Exporting out of Final Cut Express

I just wanted to know if someone could tell me the suitable frame rates, options etc for best results out of Final Cut Express to then go into idvd to create a dv pal dvd.... thank you, any help would be great.

You don't need to do anything special to go to iDVD.
Use File>Export>QuickTime Movie (not QuickTime Conversion.
Select the destination where the export is to go.
Include>Audio and Video.
Leave the Make Self Contained box unchecked. This creates a reference file (small and quick).
Hit the Save box.
Drag this exported Reference file to iDVD.

Have deadline. Didn't see it on any forum. Help!! Thanks!!

Seems like a weird thing to not be able to do since it's called final cut PRO...
Bagging on Final Cut Pro for OMF? HA! OMF has been around LONG BEFORE FCP was introduced. It isn't an FCP issue...OMF technology is VERY old. Over 20 years I believe. I used it on Avid...and it always had a 20GB limit.
You cannot deliver 1 track via OMF. You can ask the audio person. I know that Avid now allows you to export an AAF...but FCP doesn't do AAF. For embedded audio I think that OMF is the only way. SO you have to work within the limitations of that format.

  • Exporting problems in Final Cut Express

Hey, I've used Final Cut Express for a few years now but since I've recently switched to widescreen 1080p cameras, I've been struggling with getting the project burned in the high quality you expect.
When I export normally a quicktime movie,  and post to youtube it's fine. No problems there, high quality picture.
At first trying to go to dvd, it would change the video into a standard with bars on the sides. Then after a little research I discovered a help page by apple that explained the settings for exporting for idvd, using quicktime conversion. Now I've been getting by with that, and while it will burn it in the widescreen it was intended, the quality is not what it should be. The quality is not as good as when I post to youtube.
OK, that's one problem that plagues me, and i've been getting by with it but now I have an immediate problem on a project that needs help asap.
I am working on a project that contains photos in high quality, professional photos..... but when I export the project, these photos lose quality big time, and they are pixelated .....and it's doing this no matter how i export, normal quicktime and conversion..... someone please help! I need to have this project to my client asap, thank you!

    Congratulations on your achievement.
The next thing to do would be to post your question in the correct forum:

  • Exporting HDV from Final Cut Express

I'm trying to export a video as an mpeg-2 from Final Cut Express and burn it onto a CD-ROM for use on a PC with Adobe Premier. Could anyone help on the best way to do so?

There is no MPEG-2 export from FCE unless you have a third party encoder. You might try googling it. There are some expensive ones. Why does it have to be MPEG-2 BTW? Wouldn't QuickTime be better? It's fully support by Premiere on both platforms.

  • Exporting video from Final Cut Express to be put on the internet

Is there a way to export a flash file from Final Cut Express? I have a short video I am trying to put on my web site and I am finding that every format I try people who are using PC's are having trouble opening it. It all links back to Quicktime. Is there a way to not use Quicktime?

It doesn't come with FCE. You need a Flash encoder. There are different ones of varying quality. Flash of course comes with one. Episode has Flash as an add-on. Do a google search for Flash encoders. Many encoders, after they're installed, will work directly from within FCE using the QuickTime Conversion function. There'll be a format option for Flash.

  • Audio track during export corrupted in Final Cut Express 4

I'm using final cut express in the latest version for the cut of a movie from different compresses sources from digital camperas (.mov, .avi, etc.). Everything is now set, the movie would be ready for export and looks good in preview.
After exporting the movie (no matter, if I compress the file or not) in the middle of a 5 minute take the audio track gets a problem (at 15mins. in the movie) and repeats the same sequence of audio (2 secs) until the end of the take (sorry don't know the correct english expression for that). After that other takes code fine again. Video is no affected and code without problem.
This error is repeatable on my machine, no matter which version of Final Cut Express I use (before and after the latest updates) and operating system (10.5 and 10.6). Also a reconnection of all videos and rendering of the complete movie did not help.
I'm really lost here, any ideas? I don't even know a workaround.

Thanks! Downloaded Streamclip and tried my first conversion. However, now I even made FCE crash;-) The H.264 codec seems not to be the right one. What would be the best one? Apple Intermediate Codec / Apple Motion Jpeg / Apple FCP uncompressed 10bit / Apple FCP Uncompressed 8 Bit / ..... I'm somehow lost in the possibilities and goo gle didn't help either. So I have to count on you again. Any suggestions?

  • Exporting ITunes to Final Cut Express

I recently purchased a song in ITunes 6 to use in a home movie I am creating in Final Cut Express 2.0.3 When I imported the file, Final cut would not read it. The file was blank. I open it up in IMovie and it plays fine. So I saved it as a clip and once again tried to import the clip into Final cut and it is still blank. I have done this before in ITunes 5 and it worked fine. Does this have to do with the protected file of the song?
    Any help?

    Thanks Charlie,
Yes the problem was with the protected file.
After posting this I tried importing the tune into I Movie and then selecting File/Share. I Movie forces you to also select a video clip for some reason when working with protected files. Next I selected "Quicktime/Expert settings/Share" - a menu appears then select "Sound to AIFF" and "41.1 kHz 16 bit stereo".
This seemed to do the trick and I appreciate your help but I was trying into to avoid burning a cd for one song.
I purchased this song to use only in a home movie so it seems unfortunate that these files are so protected. People buy music from I tunes rather than download it for free because they are honest so I don't understand why the music industry wants to allienate its customers.
Anyway, I really appreciate your help.
    Sincerely,
    Rob

  • Sizing exported films in Final Cut Express 4.0

    Hello.
How can I determine the size of the film I am producing, in bytes?
A seemingly simple thing, driving me mad.  I need my film to be Dvd sized so less than 4.5gig you see?
I am using Final Cut Express 4.0
    Thanks.

Aha...I always used Quicktime conversion, thinking I was smart.
    I see!  Will try now.
    Thank you very much.

  • Exporting out of Final Cut

Hi.  I have an issue where, when I'm exporting a video in the Quicktime conversion tool, the video is lighter and the colors are washed out compared to what I see in Final Cut when I am editing.  I'm exporting in high quality to 1280x720 - any thoughts as to why this is happening and how I can avoid this?

Never mind - after doing a bit more searching on the forum - I have have my answer...

  • Exporting .wmv from final cut express

I'm trying to find an acceptable method to export a movie file to share with Windows users and most codecs are extremely lossy for what I'm doing except the .wmv. But I can NOT get any sound to export with a wmv file. I have other wmv files like those I get in e-mails and they play fine... ALL other codecs I've tried bring sound with them ok. looking for assistance/explanation

You're right. My error was not reading the Flip4 manual. And tho you didn't really put together what I was saying at first ie: I WAS exporting in .wmv from FCE, you did help me understand that the conversions choices that I was using in FCE were part of a plug-in, which in turn led to the answer. Here's the deal; ALL of the .wmv conversion choices show up active with the free versions of Flip4 and you can get video converted to .wmv with quicktime supported applications (just enough to tease and confuse), BUT, apparently it doesn't finish converting the entire video clip, nor does it bring any sound with it until you purchase at least the "Studio" upgrade. • Exporting movie in final cut express to quick time movie

Does anyone know what ERROR : Not enough disk space means when trying to
export my movie to quick time movie?

It means exactly what it says.
Look in Finder, at the bottom of the window to see how much free space the drive you are trying to save to, has.
What Sequence setting are you using and how long is your project?

  • Exporting LiveType to Final Cut Express 4

I am copying an initial post from earlier today in the FCE4 forum. I hope it is okay to post this in two places, and I am sure there is quite an overlap in helpful users between forums, but, I am posting this here, too, to hopefully get a few more eyeballs on the problem. I was also going to initially post this here, but the LiveType forum was down earlier today:
I made a movie in LiveType. When I imported it into FCE, and also moved it into my timeline, it was "not wide enough." That is, there were black bars on each side of the clip in the Canvas of FCE. I looked around on this forum and decided I needed to go into LiveType and make the project properties match the properties of my FCE project.
    Here is what I did:
changed the frame size from 720x486 to 1440x1080 to match
changed the field dom. to Upper(odd) also to match
I left the pixel aspect in LiveType at 1.33 (it is my understanding, though I could certainly be in error, that this is also a match to the 1440x1080 of my project in FCE)
Those settings are what I changed and result is worse than before. Instead of two black bars on each side in the Canvas, the LiveType movie is now positioned in the upper left hand corner of the Canvas, quite small, actually.
There has been a lot of help in the FCE forum, but the problem has not been solved.... yet. Here is the link to that thread:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2764606&tstart=0
I suppose this looks pretty impatient on my part, posting in two forums, but I have a deadline to meet for this video.
    Thank you very much.

You need to rebuild the effect from scratch.
Changing the Project Properties in LiveType does not change the size of the elements in the composition.
This kind of explains what I mean: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=9449441&#9449441

  • Video out of sync in Final Cut Express... but in sync everywhere else!

'm working on making one video that is composed of two camera angles of the same thing. So, I have two video tracks in Final Cut Express, one for the side view, and one for the main view. Both videos are Quicktime Movies (.mov extension).
    Here are the file details:
    Main Cam: duration - 1hr 26min 46sec // file size - 5.74gb
    Side Cam: duration - 1hr 29min 18sec // file size - 5.63gb
[the side cam video is a little longer because I started filming with that camera a little bit before the main cam and stopped the filming a little earlier]
Now, here's the problem. Both videos are in my Final Cut Express project. The Main Cam video runs fine. But the Side Cam video's video is out of sync with the audio by a lot (somewhere between 2 and 6 full seconds). Normally I would think that something had happened during the filming, but here's the odd thing: the Side Cam video plays perfectly in sync out of Final Cut Express.
If I open it in Quicktime, or even in iMovie, the audio and video are perfectly in sync for the entirely of the video. But when I import it into FCE and watch it there, whether it's in the timeline, in the viewer, rendered, or unrendered (I've tried them all), it's horribly out of sync.
So, the video plays fine and in sync everwhere except for in the Final Cut Express program. The Main Cam video, which has a very similar duration and file size and which is the same file type, plays perfectly even in FCE. The only problem is the Side Cam, and I can't figure out why this is, or how to fix it.
Another thing: these videos were not captured from a camera into Final Cut. I already have the video files on the computer, and as I've said, the audio is fine there. To get them into FCE, I use file -> import.
Also, if anyone has suggestions on how to fix this, could you provide directions of some sort? I'm fairly new to Final Cut.
Any advice would be greatly, greatly appreciated.
Thank you so much in advance!

    Hi(Bonjour)!
Does both camcorders was set to 16-48 khz audio?
One way to synch audio that drifting from video (or from anoter audio lenght) is to set precisely 2 markers (one near the beginning, another near the end) in the correct lenght video track. Try to find spots where you can hear and see a common reference. The result of the workaround will put a corrected audios between those points only.
Now note the duration between those 2 markers in video track.
*Unlink the video/audio clip with the wrong duration.*
Select the drifting audio and put the 2 markers at the intended reference points.
The duration should be less or more than the video.
Use the blade tool to cut the wrong lenght audio at markers.
The tips is to set a new duration for this portion with the set speed command.
With this +new duration+, align the in point of audio with the first video marker. The out point of audio should be aligned with the second video marker.
Now the audio should match the video lenght and should be in synch.

  • Best export method of footage from Final Cut Express to DVD?

I'm exporting footage from Final Cut Express using Quicktime Player and then burning the footage to DVD using iDVD.
The end result on DVD has very jagged interlacing (or noise) on objects in motion which aren't present when viewing the footage on FC. I don't think the problem is with iDVD (I assume I'm burning a pristine copy of an already reduced-quality clip).
Are there any changes I can make to the system preferences either on FC or Quicktime Player to reduce or prevent loss of digital information, or can anyone suggest better methods of export from Final Cut Express to DVD?

    Hello
I'm not sure if this is relevant:
    I've been using the Quicktime Conversion settings;
    http://www.locationstudio.net/Settings.jpg
    29.97 Frame Rate
    Highest Quality
    NTSC/PRO
I was under the impression that this was usually best - haven't had any problems with iDVD

  • Final Cut Express 4.0 - BEST export for...

    Good evening everyone!
I've finished up the first phase of a project I've been working on.
I'll be now exporting my final cut video ( using Final Cut Express 4.0 ) to a DVD for transport to the client. They will be taking the video and loading it onto some TV displays and they'll be converting it for some web usage.
I'm wondering the BEST quality to export my video from Final Cut Express 4.0 and the BEST file format to use in doing this.
Any one have any comments/suggestions around this?
thank you for your time in advance!
    cheers,
    Dean

Just testing now... and verified that the .mov files ( quick time files from Final Cut Express 4.0) plays very bad on my Windows machine.
This is the data dvd I burned. I'm accessing the files on the DVD in windows using quicktime player.
the playback is very choppy and at long periods of there there is not video at all. I don't get green lines at the bottom, this is only an iDVD burned DVD for playback in DVD players.
ON my Mac Book Pro ( where I'm doing all of this work ), it plays fine from the storage DVD using quicktime!!!
Hmm... could some issues with my dvd storage software I'm using to burn the data. It's, it's called Toast.
I'm currently moving the exported files from Final Cut Express 4.0 directly to m windows machine to burn. I'll test a DVD burn on the windows machine using Recordnow and get back to you guys.
    thanks.
    cheers,Dean
