Exporting Keynote files

I have to create a PC PowerPoint presentation. I currently have Keynote '09 Version 5.0.5 (942) which I have used to create 3 samples slides, exported them as a PPT file but my partner who uses PC PowerPoint cannot open the file because of this error message:  "...part of file missing."
How do I solve this problem? I have only a few days to complete this job!!
Thanks
Mates

Depends on what is on the slides and what version of PP your partner is using. There have been some reports of PP 2011 not being able to open PP exports from Keynote. You need to open the file first in PP 2004 or download NeoOffice or OpenOffice and open and save them there first.
Also, when you export to a PP if you have picture or movies in the Keynote, they are not embedded in the PP file like they are in the Keynote file. You should see a new folder created that is titled filename.ppt_media. You need to include this folder with the PP folder for everything to work.

  • Export Keynote files as pdf

I've just updated Keynote 5 1 1. When I export a keynote file as PDF I get the PDF slides in wich the date of creation showed. how can I avoid this feature?

I can't remember if this is possible or not as I don't have a Mac available to check, but…
You can add a folder to the PDF Services menu by adding an alias to your Dropbox folder in the PDF Services folder in your Library. That folder will show up in the PDF popup menu in the print dialog.
Then, try to create an Application Shortcut with the name that shows up in the PDF popup menu.
You'd then have to Cmd-P to bring up the dialog, then type the shortcut you made for the PDF menu item.
The first part has worked in the past, but I'm not sure where the PDF Services are stored in Mavericks.
The second part, creating the shortcut to the PDF Services menu, I only think works. I vaguely remember reading that it can be done, but as I stated earlier, I don't have a Mac available right now to verify.
As an alternative, you might be able to create an Automator Service that gets the selected message, converts it to pdf, and saves it into your Dropbox folder. Without a Mac, I don't think I can effectively describe how to build that. If you haven't got this solved in the next couple of weeks, I might be able to work out the Automator method.

  • How do I export Keynote file to Powerpoint as ".ppt" rather than ".pps"?

    Greetings,
have not been able to export from Keynote4.0.1 (OSX 10.4.10)
to Powerpoint .ppt format, only to .pps
is there a setting somewhere in preferences?
when i try to change the file name suffix to .ppt it still appends to .pps
    any clues or advice?
need to export as .ppt file for use in another app. (Impatica)
thanx in advance for any help!
PS if you have a G4 Powerbook with bad LCD, please post on the proper forum category to request that Apple consider a recall for this growing problem!!
    http://discussions.apple.com/forum.jspa?forumID=1029

    greetings,
    -- have found solution!
-- depends on the nature of the initial PowerPoint file, whether imported to Keynote as .ppt or .pps (embedded or linked media)
-- have been importing/exporting between Keynote & PP to refine the presentation for best cross-platform delivery as part of my edit process. as other have stated, on this discussion forum--there are a number of incompatibilities, when re-exporting your beautiful content rich Keynote presentation back to the MS PP format.
-- it is best to be selective with your template choices & linked/embedded media files while working in Keynote... if you have high expectations for playback in MS PP you'll be disappointed. export to a QT movie for an excellent rendering of effects (not to mention, addtl. editing capabilities in QT Pro) & hope the end user has a plugin! much better than a less pleasing MS PP playback.
    welcome other solutions/experiences here; please.
    thanx,

  • Unknown error when trying to export keynote file to powerpoint

Is there a size limit to the export? I have an 80MB file I would like to export. Smaller files have exported successfully, but now I am getting this totally unhelpful error message:
    An unknown error occurred.

Mmmm - so it won't even allow sharing as an uncompressed full-quality QT file. Does it include iTunes store tracks? (don't know if that would cause your particular problem). Could you test by creating a new project with just a few pics (drag and drop from your current project) and without the music track? Or maybe just do a Save As, and trash the music from it.

  • Wish to post KeyNote file as pdf. Export from KN to iW not working

Wish to post KeyNote file as pdf. Export from KN to iW not working - get blank screen. Tried to upload PDF to mobile me and link to that file - also didn't work. I'm not familiar with iFrames but have read about them in this forum - is that my only option? Why wouldn't a KN export work?
    Thanks, Brian

I have just tried this with a test site and publishing to a folder and it does work perfectly for me.
I had a Keynote document already so all I did was click on File and then selected the Print option. I then selected the save as pdf option the the pdf document was created on my desktop instantly.
All I then did was open iWeb and type some words in a text box My Prices. I then highlighted My Prices and opened the Inspector and went to Hyperlink and clicked on the option Hyperlink to a file. I then selected the pdf file from my desktop.
I then used ftp to a folder on my desktop and when I opened the appropriate page, I click on the words My Prices and the pdf file opened straight away.
As OT has suggested, check that you have linked to the correct file. If it does not work, either you have not created the pdf correctly or at all or you have not linked to the correct file.
As I said, it worked for me.

  • How can I make Keynote files read-only (eg: to share with students)?

I would like to share some keynote files with students, and I would like to set them up as read-only, so that the students can tap the screen, read my presentation, but not alter it.  I've tried to set the files up as read-only on my iMac desktop, but when I load the file onto my iPad, it's still editable.
Any ideas re: how to make Keynote files read-only?
I've tried to export the files as PDF and load them into iBook, but some of Keynote's basic "build" functions won't work this way.  Specifically, I have files set up with questions and answers (ie - a question appears, and you have to tap the screen to see the answer, but this "build" function seems to disappear when I get it to show up in iBook).
Any ideas how to make Keynote files read-only?  I am happy to use another program, but I want the students to tap the screen in order to see the answer to a question.
    Thanks!

as long as $PATH is set, you shouldn't need to reconnect them (i think).  if you send the list of apps through | awk -F '/' '{print $NF}' | that'll strip the path
/edit: added the "(i think)" part

  • Quicktime Export - Keynote, Streaming, and Movie Controller Settings

A few questions regarding qt export from keynote -
Is there a way to save quicktime export settings in keynote? Right now I'm exporting multiple files to custom sizes, and have to manually enter the size every time.
I'm exporting for streaming as well, and have to select it in the qt settings window every time.
also, is there a way to choose to show the movie controller when exporting a movie? Now I have to open the movie after export in qt pro and choose window>movie properties>presenation>movie controller type>movie controller (it defaults to none when exporting from keynote).
also, oddly enough, is seems that saving the movie after choosing to show the movie controller removes the streaming setting (movies wait to load completely before playing).
    Thanks!

No answer to the main question...but the final question--
When you edit a QuickTime movie, even if the edit is merely to change the settings on the controller, it breaks fast-start. You should be able to fix it by doing a "Save As..." instead of saving the movie in place. But that doesn't seem to work in all versions of QuickTime; I have noticed that certain versions of QT-7 seem to break fast-start altogether.
There is an app out there called "Lillipot" that will fix this for you. Drag your movie to Lillipot, it does whatever magical conversion is necessary to make fast-start work again.

  • Missing fonts in Keynote file : how to replace them ?

When opening a Keynote file that had fonts not installed on the system, an alert window used to open.
You could then easily replace the missing fonts with other ones installed.
    Not anymore !
The alert window still appears in Keynote V6, but the "replace font" option is missing.
Does anyone know a workaround ?

yeah, I tried the whole modifying the master slide thing but the missing fonts aren't on there, they would have come from slides I deleted as well or already replaced the fonts on so not sure why they are lingering....
oh wait...I think I might have just figured out something. The whole "revert to previous version" wouldn't that have something to do with still remembering fonts used in a previous version? I'm going to try and see if I can duplicate the current document in some way that makes it a new version with no history in it.
Other than that I was going to try exporting to '09 do the replace fonts tool that was in there and then open it back up but I'll have to modify the transitions and shadows that were new to current version of keynote.

  • Why can't I send a Keynote file as a male attachment?

When I try to attach my file in macmail I get a safari error message.

    a male attachment, huh.
I'm goiing to assume Mail, but hey, that first one was the best mispelling I've seen all day.
    Keynote files are specialized folders called Packages. Inside each are all the items you have placed in your presentation, as well as all the supporting files (textures, backgrounds, 3d graph stiff, etc) {uh... 'stuff' I mean to say 'stuff'. Honest}
As such, you cannot mail it without compressing it.
Something else to consider is whether or not the other party has Keynote as well. If they don't then mailing the presentation becomes a moot point because they won't be able to open it. If they don't have Keynote, and you want to share for collaboration, then you will have to export it as a pdf or as a Quicktime movie. A Quicktime movie with all the various transitions and builds can be quite large, so bear that in mind when it comes to using email to share it.

  • Keynote file from 6.5.2 won't open in either Keynote 6.2 or Keynote

    Hello,
I'm having problems opening Keynote (.key) files sent from a colleague.  I've tried to open the file in Keynote 6.2, but get the error ""File.key" can't be opened" and in Keynote 5.3, but get the error "Unable to open "File.key" because it isn't a valid Keynote document."
He has sent me the files through Slack both as .key, which didn't work, and within a zip file, which didn't help either.
My colleague is using Keynote 6.5.2 and I'm using Keynote 6.2 and have tried also in Keynote 5.3.
    Can someone please help?
    Thanks!
    Brad

New Keynote file types can't be opened in older versions of Keynote.
Ask your colleague to convert the file to the older iWork 09 file type and send that to you.

  • Exporting Keynote 4.0 to Powerpoint 2007 and 2008

I know that this topic has been discussed previously with respect to Powerpoint 2007 but I'm somewhat frustrated with the export to powerpoint feature in Keynote. Some background:
    1. Using keynote since version 1.0
    2. Never had a significant problems with exporting to Powerpoint 2004 (minor issues aside)
    3. Keynote files exported to .ppt don't open in Powerpoint 2007/2008 (exect very basic files). Exported file can be opened in 2004....
    4. Thought that it was an issue with Powerpoint but after trying various combinations now convinced that it is Keynote.
    Any ideas?

I have the same problem. When I export a Keynote 4.0.1 presentation to Powerpoint, it cannot be played with the new Powerpoint 2008 on that same Mac (Powerpoint crashes), and it cannot be played on a Windows machine with Powerpoint 2007 (puts Powerpoint into a weird state).
I can take that exported Powerpoint to my iMac where I haven't upgraded to Office 2008 and play it on the older Powerpoint 2004. If I bring the exported Powerpoint (from Keynote 4.0.1) into Powerpoint 2004 and then do a SaveAs from Powerpoint 2004, I can play THAT EXPORT with Powerpoint 2008 on my MacBook Pro.
Keynote 4.0.1 needs to be fixed soonest!

  • Emailing Keynote files

    Hi
I cant email my keynote files to a college overseas. When I attach the file it is not attaching the Package contents but just the keynote file name. I can of course export to powerpoint but this never seem to work seamlessly without text realigning on serveral pages.
Is there some way I should attach the file with the package contents?
    Thanks for your help

    Welcome to the discussions,Selwyn.
Since all iWork files (and many other files on the Mac) are packages, you need to Archive them before emailing as the "internet" will see these files as folders otherwise. Just Right-Click or Control-Click on the file's icon and choose *Create Archive of "filename"*

  • Keynote file vanished into thin air

I have recently encountered this extremely frustrating situation where my keynote file that contained over 100 slides just disappeared into thin air. It is not located in the folder where it's supposed to be and does not appear under recently open folder. The only place that it shows is under apple > recent items but nothing happen when the file is clicked. I have found similar discussion thread regarding this issue and apparently less people are facing this problem with the new updates (I suppose). This is actually the first time I have this issue with Keynote (6.2.2), it has been an amazing software.
    Keynote crashed, presentation file disappeared
I forced restart last night but I made sure the file was saved to the latest version and this morning I updated OSX to Maverick 10.9.5, so I'm not sure at which point the problem occurred nor which caused this to happen.
Have anyone found a way to recover the file that seems like it never exists? I have tried iSkysoft Data Recovery but the file is not in the folder I placed, plus disk utility did not work for me as well. For the time being, I will just have to start over and make sure to backup the file somewhere else but any kind of suggestions would be appreciated.

    Hi Dickey,
    Didn't you backup the Bookmarks.plist ??
When not than I'm afraid that they are all gone as you said, but when you use Fire Fox to as second web browser you can export the Bookmarks back to Safari.
Good luck ... post back how things went ...

I would like to know what if I need to jump back to the previous slide in the mov file?
I could do it with my 3-finger-swipe on my macbook in the mac version of QT..
but is there a shortcut for this to be done on a windows QT?
    Many thanks!
