Exporting Palm Desktop datebook to .dba archive

I have datebook data from 2003-present on my Palm Desktop v6.2.  I would like to archive everything before 1/1/14 by exporting the data into a *.dba archive, and then delete that data from Palm Desktop.  The export dialogue says I can choose to archive items I have selected, but does not tell how to select them.  I wish to select a date range -- specifically, 1/1/03-12/31/13.  Anybody know how to do that?

  • Palm Desktop datebook data file

I've been a Palm user for 13 years.
A year ago, my trusty Z-22's battery died. So I bought a M500 online from one of Amazon's 3rd party vendors. It worked adequately, but with a number of glitches that I learned to live with. By July or so of this year, I noticed appointments randomly disappearing from my desktop Palm app. No rhyme or reason, past, future, etc. I kept many data backups and just kept putting those files back into the desktop.
Then Oct 1st, everything on the calendar disappeared. 13+ years of data, gone. Fearing it was the funky M500 (fortunately I did not sync after the data loss, so had the entire calendar on the handheld), I bought a refurbished Z-22 from an Amazon 3P. Uninstalled desktop software (saved all data files), downloaded the latest Palm desktop software I could find (v. 6.2.2), loaded all data files, back in business. Everything worked like a charm. For one month (I sync several times a day).
Nov 1st, entire calendar gone. So I looked a little closer. MS Office Access apparently installed a .dat file in the datebook folder with 108kb worth oaf data (the legitimate datebook.dat file is 1,308kb). Everytime I open Palm Desktop, that's the file that's altered. Erase it, it reappears everytime I re-open Palm DT,
I don't use MS Office Access, so I removed it. Open Palm DT, now a new 1kb UiPrefs.dat is created, even if I open DT by double clicking the real datebook.dat file. HELP! I must note that throughout this whole ordeal, the address book, memo, todo list were totally unaffected.
Vista Home Premium 32 bit. MS Office 2007.
    Thank you!

I haven't been able to hot sync with my handheld since I upgraded to Vista, so there is no backup on the handheld of any data.  Grrrrrrr!   I don't believe it.  I thought I'd read posts about other people backing up their data.
Is there any "cheaters method" to create a backup copy by changing where the data file is saved, then changing it back, or something similar, so there are always two copies?  I don't want this happening again, and I won't be able to upgrade my handheld for several months still.

  • Trying to Export Palm Desktop to Verizon Voyager

I just updated my Palm Desktop (have the Z22) to PalmDesktop by Access.  I would like to transfer my calendar to my Verizon Voyager.  I heard that you can do it through BitPim.  BitPim wil recognize vCalendar or .vcs files or csv Calendar.
I do not have Outlook Express.  Is there a way to configure my datebook or calendar into one of those formats that BitPim will recognize?
Thanks for any help you can offer.
    My best,

  • Exporting Palm desktop records to an itouch on a Windows platform

Use both Mac and Windows--had a PDA crash and bought an itouch. Any suggestions on how to sync the itouch to grab data from Palm desktop? Or export? (don't have Palm destop installed on the Mac)
    Post relates to: None

Since you do not identify which PDA, you can sync to Outlook on the PC and then get the Outlook data onto the iTouch. If a newer PDA, the install CD has a Sync options menu item where you can switch between Palm Desktop and Outlook. If you no longer have the original install CD or have an older device Pocket Copy from Chapura.com will move the Palm Desktop records to Outlook.
There are possibly other options on Mac, depending on whether you sync to something other than Palm Desktop for Mac. Since I have not used a Mac is a couple of decades, I'm not qualified to outline these options.

  • Export Palm Desktop 4.1.4 Address Book to Gmail

No need for two posts on the same topic.

Do the export again in Palm Desktop, and pay attention to where they are going.  It should show the directory where they are going to be saved.  If you still can't find them, do a "Find files" on your PC and search for .aba
What version of Palm Desktop are you using?

  • Palm Desktop Datebook Info Vanished -- Memo, Contacts, etc. Okay

Palm Desktop version 6.2.2.  Windows XP 64-bit.
Something happned overnight with my laptop -- maybe low battery, because in the morning it had logged me out and shut down my open windows from the previous night.  When I opened Palm Desktop, my date book data was gone.  The contacts, memos, etc. are there.
My handheld doesn't sync with this version of Palm Desktop, so I can't use it to restore my data.  Where can I find the datebook file, what's it called, and how can I open it, or where is the backup of the data file, what's it called and how can I open it?
    Thanks for your advice.

  • Palm Desktop 6.2 Crashes

I have recently upgraded to Desktop 6.2 from 4.1 and successfully used it to synch my unlocked Treo 680.
Today, while working in the Datebook calendar function Monthly View on my desktop, I tried to "Go To..." November, 2001 and the whole Desktop crashed.
I restarted Desktop several times and moved easily around the calendar in Monthly View using "Go To..." for any date other than November, 2001.  But November, 2001 caused a crash every time.
I switched views to Daily and Weekly and did not have any problems with the "Go To..." function to any date, including those in November, 2001.
But as soon as I used Monthly View to Go To... November, 2001 the Desktop crashes.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.  Thanks.

    hi,
    that a currupted datebook data
when was the last time you did sync your phone to the pc?
look for the username on the palm desktop 6.2 (top right)
    open mydocuments\palmosdesktop\username
cut the datebook folder and paste it on you r desktop (this will cut all data on the palm desktop)
you could no longer see any data on the palm desktop datebook but to try to test it if it will still crash

  • Create DBA files to export Centro Database to Another Mch with Palm Desktop Installed

    Hi:
How to I create a dba file of all the info on my Centro for export to another machine with the same Centro Access/Palm database.
    Thanks
    DS
    Post relates to: Centro (Verizon)

"All the info"?  Or just the PIM data?
If you want to Export the database information in Contacts or the Calendar, use Palm Desktop's "Export" function.  Open Contacts, choose File/Export to save the info to a file.
This can then be "Imported" by the other Centro's Palm Desktop, whether on another computer, or another Hotsync User Name on the same computer.

  • Palm Desktop Application (for Mac) crashes when I try to export Datebook module in vCal format

I'm trying to get my Palm OS Datebook data into iCal. When I attempt the export from Palm Desktop in vCal format, the process appears to start; as it nears the end, the entire Desktop application crashes. The file to which I'm allegedly saving the exported info contains no data.
The exact same thing has happened using both Mac OSX 10.4 and 10.5 on two different Macs. I already uninstalled and re-installed the latest version of Desktop software, so that's not the problem.
Any ideas about how to get my Palm Datebook info into iCal, even if it requires a third party application?
    Thanks in advance,

I'm sorry, but I don't understand what this response means: you can just use your Treo as the liason between the 2 when you switch sync softwares.
I didn't know it was possible to sync the Treo to iCal and/or Address Book. Can you tell me how? I'd be happy to switch sync software if I knew what to switch to.
I'm sorry to have to ask you to spell it out a bit more for me, but appreciate in advance your willingness to do so.

  • Palm TX - Desktop DateBook Empty & Now it seems it will not sync with device.

    Hello Palm Forum Members,
I have Windows 7 and I sync my Palm TX to DeskTop 6.2.2 via bluetooth.  Two weeks ago I loaded my DeskTop DateBook and it was blank.  I have made several attempts to sync my device to the desktop in hopes to recover my datebook\calendar and it seems that the synchronization stalls during the datebook\calendar updating.  I have uninstalled and reinstalled the desktop software, I have also imported the datebook file....however it was also blank.
Any assistance given will be greatly appreciated, thank you in advance :-)

There may be database corruption causing the issue. Click on the following link for the program called DbFixiT. This program has a trial version that you can download and install on your Palm OS device. The trial version will scan for database corruption and then report the corruption. You can then find the records causing the problem and fix them yourself or you can purchase the program and have it automatically fix the records.
    http://www.pimlicosoftware.com/dbfixit.htm
To install the program, set all conduits to "do nothing" except quick install or install if using Palm desktop 6.2.
After you install the program on the handheld, run the scan and also scan for Blobs in the calendar.
After you clean-up the database on the handheld, set the conduits in hotsync to handheld overwrites desktop and perform a hotsync.
The best way to preserve your data is to export the data in each category in Palm Desktop to a separate folder on your PC.
Create a new folder on your PC somewhere that is convenient. Name it something like Palm Desktop Data. Click on the link below and follow the instructions on that page for the export procedure.
    http://kb.hpwebos.com/wps/portal/kb2/common/article/28734_en.html
Make sure you select all for the range in the export window.
With the data saved in the folder you created, make a copy of that folder and save to a flash drive, cd-rw or external hard drive.
Anytime you make a change in Palm Desktop, export the data that was changed to that folder and save again to the external media.
With this process you can always import the data back into Palm Desktop anytime you have a problem with the data in Palm Desktop or if your computer/hard drive/device crashes.
For reference purposes, click on the following link for the support page for your device on the kb.hpwebos.com webpage.

  • Importing a vCal file that was exported from Palm Desktop

Hopefully someone can help me out here. My wife uses Palm Desktop v4.2.1 to manage her Treo (we share a Mac mini). I figured out how to export the Datebook from Palm Desktop as a vCal file, and then import it into iCal. The problem is, there appears to be an error or corruption happening in the process. Some events are duplicated, while others are recurring every single day even though they weren't originally set that way. On her Treo and in Palm Desktop, the events are correct and appear as they should. So either the Palm Desktop is corrupting the data on the way out, or iCal is misreading it on the way in.
Has anyone experienced this (or similar) situation and if so, were you able to resolve it? I use iCal to manage my calendar on my iPod Touch (syncing via iTunes), and I'd like to have my wife's calendar on there as well, but not have to import or recreate events one at a time. I should also mention that her Treo 650 is not supported by iSync, so that option is out. Thanks for any suggestions you may have.

Please allow me to pile on this thread as I, too, am looking for answers to this problem. I am using Palm Desktop 4.2.2 to export my calendar from my Tungsten T3 to something iCal and my new iPhone 3G can understand, but the results so far have been a pig's breakfast of recurrence errors and birthdays that last two days.

  • Intellisync data files, i.e., .dba transfer to Centro's Palm desktop...

Hi, I recently purchased a Centro through AT&T. I installed the desktop sync program but it didn't find my old Intellisync data files: .dba, etc. These were from Intellisync for my old Palm IIIc. I know where the data files are but I need to know how to export (?) transfer (?) them to the new program. Anyone have any ideas?
    btw, I have Windows XP.
    Thank you!
    Post relates to: Centro (AT&T)

The current Palm Desktops use either .dat or .mdb files to store the data. If you open the palm desktop and go to file, then import, you should be able to import any Palm compatible files into the new desktop.

  • How to export Date book and Address book from Palm Desktop to Apple iCal and Address Book?

I have my calendar information and addresses stored in Palm Desktop date book and address book, respectively. I am running Palm Desktop 4.2.1. Everytime I try to export the date book or address book to my desktop using the vCal format, the Palm desktop crashes. My goal is to export all my data from Palm Desktop to iCal and Address Book on the Apple OS (10.6.1). Does anyone have any advice as to how I can do this or do I just have to start from scratch and manually enter the data from Palm Desktop to Apple iCal and Address Book? I looked at the Missing Sync software, but I don't think this will do the trick. The Genius Bar at the Apple Store didn't offer any solutions either. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Hello tay8000m and welcome to the Palm forums.
Have you tried running the "Repair Disk Permissions" command in Apple's Disk Utility application yet?  Launch Disk Utility, select "Macintosh HD" from the left side of the window, and then click the "Repair Disk Permissions" button.
After the utility has run, try launching Palm Desktop again and then exporting your data as vCard or iCal files.  If the exports aren't working for you, you can always export the data as comma separated values (.csv) file and then import that into the Apple apps you want to use.
