Exporting OMF without embeded media?

Does anyone know if there is a way to export an OMF file from FCP which does not contain embeded audio media and only data referring to the original source media?
Thanks for any pointers,
Daniel

I've checked out the automaticduck website, and it only seems to be able to export OMF with embeded media. If anybody knows if it can in practice perform the function of exporting session data as OMF (without embeded audio media), please let me know.
If not, it's not a bad idea for somebody to implement. Using OMFs in this manner is standard practice in the film industry.
Sound editors don't have receive gigs of audio data every time there is a change in the edit. All they need is a copy of all the source audio files once, then session data OMFs are sent to them as changes occur (via e-mail cause their small). It's very practical, saves a lot of time and HD space.

  • How to export PDF without embedded fonts?

    Hi,
I'm using CrystalReports with VS2008. I export a report in this way:
    rpt.ExportToDisk(ExportFormatType.PortableDocFormat, filename);
This works fine except it includes the used fonts. A older version of our export tool used Delphi and the vcl component which did not include the fonts. Including the fonts increase the pdf filesize in my case from 21kb to 70kb. Sounds less but the export creates around 1500 pdf on one day.
Is there a way to export to pdf without embedding the fonts?
    Thanks
    Thomas

    Hi Thomas,
No, and it's not all just embedded fonts. After CR 8.5 we converted everything to be UNICODE compliant. So as of CR 9 the size of the files, Printing as well as exporting, increased due to the unicode feature. All characters and bits of the files are now double byte in length with the resulting output being typically 4 or 5 times greater in size ( just a guess ).
Only option would be to export as usual through CR and then use PDF API's to remove the fonts from the output file and resave the PDF.
    Thank you

  • Exporting without embedding profile

I want to export some files for printing by a service bureau using a custom profile which is 1.87 MB and do no not want to embed the profile. The images will then be sent directly to the printer without any adjustments and the profile is not needed. This is an option in Photoshop, but I have not found a way to do this in Lightroom. Any help would be appreciated.

Depends on the lab or service. In CMYK workflows, folks by and large just send the numbers within the data to the device as is. The only use for an ICC profile would be if someone wants to open the image and view it correctly (or edit it). In such workflows, it is common for such shops to receive maybe hundreds of output ready CMYK files. Even at 1mb per image, it adds up. Even so, unless bandwidth is an issue, I still recommend an embedded profile. In the very old days (1990’s) some old RIPs would barf on an embedded profile so people stripped them out. I seriously doubt those RIPs are still running and if so, I’d be worried to work with such a shop.
Lab’s that can accept output ready RGB should work the same way. But there are far more labs that expect sRGB and if the OP sent data in something other than sRGB, the front end would make a mess of the output. You’d want an embedded profile assuming the front end can even recognize it and pop some alert.
Perhaps I should have mentioned that I am not dealing with a full service lab, but rather my local Costco which has custom profiles on DryCreek.com. The local personnel do not know a lot about color management, but there is an option on uploading to print the files with no adjustments and they are sent directly to a Fuji Frontier printer. I do most of my more important printing with my Epson 3880, but send small prints to Costco and have have good results without embedded profiles saved as such from Photoshop.
I have sent some prints to CostCo using their custom profiles and left the profile in place.  The CostCo I used simply ignored the embedded profile.

  • How to export video without modification

So it appears that the new iPhoto 9.5 modifies video files when exporting, even when you choose "original." I like to backup my original files without any modification. Images don't seem to be modified, but videos are; the timestamp changes and the size is smaller. Has anyone figured out an easy way to export/backup without modifying the original video files?
I've tried going into the iPhoto library and just backing up manually from there, but Apple has once again modified the file structure of the library so it's hard to figure out if you're getting all the files, or even what date you're getting. It seems to separate it by month and date of import, but not the date the actual image/video was taken.
I liked the old version where you just select a range of images/videos in iPhoto and export the originals to a backup drive without any modification.
Here's a screenshot of how it organizes the files in the library. Kind of a mess.

With past versions, when you exported as "original," it wasn't actually exporting a new file; it was copying the original file to a new location. So you were getting a bit-for-bit copy of the original. It appears to still do that with images—the copied file has the same datestamp and size as the original. By "datestamp" I mean the date you see on the file in Finder, not the embedded Exif info.
But with videos, the new version is modifying the original, making it a smaller file size, and changing the file's datestamp. If I choose "original," I should be getting a direct copy of the original, but I'm not. Instead I'm getting a modified version of it. And given the filesize change, I'm assuming it's a compressed version.
I know direct access to the library isn't supported. It's the Apple way to keep stuff like that hidden. But in the past, if I wanted to, I could view package contents and get to files I needed much more easily than the new version allows.
I'm just trying to find an easy way to back up the original video file, not a modified version of it.

  • Reader-8.1.1 and embedded media file

    Hi,
I cannot get embedded MPEG files running in the new Reader for Linux. I have RealPlayer 10.0.9 installed on my system and the `realplay' starting script is in PATH.
When I click on the movie, a message box opens saying:
Acrobat has encountered an error while playing this media clip:
Without telling the actual error. If I click a second time, the same box opens again, but a small black pop-up opens as well, showing a progress bar and the message `Initializing RealNetworks'. But nothing happens after that.
Do I need to configure something else?
    Thanks for any help/suggestions.
    Alexander

    Alexander,
I'm having a similar problem, but with a Flash file.
I've verified that I can play the file from the
command line and from my KDE Desktop (SUSE Linux 10.1),
and so I'm pretty sure that the player is working.
But when I generate a PDF using LaTeX and your movie15
    package AR8.1.1 redirects me to:
    http://www.adobe.com/special/acrobat/nomediaplayer.html
If I look at the attachments pane, the file is
    correctly identified as "application/x-shockwave-flash"
But under the filename, the phrase "Indeterminate" has
been added, which suggest that the something in the
annotation is not recognized (I'm using move15 2007/05/07).
Either that, or AR itself is broken.
I'm still in the process of dissecting the PDF to see
where the problem lies. But it would be helpful if
someone could post a url to an embedded media example
that is known to work with Linux AR8. That way I can
at least check that my setup is working, which will
    be hakf the battle won.
    Cheers,

  • What causes all my emails with embedded media to always be downloaded with the media broken or removed? How do I solve it?

Whenever people send me emails with embedded videos or pictures, the email always comes in without the media. It will have just the empty box outline where it supposed to be with a tiny broken page icon in the top left-hand corner.
I can't seem to find the cause and the solution and this has been happening for a few years already. Does it have anything to do with my account still being POP and not IMAP? What are the possible reasons and their solutions? Please help, thank you.

I am not an expert in this area, but I think I might know what is going on. There is a difference between an 'embedded' picture and an 'attached' picture.
An embedded picture has a link to the actual picture. If the link is to a site which is not accessible (such as the sender's own computer) then you will get a broken link.
An attached picture is the actual picture file (.jpg, etc.) so you can always view it. If you check 'Display Attachments Inline', then when you scroll down through the email, the attachments will show up.
So, bottom line: If the sender embeds a picture, it needs to link to a publicly accessible URL. Otherwise, it needs to be attached.

  • Exporting OMF with Volume Levels

My movie's done, I'm trying to export the audio as OMF files for my post guy to use on his machines at work.
Problem is that I can't figure out a way to export and leave my volume levels intact. We've done a lot of the mixing already, but according to Mr. Audio the OMF files I burned for him have all volume levels at 0, no deviation.
Can I export OMF with the volume controls using only Final Cut 5 or Soundtrack?
Next question is about Automatic Duck, a Final Cut plug-in that is supposed to solve my problem. I tried installing it and it seems to not want to work without a copy of After Effects on the same machine. Is there a way to load that plug in for just Final Cut and have it work?
    Thanks

    hey Mike
    welcome to the FCP forum.
FCP5 does not to my knowledge export clip based audio gain or pan adjustment data in its OMF export ... you'll need something like Automaic Duck's Pro Export plug-in for that
if you already own Automatic Duck's fabulous plug-in then you should have no problem exporting your timline with (almost) all dissolves, keyframes and effects intact.
if you are having a problem then I can only guess you've bought the wrong plug-in ... you need the FCP Pro Export plug-in.
you'll be glad to know that Wes Plate, from Automatic Duck is a regular contributor to the forum so you can be sure you'll get the advice you need.

  • Acro Reader embedded media blocked on internet?

I have a website, www.vincentasl.info, that consists of PDFs containing embedded media, mostly audio, some video. The way it was designed work - and always did until recently - was for each PDF to open in the browser (or at least show no evidence of being downloaded first), and for each embedded media clip to play when an icon for it is clicked (after the user gives permission via an Options dialog that opens the first time a media icon is clicked).
The worked for years, then suddenly when I checked it a couple of months ago, all the media had stopped working. The cursor would not even change to a pointing finger when hovering over one of the icons. The problem occurred only over the internet. All the icons in the same PDFs still opened the videos fine when I loaded the PDFs locally.
I started this post in the belief that this behavior was still current, but just checked again and found that now each PDF downloads to one's local PC, and the icons do work (after the user gives permission, of course).
This is an improvement, but I still strongly prefer for the PDFs not to download first.
Can someone please tell me (or refer me to the appropriate source to find out):
    - Does this reflect a succession of changes in Adobe's security policy?
    - How likely am I to find the rug pulled out from under me in this way again? (I'm devoting a huge number of man-hours to this effort that I don't want to be wasted!)
I should mention the following important fact: These videos are all 'legacy' MOVs. Using the built-in H.264 way of handling video does not work for my situation for two reasons: (1) In the new H.264 interface, the controls (play, pause, etc.) overwrite my sub-titles; and (2) My readers will need the ability to view the videos frame by frame for careful study of eye movements, etc.., preferably with the arrow keys. Both needs are met by the MOV video interface.

Appropriate due consideration for application and end-user security required the shift away for the methods use with "legacy" media and PDF.
Under the circumstances I'd not expect there to be any changes made by Adobe.
    Be well...

  • How to attach files in email without embedding them

I am using an Imac with lion that is only a few days old.  How can I attach a file to an email without embedding it.  I spoke to apple care and they said after I attach the file to right click on the embedded image and and then click on view as an attachment. I have tried that many times but people still receive the emails with the image embedded.  I switched from a PC and have found that many simple things I used to be able to do on a PC are not so simple on a mac.  I called apple care 5 times about different issues and the geniuses did not know how to resolve the issue.    If this one doesn't get resolved this is going back for a refund.

I haven\'t seen how a mac is easier to use than a pc wrote:

Technically, you can't, at least if you are using SMTP to send the email. All except plain text attachments in emails using that standard are actually embedded in the message for transmission, separated by MIME tags that suggest how the receiving email client application (called "mail user agents" in the specs) should handle it.
The content-disposition tag tells the client app if a part was intended to be displayed inline (embedded) or as a separate attachment. Unfortunately, the majority of client apps do not fully follow those suggestions & make their own determination of what to display inline or as separate attachments.
So the best you can do is make sure the message as composed uses the appropriate content-disposition tag & hope that the receiving client app honors it. If you are using Apple's Mail.app try Don Archibald's suggestion, or putting all the attachments at the very end of your message (which may require not using a sig).
But this won't always work since the receiving app may ignore your efforts.

  • How to include xml file without embedding in flex web application?

    Hi
I have a big XML file around 11 mb. I want to include this xml in my web application without embedding.
So anyone have idea to include.
    Please suggest me any idea.
    Thanks

If you don't want to embed the XML file into a SWF, then the SWF can download the XML file from the server at runtime when it needs it. But there will be a delay while that happens. Maybe it would be better to put the data in the XML file into a database and then access only the parts of it that you need.

  • Rotating text without embedding fonts - how?

No doubt same or similar question was asked and most likely answered but I could not
    find anything that would match...
I want to draw column headers of my ADG vertically. So, I need rotate column text 90 degree
    and adjust position.
Is it true that it can be achieved with embedded font only? If it is true how can it be done for
Unicode code, which includes ranges for Japanese, Chinese, etc characters. The size of
swf is going to be huge. Several sites like this
    http://www.forestandthetrees.com/2009/06/29/rotating-text-without-embedding-fonts/
claims that they have a solution for the problem without embedding fonts.
Note: I am still using Flex 3.3 SDK with no TLF. By the way, do TLF libraries work with
    3.3 SDK.?
    Thanks in advance

Draw your text onto a bitmap image (or take an ImageSnapshot of a Label), then rotate the image.

    Thanks
It's nothing to do with the way you send them. Every mail client chooses how to cope with attachments: in some there is a preference setting but in many cases it automatically displays embedded images. Even where there is a preference setting it's up to the person receiving the email: you can't control it. Why are they so fussed about your sending as an attachment? The image can be saved easily enough, usually by dragging it to the Desktop, or by a button to save attachments. If they really want this you are going to have to zip it, there isn't any other way round it.

  • Can I use FCS without the media?

Can Final Cut Server be used as just an information database without the media the info references? We're using Filemaker right now, but we have FCS. We don't have the budget for a full online system for final cut server (all of the hard drive space required), but we do have some.
I just want to know if FCS requires having the media attached as well. I'd like our entire office to be able to use FCS at the very least to find information on our media and know how to get to even if the drive that has the media isn't online.

    To answer your last question
    Question:
Does this mean that FCS requires you to import the media before it will retain any information or before I can delete the media and it retains the info?
    Answer:
Yes, FCSvr requires you to import an asset before you can apply metadata to it. This can be a 1 second Quicktime movie to conserve on hard diskspace.
    Question:
If I just wanted to manually type a record for our media could I do that?
    Answer:
    No
So for the rest of your question, I have for example create scripts that take records from a Filemaker .csv dump and done the following.
    Scenario:
    Filemaker
Outputs a .csv file with information pertaining to asset, these records have a filename as part of the records, but if your data doesn't have a filename it's ok.
    Final Cut Server (script)
    1. Reads the CSV file and 1 record at a time create assets in Final Cut Server will retaining the metadata from Filemaker.
This way you can use Final Cut Server to search for files. If you use the original files vs (dummy i second files) you can actually view the proxies to see what the assets are.
