Exporting HD mpeg2 to cable lab standards for cable insertion. (VOD)

Can compressor export to cable lab standards? I have tried using the mpeg2 transport stream setting but that gets rejected from insertion.
these are the specs I need.
Multiplexed Stream:
MPEG -2 Transport
481 Video PID
482 Audio PID
19.0 mbps
Video:
MPEG-2 Elementary
1920 x 1080i frame size
Main Profile | High Level
16:9 Aspect
29.97 or telecine
M = 3
N = 15 for 30 fps
N = 12 for 24 fps
Audio:
Dolby AC3
Can someone please help!

Your going to need proper multiplexing software to match with CableLabs PID's
Manzanita Systems has a great app to handle the task

Trying to export to MPEG2 with audio from fcp studio to broadcast over cable, anyone know how to do this.

So, you need a muxed file? You may need to buy Sorenson Squeeze and check the station for the exact settings or the web for settings files. (i.e. I found a Fast Channel setting online somewhere)

  • Premiere CS4 exporting to MPEG2, changes timeline??

I've been using Premiere CS4 to edit my videos.  Once the video is complete I do a file > export > media to use Media Encoder to save the media in various formats, one of them being MPEG2.  In the timeline for each video I have 3 seconds of black at the start and 10 seconds at the end.  I just noticed today that when I export to MPEG2, the created MPG file has the black trimmed off both ends, and it apparently stretches the video to fill the full time length somehow.  So if my show should fade to black at 28:00 normally (as it does on the timeline), with 10 seconds of black until 28:10, when I view the created MPG file the video start immediately instad of waiting 3 seconds, and it will fade out the video at 28:10 and not have my 10 seconds of trailing black. So it must be stretching the whole video to fill in that extra 10 seconds.  It only does this with exporting to an MPEG2 file, the AVI and WMV files I export into using the same timeline are fine.
I had never noticed this before on the 20+ shows I've previously exported, I never even thought about going back and checking out the actual end time for the MPG versions because it was fine on other formats.  Apparently this is something not isolated to this computer I'm using because I went back to my old laptop and did an export the same way on an old video and it did the same thing.  I'm stumped.
Any help on how to be able to export to an MPEG2 file exactly what I have on the timeline like the other formats do would be appreciated.
    Thanks.

    Hi Ann,
The sequence length is the same in Premiere as it is when I play it in media player.  They both clock in at 28:10, but the exported mpg plays differently somehow.  When I play it on the sequence my show fades to black at exactly 28:00, and then I have 10 seconds of black, that’s how I want it to be.  When I play the exported mpg file in media player it doesn’t fade out the show until 28:10, and there’s no 10 seconds of black at the end, it just ends after the fade out.  The software appears to be stretching the video to make 28:00 of video fit into a 28:10 length file, but since 10 seconds over 28 minutes isn’t that much it’s not noticeable when I watch it.
I just tried what you said to do… I took the exported MPG and pulled it back into Premiere and played it on the timeline, and it is playing it properly in there with the 10 sec of black at the end and timing it correctly.  I don’t get it!  It only shows up correct in Premiere, I’ve tried in both WMP and Real player and they’re doing the same thing.  But my avi and wmv version exports all play properly in WMP.  Very strange!
    Thanks for your help.

  • How About Some Standard Standards For Keyword Hierarchy?

After reading Wolf Eilers post in the "Respect Keyword Hierarchy when importing" thread, I tried his example and exported a RAW file with the "Outdoor>Landscape" example he gave and then re-imported the jpeg. It came back in with Landscape as the parent of Outdoor, that is backwards from what I intended. Go figure.
If LR respects ">" as indicating a parent-child relationship between keywords it is fine with me. However, Microsoft decided to use "/" because there is apparently no XMP standard for keyword hierarchies. Wouldn't it be nice if Adobe, Microsoft, and Apple too got together and set a defacto standard for keyword hierarchies. As it is now, I can create a keyword "Outdoor/Landscape" in LR and have it appear in Vista Photo Gallery with Landscape as a child of Outdoor. However, if re-imported into LR it comes in as "Outdoor/Landscape". Can't we just all get along?

Absolutely no. A completely pointless exercise. As there can be no standard for such a thing. As people have so many, very different ways of filing things. It like suggesting that we all use the same folder tree for filing on our computers. Our relationship to keywords and their meaning will change.
Take Brad Pitt, would you put him under Actor, celebrity or relative. His mum would file him under Son/Family.
What about places. I use UK, Europe, Asia, Africa...as top level domains. Now someone who lives in Japan would have Japan as home and the UK as Europe/UK. Some people may like to file musical acts by city of origin, others by genre, neither is wrong and both are correct for the right person. Being able to do both would be even better.
You just design a heirachy that suits yourself. Adobe just has to find a way of respecting that and allowing you to transfer that heirarchy intact between apps.
Someone else posted this example of heirachy. Which will work well for some, but not for others. Plus, in context of what you ask, remember everyone's family structure is different so how can you possibly have a 'standard' heirachy.
    http://www.flickr.com/photo_zoom.gne?id=98612897&size=o
In your example above, I wouldn't use Outdoor and Landscape as Landscape. As for my filing I simply do not have an inside and outside category. I probably wouldn't even have a landscape category either, I would file them under location in a heirachical tree like UK/Wales/West Glamorgan/Gower/Rhosilli/Headland. I may add Landscape as a key word, but would not use it as a category as the heirachy tree above makes more sense to me as I can remember where things are.
I also file everthing by date in my OS as I can remember when I took things reasonably well and that ensures I have a coherent filing system onto which I can apply a database.

  • Exporting to mpeg2 using Quicktime compression - render problems

Using FCP Studio 5.1 to export to DVD, FCP keeps asking for file to be rendered even after we have rendered complete movie. There are no green or red bars, so why does FCP not accept this as a full render?
We are exporting using mpeg2 Quicktime compression, not Compressor 2.
    Is there a work-round?

  • Export to mpeg2 does not work?

I have updated to QT7 and brought FCP Studio2 which also asks to update to latest revision of which I now have QT 7.2, I have noticed that exporting to mpeg2 no longer is an option in my list. I have been through this forum and noted other problems with 7.2 and also renewed my QT Pro Key again for QT7 and re brought mpeg2 play back again to see if this solves the problem, but it doesn't.
Any other ideas before trying to get a refund back from Apple? are they on the case to fix all these issues with QT7.

Converting a video to mpeg-2 has moved to Compressor. Is no longer an option in Qt.
Why would you buy Qt 7 Pro when it comes free in FCP same with the mpeg-2 component?
If you go to the mpeg-2 component page on Apple's site.
    http://www.apple.com/quicktime/mpeg2/
In big letters it says, "MPEG-2 Playback." Nowhere does it state on that page that you can use the component to make mpeg-2 videos, only play them. You can transcode to another codev using the mpeg-2 component.

  • Export to MPEG2 with 4:2:2 chroma...  is it possible? Where are the setting

I don't see how you can specify colour sampling in compressor... can you export to MPEG2 format with 4:2:2 from an uncompressed 10bit 4:2:2 file???
Final Cut cannot directly output mpeg2 so i'm interested if anyone else knows of a compression program for MAC where you can be SURE it's exporting 4:2:2 or you can specify in an option?
    Thanks!

    Hey Bono11,
unfortunately, compressor only has the MPEG2, DVD compliant algorithm.
what this mean for you is:
resolutions of 720x480 or 720x576 in 4:2:0 that are interlaced (MainProfile@MainLevel).
however, the newsest version of Compressor also offers MainProfile@HighLevel with limitations of 1920x1080 in 4:2:0 that are progressive which can be used for "HD DVD".
the bottom line is that you cannot use compressor to create 4:2:2 MPEG2 files.
you would need a MPEG2 encoder, NOT a DVD MPEG2 encoder (like compressor).
of course you can create other files that do have 4:2:2 since compressor, at it's root is a transcoder.
also, when you look for an MPEG2 encoder, it will be a litter steep, price wise.
why would you want to create a 4:2:2 file anyway. are you creating a mastering file? does it have to be a Program stream or can it be a transport stream file?

  • Exporting as MPEG2 DVD or MPEG2 Blu-ray makes my clips shorter!?

    Hi,
Firstly - I am shooting footage on a Panasonic HDC-HS300 using the 1080i 25 default setting, and importing the AVCHD file as such into Premiere Pro CS4 v.4.2.1.
My aim is to get the best image quality results possible using a workflow where I take the raw AVCHD footage (possibly converted to AVI first) into Premiere Pro, Dynamic Linking to After Effects for color correction etc, and Dynamic Linking back to Premiere Pro for final export/render in several different formats for several different purposes.
    Anyway - Here's the problem:
I have been playing with different ways to do this (for MANY hours), and have found that whenever I attempt to export/render out from Premiere Pro with Adobe Media Encoder using either the MPEG2 DVD or MPEG2 Blu-ray (both using the default HDTV 1080i 25 settings), I end up with clips that are shorter than the original clips! For example, I have been editing a clip that was originally 56 seconds long, but after the export/render it is only 48 seconds long.
To make things even stranger, the accompanying audio file that is rendered out along side the MPEG video file not shortened and comes out as 56 seconds long, as it is supposed to be.
    Someone please help....?
    Thanks
    Mikkel
P.S. If I were to convert the AVCHD to an AVI format, which would be the best applications and formats to do so?

Firstly - The reason for converting AVCHD to AVI is because despite Adobe claiming that CS4 is native AVCHD, the reality is that if I import AVCHD and edit it in Premiere Pro, color correct in After Effects and then render it out from Premiere Pro, I end up with either very significant judder or artifacts in the final result. I stress that this only happens when the input into Premiere Pro is AVCHD, NOT when I use converted (lossless - Lagarith) AVI as my input. In other words, it DOES serve a purpose to convert AVCHD to AVI first.
Secondly - I am NOT using 29.97 or 30 fps.
I am exporting in MPEG2 HDTV 1080i25 (i.e. 25 fps, which is the only available option for this preset), as I wrote in my original post...

  • Exporting a mpeg2 to burn onto a dvd

Hi,  I am using adobe premiere elements 8.
Basically I have lots and lots of mp2t video files which I recorded with a full HD (1920 x1080) panasonic camera.  I need to burn them on a dvd  and I have tried several times in premiere elements but it produces an error code and can't complete. I've re installed the program several times and on different computers.
So I thought after weeks of throwing dvd's away, maybe I could export the files in premiere elements to a MPEG 2 dvd file and then use a dvd authoring software like dvd maker.
I would like to know what settings would get the best quality in adobe premiere elements on the advanced settings on the multiplexer and video settings?  I put the bit rate the highest it would go and the quality to the maximum.
The other thing that has me completely puzzled is the aspect ratio.  Do I choose 4:3 or 16:9?
I have tried to use video to dvd software in the past and all it does is stretches the image and doesn't give you an option to keep the original aspect ratio of the imported video.  I can't even find out what the aspect ratio is because when I import it into gspot it doesn't give me any information.
    any help would be appreciated.

    sarasounds
Could you post a screenshot of the error message that you are getting when you burn to DVD your video in Premiere Elements 8.0/8.0.1 or post word for word what it says? The rest of what I am about to write becomes meaningless without that information.
The basic drill with Premiere Elements 8 is
    a. Do you have the automatic background rendering and AutoAnalzyer features turned Off?
    b. Are you working from the 8.0.1 Update?
You say that your video is "Full HD 1920 x 1080". That could be interlaced or progressive. In your case of a DVD-VIDEO destination, your choices for project preset are:
    a. NTSC/AVCHD/Full HD1080i30
and apply Field Options/Reverse Field Dominance to the video at the Timeline Level if interlaced video
    OR
    b. NTSC/Hard Disk Flash Memory Camcorders/HD 1080i30
For burn to DVD-VIDEO format on DVD disc....
    Share
    Disc
    DVD disc
with preset for NTSC_Widescreen_Dolby DVD (so you have a 16:9 source going to a 16:9 end product)
Many found that the resource demands of AVCHD (various sized project) were not met by Premiere Elements 8.0/8.0.1 and opted to convert the video to a less resource demanding format such as MPEG2 HD 1920 x 1080. Other means were explored as well (proxy methods and such). These considerations as they relate to later versions of Premiere Elements and operating systems can be discussed if applicable.
I would explore the above and burn to disc.
A better choice than export as MPEG2 file might be to burn to folder and then take the VIDEO_TS from the saved folder to DVD-VIDEO on DVD disc with a 3rd party software such as ImgBurn. Lots of possibilities.
More later once we find out the nature of the error messages associated with the burn to disc process.
    Thanks.

  • Export 1080 x 1440 to HD stream for later blu ray authour

This might be more of a compressor question really but whats the best way to export 1080 x 1440 to HD stream for later blu ray authour.
In compressor I have 2 settings, 1 is a 60 min h264 HD. Is this what I should use so I can make a Hi Def master when the time comes?
    Daz

Have the same problem. My solution: If you don't need advanced authoring, simply buy Toast 9 with HD plugin, export your footage from FCP as Apple ProRes and drag to Toast - it will do all the encoding in h264 (no more MPEG2)... My problem with this workflow is, that Toast supports only 2 channels of audio, so I'm going to but DVDit HD, which supports LPCM 7.1. Then I export as ProRes from FCP, make h264 BD compactible stream in Toast and make the authorization in DVDit HD... This is the best solution I figured out (I need 7.1 surround)...

  • Why video exported with Mpeg2 format look brightner than input files?

This is my example work file.
From Left I import MOV files to Editing in Premiere Pro
and Right I Export to Mpeg2 fornamt for my com(.mpg) and write to DVD(.m2v).
How I setting in export window for right color like oiginal file?
    Or I did something wrong?
    Thanks.

Along with the viewer difference, that GLenn alludes to, remember that MPEG-2 is a highly-compressed CODEC, and some data will be lost in the Export process. Some of that lost data will be in the chroma area, and also in the luminance area. These changes might well be noticed in a side-by-side monitoring.
As a test, Export to MOV w/ the Animation CODEC, and check that output against the original.
    Good luck,

  • CS5.5 Export to MPEG2 Choice Slow Down

Every time I choose the MPEG2 option on the export screen, I get the spinning circle for several minutes before I can do anything else. Also happens on...
    Audio Only
    H.264
    H.264 Blu-Ray
    MPEG2-Blu Ray
    MPEG2-DVD
All other options like AVI or Quicktime come up immediately.
I can export to these options, it just takes a long time for the options to come up.
This slow down also happens in the Adobe Media Encoder.
Any ideas why this is happening and how to fix it? I tried installing on a different machine and do not have this issue.
    Windows 7 Pro 64bit
    i7 with 24gb memory
    GTX570 video card

Super quick and easy fix from Matrox -
If you find that switching the export format in the Export Settings dialog
box sometimes takes a long time, such as when you switch from Microsoft
AVI to MPEG2-DVD, rename the SurCodeWrapper.vca file on your system
(for example, rename the file to SurCodeWrapper.vca.bak). This file is
usually installed by Adobe Premiere Pro in the following folders:
    C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Premiere Pro CS5\MediaIO\codecs\
    C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Media Encoder CS5\MediaIO\codecs\

  • In SSRS , after exporting report in excel, wrap text property for cell and freeze column for SSRS table header not working in Excel

I am working no one SSRS my table headers are freeze cangrow property is false and my report is working perfect while rendering data on RDL and i want same report after exporting in Excel also , i want my table header to be freeze and wrap text property
to work after exporting in my report in excel but its not working ,is there any solution ? any patch ? any other XML code for different rendering ?

    Hi Amol,
According to your description, you find the wrap text property and fix column is not working after exporting into Excel. Right?
In Reporting Services, when exporting to excel file, it has limitation for textbox.
Text boxes are rendered within one Excel cell. Font size, font face, decoration, and font style are the only formatting that is supported on individual text within an Excel cell.
Excel adds a default padding of approximately 3.75 points to the left and right sides of cells. If a text box’s padding settings are less than 3.75 points and is just barely wide enough to accommodate the text, the text may wrap in Excel.
In this scenario, it supposed to be wrap text unless you merge cells. If cells are merged, word-wrap does not work correctly. If any merged cells exist on a row where a text box is rendered with the
AutoSize property, autosize will not work. For the Fix Data Property, it can't be working in Excel. These are features when exporting to Excel. We can't change it because it's by design.
