporting my Motion Projects out of Motion. I've been working on a 30sec spot 100% animated (no 3D), the project is set for DVDCPRO HD 1080i60 and I just cant get it out properly.
Fades that worked in the project are missing in the exported file, pictures somehow become corrupted/distorted in the exported file, and I have also noticed the top bar in leopard often turns partially or completely black after export, and motion crashes soon afterwards.
When exporting from motion I notice my processors aren't being used much. I have tired dropping the motion project directly into compressor but I get even more errors and strange green distortion on the exported file.
It takes about an hour and a half to export the 30 sec spot under maximum settings, (motion blur, frame blending, and all that) and I have an ATI RadeonX1900 with 512 VRAM.
Is my computer to underpowered, or my graphics card, or both? Suggestions please?

Hope you get some better advice soon. Meantime, try to copy and then paste some layers into independent projects, render them out as self-contained movies. See what happens to them. What you want to try to do is separate out pieces you can pre-render and then bring back in as movies. This eliminates tons of layers processing and might clear up some issues. Also helps you isolate issues with possibly corrupt media.
Can't help you on the Leopard stuff. We've had dozens of Motion/leopard conflicts posted over the last several months.

  • Exporting from Motion Loads Into Memory

I completed a slideshow in Motion, and am trying to export it out for a DVD.
First I tried exporting from Motion to DV NTSC format, and after watching my memory & CPU, it appears that Motion is loading the project into memory for export.
So I quit the process, quit Motion, loaded the Motion project file into compressor, and submitted a job to the Batch monitor to compress from my Motion project to DVD.
The process is taking 5 hours for a 10 minute piece. The CPU's are running at around 10% and my memory is full? I was hoping compressor would not load the project into memory and instead use the CPU to render.
I suspect my slow down is from the project paging in and out of memory to compress?
Does anyone know how to force compressor to use CPU for rendering and not load a Motion Project FIle into memory?
    Thank you.

I do slideshows regularly. I render out of Motion to DV. Clean, fast, slick.
I pull that DV movie file into DVDSP (if I'm going that direction) and let the defaults to their job. Clean, fast, predictable results. Your output efficiency depends on your image sizes and effects and nesting so I carefully reduce the size of my stills, preplan nests, and prerender/reimport where possible
I don't see where you are having a problem unless you are simply misinformed. You must render out of Motion or you must render the .motn project file from within another app like FCP but it's going to be processed in exactly the same way as if you have rendered out of Motion.
You CAN set up Quemaster to run batces using all of your Mac's cores as separate rendering engines but that gains you nothing in Motion projects, usually, since you only have one graphic card. And Quemaster, despite a few success stories on that forum, remains a cruel joke.

  • Export from Motion/Aspect ratio in Quicktime

I have created my first HDV (1080i60) graphic in M3. When I export as a quicktime movie, the preview that M3 generates at the end of the export looks perfect - when I open that movie in Quicktime, the whole thing is squished together. I assume this has to do with pixel aspect ratio - I just can't figure out where the fix is here because the pixel aspect is obviously set correctly in my Motion project (1.33) Is there a setting in quicktime that I am missing that is causing the playback of my Motion animation to appear squeezed?

Yeah, sorry, I should've included that the inspector in Quicktime says that both the "Normal" and "Current" sizes are 1440x1080. This is no huuuuggggeee deal, I just wanted to show some people the graphic using just quicktime. I eventually am going to import this into an FCP sequence, but I would like to have this portable version to show on quicktime.
+Quicktime maybe doesnt see this and is showing it at the correct pixel size without adjustment+
Not sure what that comment means - the correct pixel aspect is the one coming from Motion (1.33) Is there really no way to just bring this project into quicktime and play it properly - without looking squeezed? I feel like I should be able to find some preference in quicktime that lets me switch from viewing square pixels to viewing anamorphic pixels.
    Thanks a bunch Adam.

  • Best way to export from Motion 2 into Final Cut Pro 5, working in DV?

I am working in DV in Final Cut Pro 5, and I would like to get the best quality from anything I bring in from Motion 2 into Final Cut Pro 5, I keep hearing use the Animation codec. I would like to hear from the Panel of experts.
    Happy Thanksgiving,
    Sebastian

The Best way is to round-trip from FCP. Or simply import the .motn file directly into FCP. If you require an alpha channel and for some reason don't want to bring the .motn file in, Animation with millions+ for the colors (+ is the alpha channel) will work, But if you just want straight DV, you should export a DV file.

  • Exporting from Motion as MPEG 2 - won't happen - please help!

I have a 3 minute Motion sequence that I can't export in Compressor - it takes over 5 hours to get halfway through the process. It looks as though Compressor has crashed, it goes so slow.
Basically I need to make a DVD in DVDSP, urgently. I exported as an H264 Quicktime, which was a breeze, but that comes up as incompatible format when I import this asset into DVDSP.
What to do? Another CODEC? What MPEG 2 setting might work in Compressor?

    Urgent?
Your workflow is way out of whack, there's no need to over-resolve your output format which is SD MPGE2. You can export out of Motion using any codec that doesn't create a file with larger specifications than are necessary, you'd just be wasting all of your time and effort.
You can be working in a Motion project that has the same frame specs as MPEG2 or just plain ol' DV.
You export out of Motion and then put that movie into Compressor to do your MPEG2 but "urgent" is the key term here. Just put the exported Motion movie into DVDSP and let DVDSP do the encode for you, saves a bit of effort, not really any time.

  • What settings when exporting from motion?

If you are going back to FCP, save the Motion project and import that. It can be treated exactly the same way you would a video clip.

  • Exporting from imovie to quicktime movie

I have a 1080i HD movie in imovie I want to export to a quicktime file. In imovie the file is 50 gigabites. When I export at full quality it turns it from 16:9 to 4:3. When I go to expert settings and render it to a quicktime movie only the sound comes through...no video. This only happens with this particular movie. Other short movies I have are compressed to quicktime in HD just fine. I need suggestions how to render this from imovie to quicktime so I can keep the video in HD.

I tried that and it makes a file without
    video...sound only.
Itsounds like you didn't have the Sound box checked.

  • Error 108 exporting from keynote to quicktime

hi to all, i know this problem is already questioned, but after reading all the posts about it and after have tried all the possible solutions i cannot export my presentation from keynote 5 to quicknote. i still got the same error 108. the first time i've tried everything worked fine with a presentation of 400 slides full of hyperlink and images with the same transistion (  i still had no idea about the bug ). so i need to do one again bigger of 656 slides with hyperlink and images and the transition.so i tried again to export it... then it started troubles. the 108 error was shown to me for the first time. after that i try many times with small groups of slides from my presentation with hyper link and without them, with transitions and without them... and the result was that sometimes i cannot export one slide neither!!!!!!!!!!!!! one slide white, without anything...
please do you have any idea about it? the other way to see my presentation on a pc means a lot of stupid work campared to a apparently simply export from keynote to quick time
    thank you in advance

Yeah, me too. Bump. Can anybody explain this behavior?!?

  • Can't Export from FCE to QuickTime Movie w/o recompression

I have problems with choosing the correct settings for export of a FCE video clip to QuickTime Movie. I want the best possible quality (without recompression).
    In the manual it says:
"Exporting a Self-Contained Movie Without Recompressing the Media
If you choose to export a self-contained movie, you have the option to not recompress the media in your clip or sequence. If you deselect the Recompress All Frames option and choose Current Settings from the Setting pop-up menu, Final Cut Express simply copies frames from existing media files into the new file with no recompression."
I can't find that option in FCE 4.01 - is it a mistake in the manual? My source media was captured from miniDV tape and the captured media file has the following formate:
Codec: DV/DVCPRO - NTSC, Linear PCM, Timecode
    Color profile: SD (6-1-6)
    Total bit rate: 29,794
My exported file has this format:
    Dimensions: 720 x 480
    Codec: Linear PCM, H.264
    Color Profile: SD (6-1-6)
    Audio Channels: 2
    Total bit rate: 2,151
I have seen this question in the FCE archive and people simply say there is no recompression in FCE Export to QT Movie, but clearly there is since I see the H.264 codec listed in my output file and the bit-rate is a about 1/14th the rate of the original source material. The output file size is also much smaller. What gives. How can I get an unrecompressed file out of FCE so I can send it to a coworker for futher editing with his FCE.

Does anyone else have anything to add to this thread. I'm, sure I'm using Export to QuickTime Movie and not using QuickTime Conversion and from the file specifications I've given above, it is clear that a 14:1 compression took place.

    Double check:
There are only three options in the QuickTime Movie export window.
    1. Include: The Audio and Video, Audio Only or Video Only.
    2. Markers: Select whateve you want or don't want.
    3. The Make Movie Self-Contained selection check box.
    Is this what  you see?
The export will mirror the Sequence or selected part of the Sequence.

  • Export from Motion to FCP

I am editing a few title card for a project that will eventually return to FCP. I built title cards in Motion and now I getting prepared to export. Obviously, I want the graphics & logo to look as good as possible and I wanted to know what codec to export on to best integrate to FCP?
The FCP sequence settings are 1280x720, pixel aspect ratio: Square, frame rate 59.94. Any good advice to a novice? Animation? ProRes HD?
    Thanks.
    best,
    brighamcottam
ps. I will also be doing it for lower 3rds if that changes anything.

    Patrick Sheffield wrote:
Why not just bring the Motion project (.motn file) directly into FCP?
    No export necessary.
    Patrick
Yar, this works if the OP's workflow is adapted to the procedures. Just personally, mine is not. Deeply rooted habits from Ye Olde After Effects: I like having the rendered movies available as media.
To the OP's other question about the codec choice, Animation vs ProRes. The only reason to use Animation is if you know why you're using it: alpha. If you need the alpha and you want to stay in ProRes territory, you must use 4444. The last of those fours represents the alpha channel.

  • Exporting from Keynote to quicktime messing with timing

Hello, I have been searching the discussion board, but I have not found anything that answers my question.
I have created a slide show in Keynote where each slide is on screen for 2 seconds, then transition for 2 seconds. I exported it to Quicktime, where, when I play it as just a Quicktime movie it looks right.
However, when I drag the Quicktime movie into iDVD, the slides are only on screen for 1 second with a 1 second transition. I am only draging and dropping the Quicktime, so why is it changing, and how could it possible change from a saved file?

Yeah, me too. Bump. Can anybody explain this behavior?!?

  • Export from Motion - Soft in FCP

I created a graphic in motion, output it into fcp and the type and graphics are a bit soft.
The export was to a DVCPro DV Quicktime file.
    Anyone else notice this?

How do you fake a roundtrip?
I think I was talking out of my left nostril there.
What I meant was something like sending a clip on a roundtrip through motion, though you don't use the clip at all. Thus avoiding the file step.
    Now I think it's a terribly ill-conceived idea.
Somebody else just posted the same problem, as far as I can tell:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=816621&tstart=0
This makes it a Real Issue.
