Exporting HQ still image from clips

I seem to recall reading about how to do this a few years ago here. Didn't need it then. Now that I need it, can't find it!
What I need: Still shots exported from Final Cut Studio 7.0.3 to be used on website. I'd like them to stay VERY near the quality they are.
A link or step by step would be great.

Or if you don't have Photoshop, export the image as directed and open it in the app Preview.
Go to the menu Tools > Adjust Size and choose Fit In To 1280 X 720

How do you export a still image from a sequence ?

I could easily export a frame as still image in CS3 (File / export / ...)
But how do you do this in CS4 ??... Adobe found another way of making something simple so difficult !... I try to export media, then select a still image format, make sure ''export sequence'' is *not* selected, but when I look at the output, what I get is not where I had stopped the cursor and appeared on the monitor, but I get the first frame of the sequence instead.
What am I doing wrong here ?

Your way should work, it worked for me.
Try reading this:
Select a clip in the Project panel or a Timeline.
Choose File > Export > Media.
In the Export Settings dialog box, select a still-image format from the Format menu. See Export Settings Format options.
If tabs are not visible below the Summary pane, click the Advanced Mode button.
On the Video tab, deselect the Export As Sequence option (if it is selected).
(Optional) To deinterlace the frame, select Progressive from the Field Type menu.
(Optional) To correct the pixel aspect ratio for display on computer screens, select Square Pixels from the Aspect menu.
Click the Output Name hot text.
Browse to the location where you want to save the still-image file, type a filename for it, and click Save.
In the Export Settings viewing area, drag the playhead to the frame you want to export as a still image.
Click OK.
Check no.10 did you drag the playhead in the export settings viewing area? Or did you do that on the timeline?

I wish to export several still images from iMovie as JPEG or TIFF. Is it possible to do this using iMovie, if so how? Any advice is greatly appreciated. I've already managed to add a freeze frame to extract the desired frame but I can't export it. Thanks.

Ach... I found a solution thanks to previous posts which came to light after I'd posted what was obviously a question that had been asked before.

Cannot Export JPEG still picture from MPEG

I am trying to use Quicktime Pro 7.1.3 to export a still picture (in JPEG format) from an MPEG video, but this is not working. I followed the directions in the QTPro User Guide: I play and then pause the video once it reaches the desired frame. Then I select FILE->EXPORT and in the "Export" selection box, I select "Movie to Picture". Then I click on the "Options" button, and select the Compression Type of "Photo - JPEG". I must say I am puzzled as to why I then see a ".PCT" extension added to the filename. Also, I don't understand why, in the "Save as" selection field, there is no selection for "JPEG" file extension, and instead there is but a single type available which is called "All Files (.)". It makes me think I am not understanding how to use this function. After I click on the "Save" button, a small popup windows appears, and it shows that a file is written. When I try to open that file (on my local hard drive) with my Firefox browser, I get a plain text message in my Firefox screen which merely names the file. I also tried specifying other compression formats under "Export to Picture", and also tried using Firefox and other programs to open the files written by this Export operation, all without success.
If I use s different Export operation (Export to BMP instead of Export to Picture), I can get a usable BMP, and I can use another tool to convert this BMP to a JPEG, but the resulting JPEG is only a little over 30k in size, and I believe I am getting a lot lower picture quality than what I might get if QTP could directly Export to a JPEG.
Here is some info on my environment: I am running Windows XP Home Edition with SP2. Hardware is a Dell Pentium 4 with 2.8GHz cpu, 512MB ram, and over 50GB of free space on the hard drive. I just installed QuickTime Pro 7.1.3 today (and I have already tried de-installing it, and re-installing it, and this did not help).
Am I mis-understanding the instructions in the User Guide? Can anyone suggest how I can get QTP to Export a still image from an MPEG video directly to a JPEG file? Thanks!

QT Pro does not export to jpeg or other image formats. Instead, the picture export (Movie to Picture) creates a PICT format file which contains the frame in the specified compression inside the PICT file. PICT is thus a container file format which can contain image in many different compression formats. If you need an actual jpeg format file you will have to export to one of the uncompressed formats and then use some other graphic utility to convert that file to jpeg format.
Alternately, you can use QT Pro to Copy (Edit menu) the frame to the clip board and then a graphic application to import that frame from the clip board and export it in jpeg format.

How do I create and then export a still image from my video? Is it the same as freeze frame? It seems like that is different? I looked on youtube and a guy was telling how to do it, but he said to go up to share at the top and it is not there on my version. I think perhaps he was using an older version.. So to cut to the chase.. How do I create a still photo form my vdieo then export it to desktop or iphoto?

You seem to have added to "Save Current Frame" option to the destinations, but you are not using, if what you are outputting is a video file and not a still image file.
Now, click Next..., choose a file name and folder to save it on. That is just that.

Exporting JPEG still images in Final cut 5

Just wondering if anyone can tell me how to export a still image from final cut?
I used to have final cut 3 and it was as simple as file/export/quicktime...
but now it only gives me options for a quicktime movie...

Instead of "export to quicktime" choose "export using qt conversion".
Then in options selects the type of still you want.

I'm able to export stills from iMovie without anything extra. I create a new project - call it Exports say. Now, in your event clip with the frames you want as stills, select a single frame and drag it into your project. Repeat for other stills you want to export. Then choose Share -> Export Using QuickTime.
In the pop-up, choose Movie to Image Sequence. Click Options and choose the image format you want. Playing with the number of stills lets you pick how many stills you want from each second of video. Hit OK and the stills will be generated in the directory you choose.
I've only done this with HD video. Don't know how well it works with lower res, interlaced vid.

Is there a way to export still images from Quicktime or do I need Quicktime Pro (and is Quicktime Pro even still a thing?)

I'm sure there used to be an option "export to still image" but not any more.
Do I need to switch to Quicktime Pro? I used to have it back in my P.C. days but I'm not sure if Quicktime Pro is even a thing any more.
I don't want to go down the "screen grab" option because my source footage is larger than the screen size and so I want to do my cropping after I've exported the stills, not before.

I played a little with live trace in CS5. Seems to do quite a good job if I had the right contrast between the blood (white stuff) and the myocardium (the dark circular wall surrounding the white round area). Picture one is the contrasted picture taken off a dicom medium (these media allow adjusting the contrast very well). Left ventricle is the smiley face on the right of image. The right ventricle is on the left, kind of D shaped. The second picture is the live trace image (with "make and expand" selection). I selected the image with the "direct selection tool (A)", then used the live trace with make and expand. The tracing can not be seen here, but it is very accurate.
The third image is the same MRI image as in picture one without contrast adjustment. Live trace did bad - fourth picture.

Exporting many still images

The thread on exporting a still image reminds me to ask how you can export a whole series of stills. I often want to export a lot of stills from a film to use in graphics programmes but wonder if there is a way to do this without having to work my way through each individual clip. On a previous editing system I used to create a whole lot of one frame clips and then exported selection of them all and they appeared as tifs (or whatever). Does FCP have something similar. I have feeling that I once did something similare using batch export but cannot remember how even when I re read the help.

Yes it does. Once you've assembled the frames you want to export, set an IN and OUT point, the go to File->Export->Using QuickTime Conversion. In the export window, choose "Image Sequence" and then choose the file format you want from the OPTIONS button. Make sure you create a folder for the files to go into.

On you tube it how's how to do this on iMovie 08, however, I cant find out how to create a still image from my home movie, and possibly export it to iPhoto,

Can you send/export a still frame from FCP as a picture to the desktop? Doesn't matter if it is a .jpeg, .tiff, . bitmap

serach the forum for any of the hundreds of posts detailing this process -
my personal favorite is shift-N, apple-9, type name, drag to bin, batch export.
The best thing about the batch export queue is you can set up a batch with the file format and destination folder and then keep adding new clips/stills to export.

Yes. But how you do it depends on your version of quicktime.
If you have the pro version, you can easily use the "Export" option to output the video as a series of images.
For the basic version of quicktime, or if you want to quickly take make a still image of a single frame, you could just use the "Grab" application in OSX to take a screen shot.

Still Images from FCP 4

In dummies terms, how do I create still images from my FCP 4 project, save them in a file and burn them on a CD? i know I set it up in QT Conversion, take the image from VIEWER, but where does it end up once it's saved/ In the TIMELIN? Do I creat In and Out pooints? do I drag it to the TIMELINE? Looked in manual but it doesn't take me all the way. apprciate some help. thanks, Andy
