Exporting Newbie

I've used FCE a couple of times on a variety of macs and was very enthusiastic to see how it would run on my new MBPro however I have obviously set it up wrong because whenever I try an export video in any from whether standard Quicktime video or any form of compression the resulting quality is atrocious, blotchy colour reminiscent of the worst compression formats, while still being truly epic file sizes that would suggest uncompressed video.
I know this is a pretty broad question, but what very obvious thing am I missing?
My video is rendered before exporting, I have done this before on other macs.
Waiting for the very obvious penny to drop,
Alex

Hello Alex,
What is the nature of your source material - DV, HDV, import from a DVD ....
Assuming it was PAL-DV, did you capture the material with the DV-PAL Easy Setup in FCE? Check your sequence in FCE to see if it's DV-PAL.
What is your intended target for your exported video? A playable DVD, web, iPod, etc. Your export selections will be different for each target.
Assuming you want to export for burning a DVD, you should export as QuickTime Movie, and be sure to UNcheck the "Make Movie Self-Contained" checkbox. Also, be sure to select Include: Audio & Video and Include: Chapter Markers if you are going to use iDVD to burn your DVD.
Self-contained export movies are large (roughly 13GB per hour of DV video) and take a long time to export. When you UNcheck the box you will get a relatively small, QuickTime reference movie, that will export quickly.
You should check the quality of your video on a TV or video monitor, not your computer monitor. They will not show the same results.

  • How to enable exporting video. newbie

Hi all, I know this is elementary but have pity on me as I'm still a newbie. I have a sequence with a few audio tracks onto a video track. I want to File/export to a vimeo video file. When I pick export, it only allows me to export the audio.  I *know* its some setting I hit but not sure where. Also, this is what I have for my video and audio tracks and I have a feeling it's because Video 1 doesn't have the small tab at the beginning clicked as the Audio tab has "A1".
I click on that small block but cannot get it selected.
    please advise ! thanks!

Jim, thanks for taking the time to answer. My confusion came from the fact that I could not click on the 'export video' box. however, once I changed the file format to something other than "export audio" I was able to set it to vimeo hd.
    thank you!

  • Newbi, How can I Exporting to .jpg...?

    Hi,
    Newbi question.
Q1. I've just made all the adjustments to my RAW files; can anyone tell me how to export custom sized jpg's?
Q2. Is there a way to open up multiple images at a time in PhotoShop with all the adjustments made in Aperture so that I can print? I much prefer PS to print; I’ve printed the same image in both apps with the same settings and custom profiles assigned and PS produces the best colour accuracy.
    Thanks in advance,
    Simon

Both multiple exports to file and open images in external editor work the same way .....
click and <Apple> click your selects (or range using <shift> click or rubber band drag). There are menu items under edit which are useful (select to end, select to beginning, select all) and their keyboard shortcuts.
    export to file
Once you have your selected items, right click and choose: export/export version (for your adjusted versions as you might have whole stacks selected)
    output to PS
right click and choose:output to external editor. NOTE: you need to set your editor and path in advance in Aperture/Preferences. If you output more than one image, you will see a warning message saying you are opening up multiple images.
Aperture creates a new master for each PS image for the roundtrip, and when you save your adjusted image in PS, Aperture automatically refreshes (well buglet in 1.5.1 means you need to deselect and select some other image).

  • Newbie - Problem exporting vob file in Toast 7

Grateful for any help here - am a newbie and getting v confused.
I have recorded from a small cam recorder of a friend of mine onto dvd R since it didnt have firewire.
Was hoping to then be able to edit it in iMovie but it couldnt read the file.... then after searcing around forum saw that people recommended Toast 7 to do this conversion and that the problem is that the file is a .vob file and i need .dv??? for iMovie (am i correct?).
Bought program for $80 which seemed pretty steep then followed instuction from forum to drag on to video box but for some reason the export button is never highlighted so cant follow instructions
Guess there is something real dumb that i am doing but cant spot it since this is all a bit new to me

In order to read a .vob file once it has been decrypted from a DVD, you will need something like the QuickTime MPEG-2 plug-in, which is a separate purchase (because of licensing considerations) from Apple. Check out this link:

  • Export quality (THE most popular newbie issue in this forum?)

    Here it is (again)
1.) I'm starting with the "DV NTSC 48kHz" Sequence Preset
    2.) Importing a clip: DV/DVCPRO - NTSC 720x480
3.) Exporting: Quick Time Movie, Self-Contained, Current Settings.
4.) Resulting QT movie looks softer than original footage
-Why? Is footage getting re-compressed or something?
-Should I always export using Uncompressed 10-bit?
-I am only using a computer monitor. Would the quality loss be visible on an NTSC monitor as well?
    What's the definitive answer?
    thanks.
    G5 2.0Ghz dual   Mac OS X (10.4.3)

4.) Resulting QT movie looks softer than original footage.<<</div>
Probably because you're viewing it on a computer monitor and the default QT quality setting for the file hasn't been reset to "High." With the file open in QT, hit 'command j' to bring up the movie's properties. Choose Video Track and then Quality to reset it. There's a drag-n-drop freeware script to perform this for you: http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macosx/14255
-Why? Is footage getting re-compressed or something?-<<</div>
Not unless you checked the box to re-compressed all frames when you exported.
-I am only using a computer monitor. Would the quality loss be visible on an NTSC monitor as well?<<</div>
    No.

  • Newbie: BW Export to Excel/CSV file destination and file name

Is it possible to control where the export of a BW web query is sent by appending the url with some tag voodoo? Also, can I create the file name of the exported file? I figured out how to kick off the export process, but haven't found any code to control the export destination or file name. I wish to skip over the save dialog and write the file to a specific location.

    Hello John,
BW provides several ways to export data. Please look into Open Hub for example.
Other options include Information Broadcasting in SAP NetWeaver '04 or MDX, XML Webservices, or OLAP BAPI.

  • Newbie-Size of video for export

I'm trying to finish my video.  The problem is that after I exported it and made it into a video, the final product is too small.  I was wondering if there are any settings to change the output size of my video so that people can see the details of the clip.  Thanks in advance.

    Small as in dimensions.
I've already tried several output dimensions:
         2000x1230 with 1.333 pixel rate/size (whatever that's called)
         1920x1080 w/ 1.333 pixel size
         1440x1080 with 1.00 pixel.
The video/final product comes out small, about 4-5 inches wide and 3-4 inches length and the details of the video can't be seen, which really defeats the purpose of making it.
I want to know if there's something I can adjust to make the video a decent size, preferable 7-9 inches wide or something like that, if you catch my drift.

  • Newbie export and import question

Here's the next part. I have a system with roughly 3+ billion records.
My design is to convert the data in the company's db to ours. The db is still in production so my thinking was to export a day's worth of data using Oracle's exprt functionality. Export takes parameters so I can give it psuedo code like export... where date = yyyy/mm/dd.
On the oracle export faq it says it may not work well with large data sets. On daily average could Oracle export 3M records and import it into another table?
It's on this table I'd put the sequence - from thread Sequence question, need to prefix the sequence with a 4 digit incrementing
    Thanks

Sounds like the worst possible solution but then you provided no information as to version numbers, latency, number of tables, transaction size, partitioning, or number of tablespaces.
Assuming a currently supported version of the product why not?
    1. Transportable tablespaces
    2. Streams
    3. DataPump
    4. External tables
Export/Import is deprecated technology. It should be the option of last resort.

  • (newbie) Importing/Exporting proxy service configurations?

    Hello,
I'm new to AquaLogic and am going through its tutorial right now. I have a question: After I create a proxy service's flow chart going through all the configuration effort listed here[1], I would like to transfer this proxy service to another AquaLogic instance without needing to enter all this information manually in again.
Is there a way to save perhaps an XML representation of the proxy service (something that specifies all the configuration rules I entered) that I can the subsequently upload into another AquaLogic instance--or another way I can move a proxy service from one machine to another without needing to manually reconfigure it each time?
    Thanks,

    Hi Glen,
I don't know the workshop way (ALSB3.0 only) but here is the console way:
On the main page of the console, go to "System Administration" on the bottom left side.
At the top of the list, you now have your import/export options. Click export. I like to use the "Export Resources" instead of "Export Projects" as it gives you more freedom when importing.
Create a session in your target domain and do the import. What you can also do which I think is rather good, is create a
customisation script for each of your environments to change endpoints
etc. It's a bit of a confusing xml file at first, but it works really well.
Once you've a service deployed, you can export a customisation file also
    from the system administration options.

  • NewBe question - Effects not exporting to disk

    Hi,
I've been experimenting with GB. I have a Video with with an audio track that is very low. I imported the video into GB selected instrument with the audio on it. then on the info window clicked on edit and added the AUGraphicEQ to work bring up the levels. I have it sounding okay in GB. However when I go to share >> export to disk >> full quality, the output is the same as the input.
I have also tried to turn off the track effect and apply it to the master, same result. I also tried to perform some effects on a jiggle track and export and mp3 with the same result.
Basically I cannot figure out how to get the effects I hear in GB to become an output file.
Any direction or thoughts are appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Mike

Normally the effects should be on the exported audio file. Are you sure that they are not applied? Or is the level just too low? Try to turn off the auto-normalize feature in GB's preferences.

  • Newbie Questions - Interlacing, Formats and exporting to iDVD

Sorry everybody, but I've got some issues. I'm new to Final Cut Express but I have a decent knowledge of digital video formats and resolutions, etc. I'm going to try to give as much information as possible so as to make your jobs easier.
I'm putting together a project for work that is using NTSC DV (4:3, 720x480) that I didn't shoot myself as well as a number of photographs (6-8 megapixels). I originally put the timeline together in iMovie '08 then exported as XML to FCE. I moved the pictures around using keyframes to create what iMovie likes to dub the "Ken Burns" effect (although I somehow doubt that he was the first to use it). The project is only about two and a half minutes long.
I read up on the best way to export to iDVD and found that creating a Quicktime reference movie then directing iDVD to that seems the best way as you're not encoding the video twice. Unfortunately, the final product ends up extremely choppy and interlacing artifacts are everywhere (especially in the photos). I tried playing on an actual television, thinking my iMac just wasn't de-interlacing the image correctly, and it still looks just awful and horribly choppy.
    What did I do wrong?
    Help!

Thanks for a quick response. The problem is apparent through the whole video, both video and still images. In Easy Setup it was set at DV-NTSC. When I exported from iMovie it basically just kept the videos at their right place in the timeline, the photos, text and music didn't move over, so all of that was imported in FCE as you thought.
I would describe the problem as being extremely jerky. Not starting and stopping, just horribly un-smooth (that's not a word). But I don't get those big macroblocks like when something is encoded at a low bitrate. Especially when panning over still photos, strait lines get very, very aliased. It draws a lot of attention to edges and lines in the photo.
If, instead of just creating a reference movie, I export as H.264 and choose "DeInterlace Source Material" it does seem a little smoother, but the photos still look pretty bad.
    Thanks again for any help.

  • Export & Renaming  -  Newbie to Lightroom seeks answers.

I shoot stills for various networks and fortunately (or unfortunately) Aperture has been pretty good to me as an organizational tool where I can edit down images, maybe do some lighting adjustments if it's on a soundstage, then rename them and add metadata and then export them.  It's very easy to batch edit metadata, and everything gets put into the JPEGS and TIFFS that I have to deliver.  I shoot (RAW) on Nikon D3S/D4.  Aperture renames the masters......and the masters names match the jpeg version names if for some reason I need to go back to it and re-export or tweak something for my portfolio.
Needless to say, on a side-project shoot recently, I decided to take the plunge, get Lightroom 4 and give it a try.  I like some of the image editing tools....masks and what not are great. And in my heart I think Lightroom is probably a much better solution in the long run.  Like I said, image editing --good results there....but this renaming/exporting business....holy crap.  I've spent three days so far trying to do this.  Need some of your expert help because my workflow that existed can no longer exist in the Lightroom world.
    Here's what I can't do:
I can't make new versions or (in LR wording) virtual copies (say one black and white, and one color) of the same image and export it as an individual.  Or rename it in sequence.  It always reverts to the master's name.  This is very frustrating.  I re-order my images (to group certain scenes together) in the library/folder view, then I go to rename, and it's great except for those virtual copies.  If I've expanded a stack in a folder, it should rename all images in sequence....it's trying to out think me.  And to that end, it's probably working.
But this is a big problem....because I now have two VideoShoot_32_10222012 images (one a color NEF and one a black and white NEF * Copy) and when exported, one is called VideoShoot_32_10222012.jpg  and the other is VideoShoot_32_10222012-2.jpg.  And of course is not where I want it numbered wise -- in my custom grouping.  So it messes that up by one image number.....I've tried different ways to do this. Including just deciding to take one of the copies out and only have the master.
I SHOULDN'T HAVE TO DECIDE TO TAKE IMAGES OUT OF MY LIBRARY TO EXPORT EFFICIENTLY.
So, any pearls of wisdom?  Do I have to edit and change metadata (on the raw) in Capture NX2 and then pull into Lightroom?  Do I then export images as JPEGS, TIFFS and keep an archived DNG file?
    Thanks --
    Jeremiah

When LR is told to use the filename in its export naming setup; or when you use the Renaming option for the image file itself; LR has no choice but to repeat the exact same naming for virtual copies, because the same single file is being referred to - both master and virtual copy share that.
But you can include "copy name" within the naming setup at export, as well as the filename. That way, these various versions will each produce consistent, unique-named output (by default, new VCs are created as "Copy 1", "Copy 2" etc but you can then alter that as you wish).
Another thing you could do, is to include a sequence # or image # as part of the export filename - 001, 002, 003... -  image 08 of 36 - that kind of thing. But this numbering might easily then differ for future exports of the same image(s) from LR; which is not ideal IMO.

  • Newbie here: best sizing option while exporting for print?

What is an ideal/standard option for exporting and sizing a photo for print when you don't know if they will print 4x6, 5x7 or 8x10?  Is there a good option that will consider anything?  Bottom line: best sizing option while exporting?  Thanks

If you don't know the size that someone will print at, then you don't resize at all. Leave the Resize to Fit box unchecked in the Image Sizing portion of the Export dialog box  Let the person doing the printing do the resizing (if necessary)

  • Newbie Question on Exported Photos

I moved from 20 years of Windows use to an iMAC a couple of weeks ago. Love it so far. However, I am stuck with an iPHOTO issue. It goes like this:
I download images from my camera to iPHOTO into an event, say Pets. I then edit a photo in Pets, say dog.jpg. I edit my photos in Fireworks by dragging dog.jpg to the Fireworks icon on the dock. After I edit dog.jpg I want to export it into my Pets event as say, dog-edited.jpg. That is when I am having problems. I export dog-edited.jpg from Fireworks to Pets. It exports but I never see it in the Pets event in IPHOTO. If I search for dog-edited.jpg in Spotlight, the file is found and it is in the Pets directory within iPHOTO. However, when I open iPHOTO it doesn't show appear.
How do I get my edited photos (those exported from Fireworks) to appear in iPHOTO?
Thanks for any help you can provide.

I'm not familiar with Fireworks but if you can set it to be your editor of choice in iPhoto's General preference pane via the "Edit photo:" menu you can use it from within iPhoto.
Then if you want to be able to use both iPhoto's and the 3rd party editing features from withing iPhoto the following will let you:
Using 2 Image Editors in iPhoto
If you want to use both iPhoto's editing mode and a 3rd party editor without having to go back and forth to the Preference pane, once you've selected the 3rd party editor as your editor of choice, reset the Preferences back to "Open in main window". Then when you Control-click on an image, you can select "Edit in external editor" in the Contextual menu to edit in your selected editor.
It all depends on Fireworks working like other 3rd party image editors.
