Exporting only part of an iTunes library

My disk is full. I need to get my iTunes library off of it. Can I only export part of the library, say just the videos or music files, or do I have to export the whole thing?
Is it possible to export it to a network disk so that it will play over the wifi network?
Thanks,
Ira

For anyone who has this problem in the future - I have a solution!
I used iTunes to burn the playlist to two DVDs... then I imported the songs over on my MacBook.
It took about an hour to do all the burning/importing... but now I have all the songs that I want. =)

  • How do I move only part of my itunes library to an external hard drive?

I have all my music and movies in the itunes library. I am wanting to move the movies to an external hard drive to save space, but keep the music in itunes on my computer.  I want to be able to play them all through my apple TV via home sharing. I have read a number of posts about consolidating the library and how to access files from an external hard drive, and how to move the entire library to another location, but don't know how to move part of the library.

It is possible but it is not standard configuration for iTunes. You will need to learn details of how iTunes operates in order to stay on top of it and not be back here in a month with a messed up library, or in a year or two when you discover it is a real nuisance when it comes to transferring your content to a new drive.

The above method is a possibility but I have not tested it because I still run iTunes 7.5
Another way would be to copy the files to the external drive.  Delete them from iTunes, then drag the copied files back to iTunes (re-adding them) while holding down the option key.  If you do have anything in a playlist it will have to be re-added to the playlist, and you will lose ratings and date added.

  • Only part of my Itunes library shows.

The Ipod touch has all my music and such on it but when I go to sync new music onto it, only part of the library shows. I cant see any of the library in my itunes on the computer other than what i have purchased. New music doesnt sync even though it shows the device is connected. When i go to play with the settings to manually sync, it asks if i want to restore the ipod.
    What do i do?

  • How do i (easily) store only PART of my iTunes library on an external disk?

i have a LOT of music to digitize and not a lot of space left in my powerbook. i want to keep this music on an external drive for later. i do not need to play it (for now) and i do not connect to this external drive often.
should i just drag the song folders or artist folders out of the iTunes folder on my laptop and onto the external drive?
or, is there some sort of cool way (play list?) that will let me keep them catalogued in iTunes even though unavailable?
pb g4 12 (first one)   Mac OS X (10.4.5)   want a new one

so dude, it would be better to put it all. You can't just put part because itunes needs to draw the songs from one place. So what you do is drag your whole itunes folder to your external hard drive then when it is all transported go to preferences and select advanced. Hit general and change the itunes music folder location to the iTunes music folder within the itunes folder. Also select keep library organized. It will automatically update you library, organize, and transport any imports to your external hard drive. Finally, it is safe to delete the folder from your computer. DO NOT DELETE FROM ITUNES! Delete the whole folder library on your computer. Remember to connect the hard drive when ever you open itunes, and if you forget repeat the steps to as stated before to draw the songs from the hard drive. Hope this helps. It helped me free up soooo much space on my computer.

how do I export only part of a pdf?

    Hi eannablack,
The only way to export part of a PDF is to remove the pages that you want to export. And to do that, you need Acrobat. You are welcome to try Acrobat for free for 30 days. For more information, see www.adobe.com/products/acrobat.html.

  • Exporting only part of the Sequence

I do not have any in and out points on my sequence, but when I export, only part of the sequence exports. I have chosen numerous encoding presets, tried placing in and out points at the beginning and end, but it still does not work.

I've tried exporting through DV NTSC and DVCPRO720p60.
Say if I had a 10 minute sequence, then it'd only export 3/4th of it.

  • I keep getting exclamation marks on my playlist on itunes, but this is only for the songs downloaded on my phone. I can't play any songs on my phone, only on the original itunes library. Whats going on??

but this is only for the songs downloaded on my phone. I can't play any songs on my phone, only on the original itunes library. Whats going on??

The iPod backup that iTunes makes does not inlcuded synced media like apps and music. Thes those iTunes are not restored to the iPod unless they are in the iTunes library.
    Try:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Unsync all music and resync
    - Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
    - Restore from backup. See:
    iOS: How to back up
    - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.

  • Export a subset of an iTunes library.

I have a MacBook Pro with a large iTunes library.
I have just bought a MacBook Air for travel purposes.
I want to transfer a subset of my main iTunes library so I can take it with me when I travel.
I used HomeSharing. It transfers the selected songs, but the artwork does not appear in the new library.
Is there a way to export selected songs from my main iTunes library, and then import them to my MacBook Air library, while keeping the artwork?
Is there another way to achieve the same result?

Artwork can exist in two places.  It can be embedded in the file itself if the format permits (e.g., MP3).  It then travels with the file when the file is copied elsewhere.  However, iTunes always keeps its own copy of artwork in the artwork folder, regardless of whether or not it is also embedded in a file.  If you ask iTunes to fetch artwork I believe it does not embed but only keeps it in the artwork folder.  That's why your artwork didn't carry over.
One possible solution is to embed the artwork in the files you are using, if the format permits.  I believe there is a script on the Dougscripts web site that does this.  Note that embedding artwork increase each file size by a small amount.  Not a huge amount but if we're talking a huge number of files and you want it all lean as possible then only embed artwork in one file for each album -- iTunes will apply it to all tracks in the album on the MBA.
Another solution is to fetch artwork from iTunes on the MBA.  This is assuming it is in the iTunes Store and you have an account letting you use that feature.

  • We have Windows 7 Deluxe Home Edition on our Computer with three of us, but only I see our iTunes Library. How can the other two see it on the one computer?

We have Windows 7 Deluxe Home Edition on our family's computer with three users. I can only see our iTunes library when I get on the computer, it is blank on the other two users. I must be doing something wrong beacuse thety cannot access our own library. Can this be fixed?

Try homesharing. I am not sure if this will keep them seprate but this is really close to what you are looking for.http://www.apple.com/itunes/inside-itunes/2010/01/sharing-itunes-libraries-at-ho me.html

  • Using an old iPod as storage for part of my iTunes Library.

I have an old 4th Gen iPod (40gb) that needs a new battery, which I plan to have repaired. I know that i can use the iPod as a hard drive, however, as my iTunes Library has grown to a huge size (pushing 63Gb), it is taking up rather more of my MacBook Pro's Hard disk space, than I would like.
My question is this; Is there a way that I can store part of my iTunes music on the iPod and the rest on the Macbook Pro? Then, when i needed the full library, I would simply plug in my iPod/Hard drive. Is this possible? and also, would it be as straight forward as plugging in the iPod and launching iTunes?
    Hope you can advise me.
    Cheers

" I know that PCs don't recognise Mac stuff but, and correct me if I'm wrong, I remember something about Macs recognising PC stuff??"
An iPod formatted for Mac it won't run natively on a PC because the Windows OS does not support the HFS Plus file system and therefore will not see the drive. There are third party helper programs to overcome that, however Macs can read Windows formatted drives so you should be able to use your old iPod as a straightforward removable drive without any problem.

  • How do I select only certain songs from itunes library to upload to my iphone?

Trying to free up some memory and my whole itunes library is loaded on my phone.  Is there a way to select only certain songs to sync with my phone?

When your iphone is connected to iTunes, go to the phone section, go to options and then select "Sync only checked songs and videos".  Then go to yotur iTunes music library, and check only the songs you want.  If you are viewing the library in the "songs" option the check boxes are next to the songs.  If you are viewing from the "album" view, you have to right-click each song and select check.

  • How to export only part of animation?

In the case of a big animation (tens of thousands of frames), is there a way to render (using Export Movie) only part of the animation, e.g. frames 100-500 and nothing more? That way, loss of time would be reduced.

Playing around with this a bit I found another method in addition to the one you described. I found I can mark part of the sequence with the work area bar and then use Export. The Export screen has an option to send the entire sequence or only the part under the work bar. Then I imported it into Encore and since it was exported with final disc settings Encore didn't have to encode it.
But I think I will send in a feature request. Hopefully a lot of other people will also ask for this.
    Thanks
    Steve
