Exporting HD Video Question

I have footage recorded by a Canon Vixia HG20 camcorder.  It films 1920x1080 HD video at 60i.  I am looking to edit this footing in Premiere Pro CS4 and am wondering what I should export the footage as to receive the absolute highest quality video.  I believe that an MPEG-2 video would be the best choice (not sure though, possibly AVI or other?)  Under the MPEG options there either 1440x1080 High Quality or multiple different HDTV options such as HDTV 1080i 30fps or HDTV 1080p 30fps and so on.  It seems that if i export this in progressive HD it has better color quality than the interlaced HD, but is not quite as clear of an image.  Also, I am unsure of what format the sequence should be in, either normal (square pixel 1920) or anamorphic 1440.  I believe it normal is a better choice because my camera shoots full 1920x1080 but again I am unsure.  Any help, ideas or suggestions would be much appreciated.

If it's DVD, then you've got to use MPEG2-DVD. You might also want to put 60 fps footage in a 30 fps sequence since it behaves much better (see my post "Problem with DL'd/keyed footage in HDV 720p60 sequence-CS4") located right behind yours and then look at this thread, which helped my get it right.
Hope this helps.

  • Exporting Final Video Question

    Hello,
I've made a music video using Final Cut Pro hD (version 4.5). All of the footage was shot on my digital camera (Canon PowerShot SD500) at 30 fps and at 640 x 480. I was able to import all the footage and somehow I was able to get the scaling and proportion right within FCP.
Now that I've done all my editing and the music video is complete, I am having difficulty exporting the final thing out.
    What happens:
    1. FCP will process for a while, and then it tells me that the system is out of memory. So, it doesn't end up printing the final movie.
    2. I tried exporting it in sections -- thinking that I could put them back together in QuickTime Pro. But the sections come out stretched too wide.
What are the proper settings? This is what I want:
    1. Even though this is a fairly lo-fi production, I want to be able to maintain the highest quality possible. I don't want to degrade it any more than it already is. What settings should I use for this so called "Master"?
    2. I know that I'll have to convert it to put it on to my website and youTube. What settings should I use for that?
I am confused by all the compression options, anoramic, interlaced, progressive, etc. I am still new to this. So any recommendation would be highly appreciated.
    Thanks
    Reuben

    1. The chapter markers have to be attached to the timeline, not to a clip, and conform to chapter marker restrictions. http://www.fcpbook.com/Misc3.html
    2. There is an export setting in QuickTime Conversion of iPod. This is not the same as exporting to QuickTime Movie and has to be done separately.
2b. Chapter markers aren't recognized on an iPod. You might be better off making separate movies for each section.

Do you have a specific question about video production?
The forums are for individual technical or creative issues that users have with video production. I am sur someone will be able to help you, but and to get a response it is best to ask a specific question.
Is this about a technical problem you have or something about setting up a web site? If its the latter this is the wrong forum.

  • Exporting a video that is 3 minutes and it keeps saying that it is 43 minutes

This seems like a strange problem. I have been duking it out with the frequently asked questions forums and nothing seems to address this problem.
Just to give you an idea of what I have going on.
I am using a mac book pro with OS X version 10.6.8 I have 2.4 Ghz intel core 2 duo and 4 GB 1067 MHZ DDR3
I have edited some video together of an interview. The original clip was about 20 minutes and I have cut it down to around 3 minutes 37 seconds. I made sure to go through and delete any scraps that would have been hanging out at the end of the time line. I have also tried putting timeline markers in at the beginning and end of the project. I have also pulled the grey start and finish bars to just the right places. at 00:00:00 and 03:37:14.
I have tried exporting other videos and everything worked just fine. But for some reason it keeps saying that this video is 43 minutes long and it adds 40 minutes of black to the end of it as well as making the file size really big. I am sending this video to a potential client and I need to keep it under 2 G.  I can't send it with 40 minutes of black on the end.
    I am using these settings
    presets NTSC DV 16:9
    file type Quick Time
    frame size 720x480
    frame rate 29.97
audio settings 48000 Hz stereo 16 bit
    Duration 43 minutes 16 seconds.
The worst and best thing is about this. I figured it out at the end of typing all of this
So if anybody has this problem
You have to check the box the says work space only

For the crashes, Reed, I would create a new Discussion/Thread, list your full computer specs., and then your Project specs. with complete detail of your Assets. This article will give you tips on the info that would be so useful: http://forums.adobe.com/message/4515849#4515849
Most users do not experience crashes, though too many do. The normal causes, and in this order are:
    System
    Assets
    Project settings
Also, be sure to list any error messages, that you receive with the crashes and hangs. This article goes into more detail, but it is more oriented to PC's, so only some will apply to a Mac: http://forums.adobe.com/thread/792580?tstart=0
Good luck, and hope that we can help with that "rogue" Orphan here, and then the crashing in your new thread.

  • Exporting multiple video tracks as 1 file with different effects on each track.

I am currently trying to export 3 video tracks as 1 mp4.
Each track has exactly the same footage, but with different effects to achieve a certain aesthetic.
When I view the sequence it in premiere all 3 tracks are displayed correclty.
The exported version appears to only export the uppermost track, track 3.
Track 2 and 3 have opacity set to 47%.
Track 1 opacity is set to 100%.
I have tried exporting a test project that has multiple layers and there was no problem.
I have NOT tried exporting a test project with exactly the same opacities and effects, as it's a bit time consuming. I will do so if I can't get a stisafctory solution from the forums.
The problem, I believe, is down to the layering of effects. In this case on track 3 I have procamp, which is boosting the red in 1 layer. This is the image I get once the final piece is exported - track 3's.
    So..
How do I get the effects of each layer to show properly in the export?
    and
Why is the exported version missing tracks (or the effects of tracks) 1 and 2?

You didn't answer probably the most important question: whether you're using hardware or software Mercury Playback Engine (MPE). However, since you've set Maximum Render Quality on, it's largely irrelevant.
When you're using hardware MPE or have the MRQ flag set for your export, rendering is performed with linear color. Linear color processing affects how color channels and alpha channels are composited--anything less than 100% opacity is subject to linear color processing. Check out this article for more information on linear color/linear light: Linear Light - Artbeats
Since it sounds like you're seeing the results you expect in the Program Monitor, but not export, I'll wager you're not using hardware MPE. Only by disabling the Maximum Render Quality flag on export will you be able to get results that match what you see in the Program Monitor (within reason, of course). The only way you could see the effects of linear color within Premiere would be to either use a qualified GPU that enables hardware MPE, or go into your Sequence Settings and check the "Maximum Render Quality" option and then render previews.
Please let me know if that helps resolve the issue, or at least provide a little insight into the problem.

Tesselator Tess: I'm not asking for support for the trial version at this point. I am asking for a department name.
Dilip: I am sorry, there is no Team that supports for Trial.
Tesselator Tess: How about for the purchased product?
Dilip: The Support for the Issue is available with our Photoshop Team but they can only help you with a valid Photoshop Serial Number.
Tesselator Tess: Is there a list of known issues on-line somewhere?
Tesselator Tess: there isn't at the two URLs you already provided BTW.
Dilip: I am sorry we do not have more information on that.
Tesselator Tess: OK, thanks. Do you realize that in the time it took to tell me "Sorry Charlie” 5 times you could have told me of a fix or looked in your DB for related issues?
    Tesselator Tess:
Dilip: I am sorry for the inconvenience.
    Tesselator Tess: Me too.
Dilip: Do you have any other questions for me?
Tesselator Tess: No, just those two.
Dilip: Thank you for contacting Adobe. Good Bye.
    This chat session has ended.

Is the trial version of Photoshop CC a function-limited (cripled) eddition or is it the full-featured version same as the purchased product? I had always thought they were the full versions but I thought I might check to make sure.

  • Exporting a video and improving the quality

I'm trying to export a video from adobe premiere CS5 but it doesn't begin it remains 0!! but yesterday i did that many times and it succeeded.

  • Lots of problems when exporting widescreen video

I've had similar problems to this before, but for now I'll just describe my current situation.
I shot a bunch of green screen footage in HD using a Canon XH-A1. I captured at 1080p in a 1080p HDV sequence. Everything was shot 16x9 HD using the camera's default HDV settings. I did add matte bars to give the film an artificial 2.35:1 look, though.
I had no problems with the edit at all, but when I attempt to export the video for both DVD and H264 for YouTube, it all gets crazy.
The first noticeable problem is that Premiere keeps cropping the sides of my image. If you switch from 'source' to 'output' in the preview pane you can see that portions of the image on the sides are missing. If I use a 1080p preset it looks like nothing is cropped, but for YouTube I need to do 1280x720 w/ square pixels, and for DVD I need to do 720x480 and with either of these options selected, the cropping begins.
So, my first question is, WTF is up with this cropping???
Another problem I'm having is that when I finally get the image to fill the entire 16x9 frame (through various tweaks in the many different presets - I'm not entirely sure what all I did), layers are arbitrarily moved around and thereofore placed out of sync with where they should be in my composites. Also, I always nest my final edit's sequence into another sequence so that I can crop the image to match the 2.35:1 bars (if you don't do this there's always a tiny little bit of the image underneath your matte bars that shows through when you project it).
    Wtf?
    Here are some visual aides:
Premiere cropping the sides on WS output:
    http://img18.imageshack.us/img18/3769/ppcs4wsoutputcropping.jpg
Premiere moving placement of layers in composite when outputted:
    http://img7.imageshack.us/img7/1182/ppcs4wsoutputlayersmess.jpg
    Anybody know what's up?
    Thanks!

Well, I've figured out a work-around for now...
It seems that PPro is having trouble nesting a 1080p sequence inside a 720p sequence and/or outputting a 1080p sequence to to anything other than full 1080p or 720p with anamorphic pixels at 960x720 (instead of 1280x720). I don't get it, but I found a way to get what I need... it just takes a while.
I was able to export my film to 720p H264 with anamorphic pixels. I then made a new project with a 720p sequence setting and dropped in my newly encoded 720p video. With the new project I was able to export the 720p video to any format I wanted without any of these cropping issues.
I'd still love to know what causes this.

  • Export Long Video

    Hi Everyone,
I´m going to start a project mainly motion graphics (in after effects), but the project require some editing and then exporting into an appropiate format.
I´ll be working with the standard preset in premiere for ntsc (DV - NTSC -- Standard 48 khz) and what i need know is, how do you recommend me to export the final video, which is going to be aprox. of 20-25 min long.
I´m not a regular premiere user (since i work with motion graphics in AE), but i made a test render to see how big the file will be and premiere crashed when the file reached 3gbs,i search for this problem at the internet and apparently premiere cannot export files bigger than 3gbs, does anyone know why?
Lastly and most import question, how do you recommend me to export the video to keep it with the best quality possible, but at the same time keeping it small enough so i can burn it into a data DVD (no more than 4 gbs for the entire sequence of 20-25min.).
I dont know if this is important, but i´ll be working on a pc with a core 2 quad of 3gbs with 3 gbs of ram.
    Thanks in advance!

I do not see what version of PrPro you are using, but for going to a DVD-Video, you will use an authoring app., like Adobe Encore. It can Import the DV-AVI Type II files, and will then Transcode these to a much smaller size via MPEG-2, the file type of a DVD-Video. Your Duration will easily fit onto a DVD-5 with maximum quality.
It that is your goal for a delivery scheme, it will be very simple.
    Good luck,
    Hunt
PS - Also comment on the formatting of your HDD's as per a question upthread. You will want NTSF, and NOT FAT-32.

  • How Do I Export A Video

Hey, I have what I hope is a quick and easy question.
I shot a low quality video using my cell phone, put in on my computer, edited it in iMovie 06 HD, and now want to export the video without losing ANY quality-that is, I want/need to keep the quality of the movie in its entirety. The problem is right now the file is 1.38 GB, and in a .dv format. What is the best way to convert .dv formatted files to a more "universal" format, and then upload said "high-quality" compressed/converted video to YouTube? Note: Whether or not YouTube can handle .dv file extensions is beside the point, I still would like to know how to compress a .dv file to decrease the size it occupies on my HD as well as be able to share it across several platforms, apps, etc. So far the converter in iMovie 06 HD is pretty bad, but maybe there is a setting, or a different application I can use.. Any thoughts?
If it helps, I have the current video software installed on my computer
    1. iMovie 06 HD
    2. iMovie 08 (the reason for re-installing iMovie 06) and,
    3. Final Cut Pro 5.1 (yeah...I know...what am I doing with this?)

The best codec to use out of iMovieHD is H.264. The higher the bit rate, the larger the file, the better the quality.
I think videos uploaded to YouTube get recompressed by them before going live on their site. They use Flash for video although they've been adding H.264 for AppleTV and iPhone/iTouch users. However even if they use H.264 they still might be recompressing your video to make it smaller which could decrease the quality from the original.
