Exporting movie 2nd time has resulted in poor quality picture...

Hi,
I edited my holiday video in iMovie HD and exported as "Quicktime-Full Quality" and it made a large DV file which looks great.
i tinkered around with project in iMovie as needed to add/remove a few things and exported again on same setting as above, but it now looks pixellated and nowhere near as sharp as the first copy.
Any tips on whats gone wrong? the only other thing i did in between these steps is also export it to iDVD for later burning, if that helps.
Thanks.

Hi
YES - the only thing You did was using Share/Export to iDVD.
That's the problem. This is destructive ! ! !
iMovie rendering in this process gives a lousy result BUT ALSO HARMS THE ORIGINAL.
Medicine (but a bitter one).
• Re-import the photos to Your movie project (the old ones are damaged)
• Re-edit them to their propper places and duration
• NOW - When done. CLOSE iMovie
• Open iDVD and import Your movie project. Now iDVD will do the rendering and so much better.

  • Export mov WITHOUT time code through compressor

I am trying to send a file from the FCP timeline to compressor. Easy enough. But I want the exported mov to leave compressor with no timecode attached.
Is there a way to tell compressor NOT to include time code on the export?

The only way I know to delete the TC track is using QT Pro.
I don't recall that any of the last 3 versions offered the capability; perhaps it was there and I was unaware of it.
FCP can start TC at some other value. If it is possible in Compressor, I haven't heard of it.
    Good luck.

Recent update from apple has spoilt sound quality. Any one else have same problem

I had poor music sound quality, ect, after installing Update 7.1.1. Issue was resolved by holding down Homebutton and power on/off button simultaneously until Apple logo appeared. Sound quality now perfect from my mini iPad .

  • Exporting JPEG = loosing Noise reduction and sharpening, poor quality compare to RAW

    Hi guys,
I bought LR 5.0 not even a month ago and I was so excited to use it.
Now that I am done working on my projects I exported them as JPEG into my hard drive. This is a disaster. My pictures are amazing in my lightroom as RAW now you should see what they look like in JPEG. I can't believe it. I obviously did something wrong but I can't figure what it is. My JPEG pictures looks extremely grainy. I did shoot at a High ISO for most of them. It is probably the real problem here but there's certainly a way to make it work in JPEG since it looks good in RAW. Please tell me what to do from there. How can I keep the same quality in JPEG than I already have in RAW? I choose JPEG - quality 80% or 100% (tried both) - sRGB. Should I resize the image too?

Are you applying export sharpening, which would exacerbate any remaining noise-grain?  Are you judging the sharpening and noise-reduction at 100% 1:1 zoom?  You have to, otherwise, the resampling-for-display algorithms in LR and your OS viewer might be doing something completely different.

  • Raw image manipulation results in poor quality print.

    Hello,
Been a PS user for a number of years, but very new to the mac platform. Regardless, I shot some beach photos in RAW format of my 6 year old. Brought them into PS and made adjustments to what I thought was a nice image. Uploaded the image to my local walmart photo center just to test out my work. The image is DARK and ugly. She looks almost dirty.
Im curious as to know what I did to screw this up? I would appreciate someone looking at it for me and let me know what it looks like to you.
The image can be seen here:
    http://i464.photobucket.com/albums/rr8/chaznsc/print_DSC08047.jpg
    chaz

The image looks fine to me, but then I'm using a color-managed web browser (Firefox 3.6.8).
    Image file CONVERTED to sRGB
Because it is in the Adobe RGB color space (fortunately you embedded the color profile in the image file) the image will look like cr@p in any non-color managed browser.
My guess is the idiots at WalMart assigned an sRGB profile to it instead of CONVERTING it to sRGB.  Most run-of-the-mill processing labs expect to receive only sRGB files.
If that's what they in fact did, your image would look something like this when printed:
    Image after assigning sRGB profile
Next time, CONVERT your files to sRGB before sending them to clueless, albeit hard-working, minimum-wage store employees.

  • Poor quality picture with Netflix

Is anybody else experiencing this? I've seen bad picture quality for 6-8 weeks now, I think since the last update. Hulu and other streaming apps seem to be unaffected.

I've tried that several times. Also called my ISP and had them reset the router. Also reset my ATV and set it up again. Also, restored my router and set IT up again. Kind of out of ideas at this point.

  • Poor quality pictures

I have downloaded Jpeg pictures to my Ipod Touch, they are of perfect quality om my PC but on the Ipod Touch, they are discolored and seem to be layered with other pictures, can anyone help?

Try shutting the iPod off and restarting it. Not just putting it to sleep, but actually powering it down and then restart. Whenever I have something weird, that seems to fix a lot of things.

  • Poor quality of all exported media

Just started using a brand new Edit PC with PP CS4 and Matrox RTX.2    Imported AVI is very good quality and sharp when viewed on the timeline and on the output monitor, however, when I export any clips, the quality of the video appears flat and lifeless, as if the contrast has been reduced and the brightness increased.  The exported files are played on Windows media player on both this machine and several others - the result is the same.
I want to export to windows media and have used 'PAL widescreen source - high quality download' preset and windows media 9 (and several others) but the result is the same whatever I use and however I tweak the settings.  Also, if export using Microsoft AVI instead, or mpeg1 or mpeg 2, the result is always the same when I play the exported clip in windows media player.
I could convert the avi file through an external encoder to wmv, but a) I want to export direct from the timeline and b) the exported avi file has the same poor quality and c) that would be defeating the object of having CS4.
System is Vista, 4gb ram, 2 x quad core Xeon processors, ATI Radeon card, MAtrox RTX.2 v4.00x/  Prem pro CS4
Any ideas?  would the update to Matrox 4.01 help? What am I missing?  My old prem pro 1.5 exported crisp quality video every time.
    Many thanks

I've been having similar issues with mpeg2 encodes in CS4, working in ntsc standard definition -- also on a hot new machine with the RTX2, Vista 64, 12 gigs ram, etc. In my tests I can get a sharper encode either using PP 1.5 on an older machine, or using a freebie stand-alone encoding program called WinFF.
In my case, I've actually been able to get sharp encodes in the matrox avi format --  those turn out fine for me. But once it goes to the AME for mpeg encoding, then it gets fuzzy. I've tried the 1 pixel offset, but that hasn't really made much of a difference.
The thing I like about the matrox card is that it gives me video output to an external monitor from the timeline as well as the source window within Premier CS4 ... and I assume it probably speeds up some of the rendering. I just don't feel like I'm getting a really good quality image when I'm using the windows media player or other players on my computer monitors. So I really rely on my external CRT monitor to judge sharpness, density and colors, as well as titles.
What are you doing for output monitoring, now that you've pulled out the RTX2 card? I've been wondering what other options there might be that would work well with CS4.
You might check out WinFF -- it seems very fast and so far it's been working well for me. I'm not in PAL. so that might make a difference ...
On the brightness issue, it might be worth checking to see whether you have the latest video display card drivers -- another user found that made a big difference in image quality. However, I don't think in his case that it was related to his mpeg encodes.

  • Poor quality of imported photos. Less colours/colors ? [Examples]

    Hi,
    I'm making project in iMovie'09
I'm mixing movies with photos in my project.
But in my iMovie project - pictures are poor quality.
iMovie probably use less colors what you can see on dark parts of photos and movies.
I read somewhere that it can be only in iMovie preview - when iMovie use worse quality movies for
faster running. So I exported my movie to different formats to check how it will look like.
I exported it to BIG, "HD" formats, and also using QuickTime with H.263 compression and without compression at all ( 20 seconds file takes over 800 MB !!!), but the result was almost the same.
Here you can see some examples:
    http://pokazywarka.pl/imovie-quality/
The same problem is according to movies - you can see similar bad quality on darker parts of imported movies... Movies in original looks fine.
Any idea how to solve this problem and improve quality of pictures?
    Best regards,
    Patrick

I too am having a problem. Mine's not even a picture with huge quality or something, just a an SD video in 16:9. The input format is Apple MPEG-2 SD Camcorder Video, 704 x 480 (834 x 480), Millions. I've exported to dozens of options with a share to media browser, iTunes, export movie, Quick time, etc. and every time I get color bands that aren't in the original. I thought I'd maybe fix the problem by using the "optimize video" feature which converts the file to Apple Intermediate Codec, 704 x 480 (834 x 480), Millions. Still, this video (when selecting reveal in finder) looks great, no banding. Again I export, even export to 16:9 DV (no compression right?) and the banding appears. Everything looks good until I get to that export stage. I don't expect perfection, but if iMovie can handle HD movies I would expect SD to come out looking basically like it went in. Please help.

  • Export via Quick Time ends up being pixelated and poor quality

I shoot my student film on an Arri S camera with 16mm color stock. I got my film back to me from the school on a DV tape and imported it into FCP HD on my camcorder. When I went to export it onto a DVD for my actors, the film looks horrible! The blacks are really pixelated and the colors aren't as crisp as they were on film. I was told that it should look the same because we made the movie on better equipment and FCP won't lessen that, but at the same time FCP can't make poor quality work any better. Can someone tell me how to export my film without losing the 16mm quality. I don't want it to look digital, I spent a lot to get the real film stock. Thanks!

1- The film is 6 minutes long
2- I don't know where to find out about the bit rates
3- The audio is simple, just 48 khz stereo.
When using DV format, what's the difference in DV, DVPRO, etc.?
The movie was filmed 24 fps, but then put onto a dv tape for me, so I assume they transferred it at 29.97 fps. Should I now use NTSC or stick to PAL? Basically, anymore compression makes the film look really bad and unusable for festivals, which ultimately was the whole purpose of my blood, sweat, and tears behind this film.
Thanks for all your help and any more questions you need answered to solve this problem I'd be more than happy to answer.

  • 2nd time in a month, my MBP has crashed

Over Thanksgiving my then 3 month old 15' MBP was faced with a blue screen soon after installing Leopard. I took it to an Apple Store the next week and after 6 hours in the store, they fixed it. They had never seen the problem before and actually found a coding error from the factory that was hidden while running Tiger but that made itself present when I ran Leopard, they rewrote code and fixed it. Some data was lost, but nothing crucial.
Tonight (12/28), I was watching a movie in Front Row (my computer constantly freezes in Front Row) and I paused it to get a drink. I came back, tried to unpause it and it froze. I shut my computer off and rebooted, and this same blue screen has returned and I am not able to get to the login screen, in regular nor safe mode. This will be the 2nd time in a month this has happened. I'm taking it to the Apple Store tomorrow but am not looking forward to possibly spending another 6 hours in the store. At what point will Apple simply replace such a new, and seemingly defective computer.

Who knows what other junk is left over from your Tiger installation?
I think you'll have to prove a hardware issue before counting on Apple to replace your Mac, and even then, they will just repair the defects with new parts.
You could probably save yourself a few hours if you can reinstall your OS from Time Machine. If Front Row continues to crash you have some other software issues to check. That's where I'd point the Apple Store.

  • Problems after downloading the lastest version of iTunes for my iPod Touch. Now whenever I switch on my laptop and access the internet I get an error message. 2nd time this has happened and I'm fed up trying to fix it. Anybody having similar problems?

I've downloaded iTunes 10.5 onto my iPod Touch, no problems but I've now got a constant error message on my laptop everytime I switch it on and access the internet. The message is "The procedure entry point xmlTextReaderConstName could not be located in the dynamic link library libxml2.dll"
This is the 2nd time this has happened. Last time iTunes Support called and we ran through a load of checks to no avail. The only option was to delete iTunes completely off my laptop and go for a new download of it. Can anybody tell me how to do it - didn't write it down last time, silly me, never thought it would happen again. Also sent an email to iTunes Support - waiting for a response.

  • Extreme poor quality in full screen preview and exported movie

I have spend evenings and evenings to create the content of a project.
After dealing with error -108 and extreme poor quality in full screen preview and in exported movies (extreme stuttering) I decided to install my iMac new again.
The error -108 disappeared, but the extreme stuttering still remained in full screen preview and in exported movies.
If I make the preview screen in the iMovie browser as big as possible there is nothing to see of any stuttering.
Now I am getting pretty annoyed and have no clue what to do anymore (how to solve this problem) .....
    Anyone any suggestion ?
The orginal video was recorded with a Panasonic HD camcorder.
I do have a mid 2011 iMac with 16GB ram and 256GB SSD and 1TB HD with a complete clean installation
of OS X Lion and iLife. This configuration should be enough to create a proper movie :-(

Potentially, yes. The standard Preview is 1024 pixels, longest size. Some people (like Omke) have displays 2560 pixels longest side, potentially increasing file size by over 500%.
