Exporting messages in Mail.app to PDFs w/ Automator

Hi all,
I have about 100 emails to print. All are open. I'm trying to make an automator action that:
- Selects each message's window
- Chooses "Print"
- Chooses" PDF > Save to PDF..."
- and saves to a folder on my desktop.
I have never used automator and have tried to make it but quickly got confused. Can anyone help me out?

Hi Alec, I don't know if this will help but in the Application>AppleScript>Examples>Printing Scripts folder there is a script to convert items to PDF. You can set up Automator to get the Mails then run script and move them to a folder....
Hope it helps,
Glynn

    Back up all data.
Launch the Font Book application and validate all fonts. You must select the fonts in order to validate them. See the built-in help and this support article for instructions. If Font Book finds any issues, resolve them.
From the application's menu bar, select
    File ▹ Restore Standard Fonts...
You'll be prompted to confirm, and then to enter your administrator login password.
Boot in safe mode to rebuild the font caches. Boot again as usual and test.
Note: If FileVault is enabled on some models, or if a firmware password is set, or if the boot volume is a software RAID, you can’t boot in safe mode. In that case, ask for instructions.
Also note that if you deactivate or remove any built-in fonts, for instance by using a third-party font manager, the system may become unstable.

There are no alternative voicemail apps - the core functionality of the phone can not be replaced.
You'll have to look for an external service, that can then forward calls for each caller onto the correct phone.
At our business we use Voipfone.co.uk which allows multiple phone lines to come into one VOIP account.

  • Export feature in Mail.app literally does nothing?

I used to use the export feature in Mail.app fairly frequently to back up my GMail and some other email to a local disk.
Now the export feature seems to do almost literally nothing.
No matter what account, folder, sub-folder, or "mailbox" I choose, when I export it, I end up with 3 files: Info.plist and table_of_contents, both of which are trivially small (maybe 30 to 200 bytes) and an mbox file, which should contain my emails, but it's zero bytes.
Is anyone else seeing this problem?

Have you applied the latest Mail update from the Apple Downloads site: Mail Update for Mavericks. This Apple document describes the fixes: OS X: About Mail Update for Mavericks

  • Garbled messages in Mail.app (using Gmail IMAP)

Several of my archived messages in Gmail are displaying with garbled headers in Mail.app, which is configured to access my Gmail account via IMAP. Here's what the headers look like:

    +Content-Type: text/plain;+
    charset="us-ascii"
    +Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit+

Note that the message displays perfectly in Gmail on the web.

Yesterday I tried to move all my messages from Gmail to MobileMe to work around this. I created a new label "Archive" in Gmail web and marked all my mail in "All Mail" with this label so they would show up in IMAP. In Mail.app I disabled "Move messages to Trash" to avoid having them deleted.
Unfortunately I could not move my messages, around 1 out of 50 had the problem described above, so MobileMe did not allow me to upload them because of the missing headers. These were old messages, never opened by Mail.app earlier, and it was true that they missed some headers: they were exported from Outlook and Opera Mail years ago. But still they had all the header fields a mailer would display (To, From, Cc, Subject). Anyway the fact Mail.app cannot display these properly is perhaps acceptable in this case.
However the problem being unable to display certain recently received, archived messages on my Gmail account still applies. Those messages were not modified in any way, only Gmail and Mail.app were used to access them.
Needless to say, the old messages mentioned above that went through Outlook and Opera Mail look OK both on the web and in Thunderbird, too. At least I knew that I realized early that I could not move all messages this way to MobileMe. I am going to try moving my messages again with Thunderbird now.

  • How to use single key to color a message in Mail.app?

I would like to be able to color code a message's line in the main message summary window by pressing only a single key. In thunderbird, this is accomplished by pressing 1 to 5, each corresponding to a different color.
Mail.app allows coloring a message, to my knowledge, only by bringing up colors chooser and then selecting a color (by default in a inprecise color wheel).
How do a make "hot keys" for specific colors?
    thanks

To answer my own question: Leopard and Mail.app don't suport this directly.
What works is using Fastscripts Lite to bind application-specific hot keys to some simple applescripts.
Here is one such script, modeled on an Apple sample script:
    using terms from application "Mail"
    tell application "Mail"
    set selectedMessages to selection
set selectionCount to (count of selectedMessages)
repeat with messageNumber from 1 to selectionCount
set theMessage to item messageNumber of selectedMessages
set background color of theMessage to green
    end repeat
    end tell
    end using terms from

  • How to archive a message in mail app and delete in imap gmail

I've been searching the forums before asking this but have failed to find the answer.
I'd like to, if possible, use the archive function in my mail app on iMac to archive and store messages locally. At the same time I'd like to delete those messages from the Gmail servers so that my archived messages only sit on my iMac.
I've tried but Gmail creates an [IMAP]/Archive folder with the messages that I've archived on my mac.
    Is this possible?
    Thanks in advance

    Thankyou
Yes, I tried that already and it successfully stores the email locally, "On my Mac", however, the email remains within Gmail's All mail folder and is therefore not removed from Google's servers.
Is it possible to achieve this without having to go into Gmail and separately deleting the mail from All mail?
Would like to avoid the duplication if possible.
    Thanks

  • 'Unable to move message' iOS7 mail app

Everytime i try to delete email(s) on the standard apple mail app on my iPhone 4s the process wont complete saying 'Unable to move message'. i have tried deleting and re adding the account, rebooting my phone syncing with iTunes and nothing seems to stop the message appearing. I know the error doesn't lie with the account as i can send emails from the outlook website and complete the processes on there. I don't know what else to do now...

    Hi Peter,
since its now January 2010, I sure hope you have resolved this issue! I had the same problem after I had to restore my iphone G3. Anyway, played around a bit and was able to fix by changing the "deleted mailbox" behavior...to use the trash on the server vs on "my iphone"
    here it is:
    settings/mail,contacts/accounts (choose yours)/advanced/deleted mailbox/
then click the trash bin on the server.
this should also work for your sent mail behavior.
    hope this helps!

  • Con't. Serious error message re Mail.app w/respect to Mail Preferences not opening...

    Hi all (& Linc)
    In an earlier thread,
    https://discussions.apple.com/message/25906027#25906027
I prematurely reported a problem with Mail.app prefs not opening as being solved, when it turns out it hasn't been. The freezing of Mail.app upon invocation of Mail Prefs reintroduced itself, both with a suspected culptrit (the great DPS by Bongiovi) turned on and off and Quit Then, without any noticeable input, Mail.app suddenly righted itself and works as normal. I ran a test in Console and saw this foreboding log readout. It may still involve DPS. I'm reporting this same to the savvy engineers at Bongiovi, as well. What's to be done? I may be stumped, but I'm not giving up...
    All best,
    David

  • Help, how to export emails from mail app

hi guys: I did not uncheck the box remove emails from the server after ..... so my hotmail on the server are gone. i want to have email copys stores on the server, since i need to check hotmails from any computer, not just on my home computer where the emails backup copys are stored. so i want to export my emails from the mail app in the mac back to hotmail server, how can i do that?? please give me a hand, i will really appreciate

You can do it via Mailbox>Archive Mailbox. And also, based on what you're saying you have Hotmail set up as an POP account in Mail. Don't know if Hotmail offers it, but if you set up the Hotmail account as IMAP in Mail then the behaviour will be different. You will have two copies of the emails on both the server as well as the computer. Go to Hotmail's help section and type in keyboards like "IMAP" and "Apple Mail."

  • Phantom GMail messages in mail.app

    Here's my situation:
At one time I decided it would be lovely to point mail.app at my GMail account. I changed my mind about this pretty quickly (once I figured out that it was going to take approximately 11 years to download all of my gmail messages, since I rarely delete anything from gmail).
The "phantom messages" I reference in the subject line are these: references to gmail messages that do not exist on my machine. During the normal course of using mail, I don't ever see them, but they turn up by the thousands when I search for messages or when I create a Smart Mailbox. I'm starting to suspect that they may be implicated in some of the mail slowness that I have been experiencing, in particular slowness of Smart Mailboxes (which, ideally, I would like to use to organize my RSS feeds).
    Here's what it looks like:
The little "Show in mailbox" text that looks like it ought to be a link is nothing - can't click it, can't highlight it, nada.
I have recently rebuilt ALL of my .plist files in an attempt to address the "mail won't quit" problem (the one that's NOT related to notes or mobile me - seems to have worked, by the way), so I know that's not going to solve the problem. When I look at /Library/Mail, there is no evidence of a GMail mailbox anywhere.
So. Does anybody know how I can get rid of these? There are literally tens of thousands of them - one search turns up over 16000 phantom messages. I can delete them, which makes them not show up in searches anymore. Interestingly, when I delete them they do NOT show up in my Trash... they simply vanish. So I could manually delete them all, but that would take a really long time.

Bump... anybody have any ideas on this one?

  • MAIL-more .emlx files in Library than messages in Mail.app

I have seen that the number of messages .emlx in several Folders and subfolders of my Library/Mail/V2/..... is much more than the actual number of Mails to be seen in the different Folders of Mail.app.   I keep only a limited number of Mails (last few weeks) so it is easy to see the difference; many .emlx go back to 2011.
My Mail in both my iMac and MacBookPro are the result of several migrations from 2005 from 3 MBP and 2 iMac, and they all sync with iCloud. During the time I changed one of the mail accounts from POP to IMAP.  Until about 2010 I had a POP account and I used to copy tha Mail folder from one Mac to another to keep trace of the sent mail which was not possible to sync due to POP account.  I have basically 2 accounts one iCloud and one IMAP.
I have no problem at all on my Macs and my iPhone which Mail but I whould like to know if this left stuff could be cleaned in some way.
    The folder structure is complex.
    Thanks for any suggestion.

    Quit Mail.
Back up all data. That means you know you can restore the Mail database, no matter what happens.
Triple-click the text on the line below to select it:
    ~/Library/Mail/V2/MailData/Envelope Index
Copy the selected text to the Clipboard (command-C). In the Finder, select
    Go ▹ Go to Folder
from the menu bar. Paste into the box that opens (command-V), then press return.
A Finder window will open with a file selected. Move the selected file to the Desktop, leaving the window open. Other files in the folder may have names that begin with "Envelope Index". Move those files, if any, to the Trash. Relaunch Mail. It should prompt you to re-import your messages. You may get a warning that the index is corrupt and that Mail has to quit. Click OK.
Test. If Mail now works as expected, you can delete the file you moved to the Desktop. If you get a warning that the file is in use when you try to empty the Trash, log out and log back in.

  • Can the Date of the messages in Mail.app all appear as "date_sent"?

I have an IMAP mail account, and it has been added into the Mail.app on my Mac (OS X Yosemite 10.10.2).
As I known, a mail message has three "time stamps", which are date_sent, date_received, and date_internal.
The first two time stamps(date_sent & date_received) are stored in the source of the mail message,
and the last one(date_internal) is stored on the mail server.
This date_internal is the time when this mail message is received on the server for the first time.
Normally, date_received and date_internal are the same or very close to each other.
However, when some old mail messages are synced back to the mail server, these two time stamps are quite different.
For example, I miss-deleted some mail messages on the server, and I have the backup files on my Mac, so I can sync these messages back to the mail server through IMAP protocol.
In the situation above, the date_received is still the origin received time because it is always stored in the source of the mail message, while the date_internal then becomes the time when I sync this mail message.
Unfortunitly, Mai.app uses the date_internal as the default Date appearing in the list, not the date_received, not the date_sent, and even no settings about this can be found.
Can the Mail.app shows the date_received instead of the date_internal in my mail list? Thank you so much!
Btw, I have tried the AppleScript to change the dateReceived element, but the system said my operation is not allowed.

    Maybe I'm missing something...?
In Mail.app -> View -> Columns you can add various columns to the view.
Is that not what you want?

  • Snooze email messages in Mail.app

What I am missing is a Mail.app plugin that allows me to snooze messages (just like it is possible with the Mailbox app for iPhone).
    Functionality:
    - I would like to be able to define a snooze period for a message. There should be user-definable presets and the option to exactly specify date and time).
    - Snoozed messages should be moved to a folder "Later".
    - They should be moved back from the "Later" folder to the Inbox when they are due.
    - The extension should work with all email accounts.

Thanks for the replies. But that link does not solve the problem: it just provides workarounds.
I would like to know if there is any way to edit a message that has been received in my mail.app program.
As for any legal issues, I find them to be not very compelling. Although it is true that courts now admit emails into evidence as if they were any other document, that does not suggest that they should not be modifiable. That courts admit such electronic documents into evidence certainly imposes no burden on me, the email receiver, to maintain the email's original format. Moreover, there is nothing improper about making programs or add-ons that facilitate the making of such changes in emails unless and until Congress decides to take up the issue and make it a crime to modify received emails.
Since that has not happened, and is unlikely to in the near future, I would still love it if someone could provide either instructions or some mail.app extension that allows one to edit received emails.
Thanks for any help! - M.
