Exporting multi-channel H264 file

We have been mastering projects using H264 for years and need to export a multichannel version (3 discreet stereo tracks for vox, music, and SFX). Can we do this with H264? I understand this is possible using Quicktime and have done this successfully, but as we all know, exporting Quicktime using H264 as your codec is not the same as using H264 (the quality difference is unacceptable). Are there any workarounds? I can only think to export the video (h264) and audio (Quicktime audio only) assets separately and send them as discrete files but was hoping they could somehow be combined.
Thanks for you input.

Also, I am not using a multi-channel output, only built-in output (stereo). Still, does not seem to work.
Another test -- opened file in Soundtrack Pro. I see the four channels, though they are grouped in some way that I cannot separate at present. I save the file as aiff, and this time Logic will open it, though it seems somehow corrupted, won't play.

  • Exporting Multi-Channel Split-track Stereo

    Hello,
    I am wanting to export multi-channel split-track.
I have 3 tracks in my sequence: 1 mono track for COMMS, 1 stereo track for FX and 1 stereo track for the soundtrack.
What is the best way to to export this so that I have 3 stereo pairs?
I could do this easily in FCP 7 but the fact that stereo tracks occupy just one track in PP complicates things a bit.
    Thanks

Ok so i order to help anyone who is interested.
The only ironic solution to this problem i found was to use a plugin called xto7 to convert the xml to the old fcp7 format.
i then imported this into premiere pro.
this was then able to export an OMF that when imported into logic 10 that was using the correct 6ch mono setting as separate tracks.
Insane but it works until Apple fixes the incorrect meta data import in FCPX that sets the xml export to the default import that is always surround.
this is the only way i was able to send stems with all the edit points and fades for the sound editor.
If you don't have premiere lying around you maybe able to do it with fcp7 too we just didn't have it in this studio.
Fingers crossed Apple fixes the fcpx xml export.

  • Edit Multi-channel wav files?

I'm working on an audio project where a roundtable discussion was recorded using multiple microphones split onto seven different audio channels in each wav file. Is there a way to bring these into a multi-track project in Soundtrack?
Right now, I drag a wav file into the project, but the entire file (with seven lines of audio on the green bar) opens up on Track 1. I want to take all of the channels and spread them evenly 1-7, that way I can rename them and know who is on which channel.
If anyone has any help, it'd be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

You could copy the file to seven different tracks, then right-click and select Channel select > Mono > channel #, choosing a different channel for each track.
    Hope that helps!

  • Multi-channel audio files

I use an R4Pro and normally use it in MonoX2 mode (boom mic through Y-splitter into recorder, with channels 1 and 2 set at slightly different gain levels to give me a safety track in case of clipping. But in cases where I am using more than two tracks (e.g. boom and three lavs or four lavs) the R4Pro limits you to no higher than 48kHz or MonoX4 (which kind of ***** — the major reason for having a decent recorder and doing dual system is to get a higher sampling rate than the camcorder can do). But the R4Pro can go to 96kHz in 4-channel audiofile mode. I can import these into the timeline with no sweat (Vegas wouldn't - but I'm long off of Vegas). But then what?
I can sync the entire file to the clap since they are all in perfect sync within the file, but how do I separate things back out to choose the best mic for the clip (or potentially even a mix I suppose). What is the best practice way to process the multichannel audio file after I get it into STP?

A lot of things have changed since 5.5.
You need to set up Preferences before importing.
Set Stereo to Mono in Audio / Default Audio Tracks.
Or Modify the audio channels of the clips in the Project Window.

  • Export Multi Channel in FCPX

I have a client that needs clips sent out after I've synced the sound.  I've found how to export the clips but I'd like to set a preset to have the Roles As Multitrack QuickTime file come up each time along with the three Dialogue/Stereo boxes.  As I see it I can make a preset the upper part of the example below but not the lower part (the "Roles As Multitrack QuickTime...")
Any idea if that is possible somehow.  Or if there are other suggestions on exporting clips with all track separate but synced I'm all ears.
    Thanks, Patrick.

There seem to be multple causes for these export issues…and unfortunately, that means one solution isn't in the cards. (Third party software (e,g., plug-ins) and codecs conflicts may be one of the factors.) I haven't been able to reproduce these issues on two different machines with two OS versions – which is lucky for me but also isn't very enlightening.
BTW, it's always a good idea to see whether the usual housekeeping of trashing preferences and repairing permissions gets things working.
And again, how long is your project?

  • Multi channel audio not exporting from fcpx xml as mono to logic always comes in a mixed surround

I have a long edit cut with 24 bit multi channel wav files (i.e 6 microphones on separate tracks but in a single wav file.)
This is very a very common production practice.
when i import into fcpx it defaults to seeing the files as surround. I change this to mono so i can mix and spit the audio between each mic.
The last step in the edit is to hand the mix off to the sound designer in logic.
however no matter how i export the xml file for logic. it always comes in as a surround file again instead of mixed mono files.
it shows up in logic as 6 tracks but all but generally only the top track has a mono mix of all 6 and the rest are blank.
it shows that all 6 are seen as 5.1 surround indicated by the icon.
interestingly if i just import the file directly into logic it comes in as 6 mono files. (the icon for mono showing and all are separate microphones)
Any ideas on how to get fcpx not to export the audio xml as surround? (it seems that it is locked to that on import no matter how i modify after)

  • Premiere Pro CS6 Crashes when exporting H264 files

I shot a video with Canon 5D Mark III (1080p) and edited a 4 minute video which I am trying to export as an H264 file. I used the preset for Vimeo 29.97, 1080. But every time the export stops half way and premiere Crashes. I tired 5,6 times and each time it workds for 2-3 hours before crashing. It actually succeeded once but the audio had some issues. After that I could not export again! Any suggesions?
I am using a Mac book Pro 15 inch, mid 2009, 8gb ram, running Mountain Lion and have the latest updates for Premiere installed.
    Thanks

Try deleting all previous instances and partially-exported versions of the file.  Then open a different Premiere Pro project (it doesn't matter which one; even a new project will do).  Go to Edit>Preferenes>Media and click on the Clean button.  Close Pr, open your problem project and try to export again.

  • Can PCM multi-channel wav (not DD or DTS) be sent over SPDIF

<Can PCM multi-channel wav (not DD or DTS) be sent over SPDIF? --- X-Fi Elite Pro SB055A and Audio Creation Mode ---
If I understand correctly, SPDIF format can support uncompressed MULTICHANNEL wav format (within the limitations of its bandwidth) as well as the more usual DD or DTS encoded format on SPDIF.
One of the neat things about Creative's Audio Creation Mode in the Recorder section is the ability to actually record to a multi-wav format (but the sample size seems to be fixed at 24 bit). This means it is quite simple to have several mixer inputs and record a mixed multi-channel wav file in one go. Great and this works as expected with a 5. ?24 bit/48 kHz recorded test file.
My question is when one plays this recorded multi-channel wav file back, the mixer monitor (playback) shows the various 5. (say) channels with their separate content. Can this multi-channel *uncompressed* wav data? be sent over the SPDIF output as is to preserve the PCM quality? (so no DD or DTS encoding used)? I have tried this and I?ONLY seem to be able to get a STEREO (2 channel mixed down) version received at another SPDIF-in sound card (my Audigy 2ZS PCMCIA). I tried almost all selections at both ends involving SPDIF.

@? In answer to my own question, and I think I had known this a while back, SPDIF standard only supports transmission of either 2 channel PCM (uncompressed) stereo with up to 24 bit resolution per channel and up to as much as 92 kHz sampling frequency, or compressed (DD or DTS) multichannel audio up to 5..
Since each frame of SPDF is 64 bits in length (with a single sample of L and R channels plus extra bits of status in each frame), at 92 kHz max sampling rate, this translates to about 3 Mbits/sec bit rate. However most SPDF don't support the 92 kHz rate (which for 24 bit would be the stereo rate for DVD-Audio) for various copyright protection reasons.
Here is short demonstration of SPDIF transmission of 24bit/96 kHz between two sound cards with and without "bit accurate for playback" enabled:

  • Why can I not set dpi in a multi channel file?

I was sent a file that was saved in "multi channel and cannot do the settings I need to do for output. cannot add registration marks, cannot resave as a lower version file and cannot set the dpi I need for screenprinting. I have only been doing this for 20 years and of course this is the first ti,me I have had this problem and the customer is out of town and needs the job at the end of the week.

Open the multi-channel file and Select All>Copy>New, which will let you make a new grayscale image to the same pixel dimensions:
Then you can simply drag and drop the spot channels to the new file. Here my multi-channel spot plates are set as Pantone 7495, 212, and 279:
I can then save the grayscale as a PSD (DCS is no longer needed), place it in InDesign (InDesign does not support a multi-channel color space so it has to be GS, RGB, CMYK, plus spot channels), and either print separations with crops at a chosen line screen, or export the spot separations to PDF.
If you want to skip the InDesign step you can save the grayscale plus spots directly to PDF (PDF/X-4) from Photoshop:

  • How to export diadem channels to an existing excel file with a certain configuration

    Hello,
I would like to export some channels from the Data Portal of Diadem  to an existing excel file. The excel file consists of many spreadsheets and each channel  should match one spreadsheet.
I´ve tried to use EXCELExport() function but it doesn´t work.(this function is designed for something else, it generates a new excel file). I´ve tried to access to each spreadsheet and copy the information throughout a for statement but this solution needs a lot of time. If somebody has any idea, please help.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    Hi Ovidius,
You have two options that I can think of.  You can export the data from the Data Portal to a temporary file, probably a CSV file, then load the data from file into the Excel template, OR you could stick with the Excel ActiveX approach but change to assigning a range of cells instead of individual cell values one at a time.
There is an Excel File Export option in DIAdem, but it always creates a new Excel file, it can not be used to export to an existing Excel file.

  • Export all Channels to Excel without a dialog or a stp file

    Hello,
i try to write a vbs script that export all channels that exists to excel without a dialog. By the reson that i don´t know exactly how many channels are generated while the measurement i can´t use a stp file. I tried to set all variables but everytime i get a global error (excelstat=100).
Since this problem was discussed  in 2006 ( http://forums.ni.com/ni/board/message?board.id=60&message.id=2115&query.id=95137#M2115)  perhabs there is a solution now with Diadem 10.2, besides generate the stp file in the script or hold stp files for any possible number of channels.
    Thanks for the help

    Hi diademi,
Nothing has changed in DIAdem since then, but you do have several options.  First and foremost, you can save the data as a TDM file and use the freely downloadable TDM Excel Add-in to load the TDM file into Excel.  This has the advantage that it's extremely fast but the disadvantage that it's completely inflexible as to where and how the written values show up in Excel.
    http://zone.ni.com/devzone/cda/tut/p/id/4906
If that doesn't work for you, you can export the data channels into an ASCII file, as mentioned in the older link.  This has the advantage that it's fast but the disadvantage that it's not very flexible as to where and how the written values show up in Excel.
Finally, you can export your data channels into an Excel file using ActiveX calls in a DIAdem VBScript.  This has the advantage that it's flexible in where and how you write the values, but the disadvantage that it's comparatively slow, especially for large data sets.
Let me know what sounds most promising, and I'll send you code.  Also, please confirm whether you're using Excell 2007 or an earlier version.

Because AI acquire waveform need user key in those channel with ","... but ehat i want is user can choose the channel from a combo box and then once user click a 'add' button then the value will store in memory, after user click done then the value can send to AI acquire waveform together...
i had tried hard about this but still can't get what i want.... -_-|
hope anyone can reply as soon as possible...

HI, Brett B... thanks for your reply
I'm using labVIEW 7.1 Express... i know the "Write LabVIEW Measurement File.vi" too, but it cannot support the file tpe that i need... so i just can find other way to do that...
the file type that i need is call *.log\*.DAT... so... there got any solution to do that? or i can modified the "Write LabVIEW Measurement File.vi"?

The Windows Media codec you are using is running in the "demo" mode. To export full clips you must purchase or upgrade to one of the export capable codec components like those included in the "Studio" or "Studio Pro HD" software package.

  • How do you import multi track wav files

How do you import multi track wave files into Logic Pro?
These files are form a Sound Devices 664 mixer.

Is this a 5 or 6 channel single wav file?
I don't believe Logic will import these but can't be 100% sure because I'm not using the very latest version, I'm at 9.1.5 because it's stable. I do know that "SoundTrack Pro" that shipped with the disk version of Logic can export multichannel files so I'm guessing that it may very well open them as well. Soundtrack Pro has been discontinued but if you do have it, make sure it's the latest version.
Or... if you know anyone with the Nuendo DAW, it will open multichannel wavs which you can then export to any format you wish.
Might also want to look at "Reaper" it may well open Multichannel WAV files and has a 30 or 60 day trial license and only costs $60 for a license. An amazing DAW mainly developed by a single individual.
