Exporting issues from PDF to Microsoft Word

I have a user that received a PDF document that was originally created with InDesign CS3. She wants to make changes to that document, but we don't have InDesign CS3, trying to use the Export to Word function instead. When we go to export the PDF into Microsoft Word, most of the document doesn't export, and in my case, Word crashes every time I try to open.
My only question is this. Is that expected behavior? And if so, she'd need to get InDesign CS3 to make her changes?

>My only question is this. Is that expected behavior?
Probably. There are many things that can be done in InDesign that can't be replicated in Word. That could be part of the issue.
>And if so, she'd need to get InDesign CS3 to make her changes?
That wold be the recommended way yes. The PDF is a final product. You should always make edits to the original document rather than the PDF.

  • Conversion from pdf to Microsoft Word has problems.

I just purchased adobe pdf conversion tool and when I convert a pdf file to a Microsoft word file there are not capitols, it doesn't match original document margins, some indentions missing, etc.  Has anyone had the same problem and is there a solution?

I don't know what "capitols" are; can you provide a screenshot of both the original and converted documents?

I wanna Convert PDF to Microsoft Word & Microsoft Word to PDF? How do I Do it?

    Hey,
Firstly, you might need to refer this link to check the compatibility of MS Word with your Acrobat version:
Compatible web browsers and PDFMaker applications
Also, let me know what Acrobat version are you using?
You can choose "File>Save as Other> Microsoft Word" to convert PDF file to Word.
And, while exporting a word file to PDF, either you can use Adobe PDF printer option from the File menu or Acrobat ribbon from the menubar.
Please check and let me know.

  • Converting from PDF to MS Word back to PDF

We have documents that are in PDF that need to be updated.  We have discovered that when converting from PDF to MS Word and then back to PDF - the formatting is lost in the process.
Is there a way to maintain the formatting?  Or, can you edit directly in PDF?  Or - will we have to create all new master MS Word documents for future updates?
Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.
    Thank you,
    David Jenkins

You should create master documents in WORD for all documents that you want to update. If you use PDF Maker, the conversion back is a bit more smooth since the structure information is included in the PDF as tags. However, the PDF make end up bloated as a result. You should consider a PDF the electronic equivalent of a piece of paper. If you were to correct paper you would use white-out. If you were to convert it back to WORD, you would scan it, OCR and hopefully have a reasonable result in WORD. You can typically do better with a PDF than with paper, but the concept is still the same. You should never consider creating a PDF as a master document, but always keep the original.
What needs to be done now (if someone deleted all of the originals) is to convert them back and then fix the formating and such. Graphics will typically convert back OK, but maybe not in exactly the way you wanted. Sometimes, you can use export all images (Advanced>Document Processing in AA8) to save the images in the quality you might like.
Editing can be done in a PDF, but should only be for minor corrections. Sometimes, even the minor corrections are a pain. In such cases, you should always work on a copy so you can always go back.
So the answers to what you asked are: 1) with PDF Maker, but not perfect; 2) minor edits, possibly painful; 3) You should create all new master WORD documents and not delete them in the future - not required, but a best route.

  • Help with exporting data from pdf form

I have about 100 pdf forms that I created in adobe forms central and distributed as a pdf form (rather than on the web). I am trying to export the data into a spreadsheet but when I export it, the fields are all jumbled in the csv file, as in they are not in the same order. I need to export the data all together so I'm going to the forms menu and selecting "manage form data" and then selecting "merge data files into spreadsheet". I tried exporting a single file but that gave me something really weird.
Please help, I have a deadline next week to analyze this data and can't make sense of it once it is exported to a spreadsheet.

Would you please share your form with me and send me one of your pdf forms and some of the csv files?
You can share your form by doing the following:
    1. Click on the “Share” icon on the bottom left corner.
    2. Click on “Add Collaborator” on the popup menu.
    3. Enter [email protected] under “People to share with”.
    4. Set subject to "Export data from pdf form"
    5. Click the “Share” button on the bottom right of the dialog.
    Thanks

  • Can't convert an originally Word doc from PDF back to Word

I'm running Windows 7 and MS Office 2010. I edited a 65 pages long doc, which I was recommended to convert to a PDF. Said and done. However now i want to make changes in that doc. I've tried to convert it back to Word but I don't succeed in doing it in spite of all your different advice.
And, as a matter of fact, I'm rather inexperienced in computing.

Hi bernd, I've succeeded in converting from PDF to something - Word perhaps - but it's impossible to edit anything in this converted doc. The cursor just twinkle beside the word I want to edit.

    Hi Nura,
Are you receiving that message for every file that you try to convert? Or is it specific to one file? Are you converting via the ExportPDF web interface, or via Adobe Reader?
Please tell us more about the file or files that you're trying to convert. How were they created? Are they complex (many pages, or mix of different fonts and graphics)?

  • CWK file to pdf or Microsoft word on a windows computer

Could someone please tell me if I can convert a CWK file to pdf or Microsoft word on a windows computer.  I have tried opening the word document and going to the 'open' options etc but this still won't open the CWK file.
Is there something else I can do to open the files or convert them to pdf?
    Thanks in advance!

It seems this is an old Apple Words document. A Google search revealed https://www.google.com/search?q=cwk+files&sourceid=ie7&rls=com.microsoft:en-US:I E-Address&ie=&oe=&gws_rd=ssl  that Word will not do this natively. I was able to see a couple of converters, and it also provided info that LibreOffice, a free open source Office program can open them with exceptions.
How you decide to go about doing this is up to you.

  • Pages from iPad - Export issues with pdf, word

issues when exporting documents out of Pages from iPad using pdf, and getting... "Cannot extract the embedded font 'VZEENN+Georgia-Bold'. Some characters may not display or print correctly". I have 10.5.8 and Adobe latest version 9.4... I have also tried different and more universal fonts on Pages like Arial or Helvetica with no success... Really frustrating to have so critical bugs. Any work arounds from anyone? Thanks!

Yes, you can send the file as an email attachment to yourself and open it on a computer and print.
You can use DropBox to place the files on the computer to print
These are easiest if the file is saved (exported) as a PDF file so it is portable.
You can also use an AirPrint enabled printer and print directly from the iPad without going through the computer.  But buying another printer is much more expensive than the cost ($20) of Pages for the MBP.
If you already have a wireless printer, you can try the website for the manufacturer and see if there is an upgrade for the printer to enable it for AirPrint.

  • How do I export a crossword puzzle from Adobe to Microsoft Word

I think it is pretty much certain that this task is far too difficult. I don't think Word could hold a crossword puzzle (except as a big picture).

  • Error embedding a .pdf in Microsoft Word

I am using MS Word 2013 on Windows 7.  I have Adobe Acrobat XI Pro installed as well, which is set as the default reader for .pdf files on my machine.  (I also have Adobe Reader XI installed).
When I attempt to embed a .pdf file as an object inside of a Word doc (or an Excel spreadsheet), I receive the following error:
This functionality used to work fine in earlier versions of Adobe tools.  From what research I have done on the web, it looks like this became an issue sometime around Adobe Acrobat/Reader v9, and it may be security-related.  I tried some of the suggested fixes (e.g., removing various security settings at startup of Adobe Acrobat or Reader), but unfortunately, none have fixed the issue.  I am able to embed any other file types (e.g., .doc, .txt, etc.) with no issue.  I have found that if I completely uninstall both Acrobat and Reader, then I can embed a .pdf file into a Word doc with no issue.  Then, if I reinstall Acrobat and/or Reader, the .pdf file type is once again recognized inside of the Word doc, and I can successfully open the embedded .pdf from the Word doc as well.  However, I still cannot embed any more .pdfs in a Word doc afterwards (since Acrobat and/or Reader have been installed again), and I'm back to square one.
This may be a Microsoft issue, so I'm not sure if Adobe was the proper place to start, but I'm starting here anyway.
    Thank you.

Hello Vikrantt, and thank you for the response.
    A few things:
    1) I am using Abobe Reader XI, not version X.  I believe that the XI Preferences user interface is slightly different from X, as there is no Enable protected mode at start up under the General category.  However, when I look around, I do see the Enable Protected Mode at startup option under the Security (Enhanced) category, so I cleared that check box and clicked OK. I also manually restarted Adobe Reader XI, as per a message box that popped up after I cleared this option:
    2) I closed all instanced of MS Word 2013, and opened up a fresh instance, but unfortunately, when I try to embed a .pdf document, I now get the following error:
I have Adobe Acrobat Pro XI installed and registered on my machine, so I'm not sure what the issue is.  I have already tried uninstalling both the Reader and Acrobat and reinstalling them, bu that didn't fix the issue.

  • How to convert Images in PDF to Microsoft Word text Properly

I have images in PDF and when I try to convert it to Microsoft word, the "check marks (wingdings)" turn into the letter "D" and the rest have a lot of misspelled words.

PDF page content export reflects the "under-the-hood" quality of how the PDF was made.
This of course is driven, in part, by what the authoring application was, how content was mastered and what process was used to actually paint content to the PDF page.
    http://talkingpdf.org/each-pdf-page-is-a-painting/
    So --- GIGO is operative.
    Goodstuff In = Goodstuff Out
    OR
    Garbage In = Garbage Out.
The export results tell one which of the above is in play.
As well, 'good' export of PDF actually has a prerequisite.
That is one needs a well-formed Tagged PDF.
Tagged PDF has two main design criteria -
    Support Accessible PDF.
Support export of PDF page content
    (See ISO 32000)
Having an ISO 14289 (PDF/UA) compliant PDF provides the "well-formed Tagged PDF".
Aside from ISO 3200 and ISO 14289 additional useful information is available at AIIM's web site.
    http://www.aiim.org/Research-and-Publications/Standards/Committees/PDFUA
    Be well...

  • PDF to MicroSoft Word

Any suggestions as to the best/most efficient way to process Acrobat files to Microsoft word with the least amount of work in re-formatting?
We currently have Acrobat 8 (Windows/OS-XP) and would like to know if there are any layered utilities to speed up the process. Line feed/tables layout are obvious problems areas.
Any suggestions anyone can provide is much appreciated.
    Thanks,

About all you can do in Acrobat is to use the Save As or Export (I think that has been added to AA9) to go to DOC. Reformat issues depend on the way in which the PDF was created. If it was created by PDF Maker with tags and all, then the format should pretty much be maintained. Otherwise, you will be recreating the format. That is why one should not think they can delete the DOC (or other) file once the PDF is created. You always want to retain the originals.
The line feed should not be a problem unless you have done a cut and paste. With the cut and paste, the line feeds seem to be added. It might be they were added with the original creation, in which case there is not much you can do. Within WORD you can do a replace with the special character for FF/LF and go through the document that way (probably the fastest if you can't get around it.
