Exporting movies to iPod format

I've got an iPod video. I've got some files that are videos and using QuickTime Pro to export to iPod format. The problem that I have is that for a 12 minute video, it took more than 12 hours to get to only 39% completed. This is slow by any standards and virtually unusable. I've running QuickTime pro 7.0.3 on a Windows XP 3 GHz 512 Mb RAM.
Can anyone help me? Are there any settings that are not right? Or is this normal?
Many thanks,

I have had the same 8% problem and when I tried contacting customer support, they first redirected me 3 times, then told me they couldn't help me do anything but install and run the demo movie. I am completely upset with apple on this purchase and it seems nobody has a solution to this problem. The worst part is the fact apple suggests "pro" to convert your files and there is no demo or warning how bad this product is for this. Another program in addition to Videora that works way better is PQ DVD to Ipod Converter. I downloaded the demo and the demo is far easier and more convenient than quicktime. It only costs $5 more than pro too.

  • Converting Movie to Ipod format thru Quicktime Pro

I purchase the QuicktimePro Registration key for Windows(XP), to convert movies(mp4) format to Ipod(30gb).
QuicktimePro DOES NOT convert mpeg-4 to Ipod format, m4v or mov? I know Quicktime pro is only a few dollars, but I spent for something that I did not enjoy. A very useless feature.
Please correct me if I'm wrong. thank you.

Hello Sujay, are you a Quicktime Tech support? sorry it was too late when I found out that I posted my issue in the wrong Forum, this is my first time, I apologize.
Sorry too, that I did not explain in full detail. Yes, I followed the xact instruction in the manual, followed one of the QT-Tech Support, he even gave me a supporting/reading materials related to my inquiry, I have 2 co-workers behind my shoulders who tried to help but no luck.
My OS is XP, Quicktime plays all my movies(mp4)format without a problem, but when it comes to exporting, (Movie to iPod 320X240)the exported movie is successful but still in mp4 format, instead of m4v I believe.
Did you have a successful conversion? Can you tell me where my missing piece is, please? Thank you with your full attention.

  • Settings that equal 'export movie to ipod (320 240)'

what settings can be used in the mpeg-4 export settings(h.264) and movie to Quicktime movie (h.264) that will duplicate those preset in the Movie to ipod (320x240).?
I believe the only way to make h.264 files for the ipod is be using the export movie to ipod settings.
    am I right?
The movie to ipod export setting works for me, but when i use the movie to mpeg4 - h264 - to convert the file I can not load the movie on to the ipod.
(the apple spec say h264 baseline up to 1.3 768kbs etc)
But when those settings are used, i.e.
    mpeg-4 export settings:
    H.264/ 650 / download
    custom / 320 180
    29.97
    automatic
restrict profile to baseline/ best quality.
will produce A file at 600kbs for me.
this file can not be transferred to ipod. (even though it matchs the ipod tech spec's)

The "specs" for video iPod formats:
H.264 video: up to 768 Kbps, 320 x 240, 30 frames per sec., Baseline Profile up to Level 1.3 with AAC-LC up to 160 Kbps, 48 Khz, stereo audio in .m4v, .mp4 and .mov file formats.
MPEG-4 video: up to 2.5 mbps, 480 x 480, 30 frames per sec., Simple Profile with AAC-LC up to 160 Kbps, 48 Khz, stereo audio in .m4v, .mp4 and .mov file formats.
You can also export video (supported formats only) directly from the iTunes app.
    No need for QuickTime Pro.

  • What is the best setting for export movie in widescreen format?

Please tell me what is the best setting for exporting movie in Widescreen format?

Like in After effect we use "NTSC D1 Widescreen Square Pixel".,
Carefully examine the codec and pixel dimensions of that output file. That's certainly easy for an experienced VFX person like yourself.
Then carefully look over the presets in FCP to find the same attibutes. You can also use the online help system for FCP and search for "D1"
However, your question remains unanswerable because we don't know how you're getting to the monitor. What are you playing back you AE sequences on that displays them on your LCD? You're assuming we know what you're doing and, I assure you, we do not.

  • Convert existing QuickTime movies to iPod format

Is there a way to convert an existing QuickTime movie (480 x 360) into an iPod compatible format (320 X 240)? Can I use QuickTime Pro to do this?
    Thanks

Is there a way to convert an existing QuickTime movie (480 x 360) into an iPod compatible format (320 X 240)? Can I use QuickTime Pro to do this?
Yes and yes. However, be advised that there are potential problems in different work flows.
If this is a 4:3 aspect ratio 480 x 360 H.264/AAC source file, then simply use the QT Pro "Show Movie Properties" option to set the video display to 320 x 240 (or set width to 320 while "Preserve Aspect Ratio" option is set) and then export the file using the "Movie to iPod" option. This will create an H.264/AAC stereo 320 x 240 file with an average combined data rate in the 800-850 kbps range. On the other hand, if the source file is an MPEG-4/AAC with an aspect ratio other than 4:3, then you must manually set the width to 320 and the height to the correct aspect ratio with the "Preserve Aspect Ratio" option turned off. (Seems that the new LC profile does not take the 480 iPod MPEG-4 "special case" display capability into account during conversions.)
If the LC profile is not required, simply use the QT Pro "Movie to MPEG-4" export option and set the target display as required for rendering at the correct aspect ratio for the iPod in the baseline profile. This work flow is preferred where limited data rates, mono audio, or other custom settings are desired.

  • Cannot export videos into iPod format?????

I have Quicktime Pro, and recently exported some 15 video or so into iPod format, then imported them into iTunes for storage on my 60 GB iPod 5G. Imagine my surprise to find the error message that some of the videos, including all but three of the ones I exported, cannot be played on my iPod. I even tried using iTunes to re-export the videos in iPod format, to no avail.
What's the deal? I thought the "export to iPod" option in Quicktime Pro 7.1.2 and the "convert selection to iPod" function in iTunes was so that I could vide my videos on this iPod. Why is this no longer working?????

There are some files (such as MPEG-1 and those with muxed audio) that Quicktime has trouble converting. I use iSquint for converting videos for my iPod, and it works great. It's faster than Quicktime, and it's also free!

  • How to export HD to iPod format from FCP?

I have a 1080i timeline and am trying export using the iPod export..but instead of scaling it down to 320x180 (16:9) it scales it to 320x240 (4:3) filling the whole screen. Is there a setting or something I am missing?
Is anyone exporting from FCP in HDV and exporting to iPod? Love to hear some ideas or sites for more info about this. Thanks
    Frank

Frank, when I began creating video podcasts Compressor wasn't able to create iPod-compatible H.264 videos (go figure?) so I looked elsewhere.
I came across ffmpegX and just love that program!
Now, I don't typically use it on HDV footage as my current podcast is all DVCAM, but I just gave it a shot with some HDV I shot a couple of months ago.
Worked like a charm. 2-pass VBR took 5 minutes for a 1 minute test clip. 320x180 16:9 apsect ratio. You can either export your timeline as a self-contained QT movie, or as a Ref. movie to save some space. Plus, ffmpregX can batch a bunch of files at once. I find that 500kbps for the video and 96kbps for the audio works pretty well and keeps the quality:file size ratio in good order. Play around with the settings and then create a preset.
    Good luck!

  • Quick Time 7 Pro's  export function for iPod format failed

The export function starts to format a video for the fixed iPod format. At 17% of the reformating job, the process stops?!
Does everyone knows a solution for that? Thanks in advance.

Exporting to the iPod settings takes a long time.
Try a test using a one minute "cut" from your file. Time the export and you'll have an idea how long the entire file will take to export.

  • Exporting videos to Ipod format qith QuickTime Pro

    Hey guys,
i just recently bought an Ipod Video, and i use Quicktime Pro to convert videos to ipod format for it. My problem is that the converted video (M4V) never has any audio. Wheather i try listening to is on my computer or on the ipod, no audio at all. Did anyone experience the same thingf? Does anyone know what i'm doing wrong, or how to fix it?
    thank you,
    -chris-

Open the original video in QT Player and check MovieInfo. If it says the video is a muxed mpeg then QT Player Pro will not convert the sound from such videos: QT Mpeg Limitations
Some Windows users have reported success with this freeware Windows program.

  • Take too much time to convert QT movie to iPod format

    Hi,
I got QuickTime Pro and was able to convert avi format home video to iPod (mpg4). But for a 30 minutes movie, it took more
than 8 hours to convert (From avi to mpg4) and QT consume 90%
CPU all the time. Is there something wrong with my settings?
    Please advice. Thanks a lot.

    Welcome to the discussions, qiup!
No, I doubt that you have anything set wrong. H.264 is VERY computationally intensive and will take awhile on even today's fastest computers. It's almost like MPEG2 was 7 years ago when it required a hardware addition if you really wanted a DVD done in less than a day
As time goes on, the algorithm will get better, there may even be some add in cards that make it faster, but for now, a faster machine yields faster results.

  • No sound when exporting movie to Ipod

I recently got myself an iPod video 30gb and i tried to export a couple music videos to my ipod. I follow the exact instructions on the web site http://www.apple.com/quicktime/tutorials/creatingvideo.html
But still when i get the video on my iPod i find that after the export there is no sound. Is there some way to fix this problem?
And one more question is it possible to export avi. files to your iPod?
    Thanx

You CAN use mpeg-1 if you first convert it to another format with a separate utility. One that will do the conversion is the freeware VirtualDub. Open the mpeg-1 in VirtualDub and then use Save as Avi in the File menu. The default format will be uncompressed avi, which QT will read and from which it will export both sound and video. Uncompressed avi files are very large so you may need to convert is in short segments.
If you have the correct decompressor to play an avi in Windows Media Player then you can use VirtualDub to change the audio to a QT friendly format. Open in VDub, change the Audio to Full Processor Mode and set audio Compression to IMA or uncompressed (PCM). Set Video to Direct Stream Copy. Then save a copy under a new name. The video will be copied through unchanged but the audio will be converted to a QT compatible format so you can then do the conversion in QT Pro.

  • How to export movie in same format/resolution/etc as original footage?

I recorded a bunch of clips in beautiful HD on my iPhone 4 today. I then edited them together in iMovie HD. To my surprise, when I exported the movie, the video was only 640x480.
I have a simple question. How do I export a movie with the same resolution as the video that went into it?

What kind of project did you create in iMovie?
What kind of export settings did you use?

  • Converting movies into ipod format

can some one help me my itunes keeps converting movies either audio but white screen or video but no audio..ughh i cant put any of my good movies on my nano just lame ones..help

    Hi There-
Thanks for the info. I am actually using the Squared5 mpeg decoder. I followed the directions for the fix, but it still gives my the mpeg-2 error. I have tried the freeware "Quicktime Alternative 181" from the apple website and with that, eitrher my itunes will work fully and the Squared5 will not, or if I un-install itunes, the Squared5 will work fully. It's like when one will, the other won't. I never had this problem before, did Apple change something that makes Squared-5 not compatible ???
I really do not want to sound cheap, times are tough for me and I am trying to do this fix as inexpensive as possible,
If I buy the 19.99 MPEG-2 playback component, I want to be sure that it is going to work, since you can't get refunds from Apple.
Since I am new to this, could you let me know what steps I need to do to do this in the right order????
Thanks for your time, I really do appriciate the time.
    Sincerely- Doug

  • Converting movies to ipod format

anyone know of a good program or way of going about this?

I am using WinXp and was successful converting uncopyprotected music video DVD's using Nero 7. The Recode program in the Nero Suite has settings that turn it into an iPod compatible file (MP4)and it plays on my 60gig video pod just fine. I'm going to go back and slice the video into individual songs though. It's a pain when you're 30 minutes into an hour long video and push the wrong button sending you all the way back to the beginning. Your mileage may vary...
anyone know of a good program or way of going about
    this?

  • Slideshow exported movie format

When I export a slideshow to movie and then try to burn the movie to DVD, Toast says 'Your data is in NTSC format - do you want to re-encode to PAL format?'
Why is my exported movie in NTSC format?
Can I export from iPhoto in PAL format?
I can't find the option in iPhoto.
    thanks

    Why don't i use iDVD ????
Well to me (the uneducated) at this moment that is like saying "if you want a piece of toast with your tea why don't you employ the Queens head chef and his army of cooks to make it for you."
All I want to do is burn my existing movie (which already has music) to a DVD.
When I open iDVD it reminds me of those menu options you hear when you call many companys nowadays. They offer you 5 million things you don't want and do not offer the one thing you do want. (same for most websites)
EG: "If you would like to take your grandmother to the moon on every second Tuesday in March - press 1..." etc etc
iDVD offers me 10 billion ways of embellishing my DVD with countless menus. photos, music and God knows what else.
But all I want to do is burn my movie to DVD, as it is - in the correct format. (PAL widescreen) !!!!!!
I have just looked through the iDVD help and I actually can't work out how to do that very simple thing ! (and it took me half an hour to read it all)
I cannot find any mention of 'aspect ratio' (I need 16x9 - widescreen)
I tried somehow burning one and it did work but it plays in 4x3 format.
So thats why I was using Toast.
    Does that answer your question?
    You have a nice name.
