Exporting Music Digital Booklet for iTunes Upload

I'm a bit new to InDesign, and having difficulties exporting a finished booklet for an album my company is releasing on iTunes.
iTunes has certain minimum requirements, most of which are easy to accommodate. One of them, however, is proving to be tricky for me. They say the pages must all be in landscape orientation, and must be sized at 11 inches x 8.264 inches.
Imagine the size of a CD booklet in your hand (about 4.25" x 4.25"), and then imagine the size when you have the booklet open (about 8.5" x 4.25"). This is the same size the booklet is in InDesign currently. I need to figure out how to export the booklet in its current size to those exact PDF dimensions of 11" x 8.264", and if possible, to be able to choose the color of the extra canvas space that is created as a result. I'd likely choose white, or a neutral gray.
Can this be done in InDesign? I haven't been able to find anything online to help, and after waiting over two hours for Adobe customer service to call me back, it was quickly apparent that the guy calling from India who couldn't speak clear English could not understand what I was asking, and I doubt he knew the answer anyway. I don't know, because I had to finally hang up.
DG

I'm making a digital booklet for iTunes because we are a label and we are releasing an album, and a digital booklet is to accompany said album.
You asked me if I would be using Folio Builder, and the answer is no, I'm using InDesign. If Folio Builder is a function of InDesign, then I didn't know that. Like I said, the app is new to me, which is why I'm here asking this question.
FYI, the 11" x 8.264" dimensions required by iTunes match the 1024 px x 768 px you mentioned.
Do you have any more questions for me or do you the answer to the question?

  • Digital Booklets for albums no longer handled within iTunes - so annoying!

So, as one of its "improvements" to iTunes, digital booklets are now handled by iBooks.  And they have removed the ability to edit the metadata, so now I have a bunch of booklets in iBooks in no order, and unsearchable.
    1. I can't see why I should want to have another app open to read the booklets assiciated with an album I am listening to.
    2. Why should I not be able to edit the metadata, or create my own booklets from PDF or scans?
    3. If they do change this, am I really going to have to edit the metadata of my 5000 digital booklets inn my iTunes library?
What a pain the the backside!

    I second your emotion!
I have not been an iBook user (and I don't even own an iPhone or iPad), but I am a huge iTunes user (on an iMac). Here are my observations and complaints.
I think this is some sort of mistake or oversight - it makes no sense whatsoever to remove an iTunes music digital booklet from it's source - to force us to open another app to view the liner notes for an album. I predict (and certainly hope) they will reintegrate this in the future.
When I opened iBooks, it only imported one (one!) of numerous digital booklets from my iTunes library. The rest it left stranded in iTunes.
When I tried to import the rest - all named "digital booklet.pdf" and nested within the iTunes library file structure - it tried to overwrite the one that was already there.
The books themselves are buried deep within the system library file system - quite inaccessible.
That's not a problem, necessarily, but not being able to edit metadata (title, author, etc.) also makes no sense whatsoever. Shouldn't it work like iTunes, where I can edit artist, song and album title, etc.?
Anyway, this strikes me as an inadvertent snafu - a bad side effect of the iBooks improvements. Again, I hope Apple is paying attention and will improve both the fuctionality of iBooks (particularly as relates to metadata editability) and its integration with iTunes (reuiniting our music with its accompanying documentation).

  • I don't have a computer on which to convert a digital booklet in iTunes to a useable form for iBooks.  Why won't it download using the cloud like all the other media I purchase on my ipad?

I don't have a computer on which to convert a digital booklet in iTunes to a useable form for iBooks.  Why won't it download using the cloud like all the other media I purchase on my ipad?

LP content can only be downloaded on a computer's iTunes (or 1st gen Apple TV), you can't download them on an iOS device - and I haven't seen anything that say it will change in iOS 8. If you don't have a computer then at the moment you won't be able to download/view LP content
    About LP : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3823
After you buy an album with iTunes LP on an iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch, the album's songs will download directly to the device. The iTunes LP will download to iTunes on your computer when you choose Store > Check for Available Downloads.

  • How do i retrieve my digital booklets for albums?

When I copied my iTunes Library from my PC to my Mac Book Pro (Maverick), I lost all of the digital booklets for my albums purchased from the iTunes store in the past. Anyone know if I can get them back? Are they possibly hidden somewhere else on a Mac?

I have no personal experience with this, but I suggest looking in the Mac's iBooks app.

  • Problems with importing digital booklets in iTunes 12

    Hi there!
I'm using several Macs, all with iTunes 12.0.1 and I have the same problem on all computers: I can't import PDFs as digital booklets for my albums anymore!
There's no problem with digital booklets that come with purchases on the iTunes-Store. But if I import a CD into my iTunes and scan the booklet as an a PDF (as I always did in the last years), I can't import the PDF to my mediathek anymore! It will not be shown in my iTunes.
Does someone have the same problem and perhaps knows a solution for this? Is this just a bug in the current version of iTunes or has something changed with the handling of importing the digital booklets and I'm just to blind to see?
    Thank you very much!
    Best regards,
    Michael

    Hi!
    Thank you, Peter!
I created a PDF with my scanner software and Acrobat Pro like I always did an tried to import this PDF into iTunes on two ways: First by simply dragging it to the iTunes window (which was no problem before I updated to 12.0.1) and then I tried via the file-menu "Add to mediathek..." (which is Key cmd-O).
I'm using the german version of iTunes - please excuse, if the translation of the menu item is not correct! The german version ist "Ablage -> "Zur Mediathek hinzufügen..."!
Is it possible, that the booklet is shown on some place that i don't find?

  • Digital booklets on iTunes in the Cloud

I cannot re-download digital booklets through iTunes in the Cloud, why this is so?

I am having the same problem! Did you ever find a solution to this problem?

  • Digital booklet from iTunes causing Preview to crash

I was conflicted about whether to put this question in the iTunes for Mac or the Mountain Lion community, but, as you can see, I've settled on Mountain Lion because I believe iTunes is not causing the problem.
I downloaded "Electric Ladyland" from iTunes the other day and received a digital booklet with the album. When I double-clicked the booklet in iTunes, Preview would open up (as it does with any of the other digital booklets I have stored in iTunes) and display the first or the second page of the PDF. After swiping either left or right to view the previous or the next page, though, Preview would completely shut down, necesitating a force quit every time.
Most concerning to me is the fact that every time I tried opening this PDF in Preview my whole Mac would slow down significantly and, according to iStat Menus and the Activity Monitor, my memory and CPU usage would spike. Prior to clicking the booklet, my Mac would normally be using less than 2 of its 4 GB of memory and the CPU would be almost completely idle, with no individual program using up more than 30% of its processing power at any point in time. While this particular PDF was open in Preview my memory usage would jump to the full 4 GB and Activity Monitor was reporting that Preview was using almost "200%" of my CPU.
Interestingly enough, I can open this PDF with Adobe Reader and am able to view every page just fine. None of my other digital booklets or other PDFs outside of iTunes cause Preview to crash like this, so I think it must be an issue between this specific file and Preview.
I tried deleting and re-downloading the file (I had to contact iTunes support so they could re-upload the booklet to my account) and that did nothing; the booklet still caused the same problems. The support staff member I was emailing back and forth with had no suggestions for me. She forwarded me to an AppleCare advisor who also had no idea what the problem might be. (He actually forwarded me back to iTunes support!)
    Anyone else experienced this?

Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a test, not a solution. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
Copy the PDF you're having problems with to the Public folder in your home folder.
    Step 1
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is localized to your user account.
Enable guest logins* and log in as Guest. For instructions, launch the System Preferences application, select Help from the menu bar, and enter “Set up guest users” (without the quotes) in the search box. Don't use the Safari-only “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac.”
While logged in as Guest, you won’t have access to any of your personal files or settings. Applications will behave as if you were running them for the first time. Don’t be alarmed by this; it’s normal. If you need any passwords or other personal data in order to complete the test, memorize, print, or write them down before you begin.
Test while logged in as Guest. You'll need to navigate in the Finder to the Users folder, then to the home folder of your regular login account, and then to the Public folder, where you'll find the file you copied. Try to open it in Preview. Same problem?
After testing, log out of the guest account and, in your own account, disable it if you wish. Any files you created in the guest account will be deleted automatically when you log out of it. You can also delete the copy of the PDF.
*Note: If you’ve activated “Find My Mac” or FileVault, then you can’t enable the Guest account. The “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac” is not the same. Create a new account in which to test, and delete it, including its home folder, after testing.
    Step 2
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party system modifications that load automatically at startup or login.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards. Boot in safe mode* and log in to the account with the problem. The instructions provided by Apple are as follows:
Shut down your computer, wait 30 seconds, and then hold down the shift key while pressing the power button.
When you see the gray Apple logo, release the shift key.
If you are prompted to log in, type your password, and then hold down the shift key again as you click Log in.
Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, and some things won’t work at all, including wireless networking on certain Macs.  The next normal boot may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
*Note: If FileVault is enabled, or if a firmware password is set, or if the boot volume is a software RAID, you can’t boot in safe mode.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem?
After testing, reboot as usual (i.e., not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of steps 1 and 2.

  • Digital Booklets in iTunes not working

I had to format my PC but I did a complete backup of all my itunes folder, now that my pc is restored and all my music files are in place, the digital booklets i had purchased off itunes are no longer visible in the itunes library. I have to go to the folder itself and double click on the pdf file to open it, If I go to File, Add file, in itunes and click on the booklets, itunes doesn't add them, it actualy deletes the PDF file and puts it on a Unknown folder, this is all very weird, what is going on?

    Hi,
    faced the same problem.
A work around is - within iTunes - to right click on the "unknown" pdf file and choose the information entry on the context menu. Fill in the album, artist etc. and the booklet will appear where it belongs too...

  • Adding Digital Booklet to iTunes

I can't get the digital booklet to show up in iTunes with the album.  I found it in the recently added tab, added the metadata, yet it still doesn't show up with the album.  Help
    -Skifahrer7

Your re-added digital booklet probably ended up in the Books section of your library. Get Info., change the media kind to Music and add in the album & artist details.

  • Can't view digital booklets in iTunes 9.0

I recently copied my entire iTunes library to a new hard drive and just noticed that my digital booklets are no longer showing up as line items in the iTunes player. The PDF files are on the hard drive and are accessible if I go to the correct folders, but I can't see them in the iTunes player itself. I've tried using "Add A File To Library" and "Add A Folder To Library." I've also tried dragging the PDF file icons into the iTunes player. Nothing seems to work. Does anyone know how to fix this?

@turingtest2. Thanks for your response! I see what you mean and have used that to solve the issue. There was an additional twist though. However, part of the problem is that the original poster (Rob724) could not get the files to appear as line items in iTunes. They will not appear in iTunes by just placing the file in the album folder nor by using "Automatically Add to iTunes" folder functionality. One must add the *.pdf file using the *File>Add File to Library...* menu item. After that, the file will appear as a line item but only at the END of your track listings. At that point, you can do as turingtest2 suggests and reassociate the file using the Get Info attributes.

  • Digital booklets in iTunes

I recently bought an album on iTunes that included a digital booklet. Usually, digital booklets show up in your iTunes music library as a PDF. However, when I copied the album and Digital Booklet to another of my computers by the "add to library" menu option, the music was correctly placed in the Music library, but the digital booklet went into the Books library in iTunes and I cannot move it to the Music library where it should be. Is there a setting preventing me from doing so? Or what am I doing wrong?

Given that iBooks supports PDFs and iTunes will manage any Digital Booklets purchased as part of an album from the iTunes Store, the default is to put imported PDFs into the Books source. Select the item in iTunes, Get Info. and on the Options tab set the media kind to Music. On the Info tab ensure the Name is set to *Digital Booklet - Album* and that the *Artist, Album Artist, & Album* fields match the rest of the album.
If you still can't get the booklet to merge with the rest of the album see my article on Grouping Tracks Into Albums, in particular the topic Tried that, there are STILL too many covers!

  • Unable to download digital booklets for albums

Everytime I have purchased a music album it will not let me download the digital booklet. It gives me an "Unable to Download Item" error message. Can anyone else help me with the issue? I'm getting pretty infuriated now because those booklets are the reason I have downloaded a few albums. However, it won't download.

I'm the same! I pre-ordered Save Rock and Roll weeks ago and when it was made available here, all of the songs downloaded but the booklet didn't. On my iTunes account on the computer it shows the booklet in the track list, but it doesn't open at all. It's really annoying me.
