Exporting Metadata Templates from my old computer
I am trying to Export my Metadata Templates form my old Mac (running on Bridge CS3) to my new Mac (running on Bridge CC).
I have located the folder on my old Mac:
Library/Appliation Support/Adobe/XMP/Metadata Templates
I dropped the Metadata Templates folder onto a memory stick and then transferred it to the same location on my new Mac. However, I still can't see the templates.
If I go to Tools/EditMetadata Template, Tools/Append Metadata or Tools/Replace Metadata, it just says "No Templates"
Please can someone advise what I am doing wrong?
Many thanks
Claire

If you mean the library in your user account you are at the right place. But If there are no templates in this folder on you old Mac then they will not appear in your new one.
Don't remember if CS3 had the same templates, it is a long time ago I used this version. However I do believe the newer versions have better template options to offer due to more fileds (also if I try to recall there was a bit of a problem with the copyright line itself, it stated no copyright by default.
Don't know if you had much but I would prefer to create new ones in CC. Otherwise use your old mac and choose edit templates, pick the ones you need and save them to a place you can find them back. Then copy these to the stick and drag them into the templates folder in the user library of your CC version.
While you are at it, if you had a custom keyword list in CS3 also use same fly out menu and choose export, then import again in new version to have this list available in CC, if not you will end up with italic keywords and have to choose 'make persistent' for each keyword.

Found the correct directory, but not there. my computers are connected on a network, so I don't know what I am doing wrong? Anyone have any ideas?

Hi guys,
I got an ipad 2 running on iOS6 and I'ld like to put my photos and songs from my old computer (mac Osx 10.4.11) to my ipad. The trouble is that Ipad needs itunes 10.6.3 at least and that my computer can't receive this version as it is running on 10.4.11.
Would anyone have a solution to that problem? For photos: You can use a USB flash drive & the camera connection kit.
Plug the USB flash drive into your computer & create a new folder titled DCIM. Then put your movie/photo files into the folder. The files must have a filename with exactly 8 characters long (no spaces) plus the file extension (i.e., my-movie.mov; DSCN0164.jpg).
Now plug the flash drive into the iPad using the camera connection kit. Open the Photos app, the movie/photo files should appear & you can import. (You can not export using the camera connection kit.)

What is best way to copy the entire LR-3 catalog from an "old" computer to a "new" computer?
I just purchased a new desktop computer and installed LR-3 ver 3.6 on it. I would now like to transfer/copy everything (including negatives) in the LR-3 catalog of my old computer to the new computer. What is the best step-by-step procedure to do so? Should I copy to an external hard drive first and then import to new computer? I have saved a copy of every photo imported to the old computer in an external hard drive but I am not sure if I should use these files or rather export the entire catalog from the old computer to an external hard drive by starting in the library, highlight "All Photographs" under catalog, and then proceed under "file tab, export as catalog". Then import the catalog to the new computer. Any advice?

I would recommend using the Export as Catalog including Negative files to the external and then copy those files and the catalog to the new PC. When you have the catalog and files on the external place them all in one folder to make it easier to move.
100% agree! Export as Catalog. I just did those from Mac to PC and it worked with flawlessly. The only suggestion that I would add would be to divide your catalog into smaller subsections. I had a few thousand images and at times it looked like it was hung. It was difficult to determine if LR was actually doing something. I suspect it would be easier to tell if the catalog it was importing was smaller. -
Help with importing music from your old computer that is on cd rw's
When you import music from your old computer that is on cd rw's how do get all the song info back?
For example when you plug your ipod in (after you've imported the music) that already has on the songs on it and the titles will it just automatically update it? I have soooo many songs and I'm really not looking forward to having to fill in all the information now myself.Music was exported from my old computer from itunes on to blank cd's. Now I'm in the process of importing the cd's into the itunes library. The songs do not come with titles. They just say track 1, track 2, for example. From my understanding itunes can only pull up the cd info for the actual cd that you buy in the store. I would really appreciate anyone's help.BridgeD12 wrote:
I'm not sure. I burned the songs on a cd-r through itunes. What do you think?
Sadly, this is not a good way to prepare for transfering your library. If your music still exists on your iPod then the easiest thing is probably to look at this post from Zevoneer which gives details of various methods for pulling data back from the iPod.

please help. i just got a new computer, how do i transfer my music from my old computer to my new computer.

If you only copy your Files you will lose your favorites. The best Way to copy your Library to the New Computer is to Export your libery (you can find the Export in the menue). This will copy your Wohle Library on cd. If you Out in These cd's in your new Computer iTunes will copy it with all informations.
While that may work, it is extremely time consuming and unnecessary.
Copying the ENTIRE iTunes folder from the old computer to the new computer will keep the library intact. -
I am losing a hard drive on an old computer so I performed a sync of all music from the old computer to my ipod nano. Now when I sync my ipod nano to my new computer/Itunes all music will not upload to new computer/software. What am I doing wrong?
I’ve never needed to do that and am fairly new to using itunes but try doing this. Go to, “Store,” in the itunes menu and select, “Authorize this computer.” Enter apple id and see if that works. I heard that method is used to transfer purchased media to a new computer but I don’t know if it works for regular stored media. Please let me know if that works.

I am trying to import songs to my new macbook pro from my old computer using home sharing. Both computers say that home sharing is now on but neither show up in each other's library menu. I am logged on with the same apple id for both computers. and both are on a stable wireless connection
Logging into itunes store on each machine wth different Apple IDs is OK Autorising each others machines with the other Apple ID is OK. This is completley separate from Home Sharing
For Home Sharing to work you need to
File > Home Sharing > Create Home Share.
You need to select one of the two Apple IDs you are using and ENTER THIS ON BOTH MACHINES WHEN CREATING THE HOME SHARE.
Home sharing will then work -
I was hoping i could just sign in on my new one and get all the songs to it with out redownloading them.
It is a reasonable question - we increasingly see the ability to access "my data" through the cloud rather than relying on local storage. In the case of iTunes:
You can, in most cases, access and re-download previous iTunes Store purchases
If you subscribe to iTunes Match, your complete library - within the 25,000 song limit imposed by the service - will be available to you,
That being said, the most complete and reliable method is still to copy your complete library (database, media, artwork, ...) from the older computer to the new one. If you've configured iTunes so that all your music, etc., is stored within the iTunes Media folders then you can just copy the C:\Users\username\Music\iTunes folder and all its contents from the old computer to the corresponding location on the new one. Depending on the size of your library you can copy it across a network, using a thumb drive or an external (USB) hard drive.
If you have media stored elsewhere on the old computer the process is a little more complex. -
I just purchased a new computer and downloaded I tunes but when I go to sync my iphone and ipad touch my library from my old computer doesn't show up on the new one. Only the purchased itune songs come up. How do I get my original itunes library?
Have you copied your content over from your old computer and onto the new on ? If not, and you still have your old computer, then there a number of methods described on this page which you can use to copy your library over : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4527 . If you no longer have your old computer then have you got a backup of your content that you can copy onto the new computer and add into iTunes ?

Transferred certain files to my new Mac from my old computer via memory stick. Can open PDF files but not xlr,aww or wps ones. The important ones are in xlr format. Is there a solution please?
My guess is they don't care. Most likely they're illiterate and don't know what a colon is for. They probably think it's a little-used character. Remember: these are the people who don't know the difference between "deprecate" and "depreciate".
I have the same colon problem as you do. But it's not the biggest problem I have encountered in Lion. If it was only that I'd be Mr. Delighted with Lion. There's worse than having a colon - uh - that won't cooperate. A lot worse, in Lion. -
How do I transfer my iTunes library from my old computer to my MacBook Pro?
How do I transfer my iTunes library from my old computer to my MacBook Pro?
Just copy the entire Music folder from the old Mac to the new Mac, then click on the folder and Get Info and change the permisisons and click the spoke to "apply to enclosed items"
Ideally it's best to use the same user name on the new machine, this way all your iTunes playlists work and there is no need to change permissions.
You can create the same named user by creating another account in System Preferences >accounts
If the old computer is a PC then just copy the old Music folder to the Mac onto the desktop, then use iTunes to import the music files.
If the old comptuer is dead, then you can extract the hard drive(if it's still working) and use a IDE/SATA to USB adapter cable to access the internal drive.
Mac's should be able to read NTFS format of PC's, just not write to it. But if it's not working there is software to install to allow the Mac to read that NTFS drive format, just search online. -
How do i get my itunes from my old computer to my new computer so that I can sync my iphone
1. I had my iphone 4 synced with my old computer.
I have a new computer and want my iphone to sync with this computer.
I am not interested in any music syncing
I do not want to overwrite anything on my iphone
I want the information eg apps that appear when I sync on my old computer to work exactly the same on the new computer.
I do not want a new library.
2. I have tried to backup my phone on my old computer and i receive the message."iTunes could not back up the iPhone "Bronwyn's iphone" because the backup could not be saved on the computer."
To try to resolve this I have removed most photos, I am unable to remove one
I have transferred all audio recordings
I have over 200gb of space on the computer.
3. At one time I received the following messge The information on the iPhone 'Bronwyn's iPhone is synced with another user account. Do you want to sync this iPhone with the information from this user account instead?
Merge info - merges the information on this iPhone with the information from this user account.
"Replace Info" replaced theinformation on this iPhone with the information from this user account.
Then the clickable choices .
This box has not reappeared.
3. I am absolutely fed up trying to find a solution.
This should not be this difficult.
I welcome any and all help
but I do ask please provide simply easy to follow steps.
May thanks
BronwynYou should copy everything from your old computer, or your backup copy of your old computer, to your new one.

I bought an ipod2 yesterday and all the photos were from an old computer (that I don't want to synch with) were transferred in the store without synching with it. I was told I could delete any I didn't want later but now find I can't delete any without synching through itunes which I don't want to do as I want to synch with a different computer. Is there a way I can just delete them all before I go and buy any apps etc or just restore to the shop settings and start again with a more selective upload as I now have over 8000 photos clogging up the memory when I only need about 1000.
Would really appreciate some adviceOnly photos taken with the iPad, copied onto it via the camera connection kit, or saved from emails/websites etc can be deleted directly on the iPad - either via the trashcan icon in the top right corner if viewing the photo in full screen, or via the icon of the box with the arrow coming out of it in thumbnail view.
Photos that were synced from a computer are deleted by moving/removing/de-selecting them from where they were synced from and then re-syncing. If you want to remove them all then normally you could just sync an empty folder (in terms of photos) to the iPad, but as you don't want to sync at the moment you can't do that.
You can reset the iPad back to factory settings and start from scratch with it : Settings > General > Reset > Erase All Content And Settings
