Exporting movie for iTunes - need 8 channels of audio

I'm putting a feature film I edited in FCP X on iTunes for sale/rent. The specs Apple requires are:
Single QT movie with audio
ProRes 422 (HQ) codec
LPCM audio
16 or 24 bit
48Khz
Ch.1 Left (Front)
Ch.2 Right (Front)
Ch.3 Center
Ch.4 LFE
Ch.5 Left Surround
Ch.6 Right Surround
Ch.7 & 8 Left Total / Right Total (Stereo Pair)
I looked at the Master File Share preset in FCP X and it only allows 5.1 sound.
So I went into Compressor and looked under the audio options and there is an "SMPTE DTV (L R C LFE Ls Rs Lt Rt)" preset in the pop-up menu. I set up the video with ProRes 422 (HQ) and the Audio with the SMPTE DTV preset, rendered out a range from FCP X and the resulting QT file has no audio. When I render the same range out with another Share preset, I get the audio.
Does anyone have any experience with FCP X and iTunes?
Thanks!
Scot

Hi Scott,
it looks that you might be able to help me one again. I need to create an XDCAM HD422 mov with 8 audio tracks:
1 Front Left
2 Front Right
3 Centre
4 LFE
5 Surround left
6 Surround right
7 stereo down mix left
8 stereo down mix right
I have eight mono wav files with all channels above but I am not sure how to create the correct file. In the project properties I can only select 51.1 or stereo. What do I need to do to add the stereo stems and create an XDCAM HD422 mov with 8 audio tracks?
Best regards,
Woz

  • Converting XviD movies for iTunes

I have quite a few XviD music videos that I would like to import into iTunes that I can watch with Apple TV. I purchased QuickTime Pro yesterday and I exported a couple of videos, one to QuickTime Movie (.mov) and one for Apple TV (.m4v) to see what the difference is.
    A 50MB 4 minute XviD clip exported to a 140MB Quicktime movie.
A 44MB 4 minute XviD clip exported to a 74MB Apple TV movie.
    My questions are:
Is the quality of the .mov better than the .m4v?
Is there any other benefit (for iTunes or Apple TV) of one over the other.
I would like to group these into iTunes with some organization, but currently they both show up in the Movies section. Is there a good way to organize movies by artists?
    Thanks for your help!

You need to do get info while playing each movie ckip and report the bitrates not this info, which we kind of knew - reason: the H.264 could be 5 mb/sec for one and 1 mb/sec for the other, to be clearer. You can report what the AVI is , bitrate wise as well.
Though I think Big Endian is uncompressed audio and may take up a lot of room. The AAC is much more compressed audio.
Use MPEG Streamclip, export to MPEG-4 and pick the variouos iPod/Apple TV presets and make your life a LOT easier and it is free. Does batches of files too. I don't ever use QT itself, as MPEG Streamclip uses it as the engine.
iTunes won't have a problem, if the bitrates exceed the iPod limits they won't play on an iPod. I am pretty sure the Big Endian audio won't at all.
You can change a MOV file to a music video in iTunes merely by changing the setting under Video when you do get info on it.

  • What's the best settings to Export movie for smaller file sizes?

Hi, I've been working on some helmet cam footage which was taken with Xvidmpeg4.avi and was advised to convert it to dvavi for editing in PrE, this created a huge file to work with, the original footage was 206mb and the finished edited dvavi file is now 1.56gb, what settings can I use to export the movie with a much smaller file size, but hopefully try to retain some quality, to upload to places like Vimeo? I thought I would try to export it in the same as the original footage Xvidmpeg4.avi thinking this might compress it again to something like the 206mb of the original and the original was good quality footage, but PrE just hangs up with a box stating 'Xvid Status (Not Responding)' and when I try to cancel that the whole thing crashes and closes? So when I go to File > Export > Movie, what would be the best settings in:
    General > File Type ?
    Video > Compressor
lots of options under compressor if I select the file type as Microsoft AVI, so I'm guessing something under that would compress it to a smaller file size but what, I could spend all night trying different settings so hoping for some advice?
Or, if I'm completely in the wrong place for the settings and should be doing something else please tell me?
    Thanks, Gav

Thanks for the replies, but to me it's still confusing - simply because there are so many settings, if I go to Share/Personal Computer I'm then presented with a whole load of settings
    NTSC Flash Video
    MPEG
    DVAVI
    Windows Media
    QuickTime
and under each of those is a lot more advanced settings?
I'm guessing I wouldn't use flash or quicktime, so which of the others would I use and what are the advanced settings to use as I can't find anything that is .wmv or .mov
What I've done with other videos that I've exported from PrE as dvavi is then to put it through Windows Movie Maker, Publish Movie, This Computer, then put the settings to Windows Media DVD Quality (PAL) (3.0 Mps) - this seemed to be the only setting that reduced the file size considerably but still had good quality, but it's still about twice the original file size?
This all seems long winded to me, open original file, convert original file, output another file, then output the file again in something else which then results in loss of quality and a larger file than the original? I'm ending up with lots of files, was hoping just to edit in Premiere then export/publish that edited clip and that would be it, then upload to the net.
Is it not possible to just edit my original footage and save it, just like you would with something like a word document, should I be using something else and not Premiere?
    Thanks.

  • What is the Home Videos tab within Movies for iTunes 11.0.1

What is the Home Videos tab within the Movies list for iTunes 11.0.1?
I can't find anything about it.

There is a simple solution to error code 3072 when installing upgrades.
Ensure all other users are logged out.
This fixes the problem. From my experience so far you do not have to reboot your mac.

  • I need 4 channels of audio in MXF OP 1a

I am using Premiere CS6.  I am exporting to MXF OP 1A, ticking the 4 channels of audio.  However channels 3 & 4 come out empty.
The broadcastying station needs them full.
I read somewhere else in the forum that you have to enable the master track??? But can't seem to do this.
    Can anyone help?

Not sure if your problem has been solved , but Jim seemed have already posted the correct answer. But I still want to post my idea here. I also have some mxf files with multi-track audios. Because I shot them with an external mic. I am nor sure if adobe can keep them well , so I use other app called imixmxf to convert them seperately , then load them into adobe. My camera is Canon , and I plan to go to Sony for my next camera.

  • Exporting movie for the web

I have a one minute, forty second trailer for my movie that I want to put on our website. I need to export the trailer from my Final Cut Pro timeline and give it to my web guy in a form that can be used for viewers with Windows Media Player. Any ideas on what the best way is to do this? Thanks!

Analog out from DVD player to your DV device (camcorder, VTR or converter) then Firewire from the DV device to your Mac. In FCP, set device contol to "Non-Controllable Device" and use Capture Now.<<</div>
Sorry ... posted to the wrong question!
To answer your question, if you want to do it on a Mac, you'll need to make the purchase. But if you have a Windows system, you can download the free Windows Media Encoder from Microsoft. Lay the movie off to tape then connect your camcorder or VTR to your Windows system and you can encode in RT for free!

  • Chaptered movie for iTune?

I know how to mark the clip with Chapters and then send the project to iDVD.
What I don't know is to export the Chaptered movie so that I can play on my iPod.
When I export to .mp4 format, the iPod does not seem to know where the chapter marks are. Is mp4 the wrong format for Chaptered movie?
    any info will be helpful.
    TIA

Problem solved. My Apple TV was set to the US iTunes Store and I'm in Canada. Once I corrected that, the movies and prices changed to what I was seeing on iTunes on my computer.

  • Multi users on one computer for itunes, need two libraries

still trying to get an answer to this, cant seem to find a way of having two separate libraties for me and my girlfriend. we obviously have different tastes and need to use the same computer and therefore the same itunes and music library, surely there must be a way of being able to have different music on our individual ipods, has anyone got any knowledge of this?

    Hi there.
I had exactly the same issue with my music and my wife's.
What we did was created 2 playlists - one for me and one for my wife.
What you do then is make sure that when you plug each ipod in, you only update the playlists you have created.
i.e my playlist is called Dave's music. Plus in ipod, and have itunes only update Dave's music (and any other playlists/podcasts etc)
Your ipod will then only ever have the music you want on it, even if your library is heaving with music you don't want. (in my case huge swathes of Britney Spears)
    This should work for you.

  • Exporting movie for use on Powerpoint - Windows

Does anybody know what settings I should use if I want to use a movie footage on Windows Powerpoint (it is for a friends presentation tomorrow). It is a 8min film. Tried Mpeg 4 - After 30mins it was estimating 500 mins!!! Would another (quicker) encoding format work? Thanks

    Hi Gwyn,
to my knowledge you HAVE to choose the avi container in the QT expert settings... ppt is a bit sensitive with "alien" imports.......
additionally, I would ask your friend, what size/resolution is needed... that makes the files smaller..., don't choose a too high framerate, probably 15fps is enough... ppt needs all resources of the PC, no air left for a smooth video...
500min for a mpeg4 is way too long... you're sure, you didn't incidently choose h264...? that needs indeed DAYS for encoding... , and doesn't work on most PCs......

  • Movies for Itunes?

Does anyone know when the canadian store is going to get movies and tv shows. It's really frustrating when I get all the emails about whats new in the US store but I can't access it. Also there is One album in itunes that i keep trying to buy, but it will not download. Only this album for some reason isn't downloadiing, but itunes has charged me for it. there is always an error message that says itunes store is temporarily unavailable when i check for purchases.

Rather than answer a question that is posted numerous times per week, I'm going to refer you to this thread. Also, when you post make sure that you post in the correct forum, you have posted in the Windows forum

  • Airport Express for iTunes needs rebooting to be detected all the time

It seems that each time I reboot my macBook, my airport express needs to rebooted to be detected. I use it for streaming music only- not for internet access- and have it configured accordingly. It is connected to remote speakers and works perfectly when it has been rebooted but if I leave it on and have shut down the macBook the green light stays on but the newly rebooted computer doesn't detect the unit until I unplug it and reconnect. Anybody have any helpful info? Thanks in advance...

Is this message box indicating the Airport Express is re-connecting to your internet service and if so, is this Airport Express connected to a DSL internet service that uses the PPPoE protocol to connect? If so, run the Airport Admin Utility, select your Express, click on the Configure button, click on the Internet tab, and check the box to "always stay connected". Update settings to the Airport Express.

  • Export Settings for iTunes

What export settings (AIFF, AU, etc) should I use to export the sound track of a music video in Mpeg4 so that it can be copied into iTunes and played via the wireless interface (Airport Express) ? Presently importing(copying an Mpeg4 into iTunes the sound will only play out over the local (computer) speakers. Quick Time will export the sound into an AIFF file and iTunes will read it, but is this the best method ?
    Dennis

Export the soundtrack from Quick Time to an AIFF format file then import to iTunes. You can stop there or convert to MP3 or AAC within iTunes to reduce file size.
