Exporting Importing mail boxs

We have two mail boxs operating in the one computer account - have now set up two accounts on our computer (one for each operator). How do i export their mail box contents (all emails) to the mail program in the other computer account.

1. Quit Mail on the source user account.
2. In the Finder, make a copy of the source ~/Library/Mail folder and put it in a place accessible to the destination user.
3. Do File > Get Info (⌘I) on the copy of the source Mail folder. Under Ownership & Permissions, expand Details by clicking on it, set the destination user as Owner and click the Apply to enclosed items button.
4. In Mail on the destination user account, do File > Import Mailboxes, choose Mail for Mac OS X as the data format, and follow the instructions. Import the Mailboxes folder within the Mail folder first, then repeat with each of the POP-username@mailserver account folders.
5. After checking that everything works as expected on both user accounts, you can get rid of the copy of the source Mail folder made in step 2.
Ask for any clarifications or if you need further assistance.
Note: For those not familiarized with the ~/ notation, it refers to the user's home folder, i.e. ~/Library is the Library folder within the user's home folder.

I would love to us Mail but unless I can bring my mailboxes it isn't happening.
Is there a file size limit or is Mail for Mac just flakey?

Could you please explain the whole process of exporting mail from Snow to Lion. I have been trying for weeks on two diffrent computers and I can not get it to work.
I have moved the library, not sure to delete the envelopes. How do you export the  mbox-files ? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

  • I cannot find imported mail boxes. if i try to setup a new mailbox, it shows the existence of the mailboxes that i am looking for in the location drop down menu. where would they be located?

i cannot find imported mailboxes. if i try to setup a new mailbox, it shows the existence of the mailboxes under location/on my mac. they do not show up in the mailbox list. where would they be located so that i can retrieve them?

Did you quite Mail and relaunch?
Your imported mail is stored in a new mailbox called “Import.” To reorganize imported messages, create new mailboxes and drag folders and messages from the Import mailbox to other mailboxes. When you’re done, you can delete the Import mailbox.
If you don’t see your mailboxes in Mail, choose View > Show Mailbox List; empty mailboxes aren’t imported.

  • Import mail box

A friend of mine, asked me a question... Can you help please ?
I kind of understood how to import mailboxes
one can import FOLDER containing mailboxes, not mailboxes themselves
now the question for me is how to replace the entire Mail on one comp with Mail from another including all settings, accounts and folders

You need to copy the Mail folder (Home/Library/Mail) and the com.apple.mail.plist file (Home/Library/Preferences) to the new Mac, replacing any that might exist. You can do the same with the AddressBook folder in Applications Suppport (Home/Library). Doing this will allow Mail to start up where it left off on the other Mac.
If you have already opened the Mail your replacing and received any messages on the Mac your moving the Mail System too, then save any old messages already received in the mail system your replacing.
Be sure to get the .plist transferred as this will be all your settings and stuff.

  • Correct method to import Mail folders from Tiger to Leopard?

    Guys,
What is the correct method of exporting/importing mail folders/settings from Tiger to Leopard?
    Thx

You're lucky--I can't even open Mail! The icon bounces in the Dock and then quits unexpectedly. (Ditto with iCal). Had horrible Keychain problems after installing Leopard (as an upgrade--I wasn't even given an "archive & install" option. My username and password were being rejected, and I couldn't even install the recommended Software Updates. Tech support guy (for whom I waited 30 min. and then spent an hour with) made things worse--the Unix code he had me type ended up invalidating my account. He then handed me off to a supervisor--for whom I had to wait another 45 min. After another hour, during which the supervisor had me create a new account and attempt to copy and paste the items (42,000) from my old User folder to the new one, he told me that when I was done (it took 2 more hrs) I should log out and log back in. I did and nothing happened--all my previous files and folders were still gone. But I could start Mail, although all it brought up was my mac.com account. So rather than reinitialize and reinstall Leopard, I restored my important files, folders and programs from the external drive to which I'd backed up my previous hard drive (OS 10.4.10)--including Mail and iCal. (I wanted to set up my RCN and Earthlink accounts too). But now I can't even access Mail AT ALL! What happened, and how can I just get a working version of Mail so that I can set it up from scratch? (I am now accessing my mail from an old iBook G4--and I don't want to travel with two computers).

  • Tiger to Leopard Mail Boxes and Rules?????

Can I drag my mail boxes and rules from a tiger system (10.4.11) to a leopard system (10.5.2)?
    Thank you

    I intended to drag from/to ~user<me>/Library/mail.
As I do sometimes, I posted the question then went and experimented. Wondering now if I can reverse what I did. I imported the mailboxes from the tiger machine, then modified the rules to point to the Import/mail box name.
Thinking it would be preferable to not have the Import mail box folder. So maybe I can drag the Imported folder to the trash and as you and the next guy suggested, just drag my tiger Mail folder and .plist file to leopard????

I am trying to launch the import/export properties dialog box but the only item under the Tools menu is Customize. How can I get to the import/export properties dialog?
I am using TestStand 4.2 and have tried reinstalling.

    Hi,
I don't know why you don't see it already but I have a suggestion...
I'm using 4.1 but maybe you can create a new menu item using settings similiar to mine.
    Item Text Expression: ResStr("DATABASE_TOOL_MENU", "IMPORT_EXPORT_DESCRIPTION")
    Enable Expression: PropertyExists("RunState.InitialSelection.SelectedFile") && GetNumElements( RunState.InitialSelection.SelectedSequences ) > 0 &&  CurrentUserHasPrivilege("Develop.EditSequenceFile
    Sequence File: GenericImportExport.seq
    C:\Program Files\National Instruments\TestStand 4.1.1\Components\Tools\GenericImportExport.seq
(replace your own version of TestStand)
    Sequence: ImportExport
    Hope this helps.

  • Trouble importing archived mail box

I had a mail account set up as POP for about a month and decided it would be better for iPhone/MBP syncing purposes to switch to IMAP.
I wanted to save all of my Sent mail so I archived and saved as "Sent Messages.mbox"
When I went to import, everything seemed to go fine with the exception of how those emails are now displayed.
Currently, if I want to access them, I have to go On My Mac > Import > Sent Messages.mbox > mbox. After doing that, the messages are no longer organized by the recipient like a normal sent box is; the heading lists "From" instead of "To."
I've tried simply dragging the imported messages to my regular sent folder to no avail. Is there a way to restore the imported mail to either my regular sent folder or be able to at least organize them according to the recipient?

Quit Mail. Force quit if necessary.
Back up all data. That means you know you can restore the Mail database, no matter what happens.
Triple-click the line below on this page to select it:
    ~/Library/Mail/V2/MailData/Envelope Index
Copy the selected text to the Clipboard (command-C). In the Finder, select
    Go ▹ Go to Folder
from the menu bar. Paste into the box that opens (command-V), then press return.
A Finder window will open with a file selected. Move the selected file to the Desktop, leaving the window open. Other files in the folder may have names that begin with "Envelope Index". Move those files, if any, to the Trash.
Log out and log back in. Relaunch Mail. It should prompt you to re-import your messages. You may get a warning that the index is corrupt and that Mail has to quit. Click OK.
Test. If Mail now works as expected, you can delete the file you moved to the Desktop. Otherwise, post your results.

  • Import/export - Windows Mail to Mac Mail

Does anyone know a way to import Windows Mail mailboxes in Mac Mail.
I managed to import Windows Mail in Thunderbird, but when I export them to mbox it seems like Thunderbirds is only exporting one mail from each mailbox.
Is this the only way to Export/Import from Windows to Mac Mail, and what am I doing wrong?
It's important to say that Windows Mail and Windows Outlook/Outlook Express is not the same thing. I'm using Windows Mail.

  • Exporting / Importing email in Mac Mail

Hello. I needed to know how to export my emails in the native mac mail program and then how to export them. I have a new 160GB hd, and wanted to make sure I could switch them over a'ok.
    Thanks, -- Kenny

Mail stores messages in .mbox format. You can export the mail by simply dragging any mailbox from the left side bar to the Desktop. It can then be imported by any mail program that supports the mbox format.
You can import from many different formats by opening Mail and selecting Import from the File menu.
Get assistance by selecting Mail Help from Mail's Help menu. This is the same as most all Mac applications.

  • Exporting to Unix mail boxes and lots of other problems

The newer themailer gets the worse it gets. The mailer won't do moves successfully, won't get and save all xcontents all the time as it should, delays showing mail it gets, and on and on. I want to export all of my emails (100,000 or so of them) to Unix email formats so I can escape the crappy applicaiton and go back to elm or some other mailer. How do I export to Unix mail box format? Don't bother to tell me to drag and drop to the desktop. It does not do the translation!

To convert to mbox, emlxconvert says it will do the job.
I can't make head nor tail of the other problems you say you are having. (I happily used elm for 15 years before switching to Mail.app about 2 years ago, but now you couldn't pay me to go back.)
