Exporting IMovie to Flash Drive vie IDVD for Burning on Another Computer

I have made a slide show in IMovie and since my computer can't burn a DVD, I would now like to export the IMovie to IDVD and then onto a flash drive so that I am able to burn on another computer (probably a PC). Which is the best format to put the movie in for export via flash drive and how can I create the appropriate file after transfering the IMovie to IDVD. There didn't seem to be an export or share option for me on IDVD. If someone could help with the steps after sending the IMovie to IDVD. Thank you.

Only if the computer was set up to allow installs without admin privileges.

  • How do I covert the format to mp3 when exporting to a flash drive?

How do I convert a playlist to mp3 format when exporting to a flash drive? I was able to convert the file for importing.

Convert the files, and then copy the newly created files to the flash drive.

  • HT3983 when will flash drive be available for the iPad?

will flash drive be available for the iPad.

And why would you be asking that in a Boot Camp/Windows forum?
Wouldn't it be better asked in the iPad area?
By the way, these are all "user to user" forums, Apple just host's the web site and never contribute. At least officially anyway.

Yes.  Unfortunately, I don't know the specifics because I don't use iPhoto anymore and I completely copied over 15 years of MP3 files recently when I installed 10.7.  Needless to say, I have not opened iTunes since and probably never will again - not because of iTunes but because of my stupidity.  I did have some of the files backed up but I hadn't backed up in a while.......anyway....
When I imported my CD's, I had them go directly to my external firewire.  I can't remember exactly how to set it, but in the preference section of iTunes you can specify an import destination to any drive that's available to your machine.  I did this with iPhoto as well way back at one point when I was using Tiger, but I don't remember the specifics on that either.  I can't imagine they would have discontinued support for that feature since then.
    Sorry I couldn't help more.

  • Mpeg2 files converted to DV files..how do I "share" with iDVD for burning?

Newbie question here...thanks for all the great info I have found here already...but need some more. I'm using an iMac with OS X 10.4.7, QT Pro, downloaded MPEG StreamClip, and purchased MPEG Playback as suggested on this board.
    Here's the situation:
I have analog Hi8 Sony camcorder (CCD-TRV98) with NO USB, firewire, etc. connection...just good ol' SVideo. Was able to "capture" old home movies using analog to digital coverter through my Windows Desktop. Saved files in mpeg formats and avi formats on external hard drive.
Plugged external hard drive via firewire port on iMac. I can play the movie files in Streamclip and can "convert" to DV files...and I can import them into iMovie fine....but when I try then "share" with iDVD the program encodes for literally hours....i finally gave up for a tiny movie after 2 hours of "encoding"....think this is a problem with my rookie status of using iMovie, or are my files a problem? Does the fact that I'm saving the files off a Desktop and using on Mac matter? If I'm converting the files to DV in Mac, would the Desktop influence even matter? (Are you rolling your eyes at me yet? R-O-O-K-I-E here and I know it, but hey I'm trying!
Hope I have explained my situation well...if not let me know what I left out. I could really use the help...I have 30+ Hi8 movies that I want to burn to DVD for family and archiving purposes.
    Thanks,
    iMac   Mac OS X (10.4.7)
iMac   Mac OS X (10.4.7)   iDVD,

the combo Streamclip + Apple plug-in is the most recommended here...
yepp, iMovie "prefers" dv only... relying on the QTengine, it can import some other formats/codecs... as mpeg4, you could be lucky, to make it accept an .avi container with the right codec inside...
.avi is a PC media container, as .mov in the Apple world: just a "wrapper", containing maning codecs, formats, standards, not-so-standards...
so, if your Windows app allows export as ".avi, codec dv", it should work... there's no 100% gurantee with that PCMac swapping....
how can I get iMovie to "share" with iDVD for burning? iDVD will not open the movie made in iMovie....?
now that a new - and surprising! - topic...
you have some options, how to share to iDVD:
    * inside iM there's a iDVD button under the pane... (I don't own iM6...)
    * you should safe your project into the Movies folder, then launch iDVD, create new project, in the media bin/movie you should find your movie...
    * create new iDVDproject and drag'n drop project from Finder/Movies into iDVD window....
I asked you, to tell us your free disk space on internal drive... see my last post... please tell us... , a 2min project should be rendered in a few minutes...
did you read the turtorials before using the iApps?
    http://www.apple.com/ilife/tutorials
coming from the PC world, some workflows differ..
we MacUser say: are easier to accomplish.. ;-))
    Plan B)
... in case, you own a miniDV camcorder, playout files from PC to tape, then import as usual into iM/iDVD... digital copies, no loss in quality..
    good luck
thanks for usage of forum's marker feature ...!

    Hi,
Unfortunately you can create only 1 set of recovery media.
Copying and burning the recovery USB to DVD and then using DVD to do system recovery will not work.
What you can do is back up all your data to an external drive. Do a Factory Reset with the Recovery USB to get back all the partitions including the recovery partition into the HDD.

Mozilla is currently developing an open standards-based Flash renderer called Shumway.
    https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/docs/Mozilla/Projects/Shumway
Available as an extension [http://mozilla.github.io/shumway/extension/firefox/shumway.xpi here]. ''< click to launch the add-on installer.''
''It seems to work fine on YouTube videos in the Firefox 31 release version, although it is somewhat CPU intensive.''
And also available in the Nightly development versions.
    http://nightly.mozilla.org/
Feel free to try it out, but make sure you install it into its' own Program Files folderset and make sure you create a unique Profile for use only with Nightly. If the same Profile is used with both Release and pre-release versions problems sometimes arise after switching back and forth between different versions of Firefox. Basically, Nightly is like 18 weeks ''(at a minimum)'' removed from becoming a release version, but some projects stay on Nightly for a longer time as they are being developed. That happens to provide as many user / testers as possible, by not resorting to a separate development trunk version.

  • Whats the best alternative to idvd for burning a disk with pics to play in a dvd player?

Whats the best alternative to idvd for burning a disk with pics to play in a dvd player? I don't want to deal with older versions of ilife.

Whats the best alternative to idvd for burning a disk
In my opinion, there are none.
Yes, there are other programs that will put a movie on a DVD.   I have tried most of the other substitutes including Toast, Burn, DVD Creator, Wondershare, and others.  None of them come anywhere near the ease-of-use and power of iDVD.
IDVD is a wonderful piece of software and well worth the low cost of $40.

  • Exporting to USB flash drive for use in digital picture frame

With the recent popularity of digital picture frames, has anyone else run into this problem......
I purchased digital picture frames to give as gifts this year, wanting to give them "pre-loaded" with photos. So i copied a bunch of pics from iphoto ( some i had edited, some not) onto a small 1GB flash drive. after ejecting the flash drive properly, i inserted it into the digital picture frame (kodak DPF800) and the slideshow starts as it should ...but then "freezes" midway through. repeatedly. and not always on the same picture.
After several calls to the kodak tech support line, i finally had someone tell me that the frame will only read raw jpeg files.
what does this mean? all the files in the flashdrive show as .jpeg.
    am i doing something wrong?
    any guidance would be appreciated.

This is often caused by a file permissions issue on the photo. Download BatchMod from
    http://macchampion.com/arbysoft/
And apply it to the iPhoto Library Folder using the settings found here:

  • I lost Internet Explorer on my new computer. I tried to download firefox to a flash drive and install it on the other computer ,but it says something is missing. I really need help.

    Please see question

Go to a suitable download page eg: [http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/all.html]
Download firefox, use the save option rather than install.
Save it directly to the flash drive, or to somewhere on your computer and copy/move it the flash drive.
However if IE is not working possibly you have some sort of setup problem so firefox may not work either.

This is a somewhat daft question and purely out of interest.
How does disk utility decide which optical drive bay to open for burning?
I have two drives in a MacPro and both have the same capabilities (DVD-RW). Why does it sometimes open the lower one, and sometimes the top one?

The estimate is based on how long it already took to do how many blocks, and how many blocks are left to do. If you told it to overwrite 35 times, it will be a long, long time before it completes.
The estimate is made grossly large by the presence of Bad Blocks that need to be Read during the test (not the case with Erase and Write Zeroes).
Each Block is written with some redundancy bits, so that small errors can be corrected on reading. A Bad Block causes the drive to re-read. and re-read, and re-read, in hopes of getting correctable data the next time. This should NOT be an issue in writing. But if the drive stops responding (which can and does happen with a bad drive) the Erase function will just sit there, thinking it is making progress, and stretching out the time.
    Thanks, Grant.
If I read your reply correctly, Erase and Zero Out free space shouldn't elongate the process, because there's no read occurring.
The drive will not be Mounted while Disk Utility works on it, so it will not be on the Desktop. But ask Apple System Profiler \[ About this Mac > More Info > Serial ATA ] if the drive is still THERE . If it cannot be seen, you have your answer -- the drive dropped out of sight while being tested -- Bad Drive.
Well, now I am confused. It's a FW800 drive. It's on the Desktop. And it appears under FireWire in System Profiler. AND Disk Utility shows a mount point. But the Unmount and Eject buttons are grayed out.
Will the drive be mounted if it fails to respond to Disk Utility? That doesn't seem to make sense.
How do I determine its status? It appears to be stuck at "1 day, 5 hours" but it'll take an hour for that to change. I think it's been that long since I first noticed the time.

  • Access Pictures On Hard Drive That Use To Be On Another Computer

My Old 12" stopped working a while ago. I removed the hard drive and transffered the information to another larger hard drive connected to my new 13.5" intel mac. I need to access some picture in the picture folder and when I try and navigate to the folder either in the finder or iphoto, I see there is a minus sign in a red circle at the corner of the folder. Nothing is visible in the folder. I tried to repair permissions and it did nothing.
I would try and start up from the duplicate of the old hard drive but, it was the PowerPC system and now I have intel and I suspect starting up will not work.
Any suggestions how I can ge t in this folder?

Neil: Thanks for the siggestion. I tried that, the folder still displayed the minus sign and would not show the contents. I also tried to repair permissions on the disk.
    Would appreciate any other suggestions.

  • Saving Sessions 100% Correctly For Launching On Another Computer

    Hi, I have GB 2.02. On Mac OS 10.4.11. PowerBook G4 17".
I have made a few songs, some have actual recorded audio in them, some have samples, and some of course have the midi stock sounds in them.
What I was wondering is, where the heck are all these files stored ? The midi stock sounds I am not worried about because I know they are just "in the program" therefore the session. But where are all my recorded real audio files ? And the "Samples" ?
Basically what I want to do is save my Garage Band songs properly with EVERYTHING in proper tact so that I can load them up on another computer or wipe my computers drive instal Leopard and then load them back into my computer and have them play 100% flawlessly like they should with out missing anything.
Now in Pro Tools you have to save the "Session" file itself, plus the "Audio Files" folder.. Now that makes sense. See all the real audio files are recorded and kept in that "Audio Files" folder, so there is no confusion and you have total control. BUT when I went to my Garage Band folder, there seems to only be the "Session" file(s) and thats it. Where are all the actual audio files ? And how do I save them with the session ? Or is it all automatically in the "Session" file itself ? I don't understand, can someone shed some light please ?
How do I do this properly so I don't lose my songs or ANY of its elements ?
    Thanks -

If you need a database, use a database.
The client doesn't do anything "on the server". The client just asks the server to do something with the data it provides. So make sure that the client sends the savegames and user IDs and load requests to the server process, and let the server worry about the implementation and storage.
