Exporting Interactive PDF

Been trying to export an Interactive PDF but non of the interactive elements work. I've implemented simple roll-overs for a few images, and when I view it in preview it all works fantastic, however once I export the Interactive PDF non of the interactivity works.
This is the first time i've worked using Interactive PDF's and i'm pulling my hair out trying to troubleshoot this issue without much luck finding any revelant information online.

What version of InDesign? What kind of interactivity are you creating?
Be aware that some forms of interactivity do not work in Interactive PDF. Animations and Object States do not work.
You should be able to do buttons, page transitions, hyperlinks, bookmarks, media (video and audio if you choose the correct format).
There is a workaround for animations and object states: You can export them as a SWF file, then place them into the InDesign file and export PDF.
BTW, there is a lot of information in the InDesign Help file. Start there.

  • How to export interactive pdf?

    hi,
    pls help me,how to export interactive pdf?
    thanks,
    vijay

    Hi Vijay,
    you can use following commands to export the interactive PDF
    InterfacePtr<ICommand> pPDFExportCmd(CmdUtils::CreateCommand(kInteractivePDFExportCmdBoss));
    if (pPDFExportCmd == nil)
         break;
    InterfacePtr<IInteractivePDFExportPrefs> pExportPrefs(pPDFExportCmd, IID_IINTERACTIVEPDFEXPORTPREFS );
    if (pExportPrefs == nil)
         break;
    instead of
    InterfacePtr<ICommand> pPDFExportCmd(CmdUtils::CreateCommand(kPDFExportCmdBoss));
    if (pPDFExportCmd == nil)
         break;
    InterfacePtr<IPDFExportPrefs> pExportPrefs(pPDFExportCmd, IID_IPDFEXPORTPREFS);
    if (pExportPrefs == nil)
         break;
    and then set the export options through api IInteractivePDFExportPrefs
    Hope this helps.
    Regards
    Farzana.

  • InDesign | Mystery/unwanted form function appearing in exported Interactive PDF

    I am working on a project for a client that is a large interactive PDF with navigation, built in InDesign.
    On a recent version, exported PDFs on opening say "This document has form data that must be filled out" even though we have built no form function into the IDD document. When I click to "highlight fields" in the PDF, and scan all the pages, nothing is highlighted.
    Does anyone know what is happening and how I might be able to track down and correct the issue?
    Many thanks
    Scott

    For anyone arriving here with a similar problem, the solution is to export the Interactive PDF from InDesign with password security to restrict all changes on the exported PDF. This will eliminate the 'forms' message from appearing when opening the PDF.

  • URGENT indesign fails to export interactive pdf of 700 pages

    Hi everyone!
    This is my first time asking directly for help in the adobe forum, but god nows how many times i found good advice here before, searching for answers to rather simple AND complex questions.
    My problem is:
    I have a book made out of 17 files, summing a total of 706 pages.
    This entire thing is supposed to be interactive - kind of a "consult on the go users manual" for in-house use at a company.
    when i export the book in its total to an interactive .pdf (smallest version, 72 dpi) at about 405 pages it just stops, says that "an error ocurred exporting the .pdf file" and shuts down exporting (not the program though). (It also does not specify the error nor give an error report. it just stops and deletes the half-created pdf-file)
    BUT if i export every file on its own as an individual interactive .pdf it works just fine and no problems appear.
    my question now is: maybe indesign just not capable of exporting such a large interactive file? (with "only appearance" checked, it works just fine)
    the larges file we did in the studio was about 350 pages long - and if i export the book in "2 sessions" (two documents of 350 pages) it takes quite a long time (about half an hour after getting past the last page) but in the end it works.
    i thought about combining the various individual (working) pdf documents - but the links/buttons/etc. get all messed up.
    has this happened to anybody?
    does anybody know how to solve that problem - and if not, if there even is a way? at my understanding right now, it is just not possibe to export an interactive pdf of more than 400 pages from indesign.
    supposedly i have to turn that document in tomorrow midday (european time) so it can be saved onto usb-pendrives for distribution... but right now i'm VERY lost.
    i'd appreciate some advice, and even if it is a straight "it's not possible, too large of a document" would be nice just to get things in my head a little clearer and confront the client with what's REALLY posssible and what is simply not doeable.
    THANK YOU SO MUCH IN ADVANCE!
    Stephanie
    p.s.: despite all the problems (mainly caused by outrageous client/marketing demands) nobody will ever get me hating on inDesign - just gotta looooove that program!

    i ended up changing the system after talking to an adobe engineer as she told me that given the high page number and the awfully heigh number of buttons // links per page (from 10 up to 35) it seemed to be a problem for the program to process all that info. not because of the computers "strengths" but simply because of the complexity of the document.
    now i ended up conserving only a few links and resolved the rest with "markers" (is it called like that in english? -> the ones that appear in the sidebar of the .pdf in acrobat and let you jump directly to the page to which they referr)
    Thank you for all your support and quick answers (i didn't think it would be that inmediate!).
    Definitely going to pay more attention to this forum and give a look around to see if i can help somebody too.
    See you!
    Steph
    p.s.: i thought of that option, but at about 6-12 cross-document buttons per page in a document of 700... i didn't want to get into that mess. if the document weren't as complex it would have been the solution!

  • Indesign cs6, export interactive pdf

    When i export my interactive document to pdf, the result is not working well. All the roll over buttons are blinking when the mouse cursor point on it. also i have problem with layers. the appearance of layers is not as same as file, so some images go under other.
    I have no problem in preview and it works well in preview but when i export to pdf the result is catastrophic.
    Is there anyone have a same problem? Or anyone know what i am doing wrong?

    I am having the same problem. Here are my screenshots. In Acrbat 10, in the layers pane, the layers names show up correctly, but in the actual graphics of the PDF, the layers are displayed in the reverse order.

  • Indesign CS6, export interactive pdf missing...

    Hi everybody,
    Can anybody tell me the solutions, When i export my interactive document to pdf,
    frist 3 pages go well, but after that all pages the text that contains links are missing.
    Even i take mouse over to those links it shows the handover, but text appearing and links does not work.
    I have tried in cs3 too, but same problem continues. (i am working on In Design CS6)
    Can anyone tell me the solutions ?
    Thanks

    Make sure you're choosing File > Export > Adobe PDF (Interactive) and NOT  Adobe PDF (Print).
    Make sure you're previewing in Adobe Acrobat Pro or Adobe Reader and NOT other PDF readers (like Mac Preview).

  • Exporting Interactive PDF with MP4 File

    I am trying to export a file from InDesign for work.  We send out daily email with PDFs from InDesign and would like to include from training videos.  How can we include the MP4 format video so we can watch them in the PDF we send out.  I've read through the Interactive PDF guides and forums.  A still image of the first frame of the video appears, we can't get it to play.
    Thanks!
    Adam

    While including an MP4 video is good if you know the recipient is using Acrobat/Reader on a desktop computer, the content may or may not work on a tablet or smartphone. I'd go with Wilhelm's suggestion of providing a link.

  • InDesignCC. How to keep image quality with exporting Interactive PDF?

    Hello everyone, I'm using InDesign CC, I'm exporting a PDF that has PNG images, the problem is that I'm loosing the sharpness and the pureness in the images after exporting the file into PDF Interactive... the Settings I'm using for Image Handling are Compression: Automatic , JPEG Quality: Maximum, Resolution PPI: 300..
    The file size is "Letter" with web Intent (792px x 612px) the images I'm using are big and have great quality, can anyone tell me how I export into PDF interactive without loosig images quality? I want to keep this pureness and sharpness in the images
    Thanks in advance

    It depends on the image. Best way for us to advise you is to open your image, then go to Image > Image Size and upload a screen capture of the Image Size box with the readings.
    What you might have working against you is not enough pixels. Upsampling may just make it blurred. But we will see.
    300 ppi is also not carved in stone, you may get away with 200 ppi depending on where you are sending it for printing.
    And lastly, if you are paying a commercial printer to do this, it's best to consult with them and see what they can do.

  • Export Interactive pdf

    Hi!
    I have a problem exporting an interactive pdf presention.
    I had to do that on a 1280x800 screen dimension.
    I created the presentation based on it, but when i'll export the presentation and I try to view on full screen mode I can't see it correctly.
    The first page appears ok, but from the second to the last the presentation appears bigger and not centered.
    Do you know why?
    thank you very much
    franz

    Are all pages the same size?
    If you use InDesign CS5 or above make really sure that ALL pages have your intended dimensions:
    Either click the (if you are a former InDesign-CS4-or-below-user, then it's the NEW) "Page"-tool in the tools palette, go through your pages and compare the values OR enable InDesign's preflight feature and configure a new preflight profile with "Pages differ in size or orientation" checked under the "DOCUMENT" tab.

  • Export Interactive PDF scales page...

    I've created an interactive PDF in InDesign using the latest version (7.0.3) and while everything works just fine, videos play as expected and such, the pages themselves are being scaled up, which is causing some terrible alaising. I'm setting the layout as 'For Web' with a 1024x768 document size in Indesign. Then I export to the interactive PDF using the defaults and in Reader I need to scale it to 66% to make the same size as in InDesign at 100%. Any ideas why the scale issue, I'm completely stuck. Thanks-

    I guess I wholeheartedly disagree on that point then. When I design motion graphics, I have the control over how it looks (i.e. I know a DVD by its resolution and aspect ratio) I have the control over how the printed page looks when I create ads for magazines (i.e. I know the final page size, line screen and color gamut) and when I create a website I have control over the CSS tags on how to display the graphics on the screen. In every other instance you have that benchmark of control through standards and calibration, so the 100% on one *really* should match the 100% on the other, that's all I was asking for. Then when users scale the page, that's fine, they know they are scaling the page (and things might not looks as good), but if the graphics look poor at 100%, then they tend to blame the designer.
    I suppose it could use vector art in the PDF it would be a non-issue, but in this case, I'm re-purposing bitmaps from another project (that I didn't create) so the aliasing and such from the scaled page drove me nuts. I'm much too much of a control freak to allow that to be ok or to expect the user to adjust their displays. We all know that most users (99%?) leave their programs (and TVs) at the default settings, so at least I'd like the know that upon initial opening that there's some expectation of controlling the experience. I guess maybe interactive PDF isn't the method for me. Thanks again though for your help and insights.

  • Re: Movie Clip not working in exported interactive PDF. Can anyone help?

    I've imported a movie clip into an InDesign document, but when I've come to export it as an interactive PDF it isn't working. I've made sure the Button and Media box is clicked in the export options to include all. I've exported it as a flash file and that works fine, so I'm assuming everything i've done in InDesign is okay. Any ideas?

    Im having a the same issue, i have 2 f4v files inplace and one SWF. And when I export to a SWF and bring it back into indesign to be exported as an interactive PDF it the 2 f4v and SWF files in it will not work.

  • Problem with photo quality when exporting interactive pdf

    Hi guys!
    I made a simple pdf with before/after retouching samples with photos overlayed, changing on mouse rollover.
    When I export it as an interactive pdf (on lossless jpeg quality), the photo quality on the final pdf looks like a jpeg on 40% quality, really bad. Rollover works.
    When I export it as a pdf for print on high quality - the photo quality in the final pdf is flawless but rollovers dont work.. (I checked "Interactive Elements: Include Appearance) but still nothing..
    Pleeease help cause I can't find a way. I just need the rollovers to work and to have the photos in the best quality possible.
    Thanks,
    Jelena

    If you haven't already you need to change the resolution as well.  Like this:
    72ppi is the default which in theory should be fine for on screen viewing, but play around and use what works for you.

  • How to export interactive PDF to web

    I used InDesign 5 to create an interactive document...I saved it as an interactive PDF.  I opened it on my computer...looks great, works great.  But I cannot figure out how to upload the doc as to the web and preserve the interactive capabilities.  I have uploaded it to ISSUU, Goggle Docs, and my wordpress website.  The result is just a read only PDF - no interactive elements.  Can anyone help me?

    Any service which converts the PDF into another format (Issuu, Google Docs, etc) will remove the interactivity. You should simply transfer the PDF to your website as a regular file, and either link to it or use an HTML <embed> code to display it. Linking is better as it will avoid error messages for people who don't have a PDF reading application installed.

  • InDesign - exporting interactive pdf with page curls issues

    I followed a Rufus Deuchler adobe tv video called "InDesign: creating interactive pdfs with page turn and flash animations"  and I was able to create an Interactive Pdf document with page culrs but it is limited to only my mac Book Air as when I sent it as an attachment (pdf) it did not work on any other PC or mac.
    Have  I missed the point or have I not done something as I thought the video mentioned that any adobe reader could view the interactive pdf (ie on other PCs or tablets)?
    Thanks
    David

    Only Adobe Acrobat or Reader can show those PDFs (and many others) correctly. Are you sure that the PDF was opened in one of these 2 applications and not in Apple Preview or Ghostviewer or something else?
    Only Adobe Reader 9 and X and Acrobat 9 and X can show PDFs with Flash content correctly. If you have an older version, let us say Version 8 or older, you are not able to see Flash content at all. If you have a newer version, that is Reader XI or Acrobat XI you need additional Adobe Flash player have installed on that computer and allow access to your PDFs. Can you check, if these substantial requirement are fulfilled?

  • Problems exporting interactive PDF in CS5.5

    When I try to use my old PDF settings from CS4 my interactive elements do not work. See the snapshot below.
    I am able to export successfully pressing Command-E and choosing Adobe PDF (Interactive) but the images, at least in the first example I have chosen, do not reproduce properly in the PDF. See comparison of original created in CS4 (left) and the CS5.5 version (right):
    Does anyone have any ideas how to resolve this?
    I am using Acrobat X and system 10.6.8

    I have found the answer to this problem myself!
    Because the interactive setting does not support spot colours being kept it causes problems with any RGB Illustrator files that have been set up using a spot colour. You may well ask why you would want spot colours in an RGB Illustrator file. Well, it's to keep any Lab values intact, but to get around the PDF colour issue you can't have any spots used in this way.
