Exporting InCopy text to MS Word?

Hi there. I have an editor who would like to export the text from an InCopy document to Word format so that a new author can have access to/edit the text. Is this possible? Even a .txt file would work. Just something that can be opened by the average Joe without any knowledge of/access to Adobe products.
Thanks so much!

Actually you can do this from InCopy. There's a script called
exportallstories.jsx in your script panel. Open the INDD file and run it
by double clicking it. You'll get a choice or RTF, plain text or
InDesign tagged text.
The above assumes you are on CS3. With CS2 you'll need to physically
install the scripts from the installation disks.

  • Export/import text with all styles (indesign CS3 (XP SP2))

    I'm looking for the best way to export text so authors can edit their text using MS Word, Excel or xml. (they don't want to use Indesign). after they are done editting I want to import the text back into Indesign (with par, char, obj styles).
    I know how to import/export to .doc with styles, but this doesn't work for table, object styles, and page breaks.
    Xml tags or plugin/software might be a solution.
    I've searched the forums, google and read the help file, but still don't know what the best/quickest solution might be. ... ?
    thanks in advance

    1. Those programs don't support every feaature of InDesign, so you are out of luck.
    2. If they don't want to use InDesign, ask them to use InCopy, that is the only one programm which supports the whole InDesgin-functionlity
    3. Page breaks should never be done manually, never in Word, neither with InDesign. They should be created via paragraph styles in both program, but with the import options is a checker to get Word's page breaks.

  • How do I export a scanned document to Word?

    How do I export a scanned document to Word?

    Use your OS's file browser/explorer to sort the files (in the folder) by date.
    Rename each. Top down put a numeric prefix in place.
    000-filename
    001-filename
    nnn-filename
    Open Acrobat and use the "Combine" feature to combine the files into a single PDF.
    An option available with the Combine feature is to have Bookmarks used. Tick this choice.
    The single, new PDF is created. Save it.
    Open this PDF file's Bookmark pane. There'll be a bookmark for each of the files.
    The order of Bookmarks and the order of PDF pages reflects the order you set when you renamed the source files (a date sort).
    Note that you could manually position the order of files to be combined in the Combine dialog.
    I find it easier and quicker to add the prefix to the source files.
    Using Acrobat XI you'd process the new, single PDF through OCR.
    As some of the PDF pages already have renderable text they cannot undergo OCR.
    Acrobat will alert you of this when it comes to the first of such pages.
    Just tick the box in the lower left. This tells Acrobat to ignore any upcoming pages that cannot be OCRd and to keep on truck'n to OCR the page that hold the scanned image.
    Now, use Acrobat XI to export the the PDF to the Word file you want.
    (File :: Save As Other :: <make the desired choice> )
    Do not expect a 1:1 export. You have a diverse collection of source files.
    While you might get 1:1 if ALL the PDFs combined were well-formed Tagged PDF (compliant with 14.8 of ISO 32000-1 & ISO 14289-1) you don't have that.
    So --- To be expected — cleanup of the content in the Word file.
    Be well...

  • After I exported a PDF to a Word doc and downloaded it, I can't get the pointer tool to work.

    After I exported a PDF to a Word doc and downloaded it, I can't get the pointer tool to work. When I click on the document text, the only tool is the "move" tool. I can't edit or select text. Please advise.

    Version of Adobe: Adobe ExportPDF (not Pro)
    Operating system:  Windows 8.1
    Steps I am taking: When the PDF file is selected and opened, I clicked on Tools menu on right side of the screen; then I clicked on Select PDF file; then under Convert To, I selected Microsoft Word (*.docx); then I hit the box below that; and clicked Convert. I then see the message that says it is Converting to Export PDF Online. Then I see a link below that, that says Download Converted File. This takes me online to Adobe Acrobat .com, where, I see the command, Export PDF, and see a blue box on the same screen that says Select PDF Files to Export. I click on the thumbnail of the file I want to export. This brings up, online, a screen containing the file I wanted to convert to Word. Then, on the same screen, I click on the icon on the right hand of the screen that says Download. then I click on the box on the bottom the screen that contains the Word document I had wanted to convert. This brings up the Word doc. in Compatibility Mode the latest Word version, which I am unfamiliar with and which has a Picture Tools tab that I cannot escape from and I cannot get any selection tool other that the Move pointer, and I cannot find the Select text pointer to select any text on the page. I don't want this Word version and do not know how to return to the old version of Word that I am familiar with.
    Can you help me, please?

  • Importing text from large Word document ID freeze

    I'm converting a large Word document to PDF via InDesign and when I import the text from the Word doc, ID always freezes.
    I want to preserve the styles and formatting in the text but unfortunately the freeze occurs at the beginning where the Placing Microsoft Office Word 2007 document progress bar shows either "Processing character attributes..." or "Processing table attributes..."
    My problem is that it is such a large document with lots of italics, bolds and styles that I would like to take over to InDesign in order to speed up the design process.

    RTF will be fine and will retain all the Bold and Italic and other styles. RTF stands for RICH TEXT FORMAT and I think it's better than the standard .doc saved from Word; for importing to InDesign.
    Try these steps.
    In Word:
    File>Save As
    Choose RTF (that way you are not overwriting the original file)
    In InDesign:
    Start a new document - completely blank - don't worry about page size (A4 will do) and don't worry about margins (standard margins will do)
    Use File>Place and import the RTF file you just saved
    If that imports ok - then select all the text
    File>Export and choose RTF (rich text format)
    Now use that new RTF to import to your layout
    (there is no need to worry about images, you should reimport all  images that are in Word through File>Place; if you have any images in  your Word document. Make sure you use the same source file as when you  placed into Word)
    The reasons for the steps above is because there is a lot of unnecessary styles made with Word - and importing to InDesign and a fresh Export to RTF makes a cleaner file to use with InDesign.
    Have a look at  this too - http://www.paperspecs.com/mainblog/degunkifying-word-files/

  • How can I export formatted text from a string indicator?

    Does someone know how I can export formatted text (i.e., parts of the text have different formatting, such as color, fontsize, etc.) from a string indicator? Using copy/paste does not work, as it only exports unformatted plain text.

    Hello Sparti,
        Thank you for your suggestions, they are all very useful, and I plan to use the HTML feature under Report Generation to export the formatted text from Labview. However, I am still not sure how I can extract the formatted text from a *string indicator* and transfer it to one of those VIs, so that it can be exported to other applications. Let me give some more specific info on what I am trying to achieve:  I am monitoring the communication between two pieces of equipment. A string indicator shows all the data flow, with different colors for data coming from different instruments. I managed to do that by using a property node and playing with the selection and font color properties. Now, if you just wire the output of the string indicator, the formatting is gone and all you get is just plain black text (for instance, try to programmatically transfer the formatted text from one string indicator to a different string indicator and you will see that the formatting is not preserved). Even if you try the "brute force" method of manually selecting and copying the text in the indicator and pasting it to Word, LV does not export the formatting. But, if you paste *within*  LV (for example, paste it to a string constant in your diagram), then it works. To extract the formatted string from the indicator, I also tried to use a property node, but without success. I am trying to avoid duplicating part of my code to generate the same color-coding scheme on a report. It would be way easier to be able to transfer the formatted text from the string indicator. This is particularly annoying, because the information is there, stored in the data structure associated with the string indicator. But how can I put my hands on it? Any ideas?

  • Export Selected Text as EPS

    Hi All,
    I want export my selection (text) as EPS using InDesign CS4.
    Please suggest how it possible to export selection text as eps.
    Thanks,
    Shonky

    Do you literally mean you have a textbox with lots of text, you select one single word (for example), and then want to export just this one word?
    I can't think of any possible way. What if you select a sentence that runs from the right side of your text frame and wraps to the next line on the left side of that same frame?
    If you want to have an EPS containing some text, you might want to copy the text, paste it into a new document, then export that.

  • I exported a pdf file to word but i can't edit

    I exported a pdf file to word but i can't edit. What am I doing wrong?

    Hi hc69,
    You're most likely doing nothing wrong! For starters, please try triple-clicking in the text that you want to edit in Word.
    If that doesn't work, it may be that the PDF was created from a scanned page, and that OCR (optical character recognition) wasn't performed on that PDF to convert the scanned/image text to selectable/editable text. OCR is enabled by default when you convert via the ExportPDF website, but can be disabled in Reader. Please see How to disable Optical Character Recognition (O... | Adobe Community to make sure OCR is enabled.
    Let's start there. If neither of those solutions work, we can take it from there.
    Best,
    Sara

    I'm using Visual Studio 2005 Team Suite which I believes has Crystal Reports 10 installed.I'm trying to export to a text file. I've been googling and it sounds like I may need to install a dll to export to text. Can anyone confirm that?Thanks much...

  • Export to Text file does not page

    Since I applied SP 7 for Crystal 9, when I export a report to a text file it does not page and print the report header on each page. It prints the report header once and one lone continuous page of information. My report was export to text with a page header on each page before I applied the service pack. How do I get it to page in the text export and print the page header on each page?

    In 8.5 the default behavior of the export to text was to not paginate. With 9 you have a paginate option when you manually export data to text, however when processing in batch
    Mary Vertz wrote:
    export in the background
    you had no such option and it simply defaulted to 60 even for those reports that were suppressing the page header. This causes those text files to have a new-page marker at the start of every 62nd line. This causes the data on that line to be moved 1 character to the right and caused many issue with 8.5 backwards compatibility as this functionality was used for flat file interfaces for instance with the bank for positive pay.
    In SP7 they addressed this issue and changed the default behavior to not paginate and enabled a parameter to be passed to control pagination during batch processing.
    If that
    database application
    is PeopleSoft, the parameter that needs to be added to the process request is  -LN<number of lines> ex. -LN60
    Also note that the CPI can be set via the command line as well. For PeopleSoft it's -CPI<numerical value> which defaults to 12 if it isn't specified.
    Unfortunately I do not have the SP7 release notes handy to provide more detail on these options.
    Thanks

  • Export to text problem

    <p>Hi ! Everyone,</p><p>I&#39;m using crystal report 7. I report file which is calling from PB. I am assuming PB is Power Builder. The issues with PB in CR 7 was that PB could get structure sizes properly. The fix was to build and app using MS C++, run in debug mode and get the actual size required and add that value to PB.
    Also, CR 7 is well past it's life cycle so we have no more samples or patches available.
    Please upgrade to a develoment tool that supports .NET Assemblies and CR Xi R2 or above.

  • Export to text - formatting

    Post Author: Ralphred
    CA Forum: .NET
    Im trying to export a report to a .txt from within a vs2005 program, using CRXIr2. I have been able to export to the text file through code since the option to export to text isn't available for some reason when in vs2005. The problem I have now is that when I try to change the Characters Per Inch Textformatting option they do not change and the report gets exported with the default of 12 characters per inch, and some of my data is cut off.
    Here is the code that I am using and would really appreciate if anyone knows a way around this and can help out.
    Thanks
    Public Sub ExportToText(ByVal ReportName As CrystalDecisions.CrystalReports.Engine.ReportDocument, ByVal ParamName() As String, ByVal ParamValues() As String)
    Dim MyReportDocument As CrystalDecisions.CrystalReports.Engine.ReportDocument = ReportName
    Dim Field As CrystalDecisions.Shared.ParameterValues
    Dim Value As CrystalDecisions.Shared.ParameterDiscreteValue
    Try
    If Not ParamName Is Nothing Then
    For i As Integer = 0 To ParamName.Length - 1
    Field = New CrystalDecisions.Shared.ParameterValues
    Value = New CrystalDecisions.Shared.ParameterDiscreteValue
    Value.Value = ParamValues(i)
    Field.Add(Value)
    MyReportDocument.DataDefinition.ParameterFields(ParamName(i)).ApplyCurrentValues(Field)
    Next
    End If
    Dim exportOpts As New ExportOptions
    Dim diskOpts As DiskFileDestinationOptions
    diskOpts = ExportOptions.CreateDiskFileDestinationOptions()
    CrystalDecisions.Shared.ExportOptions.CreateTextFormatOptions.CharactersPerInch = 16
    exportOpts.ExportFormatType = ExportFormatType.Text
    exportOpts.ExportDestinationType = ExportDestinationType.DiskFile
    diskOpts.DiskFileName = "c:\exporttotext.txt"
    exportOpts.ExportDestinationOptions = diskOpts
    '**************************************** Here is where I set and nothing happens
    ExportOptions.CreateTextFormatOptions.CharactersPerInch = 16
    MyReportDocument.Export(exportOpts)
    Catch ex As Exception
    MsgBox(ex.Message, MsgBoxStyle.OkOnly, "Print Report")
    Finally
    MyReportDocument.Close()
    MyReportDocument.Dispose()
    End Try
    End Sub

    Yes. Use character styles, and map XML tags to the styles. It's the same process as for paragraph styles.
