Does you camera have an iLink (Firewire) interface and 4 Pin to 6 Pin Cable?
Regards,
Edit: Looks like your camera is an analog camera. You'll need a AV/DV interface.

  • Importing video from Sony 120GB HDD Camcorder

Looking for help on importing video from Sony 120GB HDD Camcorder.
I recently purchased a new imac (1st mac) and imported the stored video on my Sony 120GB HDD camcorder. I would estimate that this is approximately 60-80 GB worth of video on the camcorder but when I imported this has become over 800GB on my imac and basically fills the HD.
My question is - is this normal or am I doing something wrong.
    Cheers

Unfortunately the video from the current crop of High Def capable cameras use a really highly compressed file format to save video. The one most used is called AVCHD and it can really save a lot of space ON THE CAMERA if you like to shoot at the highest resolution. However to edit that video, it needs to be decompressed so that iMovie can preview it, and edit it accurately down to the individual video frame level (1/30th of a second). So the short answer is you're not doing anything wrong, those video clips can expand up to 40-75GBytes per hour of video after they are imported into the iMovie Events folders. However it is entirely possible to store the iMovie Events folders on an additional external hard drive. And that's usuallly the best solution for anyone quickly running out of space.

  • IMovie '09 Won't Import HD Content from Sony HDR-SR11 Camcorder

    Hi,
iMovie stopped importing HD content from Sony HDR-SR11 camcorder. It only recognizes the standard definition content in the preview thumbnails. Previously this used to work with both a FireWire cable and a Mini USB. All of a sudden it doesn't import HD clips. There's no plugin failure either, because I reinstalled iMovie '09.
    System Specifications:
    Intel iMac 20" (Late 2008)
    Intel Core 2 Duo@ 2.4 GHz.
    4 GB RAM
    Snow Leopard (10.6.4)
    Thanks!

With this camera you must erase the SD clips from the camera before you can import the HD clips.

  • Does Premiere Elements support video from Sony HDR-XR160 camcorder???

I have premiere elements 12 and I cannot get it to download video files taken with a Sony AVCHD camcorder HDR-XR160.

Answers will be in the details. As a generalization, probably yes.
On what computer operating system is your Premiere Elements 12 running on? Have you updated 12 to the 12.1 Update? If not, please do so using an opened project's Help Menu/Update.
What are the properties of your source media that you are trying to import into your Premiere Elements project?
    AVCHD.mts or AVCHD.mp4, 1920 x 1080 @ 60 progressive frames per second or other?
How are you trying to import files from your Sony HDR-XR160
    a. Add Media/Videos from Flip or Camera/Video Importer - involves USB connection between camera and computer on which Premiere Elements is installed
    or
    b. Add Media/Files and Folders from the hard drive save location to where your files have been transferred from camera to computer.
Try setting the project preset manually first
    NTSC AVCHD 1080p60
and then importing the 1080p60 into the project with that Add Media/Videos from Flip or Camera/Video Importer or Add Media/Files and Folders.
See details of manually setting project preset toward the bottom of the following blog
ATR Premiere Elements Troubleshooting: PE11: Accuracy of Automatic Project Preset (New Project Dialog) Setting
If your program is on a Mac computer, use the AVCHD.mp4 choice instead of the AVCHD.mts choice or convert the AVCHD.mts to
AVCHD.mp4 if your are dealing with videos already recorded.
More details will help us to help you.
    Thank you.

  • Importing video from Sony Hard Drive Camcorder to Powerbook G4 17"

After some work, I have found that I must use both QuickTime and MPegStreamclip to import both video and sound. However, once the transfer is complete I notice in playback that when the suject moves quickly the edges appear jagged and unclear around the body movement. How can I correct this?
The camcorder does not use firewire only USB transfer or AV. The video is beautiful except for this.
Camcorder: Sony DCR-SR100 30gb Hard drive
    Powerbook: G4 17" 1.5GHz, 1gb ddr sddram
    Someone please help.

The only thing that I can think of is purchasing a video capture box such as a Formac Studio DV and plugging the camcorder into the Formac using AV output cables and then importing through the Formac's firewire port. Does that make sense?

  • Problems importing from Sony DRC-SR40 camcorder

I can connect the camcorder thru USB. I open the icon that appears on my desktop and see all the MPG’s. But iMovie will not recognize them. Quicktime will not open them—error message says it can’t “parse” it, whatever that means. I can view the movies on my computer only with the “VLC media player” which I had to download from Apple. My questions are:
    1) Do I need Quicktime Pro or is there no way Quicktime will run these videos?
    2) Anything I can do so that iMovie will recognize and import them?
    3) I’m new to camcorders, so is it stupid to say that I thought I would be able to burn videos to a blank DVD and play them on my television DVD player? Is that possible?

iM is meant to import lossless from miniDV camcorders, using the same codec, called 'dv' ...-
your device is recording in a socalled playback-format, mpeg2 ... usually not meant to be processed...
    you're options are..:
    * buy/get * Apple mpeg2 plugin (19$) + Streamclip (free) ; drag'n drop files from device onto your Mac's harddrive ... install both apps and open files with Streamclip; convert/export to 'dv-stream' ....
    or ...
    * 'edit' in Streamclip (=just 'cut'), use Toast 7/8 to burn mpegs directly to a videoDVD...
    or ...
    * purchase http://www.pixela-1.com/captympeg_editex/ for handling such files.. no iLife support...
    or ...
    * 'swap' your recording device to a nice miniDV camcorder... << iLife is made for ...
    2) no.
usb connected/'mpeg' devices are NOT supported by iM nor iDVD ...
    3) iM + iDVD (iLife at all) is MADE for that purpose..

  • Can't import from Sony DCR-SR200 camcorder

Just upgraded to iMovie 08 as I was told my Sony DCR-SR200 was supported at the Apple Store. Also see it listed as a supported camcorder on Apple's support site. Perhaps I'm doing something wrong?
The HDD of the camera comes up on the desktop as a disk drive but iMovie says a it does not detect a connected camcorder. I can even try to manually import the files and again, iMovie see the HDD as a mounted disk but the MPEG-2 file are grayed out and can't be imported -- even though the dialog box states that it supports MPEG-2 files. I've tried various combinations of when I connect the camera -- before I start iMovie, after, etc but nothing seems to work.
I'm running a dual 2GHz PowerPC G5 with Mac OS 10.4.11. Using USB to connect the camcorder.
    - Connectless in Seattle

Exactly. That's what we had to do before we were promised iMovie '08 would solve the problem! I've seen someone say it works with the dcr-sr300, which is the same camera, only with a bigger harddrive.

A very strange thing just happened. While I was writing the first post, I was downloading and installing mpeg-streamclip, and I let it start to convert my movies. Simultaneously, in the background, iMovie suddenly recognized my camera(?), with all the thumbnails appearing in the lower window. mpeg-streamclip was not even done converting the movies, but in iMovie, it looked as though all the movies were ready to be imported. Also, before mpeg-streamclip started the conversion, it asked for the Quicktime plugin, which I have backed up somewhere, but did not bother to install. I proceeded to convert anyway, although it alerted me that it needed to fix timecode breaks. I guessed it would be fine to say OK to that.
Could it be that I simply did not give iMovie enough TIME to recognize the camera.
Since I don't know what helped, I suggest doing exactly what I did. Try downloading mpeg-streamclip from the squared5 website mentioned above, have iMovie running and click on the first "computer" button on the camera's screen to connect to the computer. I had to wait about 5 minutes. I will try this again.
Well, you seem to need to give a 2004 2.5 GHz G5 about 5 minutes to recognize your camera. Everything comes to him who waits. I'm still not sure whether this happened simply because I had mpeg-streamclip installed, or if I never waited long enough before to let iMovie recognize my camera.
It'd be nice if someone knowledgeable solved the mystery.

  • Does IMovie 11 support GPS importing from Sony HDR-XR550VE camcorder?

All files downloaded OK and no problems with projects etc. GPS is always enabled on the camcorder, however, IMovie dies not seem to recognise it. I have searched in help topics in IMovie 11 but cannot find anything in relation to 'places", "locations", "GPS" etc. Can someone assist? Thank you.

iMovie does not recognize GPS metadata. This is not a feature of iMovie.
The only place you can use GPS data is in the Maps feature, and you enter the coordinates yourself.

  • Transfer video from Sony Digital8 to Macbook Pro

I have a few movies on a Sony Handycam Hi8 camcorder that I want to transfer to my Macbook Pro but I have no idea how to do it or what cords to use.  I was thinking about calling Crutchfield to find out how to do it but I wanted to ask here on this forum first.
    Anyone have any ideas?

  • Getting video Hi8 8mm tape into MacBook--via another camcorder??

I offered to take the video from our school's music program and put it through its paces in iMovie to make a DVD for the school.
I figured that this would be no problem. I've used the school's Sony Mini DV Digital Handycam (DCR-TRV18) before and simply plugged the firewire cable into my Mac and imported.
I later found out that the video was shot with a different camera--a Sony video Hi8 (CCD-TRV43) that uses 8mm tapes. I'm not even seeing a firewire connection on the camera--just black and yellow audio and video RCA input jacks.
Is there anyway to do what I need to do with these two pieces of equipment? Can I somehow hook the 8mm camera into the mini-DV camera and then into my MacBook via firewire? Sort of the through-put that I hear about?
Since this is for school and a one-time occurrence, I really don't want to have to purchase any additional equipment.

I really don't want to have to purchase any additional equipment.
    You may have to.
To get your Sony Hi8 video into iMovie, look at the Canopus ADVC300. Audio and Video go in, FireWire comes out. It also comes with a nice Macintosh application that works flawlessly with iMovie 06 and iDVD 08/09 (I have used it a few times with iMovie 08 and 09).
The program that comes with the ADVC300 has some nice filters that can improve video and audio of the source material. The ADVC300 will take Audio and Video from any source and convert it to FireWire (iMovie will treat it like a camera).
    http://www.canopus.com/products/ADVC300/index.php
I would use iMovie 06 with iDVD 08/09, why?
iMovie 08/09 uses 'single field processing' meaning every other horizontal line of the video is thrown out, which reduces the sharpness of the footage. iMovie 06 uses ALL of the image to form the video.
If your primary workflow is editing DV clips and making DVDs, iMovie '06 is better suited. Your movie will arrive at iDVD in DV format, which is an ideal match for making a DVD: same resolution, same pixels aspect ratio, and original quality. If you share your movie from iMovie '08 / 09, it gets re-rendered at 640x480 or less, and then iDVD upscales it back to 720x480. The end result is obviously not as good.
iMovie 06 and iDVD 08/09 is a "lossless" combination.

  • Looking for help getting imovie to recognize sony DCR-SR47 camcorder

Has anyone been able to up load to imovie from sony DCR-SR47 camcorder?

It depends on which camcorder you have.
If it records onto miniDV tape (..or "microMV" tape..) then you definitely need to use FireWire; nothing else will do. Buy one at any electronics store; it's called a FireWire or DV or i.Link cable. It must have a teeny 4-pin connector at one end (..to plug into the camera..) and a larger 6-pin connector at the other end (..to plug into your Mac..)
..unless you have a new MacBook Pro, which needs a slightly different shaped 9-pin FireWire 800 connector instead of the 6-pin connector.
You cannot use a USB connection for tape-based camcorders, even if they have a USB socket ..as that's just for transferring stills, not video.
If your camcorder does NOT shoot onto tape, then you'll need to transfer via USB. That applies for all chip-based and hard-drive based camcorders, and - I think - DVD-based camcorders.
All current AVCHD camcorders use USB.
If in doubt (..but there should be no doubt..) read the camcorder's instruction book. If you can't find the instructions, download them from the manufacturer's website ..almost all instructions are available online.
But if it needs FireWire - if it's a tape-based camcorder - you CANNOT use USB.

  • How can I import an mp4 file from my video camera into my iPad ?

I'm totally new to this iPad world.  I would like to import a file from my video camera to edit it in iMovies.  I tried adding the file through iTunes, and it appeared to transfer the file to my iPad, but I can't find any way to open the file, not even to play it.  Any help would be appreciated.

The time should already be shown on the status bar, but you can't add the day and/or date to it - if you would like to have them then you coul leave feedback for Apple : http://www.apple.com/feedback/ipad.html
If you want to copy an attachment from an email then you can't do that directly from the Mail app. If the email is still on your provider's server then you should be able to read the email on your provider's site via a browser on your computer and save it from there directly on your computer. Otherwise you will need to copy the file from the Mail app to another app on your iPad via the 'open in' function. Do you have an app on your iPad that supports the type of file that you want to copy ? How you then copy the file to your computer will depend upon what the app that you copy it to supports - different apps have different ways of copying their content to/from a computer e.g. via the file sharing section at the bottom of the device's apps tab when connected to iTunes, via your wifi network, dropbox etc
