Exporting OMF with metadata?

I'm working on a short film, and I'm trying to export an OMF to the sound designer. He's working in ProTools, and I know nothing about sound editing stuff, but he's telling me he's not getting the meta data from the original sound files. Now I've tried Every kind of OMF and AAF export I can find in Premiere, but nothing seems to work.
So is there a way to export an OMF that points to the original audiofiles, instead of writing new ones? Or some other way to keep the original meta data of the file?

Not sure what metadata your sound designer is looking for, but try not "encapsolating audio."  I believe you have to manually locate your audio files and reconnect them when you send it to ProTools.  Also, I've also had better experiences outputting OMFs from Audition.  Send you sequence to Audition and then create your OMF from there.

  • Exporting OMF with Volume Levels

My movie's done, I'm trying to export the audio as OMF files for my post guy to use on his machines at work.
Problem is that I can't figure out a way to export and leave my volume levels intact. We've done a lot of the mixing already, but according to Mr. Audio the OMF files I burned for him have all volume levels at 0, no deviation.
Can I export OMF with the volume controls using only Final Cut 5 or Soundtrack?
Next question is about Automatic Duck, a Final Cut plug-in that is supposed to solve my problem. I tried installing it and it seems to not want to work without a copy of After Effects on the same machine. Is there a way to load that plug in for just Final Cut and have it work?
    Thanks

    hey Mike
    welcome to the FCP forum.
FCP5 does not to my knowledge export clip based audio gain or pan adjustment data in its OMF export ... you'll need something like Automaic Duck's Pro Export plug-in for that
if you already own Automatic Duck's fabulous plug-in then you should have no problem exporting your timline with (almost) all dissolves, keyframes and effects intact.
if you are having a problem then I can only guess you've bought the wrong plug-in ... you need the FCP Pro Export plug-in.
you'll be glad to know that Wes Plate, from Automatic Duck is a regular contributor to the forum so you can be sure you'll get the advice you need.

  • Adding and /exporting/ image with Metadata problem

i have been able to add metadata to an image i need to publish but for some reason i am having a problem figuring out how to export this metada with the image.
i see i have an option to export as original or as version. does this affect whether metada has been exported?
also, can i export as PNG as get the metadata in the image or do i have to use something like jpg for some reason?
finally, is there a way to verify that the metadata has been exported along with the image to my desktop before i upload to the web?! it seems really sort of odd to have to re-import the image into Aperture to test the exported image to see if the metadata is there. i mean, i am glad i just did this with the image and metadata that i exported b/c the metadata is not there but it seems like this could be simpler.
    TIA

What export preset are you using? Did you check the box to include metadata. This is all in the manual. PNG has poor support for metadata so you're best sticking to Jpeg. You can check for the metadata in Preview, or an of a 100 other photo apps.

  • Export OMF with levels

    Hi there,
I am trying to export an omf in FCP 7.0.3 with levels, but the audio guy doesn't see the levels. He is using a pyramix system.
I have heard that automatic duck has a plug in where you can export to aaf with levels, but this is an expensive program.
Is there an other way to do this?
    regards, Micha

    Dear Nick,
I know how to export an OMF, but my problem is that the de audio editor doesn't see the levels. The manaul says that this should work, but it doesn't. He does see the cross fades, but not the levels.
I am now trying a workaround by media managing a copy of the sequence without video and make a XML file, but the problem there is that the although I removed all the video, the media manager still includes the video in the export.
The audio editor can read the xml file with the levels and the cross fades, but the export is now very big (it is a 50 minutes sequence) because the video is still included.

  • Exporting version with metadata

    Hi there,
this is probably an easy question. If I have a file (RAW or JPG), make some changes on it using aperture, including changes in the metadata such as adding tags and possibly GPS data, then how do I export the edited version so that the metadata of the export reflects the changes I have made within aperture?
Currently I command click on the photo and ask to "export version". I select the "JPG - original size" option, which, upon inspection, has the box "include metadata" ticked. But the exported file only has the metadata that came from the camera. Keywords are always gone and GPS data is often (?) gone.
Can anybody help me with this?
    Thanks a lot,
    Gil

Apologies. Just found an earlier thread which deals with this bug in aperture:

  • How to export date with metadata

How do I include date when exporting metadata (not with the image).
I can't get Aperture (3.1.2) to export any kind of date. It shows the date field field, but the value is blank. Using Automator I can extract and export IXIF date which includes the time. I'd like to be able to export the date without the time code.
    Thanks for any help.

In the Metadata tab of the Inspector, choose IPTC Core. Then, in the Image brick, click in the Date Created field to set it. See if the date now exports with your metadata.
Let us know if that works. Thanks

  • Exporting photos with metadata

I have exported my photos but the Create date is the date that I exported - i.e. I have lost all the meta data regarding the time and date the picture as taken. What is the option that I need to tick for this data to be exported such that my photos retain their original create date?
    Thanks
    James

    James
Select the file in the iPhoto Window and go File -> Export. In the resulting dialogue have the option to write the tags, captions, titles and location metadata to the file.
The date and time data is written to the file anyway.
but the Create date is the date that I exported
Are you looking with the Finder? The date and time on the photograph is contained in the Exif metadata. The Finder is unaware of Exif and shows you the date and time of the file. View the pic with an app that is Exif aware.

  • Export videos with metadata to Final Cut Pro?

I would like to use Aperture 3 for reviewing video footage from my SLR and adding notes, ratings, etc. Has anyone come up with a way to get this metadata exported from Aperture and imported into Final Cut Pro? I can export a simple tab-delimited file from Aperture, but is there a way to get that in a form where it can become a bin in Final Cut Pro. (I think Batch List import in FCP will only work for capturing stuff from tape -- my clips already exist on the hard drive.)

Do you want to reedit them or do you just want to work with material generated in imovie. Not sure about the first, but for the second, export a quicktime movie. IMovie works with DVstreams which can cause problems in fcp.

  • Exporting raw, with metadata settings

is it possible to export a raw image from aperture with the settings applied in aperture (either as dng, if imported as such, or with xmp sidecar file)? i only see export options for a version (tiff, jpg, etc) or original (as shot or originally imported). but what if i decide i don't like aperture and want to go over to lightroom or back to bridge ACR or any other system?
aperture isn't what i want it be yet, and although i have hopes that it will be soon, i don't like the idea of spending a lot of time applying settings that i will lose if i decide later to move to a different program (lightroom, etc) later.
    powerbook 1.67   Mac OS X (10.4.3)

that really is a big commitment then... for something that is in my mind severely flawed and only a work in progress. and incredibly slow not to mention. i spent a lot of time on some vacation photos recently, not even a job, and now i feel those photos are going to be forever stuck in there if i later decide to abandon aperture.
i think it's going to be a duke out between lightroom and aperture, but at least a migration from my current workflow - bridge/acr - will be a two way street with lightroom. (actually, currently lightroom is unalbe to write to dng files, which is amazing since it is an adobe creation, right? but at least they are aware of the issue and have rightfully called their program a beta version).

  • How to export files with metadata information displayed?

I want to wash my .jpg files through LR 5 in order to display the filenames.  Via the Slideshow module I have been able to select and direct the displaying of the desired metadata option.  When I export the files the displayed metadata information does not make the trip.  Any assistance is appreciated.

I have given my filenames descriptors, for instance, 0000100 - Jerry rock climbing in Custer State Park SD.  Importing into Lightroom allows me to display the filename metadata.  Exporting the files generated in Lightroom to Photoshop Elements allows me to then create a slideshow in which I have more audio flexibilities.

  • Exporting Raw with metadata ***?

When is Apple going to figure out that MOST publications require raw files or DNG's with META-DATA embeded? How the heck are we supposed to export our raw files with META-DATA????????/
It seems to me that Aperture does most other things well, but this is a serious flaw.

If you want to embed IPTC caption info into your RAW file, you might want to consider Camera Bits, "Photo Mechanic."
It can be used to write IPTC caption and other fields directly to the RAW photo. It can also be used to do the same to jpeg photos without adding a generation of jpeg to the photo. You can make all the changes to the IPTC text you want as many times as you want without opening the photo.
The program is a favorite among photojournalist and I still use it with Aperture.
Apple claims that Aperture's inability to save IPTC info to the file is a feature when it is one of its biggest drawbacks.
Aperture's mission statement of "Aperture never touches the original file" needs to change to "Aperture never touches the original PHOTO"
I WANT to save my caption and copyright info into the the original file, not a separate sidecar that can be lost and editors don't know what to do with.

  • Exporting OMF to Protools from FCP5

I am running FCP 5.1.4 and cutting an HD pix, shot on an F900, downconverted to a DVC PRO 100 hd for editing. I want to export an OMF for a pro tools session. From what I hear, FCP 5 will not export OMF with the pan and volume levels. The sound editor will basically have to remix all the sound. Is this true?

I never use the keyframes for audio.
Because indeed the audio-guy will not receive that info from the omf.
What I always do is add transitions to the audio. sometimes need to scirror the audio. adjust the level on the second part and the ad a transition.
This way your audio-guy will know he needs to do 'something' on that point in the mix. he will not get the level information, but he'll see you made a transition there. together with your scratch mix (see danny boy's post) he'll figure out...

  • Exporting OMF without embeded media?

Does anyone know if there is a way to export an OMF file from FCP which does not contain embeded audio media and only data referring to the original source media?
    Thanks for any pointers,
    Daniel

I've checked out the automaticduck website, and it only seems to be able to export OMF with embeded media. If anybody knows if it can in practice perform the function of exporting session data as OMF (without embeded audio media), please let me know.
If not, it's not a bad idea for somebody to implement. Using OMFs in this manner is standard practice in the film industry.
Sound editors don't have receive gigs of audio data every time there is a change in the edit. All they need is a copy of all the source audio files once, then session data OMFs are sent to them as changes occur (via e-mail cause their small). It's very practical, saves a lot of time and HD space.

  • Exporting omf file from FCPX

Any one know how to export omf with FCPX?  have tried  "automatic duck" but version 4.10 won't work with FCPX.
    help.

If you're going to DVD Studio Pro, it will need to transcode to mpeg-2 at some point.  If you exported a referenced QT movie from FCP7 previously, then DVD Studio Pro was doing the transcoding for you.
In FCPX, I suggest exporting using Compressor 4.  Apply the DVD preset (mpeg2 video and dolby digital audio) and you can also apply chapter markers within Compressor.
Import the 2 resulting files into DVD Studio Pro and no further transcoding (other than menus) will need to be performed when you burn the disc.
