Exporting Indd file and losing transparency

When I export an indd file to pdf, the transparency of the png image in the file is lost. Any idea what's causing this?

Why are you using a PNG?!!!!!!!
I mean you should use a different file type. PNG is terrible when you want to print the file. Use PDF or PSD instead.
Except for apps I would recommend not to use PNG in any case in InDesign.

Book Module: Export as indd file and management
I would like to request a feature to export a book module as indd file.
I like PDF's but .indd is nice also so we are able to to more in depth layouts.
Having Lightoom being able to manage all your pictures and book layouts would be nice, alot of things can be done in one application.
Another Feature:  Using Lightoom as book layout management.
Being able to send a page(s) of the book from lightroom into InDesign to do indepth layout and editing, then being able to send it back into lightroom
Almost similar to how you can send a photo from LR in Photoshop to do indepth editing and then send it back into lightroom.
This could and will ease the workflow of book management and layout design.  So lightroom will not only be able to manage photos, but also indesign and book layouts.

Why do repeat it here, as you have already filed a feature request for it?
BTW AFAIK this is already implemented: you can use Adobe Illustrator or InDesign or Opensource Scribus to edit layouts.
They are just not ready to publish how - another sign of the quality processes at Adobe.
But you do not send from the book module.
You create upfront layout templates, which you can import for use inside LR book module.
    This is a one-way street.
The book module designers did not acknowledge a use case where you might want to fiddle the exact placement of really chosen images.
It is always you first design a template, then use it.
Love it or leave it - *change it* is not an option that Adobe seems to give to their beta testers.

  • Export indd file to Snippets [VBS]

Hello all i'm trying to modify an existing script that Exports indd files to pdf's. it goes through all the indd file and createsa pdf one page at a time and workds fine. However in converting it to do the same but convert to Snippet files  i'm having problems with the "idExportFormat.idInDesignSnippet" class and memebers  when i try somthing like
    myFilePath = myFolderName & "\" & myPageName & "_" & myBaseName & ".inds"
    myDocument.Export idExportFormat.idInDesignSnippet, myFilePath, False
I get an "The Specified object to does support the desired export format." error # 25398
if i remove the  ",myflePath, False" then i get a "Missing required parameter 'To' for export event".
The really anying this is if i change that to a
    myFilePath = myFolderName & "\" & myPageName & "_" & myBaseName & ".xml"
    myDocument.Export idExportFormat.idXML, myFilePath, False
    it works fine..
So there is somthing missing for the snippet export.

I've broken the problem down and started as small as possible.
To do the same thing but to export each page as a jpg's i can use the following script
    Set myInDesign = CreateObject("InDesign.Application.CS3")
    myFile = "c:\myTestFile.jpg"
    myInDesign.ActiveDocument.Export idExportFormat.idJpg, myFile, False
If i change that round a abit to customize it to export as inds snippets i would get
    Set myInDesign = CreateObject("InDesign.Application.CS3")
    myFile = "c:\myTestFile.inds"
    myInDesign.ActiveDocument.Export idExportFormat.idInDesignSnippet, myFile, False
This produces the following error " The specified object does not support the desired export format"  - Line 3
This is because the object i am speifiying is "ActiveDocument" which when selected (manually) cannot be exported as a Snippet.
What I need to do is cycle trough my pages selecting Texframes of which they are multiple on each page and export them as Snippets.
    Can anyone help please?

  • How do I open png files and maintain transparency?

How do I open png files and maintain transparency?  I have many image files I had hoped to manage with aperture along with my photos.  I find that it wants to display them with a black bacground( they were designed for white) and when I want to edit that is kept even when I open with a psd format.  What do I do?
    Thanks

and when I want to edit that is kept even when I open with a psd format.  What do I do?
Transparency and layers are not supported in Aperture. You can import png-files or psd files with a transparent background and export the originals unchanged, but as soon as you edit them, the transparent background will be lost.
Aperture is an application to manage photos and not graphics compositions, sorry.

  • Can I write the UID of a textframe into indd file ,and restore the uid when I open the indd file again

I create a UID list for textframe, and I add Some extra properties the textframe,  now I want store these properties into  INDD file , and expecte to restore these properties from INDD file again when
I  open the it again . anyone could tell me how to do this ,thanks in advance.

Why don't you save the properties on the textframes itself by adding a of a persistent interface on the textframes. This way you will be able modify/restore(based on the persisted values) textframes each time the document is opened. Refer to BasicPersistence sample plugin to get an idea on how persistence works in InDesign. Also regarding restoring the UID, i don't quite get the need for it. Every object(well most of them) in InDesign has a unique ID which is called UID, this is allocated automatically and remains the same between document open sessions. I can't see any circumstance where we have a need to apply a particular UID to a particular object.
    Hope this info helps
    Thanks,

It's because the PowerMac G5 had HUGE bandwidth with a fat BUS on each processsor so they could run hard, hot and heavy.
It's not so with the Intel processors which are multi-core and share a common bus thus bottleneck.
The newer Intel processors can do more work on the CPU, but when it comes to in/out they are s-l-o-w.
I've had a wickedly fast dual processor (not dual core) G5, RAID 0 pair of 10,000 RPM drives as boot and a fast video card, I could do a lot very very fast.
You'll likely have to upgrade to Final Cut X to get more cores utilized, prepare to cry a little bit, Apple is working on the features they stripped out of it to make amends to pro users who complained loudly. (all over TV too)

  • How do I export a file and keep the aspect ratio intact?

I'm exporting an edited scene from an external hard drive to a macbook but the video on the laptop is anamorphic (squished) compared to the original file on the hard drive.  How do I export the file and keep the aspect ratio intact?

Please give the exact specs of your project. If the material is anamorphic, aspect ratio display is a function of the playback device. What is it?

  • Best Way to Export After Effects File and Save Transparency

    Hi all-
A pretty simple question. I need to export a file from After Effects and keep the alpha channel so I can superimpose it on some video in FCE. What is the best way to export it?
I recall hearing people mention that the Animation Codec with "Millions of Colors+" is the best way to go about doing it, in which case I'd just have to render it within FCE. Is that correct? If so, are there any other settings I should tweak to get a high quality file that will work with FCE?
    Thanks.

    Hi -
Animation Millions+ will deliver an extremely high quality file with the alpha channel. You will need to render once in FC.
    Hope this helps.

  • How to export HD files and play them on Western Digital HD Media PLayer?

    Hi Folks,
I'd need your help here. I shoot HD video in AVCHD with Canon HF200.
My goal is to be able to export my edited footage with minimum quality loss and be able to play it on the well known Western Digital HD Media Player:
    http://www.wdc.com/en/products/Products.asp?DriveID=735
The player supports the following formats for video:
    Video - AVI (Xvid, AVC, MPEG1/2/4), MPG/MPEG, VOB, MKV (h.264, x.264, AVC, MPEG1/2/4, VC-1), TS/TP/M2T (MPEG1/2/4, AVC, VC-1), MP4/MOV (MPEG4, h.264), M2TS, WMV9
    Here is what I do:
    1. I convert the avchd files into .avi using  Cineform Prospect HD.
    2. Then I import and edit the footage in Adobe Premiere Pro CS3
    3. Finally I export the edited footage using the ' BD-h.264 ' codec in the 'Adobe Media Encoder'
    4. I end up with two files after the export: .M4V file (video) and .WAV file (sound).
The WD HD Media Player plays 'black' screen while displaying a message 'no audio'.
I guess the exported file is not fully supported by the WD player,
Any ideas? How can I combine the two files into one and play it on the WD player?
Maybe I'm not exporting it correctly?
Please share your experience and help me out.
    Thanks

Let me give you an optimum example of my last HD to DVD timing.  The video was shot with two cameras under good lighting conditions and there was very little color correction required and only a few special effects.  The finished video was 39 minutes (1.35 GB).  The AME encoding time on my 8 core (2.33 GHz) with a really fast RAID 0 array was 36 minutes 48 seconds!  If you start adding in a lot of color correction and lots of other effects encoding time does increase significantly. I am convinced that the DVD was of much better quality that had we shot it in SD.  I have had problem shoots (lighting) that required vast amount of color correction etc. that required many hours of MPEG2 DVD encoding.
Incidentlly I do not export from Premiere (which uses the new copy of the Project on your C:drive), I close Premiere and open AME and use the much faster true project file on my RAID 0 array.

  • Export dump file and log file  name as sysdate in script

    Hi to All,
Can anybody help me to give logical backup export dump file namd log file name is as contain sysdate in its name so that we can Uniquelly identified it.
    Regards
    DXB_DBA

On windows it gets a bit hairy as there really is no clean and nice way of doing it.There are a couple of options.
    1. If you can rely on dateformat not changing, you can use a static substring expression. For example, the following might work w/ finnish locale echo %date:~3,2%%date:~6,2%%date:~9,4%Similarly, when you know the dateformat you can tokenize the output of 'date /t' and discard the tokens you don't want.
    2. You can set dateformat to your liking and then just use %date% in your script
    3. You can run a "SELECT to_char(sysdate,..." into a file and then read that file in your script.
    4. Simon Sheppard also has a solution you could use as a basis. I have a slight issue with the approach, but that could just be me.
    5. Use gnuwin32 or similar ;)
Also note that %date% env var is set automatically from w2k onwards, so some of the solutions might not work w/ older versions.

  • Export RAW-files and its thumbnails from iPhoto

    Hi all,
My Canon EOS 5D makes JPEG+RAW at the same time, which is great. Normally I do not need the RAW files, I work with JPEG in iPhoto 6 (OS X 10.4.11). I only want to keep the RAW-files as "negative". With Automator I want to export the RAW-files automatically to a separate folder which I will then backup to a external HD.
    Automator should do the following:
    1. Copy all RAW-files (extension is .CR2) to a folder on my HD.
    2. Delete al RAW-files and its thumbnails from iPhoto
I have done some tests with Automator, but I did not succeed. Can some body help me?

Hi, Gary. Have you tried converting to DNG, with xmp data embedded in it, then export & burn this?

  • I am trying to export a file and/or an album from Elements 11 to a CD.  Help!

I have been trying to export an album and or a file from Photoshop Elements 11 to a CD and I keep getting the message, "looking for missing file"  I have no idea what missing file is being searched for.
Also, I have down loaded a video from my camera into Elements 11, but am unable to open it there.  It asks for a download of apple quicktime, which I did, but still no go.

    Hi,
Please check Find > All Missing files and delete any missing files in your catalog. Alternatively, you may also choose to reconnect these if you know their location.
As of the video part,  please install Quicktime Player if not already and then check.
    Thanks

  • Export large files and maintaining high dpi

My export default is set to 300 dpi, but it continually exports at 250 dpi -- how can I fix this?  I have very large files, but sometimes when I upload to Photoshop they show at 72 dpi.  Something is off.

Where do you set the export default? There is no Export default, afaik. You can define export presets, to pick from. Which export prset will be applied, depends on how you export.
If you export using the Media Browser - drag from the Aperture window, the Preview will be exported.
If you export an Image Version (File -> Export -> Version), the selected Export preset (in the File chooser) will be used.
If you export a Master (File -> Export -> Master),no export peresets apply, the original master image file will be exported.
If you export to an external Editor, the settings in the Preferences -> Export apply.
So how do you export and "upload to Photoshop to get so surprising results?

  • Export Raw Files and keep XMP data

    Hi,
I can export files from Lightroom to a folder and select original and I will get the raw file along with the xmp file. I therefore have any adjustments I made there with it. If I , however , export files to a folder and select original and chose Burn Files to Disc, the xmp files dont end up on the disc so I effectively lose all the work I have done to them in light room. Is there a way to fix this. Of course I can just export to a folder and then burn from there , but , I really like the way lightroom just burns disc after disc with no hassle. Burning discs from a folder is a hassle.
    Any suggestions?
Thanks for your help in advance !

Hi, Gary. Have you tried converting to DNG, with xmp data embedded in it, then export & burn this?

  • Speedgrade won't export a file, and hangs.

    Hi,
I am just working on my first project in Speedgrade (a music video), which I edited in Premiere Pro and then sent to SpeedGrade. I can't play back in realtime, so I thought to export a low-res preview, however the app claims 100% rendered, though both the pause and stop buttons are still available, and if I try to use them, or quit, I just get a non-responsive pinwheel. And, of course, no rendered file has been created.
I am using a 2.3 GHz Quad i7 MacBook Pro with 16GB of RAM, and 10.8.3.
Though I do like how the tools are manipulating the image, I have suffered a lot of issues with the app. Firstly, I can't get it to use a second (external) display, which makes work rather cramped. This cramped issue is enhanced by the fact that Tab is not hiding any of the pallettes, so I am stuck with a small 4" preview. I can't play back in-app, more than a few frames at a time. I can't seem to delete a new track-layer. And finally, yea, I can't export nor quit.
I tried deleting the User_Settings.xml, as that appears to be the only preference document, but this had no effect whatsoever.
Any thoughts? I assume that the app does function for most people.
    Cheers,
    T

    Hi Bart,
    you nailed it.
The 2nd monitor thing was diabolically difficult. I was so surprised to find that SG is not a new package, but simply something which has been developed - it would appear - in the dark. Though its image processing is very good, the difference in the way that it is written as compared to other Adobe components, is embarrassing. The second monitor thing is automatic, as far as I can tell, in both Prelude and Premiere. At least I didnt have to set anything up, it just happened. Whereas this took over a week for me to figure out, and only because you explained it.
And the export also is confusing. Simply by changing it to one of the presets of ProRes, I got an exported file.
The workflow is still infinitely better than working purely in Final Cut Express - the way I have been working for the past 5 years. Much more intuitive for a 'native' photoshop person.
    Thanks,
    T
