Exporting HDV to Std Def - h.264 or Pro rez?

Can do the 'share' option but the idvd menus are far superior.  So exporting thru QT (not QT conversion), which would yield the better results h.264 or Pro rez 422?  And will set the idvd prefs to Best Performance.

Export to QuickTime using Current Settings (same as your Timeline) and Self Contained.
iDVD will recompress to MPEG 2 -the basis of a DVD Video disc.
Exporting to H.264 means that your video will be compressed twice. This is bad.

Taking the time to learn DVD Studio Pro, which comes with Final Cut Studio will give you even more control and completely customizable menus.

  • Best Quality Export of Std Def Video from Final Cut Pro to AppleTV

I get beautiful results when exporting HDV content and AIC content from FCP to Apple TV but what is the best way to handle anamorphic SD content? I'm getting pillboxing (black bars on the side) when I do it directly from FCP's timeline. Of course I could open a QT file in QT Player Pro, change the aspect ratio to classic then do an export, but that creates one more level of unwanted compression.
    Anyone?

Sure, export it as an uncompressed AVI or QT file.

  • Only sound, when I export HDV project with Quicktime

I'm working with Final Cut Pro 5.0 (yes I know I have to upgrade) with material from HV 20.
When I export my finished project with the export to Quicktime opt. I can't watch the movie in Quicktime player, Itunes, VLC or MPEG Streamclip, only in FCP. The Sound is there but know picture.
since I do not yet have DVD Studio I know have a problem, since I cannot make a DVD out of it.
Or can I? Why is there no picture? How can I do it the best?
I also tried exporting it through compressor to H.264 and quicktime. That as well didn't work.
    Grateful for help!!!
    /David

Make sure that you have the current HDV codec present in your /Library/Quicktime folder. If you don't have the codec you will sound but no picture. The codec is automatically installed when installing FCS--but interestingly I had to manually install it from the FCS install packages using Pacifist when I upgraded to Leopard (on my PPC machine, the Intel one was OK).
Unfortunately Apple does not make the codecs available for download--which makes no sense. If you want to pass an HDV movie over to another machine you must manually install the Apple HDV Quicktime codec. I don't even know if Apple considers this some sort of violation of their License.

  • What is the best way to export HDV from Final Cut Pro 5.1.2 ???

Should I even use the compressor route? i want my to export hdv footage to dvd studio pro and burn to dvd. i want to understand the best way so it looks like the original mini hdv tape.
can anyone help that has experience in this area?

you can use compressor to encode your HDV footage.
believe it or not, you can obtain stunning results when you encode and output to DVD.
i guess my only questions to you are:
will you want to output a "HD DVD" or a SD DVD?
    how long is your footage?
in what mode did you shoot (720p or 1080i)?
what type of footage, overall, would you say you have (fast action paced, slow action, interviews)?
to be honest with you aaron, there isn't really a setting that is a "set all". compression is both an art and science. additionally, quality of your encoded file can be very subjective!
let me know and we can get ya started on the right track

  • Exporting HDV to SD for iDVD

Have been using the "Send to Compressor" in FCP 7 for HDV export to Blu Ray. But have a wedding project shot in 1080i that I want to use one of the iDVD menus. Project is 2 hours and 18 minutes so exporting to two discs isn't an issue. Disc 1 is one hour and 9 minutes. Have exported using QT self contained with current settings. Read Ken Stone's tutorial re HDV to SD but that is for use in Studio Pro. When encoding in iDVD, have tried both Best Performance and Professional. Issue is that quick motion is a bit mushy and any horizontal lines (railings etc) have the 'ribbon' effect. Threw a de-interlace filter on the entire timeline and it seemed to help a bit. But the Blu Ray version is spectacular with the SD version disappointing (not as good as shooting earlier projects with mini DV camcorders).
    Any suggestions?

    Denis
I'm using compressor 3.5 for my HDV projects. But if I send it to compressor via fcp 7, no iDVD menus. If I do the suggested Ken Stone route (Pro rez HQ vs mpeg 2), I still can't import it into iDVD . . . correct?

  • Exporting HDV footage to web streaming

I'm trying to Export HDV footage to web streaming format but it always ends up stretched to fit the streaming format. any suggestions

i'm with andy. i've been shooting hdv1080i60 for the past few months for web distribution, but a bunch of the sites/video players that i use don't support 16:9, and if i uploaded the video like that, it would get all stretched. my workaround has been to export>QT movie after i'm done editing, and then make a new 4:3 sequence and drop the previously exported quicktime file in it, and then export>using QT conversion at 320x240 with my normal web settings. it makes the video "letterboxed" but it plays undistorted when uploaded to youtube, google video, etc.

  • Export each chapter as one H.264 file

    Hi friends
I´ve made a project in Adobe Premiere Pro CS5.5 (using Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bits). The length of the project is about 2 hours.
I´ve already divided the timeline into 20 chapters (in order to use in Encore when creating the DVD or Blu-Ray).
Now I´d like to publish a copy of this project to Youtube. But 2 hours is too length for one video. I thought I could separate the project into it´s 20 chapters. So I upload to youtube 20 files...the chapters.
My question is: Is there any way to order Adobe Premiere to export each chapter as one H.264 file suitable for Youtube (using the Youtube Widescreen HD preset)?
What´s the best way to do it?
    Thank you for the help
    Best Regards
    Gustavo.

    Gustavo,
There are three ways that a Reply gets the Correct, and Helpful answers, and two are almost the same.
The OP can make those assignments, so long as they had originally marked their post as a question. This can be done at any time, and is greatly encouraged, as it help the Adobe Forum Team. See this article: http://forums.adobe.com/thread/1058744?tstart=30 Also, there is the often overlooked "Was this helpful? Yes No," that helps in gathering data. I do not think that those contribute to a poster's "points," but do help the Adobe Forum Team determine how well the forums are working. Anyone can mark those, and I encourage anyone, coming to a thread, to take a moment, and do that, especially if a Reply helped them too. Those can be marked, regardless of the Correct, or Helpful marks, and go into a slightly different database.
A MOD, with MOD privileges in that particular Forum, can mark Replies. Also, one might have MOD privileges in one Forum, but not others.
An Adobe Administrator, with full privileges can mark Replies.
Usually a MOD will not do that marking, while a thread is active, but perhaps with the push to get data for the Adobe Forum Team, a MOD, knowing that the answers were correct, did the marking? That is but a guess.
    Good luck,
    Hunt

  • Trying to export a movie compressed with H.264 out of AE

I am having some issues with exporting a movie compressed with H.264. I am using AE CS3. When I output with the settings of this image:
    http://intuitionusa.com/ae.gif
I get an error message that is below in the image.  I have to leave Quicktime in the top settings in the output module and then select H.264 in the format button.  It allows me to render out, but a message appears saying it is better to select H.264 from the "format" dialog box.
    * Also, when I export out to H.264 the file size is much larger than just using quicktime pro.  I think it might be better to export an uncompressed file from AE and then use QT pro to compress but that is going to use up a lot of disc space.
    SHoutzager

You're probably getting that error because of a frame size/codec conflict.
Your comp is 900x600, and the MainConcept codec is looking for a frame size of 720x480 (NTSC DV).
Using the Quicktime wrapper to export the H.264 is a fine optioin, however, AE will not do as good of a job compressing to that codec as Quicktime Pro, or a dedicated compression application would do. AE can only cache a limited number of frames for the compression process (frames before and after the current frame), and as a result, the compression quality and filesize will not be as small as they could be by using a different tool for the job.
As such, your supposition about rendering out an uncompressed/losslessly compressed movie and then running it through QT Pro (or another compression application) yielding superior results was a correct one.

  • Exporting HDV movie from FCP6 to use in Compressor

    Friends
It is the first time that I'm exporting a FCP 6 HDV sequence to a not self contained Quick Time movie, so I can convert it to MPEG 2 (DVD) and HD MPEG-2 (HD DVD)... And I'm getting some performance problems...
1st - I create a new project based on HDV 1080i60 firewire basic
2nd - on Render Control (Sequence Settings) I changed the codec to Apple ProRes 422, to get a faster and a better rendering.
3rd - Exported my sequence as a Quick Time Movie, unchecked the "Make Movie Self Contained" , and the setting as "Current Settings" (that is Compressor as HDV 1080i60 and Render Codec as Apple Pro Res, the same as my Sequence Settings)...
Doing the steps before I thought that only the audio should be rendered, the movies and previews should be played from my "Capture Scratch" and "Render Files" folders, so this HDV export should be fast as my DV NTSC export was..
But when I submmit my render (it is a Sweet 16 project, with some slow, some filters, transitions and the total length is 40 minutes) , it tells me that it will take about 6 hours to render... What is happening? My exported movie is a not self contained movie, so this export should not be faster ? is there any way to get it faster?
    Thanks a lot
(By the way, I have a MacBook Pro, Dual 2 Core, 2.33 Ghz, 2GB Ram, FCP6, Mac OS 10.4.11)

Exporting a self contained Quicktime movie does not cause any compression to the actual images.
When using QT movie export FCP copies each frame of your finished movie and create new ones out of any transition between original media.
Editing HDV can require extra time indeed as it needs to be conformed after you finish. I would try to send the movie straight from the timeline once rendered. If you want to check out the result why not copy a portion of the edit on a second identical sequence and send it to Compressor.
Testing is always a crucial part of the process.

  • Best format to export HDV to work in Windows XP?

Trying to move a HDV 1080i 25p video clip over to Windows XP to do some effects work in After Effects 8. I tried exporting as a ProRess422, HDV 1080i and a FCP 10bit uncompressed QuickTime and it never works on Windows, QuickTime 7.4 just goes on line to try and find the codec, which of course it can't find!
So what is the best format to export HDV from FCP6 so I don't loose any quality to work in Windows XP?
    Thanks
    Kevin

Useful info on that web page but as it was talking about FCP4, so not up to date with the latest HDV codecs.
I'm surprised I can't export a piece if video in HDV format on the mac and then play it on QuickTime on the PC, that's realy what I'm after, keeping it in the same codec, more or less.

  • Exporting HDV with compressor to DVD Studio Pro

Could someone tell me what I'm doing wrong? When I export an HDV project using compressor for DVD Studio Pro and choose the 4:3 ratio, my video ends up squeezed horizontally. I would like to "chop" off the sides so that my subjects don't look unnaturally skinny. I just need a sample workflow to see what I am doing wrong. I'm rather new to DVD Studio Pro, so appologies blah, blah, blah. Thanks in advance.

    Ooops, sorry
    Open up Compressor
Click on the Preset You Want In General (or make a new One)
That will open Inspector, then click on the second icon from the right (geometry) The crop is there

No Hugh! You'll be fine - if you have an external monitor it will need to contend with PAL.
I frequently edit in NTSC (in a PAL country) when my US clients need a good job done (Hehe!!!)

Audiobooks are a one-time only download from the store. If you still have your old and haven't copied to over to your computer's iTunes library then you can do so by connecting that phone to your computer and doing File > Devices > Transfer Purchases - it should copy over to the Books paer of your iTunes library (Audiobooks if you are using a Mac with OS X Mavericks on it). You can then sync it to your new phone.
