Exporting jpegs with embedded previews?

For compatibility with a web application I wrote using an old workflow ending with a save-for-web in Photoshop, I need to export jpegs with embedded previews. (Not DNG or other format files with embedded jpeg previews.) This happens by default with Photoshop, but Lightroom doesn't do it and I can't find anything to change that in the settings. Am I missing something? And if this isn't included, is it on the to-do list for improvements?

  • Export as JPEG with embedded colour profile

I want to save my raw image as a JPEG and tag the picture with a printer-specific profile, so I can send to a 3rd party printing company. I have a copy of their profile and placed in the appropriate filder on my system but when I do the export, this profile does not appear as an option in the Color Space drop down. I only get the 3 options as stated in the manual.
"Color Space Converts the photos to sRGB, AdobeRGB, or ProPhoto RGB color space and tags the photos with the color profile."
Is it possible to do what I want with Lightroom? Is there an equivalent of the PS convert to profile facility?
    Thanks
    Lee

What you can do is to create an action -- or better yet, a droplet -- for Photoshop that will provide this conversion to the destination space of your choice. Then you do an export from LR to a 16-bit ProPhoto TIFF, then drag your exported images onto the droplet (which is responsible for the color space conversion as well as dropping down to 8 bits if required). The droplet can help speed up the process if you have lots of these images to do.

  • PDF export - problem with embedded font

    Dear all,
I refer to a problem which was already discussed [here|Export to PDF wrong font;. I was asked to start a new thread and provide further information. Here we are...
The issue is nearly the same:
    - We have a solution which both has a WinForms and an .aspx UI.
    - We have a report, used in both solutions.
    - The WinForms solution uses the Crystal Viewer to preview and print and export and so on.
    - The web solution creates a PDF file and prompts to open or save. In this PDF, the font is substituted with Arial. This is actually the concrete problem.
    1) Version of CR
on MY machine (MAYBE different on production environment, I have to check this):
    Crystal Reports 10 (10.0.0.53327)
Crystal Reports Basic Runtime forVisual Studio 2008 (10.5.0.0)
Crystal Reports runtime engine for .NET Framework 4 (64-bit) (13.0.0.99)
Crystal Reports , version for Visual Studio 2010 (13.0.0.99)
    2) CR Service Packs installed
    Nope.
    3) web / win app?
    Both, see description above.
    4) Is this happening on dev or deployed system?
On deployed system. It ONLY affects the web solution on the server, which is a Win7 64bit. My developement machine also is a Win7 64bit, it works on this device. On a colleagues machine (WinXP) it works, too.
    5) What is the actual font?
The Font was exclusively developed for the customer by a designer, but it is fully embeddable (I already checked this).
    6) Link to a screen shot that shows the issue
I do not know whether this really helps to NOT see a font replaced by Arial...
I hope you can help me. If the description is a little confusing, please ask, I will try to explain better, promised. Thank you, have a nice weekend!
    Greetings,
    Jens

    Hi Don,
thank you very much for your reply!
The font is True Type, embedding allows preview/print.
What exactly does "Then make sure the WEB Servers have access to the font." mean? It is installed on the machine. I'm not really familiar with that server config stuff, as it is usually not my job...
Do we have to install the update (it is called support pack 2, right?) on the developement AND the deployment machine? Or only on the developement environment?
    Best regards,
    Jens

  • Export JPEG with XMP

Is there a way to export a JPEG together with a corresponding XMP? This would help to improve my workflow a lot. I also found no plugins or API for that.
    Bye,

  • How to export jpegs with titles intact?

I am trying to share jpeg photos with my cousin for a geneology project (she is using Windows 7). I have labeled the photos in Apeture and given them a version name, and then a title (with all the people identified) but when I export them to share with her, none of the titles go with the photos - i.e. under "more information" the title is missing and only dimensions and device information is listed. What am I missing? Where did they go?

Are you trying to get the metadata included with the image when you export it or are you trying to get the metadata to display on the image?
If the first make sure you have the Include Metadata checkbox selected in the export preset.
If you want to have the metadata displayed on the image you will need to use a plugin like BorderFX
If it's something else post back and describe what you are trying to do in more detail.

  • Saving InDesign files with embedded preview on server

When I save my InDesign files on my internal hard drive, the preview shows up just fine.
But when I save on my work´s server, the preview dissapears.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks.

I could have sworn that explorer generated its own thumbnail from a tiff image. If I am right then I would say that either the file is actually another format that your program is capable of reading but explorer is not but was renamed to the tiff extention.
Or something happened to the association of the tiff extention.
Something else to check, when exporting the tiff image try an uncompressed version and make sure the byte order is for IBM PC.
I also think image pyramid is not supported (though I am not totally sure what that is, lol.)
One other thing to check, your folder make sure it is not read only and you have enough drive space. These you probably already know, but explorer needs to create a file in that folder that holds the thumbnails.
    Hopefully something above will help...

  • ANN: LRViewer now shows ratings and 100% views; exports JPEGs; customizable

(LRViewer is a free app for the Mac and Windows that allows you to view Lightroom images and metadata without using Lightroom itself. Previously announced here.)
A major LRViewer upgrade, Version 1.1, is now available for download from ImageIngester.com. You can now:
    * See ratings (1 - 5 stars) along with the image file name.
    * Zoom in to see a 100% view, and then pan with the mouse.
    * Export JPEGs with EXIF and XMP info.
This version also includes LRVmaker so that photographers can customize the appearance and behavior of LRViewer for their clients by:
    * Placing a logo on the screen.
    * Showing a button that goes to the photographer's web site.
    * Opening a catalog automatically when LRViewer starts up.
    * Starting with a selected collection or other outline item, and controlling which outline items show.
    * Marking images with a watermark.
    * Preventing clients from accessing EXIF info and metadata, from viewing images above a certain size, and from exporting JPEGs.
For more information or to download LRViewer and LRVmaker, go to ImageIngester.com.

For those of you that have been looking for a tool to 'rescue' your images when you lose your originals, this is it. If you have rendered 1:1 previews, it will even give you that preview from the database. So this is worth buying even if you are just using it as a well designed 'rescue' tool.
Imagine being able to go up to any computer, even if it does not have Lightroom installed, plug in a USB thumb drive, and view a catalog that you put on that thumbdrive. This is what the tool allows. And LRVmaker adds lots of customization if want to leave a copy of your catalog behind for someone else to review.

  • Workflow with smart previews

If I export catalog with smart previews to my laptop, do I need to also have smart previews in files on my destop so that when I reconnect exteranl HD to desktop, it will see the changes?

when you make smart previews and re-import does LR automatically make virtual copies?

  • Exporting OMF without embeded media?

Does anyone know if there is a way to export an OMF file from FCP which does not contain embeded audio media and only data referring to the original source media?
    Thanks for any pointers,
    Daniel

I've checked out the automaticduck website, and it only seems to be able to export OMF with embeded media. If anybody knows if it can in practice perform the function of exporting session data as OMF (without embeded audio media), please let me know.
If not, it's not a bad idea for somebody to implement. Using OMFs in this manner is standard practice in the film industry.
Sound editors don't have receive gigs of audio data every time there is a change in the edit. All they need is a copy of all the source audio files once, then session data OMFs are sent to them as changes occur (via e-mail cause their small). It's very practical, saves a lot of time and HD space.

  • CR report with embedded SWF: Export to PDF displays nothing

I'm creating CR 2008 reports with embedded SWFs as described in the whitepaper [EMBEDDING XCELSIUS 2008 VISUALIZATIONS IN CRYSTAL REPORTS 2008|http://www.businessobjects.com/pdf/product/catalog/crystalreports/cr_xc_integration.pdf].
From CR, I can export the report to html and view the report fine. But when I export to pdf, ppt, etc. The SWFs are not viewable. Is this a bug or by design?
This section of the white paper seems to imply that maybe you cannot export to pdf:
    >TECHNICAL DETAILS
    >
    >Viewing Flash objects embedded in a Crystal Report is supported in the:
    >
    >Crystal Reports 2008 Preview tab
    >Crystal Reports 2008 .NET Webform viewer
    >Crystal Reports 2008 Java DHTML viewer (used in BusinessObjects Enterprise XI 3.0 and other products)
    >
    >Exporting and printing of Flash objects with connections to Crystal Reports data is not supported.
    >
    >Embedded Flash objects that do not have connections to Crystal Reports data can be exported to PDF only.
I'm using the latest version of Adobe products:
    - Adobe Flash Player ActiveX, Version 9.0.124.0
    - Adobe Flash Player Plugin, Version 9.0.115.0
    - Adobe Reader 9, Version 9.0.0
Also, I downloaded [CR Viewer 2008|http://www.businessobjects.com/product/catalog/crystalreports_viewer/] and can see the CR reports I've created with embedded Xcelsius swfs.
    Any information is appreciated. Thanks.
    Tim

    > ... it states in your first post, the export is not supported,
    True. It says:
    > Exporting and printing of Flash objects with connections to Crystal Reports data is not supported.
But I can export such reports to html and view and print the flash objects.
It seems inconsistent to me. I can export static flash charts to pdf, yet I cannot export dynamic flash charts to pdf, which is from Adobe, as is Flash?
I'm hoping this is a temporary bug either in Crystal or pdf reader and is to be fixed in a patch release. Or an explanation of why the limitations exist.
    Thanks for the response.

  • Export sharpening with JPEG's any different in 1.1?

I'm considering making the jump to Aperture and was wondering if one particular issue has been considered in the 1.1 update - JPEG export over-sharpening. Can anyone shed some light on whether Apple turned down the sharpening or if there is a way to control it on export now?
    Thanks.
    Anthony

I’m very disappointed to report that I see NO
improvement on JPEG export of RAW files in the1.1
    version of Aperture.
I am still getting very pixilated jpeg images after
export from RAW, they are garbage and unusable. I
have changed my export setting presets to use the
highest quality (12) and exported at 100%, and turned
off all sharpening and noise reduction. Still the
    exported JPEG’s look terrible. I’m using a Canon 5D
and working with ISO 100 files that are well exposed
    and in perfect focus.
These pictures are not even worthy of emailing.
Does anyone have any suggestions or work-arounds they
have found? Is anyone getting good RAW exports to
    JPEG?
OK, I think I was totally off base and owe Aperture an apology. I was posting one of the effected images to SmugMug when I noticed the photo looked fine in SmugMug, even at original size. This is the same photo that was very pixilated on my Macs monitor. I then emailed the same picture and looked at it on another computer, and again there was no problem with the photo. After checking a few other things it appears that the application Preview is enlarging my photos beyond actual size when I select actual size from the view options. Since the image is being enlarged by Preview beyond the actual size it is causing the pixilated problem. I’m not sure what’s causing this but every jpeg I open with Preview behaves the same way. I’m using a Quad G5 and a 30 inch Cinema Display.
Has anyone else experienced this issue? I just moved over to the Mac a few months ago so please excuse me if there is something obvious that I’m unaware of with this issue.
I am sorry for the false alarm.

  • Export as PDF with embedded profiles for Grayscale images

Does InDesign CS6 export pages with Grayscale images as PDF with embedded profiles?
    Possible profiles, for instance:
    – Gamma 2.2
    – Dot gain 20%
    – Black Ink ISO Coated v2 (ECI)
    Export mode:
    – Acrobat 5 or higher
    – No color conversion
    – Embed all profiles
    Test by Acrobat Pro
Advanced > Print production > Preflight > PDF analysis > List objects using ICC/Lab/Calibrated Color
[The question is not about the export of Color images as Grayscales]
    Best regards --Gernot Hoffmann

I wouldn't ever use different RGB profiles and different CMYK profiles and
different Gray profiles in one doc – it's just necessary for tests.
If you had a hypothetical case where your InDesign document's assigned CMYK profile and intended output was ISOcoated_v2_300_eci and you recieved grayscales for placement with different gray profiles assigned, I think you would have to make the conversion in Photoshop if you want the grayscales to be converted to your ISOcoated_v2_300_eci output intent space.
So in this case I have a grayscale image with Dot Gain 10% assigned and you can see the 50% patch is reading as 50% in Info panel:
If set my Working Gray space to the ISO Coated profile as above and do a Convert to Profile with the Destination set to Working Gray:
The preview doesn't change but I get converted gray values—50% is now 44%:
If I place the grayscale in an InDesign doc with ISOcoated_v2_300_eci assigned as the CMYK profile, the preview won't change (you have to turn on Overprint /Sep Preview), and the converted numbers will show in Separation Preview. The preview and numbers will also be unchanged in Acrobat if you export to default PDF/X-4

  • Lightroom 4.1 exported JPEG files are not recognized by Apple Preview App

I just started using Lightroom 4.1 Trial version (coming from Aperture). I exported JPEG versions of some images using an ICC profile. On my iMac running Lion 10.7.5 the pictures do not show a thumbnail, the file on the desktop just shows "JPEG". I could not open the file with the Preview App, but I am able to open it with DPP (Canon software)? Also the file shows that it has 0 x 0 dimentions when I click Get Info even though it is about 25 Megs in size?
    The message I get is
"The file “Edit-739820120223Canon EOS 7D.jpg” could not be opened.
It may be damaged or use a file format that Preview doesn’t recognize."
Does anyone know why this is hapening?
Is it a know issue between Adobe and Apple?
Is there a fix for this?
    Thanks for help in advance.

25MB is quite a large filesize for a JPG, and this might be either quite a lot of pixels saved at a very "high" quality (not very much compressed), or it may be an extremely large number of pixels saved with medium compression.
While the technical spec of the JPG format imposes an absolute limit on maximum width and height pixel dimensions, some software employs a lower limit above which it considers the file to be invalid. Different programs, different limits, sometimes.
I have encountered this (for example) with pano stitched images using the full resolution of a large number of component shots - where JPG output could not be made, or if made, could not even be viewed as a whole by my standard image viewer (though TIFF was still OK even at still larger sizes).
If Lightroom has been set to a large printed size AND to a high ppi resolution, it is easy to get into very high numbers and very large output files. One should IMO at least question the utility and benefit of using very high ratios of upsampling from a standard digital photo - which may happen in some cases as a result of using the same output settings regardless, when spreading the same data across both small and large scales. If the file that was imported into LR really does provide an unusually high number of pixels expressing lots of detail, then that will better deserve such a capacious output file. Otherwise, each part of the file may merely show a very highly detailed representation, of a very blurry nothing-much-in-particular.
If the JPG has exceeded the viewer's size limits, a reported width and height of 0 may represent an error message, in effect - not actual reality.
    regards, RP

  • Problem with embedded captions in quicktime export

    Hi,
I'm trying to add embedded closed captions to a video. I just installed the latest version of Premiere Pro yesterday on my Mac. Should be simple, but alas!
I have this 3 minute video file: https://www.dropbox.com/s/5t9s1kgpa8s3f76/Revver%20Introduction-1080p.mp4
To which I added this .scc caption file: https://www.dropbox.com/s/2ickt0al7v6ggb2/rev3.scc
Things look great in the Premiere preview pane: http://screencast.com/t/HFZLVj6OX
But when I export as a quicktime video with embedded captions, I get a garbage output: https://www.dropbox.com/s/j3bmcx9yk5uuhy0/Revver%20Introduction-1080p-CC.mov
The closed captions display way more rapidly than they do in the Premiere preview pane. I didn't mess with any of the export settings - here's what I selected to get the export: http://screencast.com/t/dgx8a4v5sl7
What's going on? Why is this not working?
    Rory

    Wow that's awesome. Thanks Kevin.
I downloaded your project, located the source files as being on my machine instead of yours, and tried it out. Unfortunately the export still had some issues, but looking at what you did helped me figure out how to start again from scratch and do it correctly.
I think I understand now - I had been creating a sequence by dragging the video onto the new item. So the sequence used the attributes of the video clip. I hadn't realized I could create a new sequence with different attributes, as described in this article http://helpx.adobe.com/en/premiere-pro/using/creating-changing-sequences.html
So I created a new sequence, made sure it had 29.97 fps and correct dimensions (1440 x 1080), dragged in the video and scc, and exported.
    Seems like it worked!
Here's the final verions, with captions embedded. You'll need to download it to see the captions, since dropbox's player doesn't support caption playback:

  • Exporting SpeedGrade Project with Embedded Alpha Channel

Hello! I am currently writing with a problem I can't seem to find a solution for in SpeedGrade. My problem is that I imported footage with embedded alpha channel enabling me to chroma-key out a green screen. I would like to export this file now with the alpha channel still embeded to be delivered to Premiere. Is this possible?
    Your help is greatly appreciated!
    Philip

    Thanks Fran,
    I'm using uncopressed QT, animation.
I did the color correction on a grading track and I think that's what killed the alpha, because when I selected the track with the footage the alpha was being read properly. So what I did instead is I saved a .look file and imported it in After Effects, I rendered from there.
Can you have the grading track read the alpha from the original footage or if not can you copy the attributes from one track to another, as if I was moving all the grading from the grading track to the footage tiself instead of having to do it again from scratch?
    Thanks again,
    David.
